Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

I know we haven't exactly been setting the heather a light but I just read this.

Since defeat at Ibrox on Dec 29th.

19 matches.
16 wins. 3 draws. 0 defeats.
39 goals scored.
3 goals conceded.
16 clean sheets.
0 minutes we've been behind in matches.

That's not bad especially when we are not playing well.

Good stats Kev83.

I do think when our grandweans are looking at their Wee Red Books this will be looked at as some season. It's just been a bit mince to watch at times because of what we've been used to.

I have been guilty of thinking about 9 and 10 the last few weeks. We should be living in the moment a bit more. Our greatest ever side - the 'Lisbon Lions' never got a Treble Treble.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 21:34:02
I know Kev, pretty astonishing facts when some say our form this season has been abysmal, and this has been achieved with the worst injury plagued season I can remember. Never been behind in 19 matches? Never realised that, that alone is some feat. Considering we finished last season on 82 pts and we are currently on 81 pts with 3 games to go is another unbelievable stat when we've supposedly been very poor this season.

Posted yesterday that we have been unbeaten in 2019.
The goals have been pretty scarce since the shake-up, but the clean sheets have increased, since before the winter break.
It's obvious we are not at our best, but considering the season we have endured, it's still amazing to be in this position.
Guys like me who saw Celtic pre- Stein and have witnessed supreme highs and dreadful lows, can really appreciate this terrific run.
I know we love watching Celtic in full flow, scoring for fun and giving opponents a doing, but it's not always possible for all the players to be on-song at the same time, when we have had so many injuries and distractions; but even when we are struggling, we are still better than the rest and we all know we can do much better.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 23:16:57
Our performances are not free flowing and easy on the eyes, but we are living in a wonderful time to be a Celtic supporter . I thought many of our normally better players either didn't try or couldn't rise to their normal standards particularly in the first half on Saturday . We were a lot better in the second half and if we can build and improve on our second half performance in our remaining games we will be fine.

This season has been turmoil in so many ways so it's a credit to the players for seeing it over the line. We will regroup over the summer and there will be plenty ins and outs and i have no doubt by the start of next season we will be stronger. It's clear the players are in need of a rest so i hope once the Title is sealed we will give some youngsters a run out.

OMC I don't think it has anything to do with not trying. I personally think this team is dead on its feet.
I think they are knackered both physically and mentally.
This season has battered them and most haven't stopped playing game after game after game for 3 or 4 seasons now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 11:34:44
Why I wonder whether some are trying is sometimes there is sometimes a lack of movement off the ball. I was disgusted with Eddie swinging his leg at a cross when I thought with more determination he could have got a good header in.

Time bomb alan mcgregor is clearly struggling to accept we will win 8 titles in a row. On a weekly basis now, he is close to tears with rage about the slightest wee thing
Today his moaning worked, when himself and slippy had a go at the referee walking up the tunnel at half time. A word in his ear and 2 minutes into the second half they got a penalty for a dive and then another penalty for another dive. No wonder the fans have been screaming for katic to get more game time.
To be fair to sevco they had to bring in plan B because they have struggled to score against the dons. In 6 out of the 7 games slippy has faced aberdeen this season, they have scored only 4 goals and none from open play, they have scored from 3 penalties and a corner.
I am loving the idea they are bringing in hastie, soutar, stewart and jones. I don't think the Celtic players will lose much sleep with those signings.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Apr 2019 17:42:25
I thought 1st one was a penalty but second one was a joke. Same thing you see in every box at every corner in every game.

There was a foul to the defender prior to the foot stamp, neither were penalties never mind the ref card!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 18:41:12
The amount of 'penalties' that have been awarded to Sevco must be some sort of record this season?
However, It's certainly no surprise and it will continue - if not increase - in the next two seasons.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 18:58:08
Also the player exaggerated the foul to win the call, which isn’t moral sportsmanship but commentators encourages it saying “why wouldn’t you deliberately fall” like really 😳.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 23:03:30
first one was a foul on the Aberdeen player causing him to make contact with katic who made a meal of it.

17 penalties says it all, not even the great free flowing attacking Celtic teams under Stein got that many, its only going to get worse the nearer we get to 10 in a row.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 17:36:07
The second was never a penalty. Defoe was an honest hard grafting professional before he joined that lot. He has turned into a diving cheating wee thug. Straight out the Morelos handbook on how to get away with assault right in front of your eyes.

Definitely no better than Ajer and Simunovic and although we will need cover if/ when Compper, Boyata and Benkovic go - we shouldn't go anywhere near Aberdeen or any other SPL club for that matter, if Hendry is anything to go by as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 16:31:09
Looks like we'll need to get the point we need another time. If we hadn't scored yesterday it would be getting squeaky bottom time with Aberdeen, Rangers Mark II and Hearts to play. Interestingly that's them scored 5 goals more than Celtic which tells its own story. They could without a doubt have won the league this year and certainly are closer than they've. been since their resurrection. We need investment in the summer because they will and the goals for column tells us where the priority is.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

28 Apr 2019 16:54:45
Half their goals have been dodgy pens, Tavernier is about 3rd highest scorer in the league, that tells it's own story đŸ€”.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:04:06
The lack of a 'proper' striker or even strike partnership has been a serious handicap and although Eddy and Sinky mucked in with their share, imagine the difference if we had, had any decent number nine on the end of the countless wasted corners and crosses/ pull backs.
I do think Sevco have been at their most consistent since 2012, but we are still nine points ahead (while not at our best) and have beat them twice; however the new manager - whoever it is - will want to improve the squad and hopefully address the areas that need attention.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:17:10
JFP. This season has been a disaster for sevco. Our form has been poor this year yet we have won the league at a canter and Sevco have managed one semi final appearance in the cups Even Caixhina got to both semi finals.
I think our club need to be more decisive in their decision making, I can't see why they couldn't have settled the managers position by now, Neil Lennon has been manager here before so they know what he can do, if they weren't happy with him before then why is he good enough now.
It's the same old discussion we seem to have every year regarding investment, we make plenty of money but the club only seem to want to bring in loan players and projects, it would be nice for a change if we actually brought players in who actually improve us and don't just rely on the rest of the league being mediocre.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:20:39
JFP
That’s 17 penalties already this season that they have had, no wonder they have most goals, anyone have stats for penalties awarded to teams this season?

28 Apr 2019 17:21:54
Truly magical day yesterday no question about that. But that aside we were not that much better than them yesterday. And I don't get Lenny saying he doesn't want to change anything for now if he can't see what we see since he has came in and hasn't even tweaked it for the better then it's his own fault.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:34:38
I think Lenny must only be a stop gap, and he has been told this, I would hope I am wrong, but when I think about it, if he was going to be the permanent manager it would have been announced when he took over, maybe the players know this, or suspect it,

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:41:51

The bottom line is the bottom line though friends. They’ve beaten us this season in the league for the first time and with three games to go the league still hasn’t been won. My point is they’re not just closer they’re closer than they ever should have been.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 18:30:38
Jfp1888 would you take in to account that we've had a season of serious turmoil for the first few weeks though?

I look at that and see that they still can't win anything when we've took some serious hits.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think the entire season has been turmoil when you weigh everything up. A disastrous transfer window, the Dembele and Boyata situations which probably cost us the CL, a horrendous injury list and injuries to key players like Benkovic, Brown and Rogic, KT & Christie at points etc etc the list goes on. Considering what then happened with Rodgers I think it'll be a fantastic achievement for the players to get another Treble over the line and we'll appreciate it more when we look at the bigger picture during the summer.
And fair play to Lennon for coming in and steadying the ship which again can't have been easy for a number of reasons, imagine he had came in and everything fell apart?}

28 Apr 2019 19:35:39
You're spot on Ed, to get a treble over the line this season would be remarkable . I cannot remember a season like it for injuries, I think every first team player has had a fairly long period out through injury apart from (unbelievably) Jamesie. Many have had 2 spells out, on top of that we've had Dembele going, Griff with his problems, Boyata spitting the dummy and Rodgers bailing out at a crucial part of the season. This shows the gulf between us and the rest when despite all this we are on the verge of another treble.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 19:38:10
RyansPappa, I looked at penalties in the league, for and against for both Celtic and sevco. I think Celtic have received 7 and conceded 4 penalties.
I think sevco have received double our tally with 14 and have conceded half our amount of only 2 in 35 league games.

Lennon has done a fantastic job since coming in. Can’t believe some of the negative comments surrounding him. I suppose we have been spoiled with success.

Lennon has negotiated two very tricky cup ties to get to final. Won the game against Rangers and kept us on easy street in the league.

This was all achieved despite huge shock to club and players when BR bolted. Those players had Rodgers style ingrained over two very successful years. Lennon has not tried anything radical and said as much from the get go. He dropped all his commitments to rescue the club. He’s an absolute hero and Celtic legend in my eyes.

Anyone think a slight change to the points system could make teams less negative.
3 pts for a win
1 pt for a score draw
0 pts for a 0-0
Would make everyone have to be more positive in their approach and make some games almost worth watching.

Ed is there any chance of us seeing Roberts back at Celtic in the summer? I know we have far too many wingers so probably unlikely but after a miserable stint in Spain we might have a chance unless the Rat takes him at Leicester.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Love him or hate him, want him or not the stick Lennon is getting is way over the top.
I could understand if we were playing Barcelona football before he came but for the last 2 seasons, trophies apart, the football has been terrible.
The players have been coached to a robotic system and any new manager come in with 11 games to go would have been bonkers to try and tinker with it. espically in a leading position.
Let's get behind Lennon and the players and get the trophies in the cabinet and let the club deal with what lies ahead.

Yesterday was the first time in quite a while that I've seen large numbers of fans berating the manager because he was watching the same game as us and wasn't doing anything to change it. For periods he was just sat in the dugout and not even out in the technical area giving instructions or encouragement. It may have been due to the emotion of the day but I saw guys who are usually very calm losing the rag.

Tim, there isn't the remotest possibility of the Sevvies showing even the tiniest acknowledgment or respect for us winning the title and there's even less chance of it happening in their own shytehole.

It was all about getting the victory yesterday no matter what and it leaves us a point away from 8 in a row! The performances have been poor recently but let's all remember they were also poor under Rodgers! we have not been great this season yet we are still on for a treble treble. I do honestly feel that Lennon is not the right manager to take us forward but to be honest there is not a lot out there at the moment within budget so we have to get this next appointment correct as we have some re-building to do for next season. Just want to mention big Jozo, I personally feel he is our best centre half and hopefully now he can stay injury free and be the player that we all know is in there! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. HH.

I agree with pretty much all of that Michael. Getting any win was the main aim at this stage though like you I think we need a fresh approach in the summer. Yes there needs to be a few new player recruits (that would have still have been the case under BR) . More importantly we need to get a new manager and probably for me look at a position which bridges the gap between footballing decisions and finance. As for a limited budget though, we did get 9m for Rodgers, Kolo and Davies. That could go a long way towards getting a big name in. The main issue is who would want to come. I like Jozo when he's fit, the problem is there, WHEN HE'S FIT. So for me, a centre back to partner young Ajer and Jozo as back up would be good. Assuming the new manager plays with 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 11:34:06
I Wasn't taking it personally, I was merely suggesting we don't have the financial power of other clubs to compete salary wise for managers. If I were going for a manager at the moment I really like the look of the young English guy at Bournemouth Eddie Howe. How he has managed to do what he has at that club I'll never know. They play amazing football and behind the scenes he has transformed the young set up etc, Again its just a suggestion. HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 17:25:13
Well to be honest debate is what this site is for.
If you don't want someone picking holes in your opinion then don't put it up.

Now the reason I asked about the budget for a manager is that everyone seems to think we don't have one.

Where do you's get this idea.
Our last manager was on 2.4 million a year.
Our highest ever
Which isn't far off as lot of the managers in EPL.
Benitez rumoured to be around 4 million.
We recouped practically every penny we paid him
We have around 40 million in the bank supposedly.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 18:18:41
I also think Eddie Howe would be a great pick.
As far as salary for the manager is concerned we got ÂŁ3 million for winning the league on each occasion during BR's reign, so winning the league paid his salary.
How do we know Eddie Howe etc won't come, they need to be asked.
As I said last week, he has brought Bournemouth through all the leagues, and kept them in the EPL for 4 seasons. Best they can achieve is top10 finish, so maybe Mr Howe would love a chance at Champions League football?
As Michael Dundee 7 says they play good football, so why not ask him if he's interested.
