I'm not sure about red bulls budget, is it bigger than ours? but they for me should be the benchmark we are looking at.
They would cause most teams trouble. They maybe suspect at the back but they pass the ball and press the ball at an excellent level.
That for Me is the level we should be trying to reach . Comfortable on the ball and always looking dangerous . Always have a fighting chance if you can keep possession whilst looking dangerous with it .

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Did you see what the ludrogets budget was against liverpool last night?, budgets got nothing to do with it, players have to be motivated, trained properly, emphasis should be on ball control and quick accurrate passing, set pieces have to be worked on, both to attack and defend against, players have to be played in their best positions, why did RD not play two up front, redbull are dodgy at the back, attack their weakness'ess, make them be too busy defending, to be bothered about attacking, why did'nt you ask what diet they were on?.

You missed the point entirely . I meant if we are on a budget similar to theirs then that should be our benchmark . They had some very good attacking players which shows players are out there and available within our budget . You had a bad day I take it?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I read somewhere that Red Bull brought on a substitute last night that cost £9m .

Let's look at the positives first a very good second half and credit to the players for dominating it against a very good side.even though we lost by a two goal margin some of our combination play down the left and the effort the players gave in that second half gave me encouragement for the future given that we've got guidetti and deneyer to come back into the side and also Forrest to reach match fitness.Lee Griffith's has had his critics this season but I thought he was excellent tonight and deserves a starting slot Sunday.santa can you bring ronny a big commanding no nonsense central defender to play either with van dijck or deneyer as they'r too similar in style and ambrose is unable to perform well there, a left back to give izzi a break as you can't run the full length of the pitch effectively at European level for 90 minutes and someone who can give a slide rule pass to complement broonie and johansen haha

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Gerrym8 I don't think you are too far wrong . After the first 20 mins we got ourselves into the game and gave as good as we got . I have to marvel every game at the energy levels of Izzy
He seems to be perpetual motion up and down the wing . He may put in some bad crosses, but he also puts in some marvellous crosses in nearly every game . Their start destroyed us
it seems they really went for it and we were not ready for their total all out attacks

Everyone will have different opinions after the night and no doubt a few disagreements but for me i'm no that gutted or upset by the result. The 1st goal was lucky tbh that deflection could have went anywer and the 2nd 1 was bad defending it happens but after that a thought we played pretty good and could have easily pulled that back and got the draw or even won it they were dodgy at the back but we just lacked that cutting edge again. The 3rd goal we were on dead legs and they countered. Salzburg are a classy team and a genuinely think they would give most big champions league teams a beating gutted we got beat but a take no shame in the defeat they have better quality players no getting away from it they have 2 strikers who had a combined goal tally of 45 goals before kick off and it's only november that's a frightening stat and the boy kempl is away 2 leverkusen for 10m in january so they are a quality side. Said it before ronny needs 2/3 transfer windows before he can really be judged. Only criticism of him a had tonight was a thought he should have went with 2 up top especially at home needing a win before the game so we qualified with no help elsewer and stokes shouldn't have started and mulgrew should have been subbed long before he did cause again in midfield with us he was atrocious. Thought brown and griffiths were outstanding tho. Anyway bring on the last 32 the 2 domestic cups and hopefully a few january signings. #InRonnyWeTrust HH

Once again I am questioning the ability of young Mcgregor, I thought Forrest was more involved when he came on than Mcgregor was all night.

Mcgregor is not to the correct standard of a Celtic first team player, that being said he should have had a penalty.

Hopefully now we have qualified we get some real talent in.

Disagree about the pen lol he made the most of it. If that was gave against us we would have been screaming we were cheated but a do agree he has went right off the boil a dunno what's happened with him and matthews aswel he looks like all the injuries have finally caught up with him he looks a shadow of the player he was

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I thought he had made the most of it at first as well but looking back at it he was pushed off the ball before he got the chance of pulling the trigger and contact is contact no matter how soft.

Time for RD to realise we have not got the players to play a fast pressing game, they have! Our movement when in possession is terrible, our passing has been very poor, more aimless 50-60 yarders, and nothing really to be optimistic about. In saying that we are still in it! We also seem to be carrying far to many players. McGregor needs to start getting his basic game right and Mulgrew needs to be closer to his man, the first goal a perfect example of not closing quickly.

Izzy, despite the assist, is bleedin awful at crossing and Stokes has done pretty much nothing. Big Virgil needs to have a look if he thinks he could face the top EPL strikers and Effie is a nightmare waiting to happen. We need to keep the ball, same old story.Strangely we might just pull this off. fingers crossed.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

McGregor, Mulgrew, stokes and ambrose are not good enough. Saying that would of rather seen mulgrew at cb than ambrose.

Izzy could do with decent competition for LB. Don't know how much Jordan Lukaku would cost, but would be ideal

Agree1 Disagree0

Brilliant game imo. on the edge of my seat. they are a class act and we are holding our own after a poor start. big push for the last ten!

broony is everywhere, he has some engine

Agree1 Disagree0

Agree Edinbhoy, CFC well better from 20 mins. Only downside was not bring Scepovic on, Commons has been a wasted sub

Agree0 Disagree0

Much better second half. But another gifted goal takes the edge off a spirited 45 min.Agree it was a great game to watch and we could, and maybe should, have scored. Still 1-2 or 1-3 we are through.Upside is if we can take that second half tempo through the season we should cruise domestically, but cut out the basic defensive errors obviously.

Agree0 Disagree0

We're through but another shocker all round. Need to get rid of Mulgrew, Stokes and Ambrose. Stokes brings absolutely nothing to the team and Mulgrew should be nothing more than a bench warmer. Really disappointed at the performance!

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree edinbhoy tonev has had a good game since he has come on

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I also think it was a lot to ask of griffiths to complete 90mins. Guessing he would have come off if mulgrew had not been injured.

mcgregor does seem to be struggling just now. hopefully forrest has come back into fitness at the right time.

plus sides for me. johanson and brown were great. izzy has the potential to be devastating but really needs to work on the final ball. also we are through, puts the astra draw into perspective maybe.

away in zagreb will be a good game, with the pressure off. let's hope for another win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poor start think their first goal couldve been flagged for offside when ball went loose as the man offside interfered then decided to leave it for Alan. 2nd half we was unlucky played much better just didn't take our chances and the usual Gordon error parrying into the danger area

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said GJ I have been saying since beginning o the season we don't have the players for it. 2 most obvious things for me. 1, Commons not a 1st pick when he was obv our best player but doesn't suit managers way of playing. 2 Mcgregor who is obv playing very poorly just now but is a pick because he is young and the manager can influence him very easily and will do what he is told. Why pick a player who is obv out of form ahead of another who might be playing well surely that doesn't help the team. His quote last night of saying the "Red Bull team all has commitment to work together for the benefit of the team" in my opinion is a disgrace, he is clearly having a go at players who he thinks is not buying into his ways. Here is heads up RD if performances like that continue it won't be the players who will get sacked.

Only luck Celtic have in Europe is bad luck

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The ref has to be the Willie Collum of zTurkey

Agree1 Disagree0

Virgil having a nightmare, Efe all over the place and stokes being shown up for what he is out left. What is wrong with Forrest? Mcgregor is not up to it at all.

That line-up worries and confuses me more than a little but I will reserve judgement for 90 mins or so.
What is going on with Lustig btw?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2014 19:24:39
I am a fan of RD but I really hope he has got the right team to start

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Perfect for me. But then I did a doublt take and realised Efe has popped up in central defence. Hope the guy has a decent game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would of rather seen mulgrew at cb. At start of any game it's common practice to predict score. When Efe is playing, it's more a case of predicting how many mistakes he will make. Hope this is not the case

Anybody heard how Michael Duffy, the lad from Derry is doing this week, he is very highly thought of and will move on for a week at Bournemouth after us, so I am told.
I hope we can scrap our way through tonight, I think they will try to hit us hard early and we must be ready for that, also RD should not know that we cannot sustain ourselves through the 60/70 minute mark, passing and ball retention becomes 4th rate, so I hope he can be more constructive on his use of Subs, might Lee Griffiths get a shout tonight?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2014 14:51:06
Kris Commons should be given at least a 3 year contract, 27 league goals he scored last season, who else came close to scoring as many goals as him, Celtic have wasted money on loans deals like Berget, Tonev, wakaso, and signed Scepovic, Celtic already had a player signed, his name Leigh Griffiths, a forward who would score goals if Deila would give him a chance, In my opinion he would score more goals than Scepovic, In Celtics last Europa Cup game, Griffiths was more of a goal threat in the short time he was on the park.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2014 15:51:51
Na I agree with the club one this one, his age is against him and one decent injury and the club could lose a lot of cash as well. He has served the club well but sometimes you have to look out for the club's best interest.

Agree4 Disagree0

Darren you are right .

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with Glen, can't believe that some folk are prepared to let our most creative player leave in the 'club's interest'? madness.

Agree0 Disagree1

Its bad business practice offering 3 year deals to 32 year old players. Potentially commons could rapidly decline at this stage.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 14:41:46
Two huge games coming up that will determine how we go into the new year and obviously I hope we win both. I know we have been debating the performances and lack of good football these past months, but I would settle for successive scrappy wins to keep the momentum going and hopefully build confidence - however a couple of stylish victories would be magic!
COYBIG.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree jj but we don't really expect great performances in Europe as the opposition is very difficult. Any win in Europe is good but its the daily grind of the Spl where we should be showing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 12:24:31
I hope that Celtic are doing everything to keep John Guidetti at the club. He MUST be kept on the books. If they let him go it will be a disgrace. PL always says we are a big club, big clubs pay big wages. GET THE BISCUIT BOX OUT NOW. Kris Commons must also be allowed to stay. Why let a genuine good player go and bring in a CHEAPER option who might not be a good replacement, which usually happens.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

If guidetti does stay won't he be a cheap options?

Agree0 Disagree0

I want Celtic to do everything that could reasonably be expected to keep GUIDETTI.
I don't think they can offer Commons a three year deal because he will be 32 in the summer and even now there are question marks against his fitness . He doesn't seem to naturally fit into Deila's style of play .

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 15:56:37
sorry TTTS , how can you say JG would be a cheap option. he would cost £3-5 m and at least £40 k per week. How do you see that as cheap, having said that I do want us to sign him

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2014 17:44:35
Hope for your sake you can secure JG. Actually a funny thing is that your teams taco nights could be the reason why he signs. Like Ibrahim (a norwegian player from the City youthsystem) said, if your not a star in that club nobody cares for you. So this can be a big factor. If you also win tonight and qualify for the knockout stages, he will play EL come january. So if you win tonight (i'll cross my fingers and toes, while watching), ill think you will get some good news in a few days/weeks.

Now Mrs E. I was over to the dark side and saw a poll of the day suggested by MrsE. same person? (Simple question about HP)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - if we get a poll question that can be used on more than one site, it will get used across them mate. It doesn't mean the person suggesting it has been on that site.}

I don't think i've seen it on this site.

No, I've not been posting on the Rangers page lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there are more backed up for Celtic as Ed007 entered a large batch of them. So it has probably just not been reached yet.}

Hmmm explains a few things :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea what you could mean....... ;o)

Mrs E apologies if offended. Ed thanks for explanation. Others, don't read anything into this. As Ed explained, a good poll is shared and I thought this was a legitimate question. So Mrs E tops the polls. (As you would expect of a Celt. )

Just heard the tragic news that Phil Hughes has past away.

R.I.P Phil a great young cricketer taken too soon.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this sad time.

Just seen the news Frewbhoy, only 25. This world is a horrible, cruel place at times.

Rest In Peace young man x

Well said Frewbhoy! Absolutely gutted by this and great to see the sporting communities around the world giving their support!

He will be missed out here and always remembered!

I know it's a bit of the topic, but I would just like to send out hopes and prayers to Phil Hughes and his family.

Playing a game he is good at and probably loves he was involved in a freak accident and is now battling for his life, never nice to see a person plying their trade not returning home safely after work.

All the best Phil hope you pull through.

hi ed : don't know if it has been raised but can you advise on what the rule is with regard to simulation. The reason is big tampon was given a 2 game ban for simulation yet big elbow and law clearly dived at swinecastle on Saturday yet to no action taken therefore is the ruling that if you gain an advantage from simulation you are punished but if not then no action is taken.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea what happened at Tynecastle.}

Simulation is like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, depends what the ref thought at the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

In Scotland may also depend on whether the player is wearing green and white hoops or a blue top.
