Just back from the northern ireland match and all i can say is we have to put in a bid for paddy mcnair! The man controlled the midfield playing some great passes, breaking up any attacks and he also has a serious eingine to get up and down the pitch, looks like a complete athlete. Albeit against a crap belarus team but i believe he could mix it with the best. With mourinho coming into utd now would be a great time to put a bid in!

Must be some strong grass around Windsor Park sir.

A bit of an oxymoron, a Celtic fan going to a North of Ireland match . I went once and heard enough to do me, it was the day George Best scored the perfectly good goal against Gordon Banks but it was disallowed.

I just saw a leaked photo online of the away strip, all black with gold badge gold nb sign and gold dafabet logo. It has just been taken down very quickly so can anyone shed some light?

Hope it's as nice as the 125 year Anniversary kit, Please someone post a photo. Makes me think of Joe Ledley. Such a great player for us.

28 May 2016 07:49:49
It was really smart, dunno if the new balance sign was too big suggesting it was a fake (not really an expert on making a mock up kit) . Pictures seem to have all disappeared! If this was the kit I'd be delighted.

Anybody watch the Australia game? How'd did rogic play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 May 2016 22:34:24
Seen the first have Rogic played well had a few runs in to the box, he had a few shots outside the box. He was energetic to say the least he was getting at england with his chasing down and running if Arsenal are watching ad say they would have been impressed.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2016 23:00:19
Never thought I'd here Rogic described as energetic.

27 May 2016 23:16:15
DesH i did say i only saw the first tbf, 2nd half could well have been another story. I was supprised at some of his movement if he keeps it up i would snub any bids and be happy to build the team arround him.

27 May 2016 23:45:37
Seen 1st have and everything good the aussies done went through him and a guy named mooy (I think) .
When I flipped back over he was coming off and the commentator was saying he should be happy with his game tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2016 01:03:03
Desh. With you on that he might be putting in a shift to shift?
I'd love to keep him. I've had a wee feeling for a while he might not be here next year if £5m with adds is offered . he will go for.

28 May 2016 03:31:25
Apparently the mob are after Mooy, he must be out of contract.

Glen Driscoll been announced tonight as performance director, previously worked at Chelsea Swansea and Liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 May 2016 21:54:11
Ed, do u know wat glen Driscoll is like, is he any gd, well thought of?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't have a clue but his CV is impressive enough that's for sure. We're building back room staff of EPL quality and that's got to be a massive improvement on what we've got used to.}

27 May 2016 22:33:33
I must admit I'm getting more and more excited about the season ahead, and that's without signing any players yet!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 22:50:28
Ed is big Helga the physio away too?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yeah the backroom staff RD brought in left with him. Tim Williamson who has been on gardening leave since the new physios came in will more than likely be brought back.}

28 May 2016 01:11:43
What is a performance director?, is it like a choreorographer,?, why can't we just have a manager and a coach, like in the good old days.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure that's what Brian McClair's SFA title is and here's a job description for it with the NI FA:

www.sportsrecruitment.com/jobs/details/652/elite-performance-director

Sounds very similar to a DOF - which begs the question again, what is John Park doing for his wages now? Every appointment Rodgers is making is chipping away at Park's duties. Should we call him Mr Rodgers? Dignity/respect and all that....

28 May 2016 03:34:33
Parks will be moved upstairs into Lawwell's office to dot the I's and stroke the T's on his bonus contracts.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2016 00:48:45
Parks should be put out on the road as a full time scout . If I remember correctly we were buying better players at small prices when he was doing that, after he came first . I prefer him away from Peter Lawwell.

I don't think we really need any more than 4 or 5. But they need to be quality.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 May 2016 22:35:06
Agree Marco, I'd be happy with 3 quality signings and a more compact squad. Personally I think we should increase the wage bill slightly for these three signings (35k) for some quality, it would result in us shopping in a whole new market. I realise he is going to Boro but someone like Viktor Fisher would be the type of player that would excite the fans, show a real sign of intent etc.

Evening ED. would you have any info on Tom Rogic if he's any closer to signing a new deal or will he be for the off. Plenty of talk about various clubs going to be bidding for him and with only 12 months left on his deal if he's not for signing I can see why the board may cash in on him now.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Talks with Rogic's agent stalled when RD announced he was leaving and as far as I know there's been nothing since.}

27 May 2016 15:53:02
How many people think Gordon should be number one next season? Really not too sure myself but would prioritise outfield players over replacing him. A decent strike partner/ cover if playing one up for LG would be top of my list (if we could nail that it would be amazing, years since we've had 2 decent strikers. Lustig used to be a great RB and still a good player but fmdefinitely an area, sham Janko didn't work out. Wondering if we already have a decent left wiger if GMS can step up. Mulgrew is a player who has wound me up for a fair while and I think a new deal for him is a bigger gamble than sticking with Gordon in sticks. ST RB, LW and RCB the areas it think we really need. A 15 mill wise spend on them could see us make up some lost ground.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

27 May 2016 16:23:27
There are far weaker positions in our team than the goalkeeper. Could we strengthen that position? Probably, but as you say I wouldn't say its a priority.

Agree5 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:28:40
Craig Gordon had a few bad early season moments in the European campaign especially but had a pretty solid last half of the season. I wouldn't change him because he has just went through the season relatively uninjured so in my eyes had proved his fitness. People who want Logan Bailly installed as the number one are in my opinion absolutely bonkers. From what I saw he is a carbon copy of Zauluska but with a pony tail.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:46:12
I would like to think we will be signing better players than LG and not just signing cover for him. He has had a very good season in the league, but we need to be looking better than him though if we want to make any kind of mark on the European stage. I want to be at a stage when LG is the back up for our strikers and not the main man.

Agree2 Disagree4

27 May 2016 16:51:05
I wouldn't prioritise outfield players necessarily. I mean, there are positions I'd go for first but the GK is just as important, if not more. It can't be too easy playing infront of CG with some of the horror shows he's had. He offers little assurance to the back line and his reluctance to command his area and come off his line leaves defenders in no mans land. Said in a thread down the page, he's no where near our last keeper, and doesn't have potential to be. A new GK, experienced CB and a ST/ WF are my 3 main areas.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 17:05:27
Fair point Joe. Calls for Bailly as no one literally have no basis: we have keeper who the jury is out on but has had some amazing performances and we have a guy who's gametime is so limited nothing but the fact that he is Belgium can be used as evidence. Definitely focus on the outfield, front and back.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 17:53:03
I have my doubts about Gordon, he seems to be a little mistak prone in big matches I know less about Bailly and many regard him as similar to Zaulluska, I don't see how we couldn't as Bailly has been used just as seldom as his predecessor and so it's no wonder that people compare them .

Signing better than L G would be a great idea only beaten by picking our best 11 and buying better than each of them . I don't think either will happen and I will settle for two or three good players in areas that Brendan Rodgers sees us weak . let's hope that B R can introduce three or four youngsters this year and they make a great impact.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:18:04
Its a strange situation we are in where we are overloaded with midfielders yet that's by far our weakest area of the team, which is pretty crazy actually! GK/ Defence is good with everyone fit, attack is strong if you include Roberts as an attacker alongside Griffiths. But our midfield was shocking last season, both individually and collectively. Rogic the only player who gets pass marks for his efforts.

Agree1 Disagree2

27 May 2016 19:18:49
CG needs competition and that's not coming from baily, however I would be content with CG for next season, if the money is spent on the right players instead.

I like Roberts but I am concerned he may turn into a one trick pony, cut in on the left and shoot.
Long may this continue if he continues to score, but I would imagine the opposition will double team and figure him out, however his feet are quick so bring it on!

For me I would spend the lot on a striker and lift the whole stadium. Don't know who but definitely not some dross like fletcher.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 19:21:31
JimTim you say it must be bad playing infront of GC, but what about the defence that he has been playing behind? Half the season the defence has been in turmoil and it is no fluke that he has steadied himself and really not put a foot wrong since Svievchenko came through! You can be one of the best GKs in the world but if your defence is constantly leaving you exposed you are not going to come out smelling of roses.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 May 2016 20:17:01
Fair-ish point Tompo. The errors I'm referring to are the ones which can't really be pinned to anybody other than CG. It's not really a defenders fault when you flap at a basic ball or can't get off your line quick enough. All GKs have jobs to do. He hasn't put a foot wrong since a lot of pressure lifted from being out of cup football more like. He's a liability.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 20:56:27
I reckon get big Jozo and Erik playing together and you will see a lot better keeper in CG. May be wrong but was thinking who we could potentially get to replace him, but on his day I think he is as good, if not better as anyone we could hope for. Hopefully we will see more consisticy this season or else I'll put my hands up Jim! From what I've seen of Bailey would be more interested in seeing Fasan if CG needs a rest.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 14:21:53
ED007 if our criteria is still signing good hungry young players with talent at decent prices here are two players one of my Celtic pals researched.
Ivan Mocnic (23) currently captain of HNK Rijeka a Croatian team, and I believe he is a pal of Simonivic. Brown is not going to last forever and apparently this guy is strong defensive midfielder.
Mohamed Elyounoussi (21) Molde
my friend raves about this player and I remember him against Celtic.
Already got good european experience and both these players would not break the bank either in terms of transfer fee or wages.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 May 2016 15:42:02
Just read bout them on the celtic blog.
I mind the molde player running riot against us.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:17:24
Elyounoussi was all over us in that show.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:45:57
Elyounossi would be a great signing. 2.5 million is what is quoted for him but think some Turkish team (besiktas perhaps) are looking at him. Then it's down to the crazy wages they would offer.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:47:03
We've already shown interest in both of those players Timalloy. Both look good, particularly Elyounoussi who I've been bangin on about for about a year now, but if we didn't sign him on RD's recommendation, we aren't going to now.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 17:13:54
Again Jimtim I agree with u rd wanted elynoussi n park/ lawell gave him ckRichards talk about lack of support n being a forward/ striker who could score goals anywhere he would easily have been a great signing for Rd and us. You have to wonder what the hell they were thinking.
As for signings i would take both of those mentioned and would like to see us go for another striker, Jonathan s would be good however don't know if he's as mobile as we may look for. Finn looked good in Holland but has been mixed elsewhere, Danny Graham I don't fancy as I don't think he can improve us. We need to buy better players than we have but also the club as a whole buying better, extend the wage structure 2 get that better quality of player, midfielder (if we sell or get rid of as many as rumoured) striker and another goalkeeper. Defensively I think if jozo gets fit it's him n big Erik at centre back and I think we're okay in cover with boyata, mulgrew and even Ambrose although if any are moved on then I'd like to see a good centre half come in to push jozo n Erik. Hail hail PS ed001 mentioned EMre mor I think it was who's playing in Denmark just now and is reckoned to be one to watch, haven't checked him out so unsure of position but I wouldn't think players in Scandinavia would be out of our wage bracket.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:01:50
There must be scores of very good young players for. every position scattered all over Europe . scouts and managers must be spoilt for choice and at the end of the day probably cannot make up their mind . I am sure most clubs buy in some football genius from some exotic football outpost and often have better from within their own ranks . Players bought for reasonably big fees are more likely to be picked than a youngster that came through the ranks.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:08:01
Vincent jannsenn cf
Sebastian haller cf
Hakim ziyach mid
Markus henrickson mid
Sven van beek ch
Joel veltman ch
Each would cost big money but a combination of a fw mid and ch out of these wouldn't be much more than our supposed 15 mill budget . we will also sell and probably recoup much if not all of that outlay.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:53:42
Both Leicester and Roma had their scouts in the Molde-Sevilla games and i think Elyounoussi will go for more than 2,3 mill.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 19:02:13
Elyounoussi might be the best evidence that RD had little if none support come player signings. Hopefully Rodgers will, as it seems.

27 May 2016 12:49:18
I don't think we need to buy loads of new players I really think with a couple of decent buys and getting rid of the guys that are not giving 100% and the ones that simply ain't good enough we will be in good shape.

I would like to buy 1 really good striker and a left midfield player who can do what Roberts has been doing on the right. With a diamond shape in midfield I would give this a go let me know what you think guys and what you would do.

27 May 2016 15:21:09
Have you watched Brown and to a lesser extent Biton lately SOS ? that's what you call push.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:20:31
Brown has at least looked like he is trying. Reckon Bitton should be moved on and perhaps for a decent fee. When he's good he goes into slow motion. Right enough though, his disinterest has had him in slow motion for a good 4 months too.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 17:31:12
Agree with that daviebhoy. Biton just looks as if he's not interested. Maybe the change of manager will help him get back to his best because he was good last year. But I'd sell him on if we got offered 6m plus a sell on clause. Brown will hopefully get back to his best but he has to perform this year.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:04:06
Sos I'm neither drunk nor high. Sj was head and shoulders above anyone else last year and plays that role well for Norway. Armstrong has been played out of position since he joined us rather than spend millions give him a chance first we have friendlies so what's the risk in trying it? Brown and biton have been terrible all year also so with your logic are you also drunk or high?

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:06:42
Sos you may disagree with what I suggest so give me your opinion? Mr Rodgers isn't going to listen to either of us but it's good to have an opinion.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2016 18:57:26
Stefan Johansen is a player that typically play's his best football when the conditions is set right for him. that's why i think all the RD noise has made him unsure and that's why his football has been crap. In his worst season ever for Celtic he was one of the national team's outstanding players agains Croatia and Italy in the same time. Give him a reason to thrive and he will be back with a bang.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2016 20:06:40
Norwegianred I couldn't agree more I think if we let this guy go we will regret it.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 22:22:00
Norwegianred, I remember Johanson said somewhere last September that having been player of the year the previous season he couldn't understand the abuse he got from the stands so early this season especially as he was playing with injury .
Not only did he get a hard time from some loud mouths within Celtic Park he also got regularly ridiculed in Celtic forums.
Celtic fans surprising wonder why his confidence has been dented . Of course it was S J fault he came from the same country as his manager and many Celtic fans think Norwegians are of a lower std football wise .

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 12:35:44
Why not take the chance on Will Grigg. When we signed Hooper he only had couple of decent seasons at an even lower level . Another 1 who fits the bill is Bradley Dack of Gillingham. Young hungry and knows how to stick the ball in the net.
Thoughts lads?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - So what 'bill' do they exactly fit? The same one as Pukki, Balde, Bangura etc etc. I thought fans were fed up with us signing players that might work out or are cheap projects?}

27 May 2016 12:56:05
Got to agree with Ed here we need a proven striker I would rather we spent 10 million on a striker than 2 million on 5 new players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Grigg's only in the spotlight because of that daft song competition. The majority of supporters will have never heard of him before that and probably just want him to sign so they can sing the song. What's the point in signing a player who isn't any better than what we already have?
Gary Hooper left Celtic at the same age Grigg is just now, so he's hardly a young player, if he was 19/20 I could see the point but not someone who is 25.
If we don't have a young striker at the Club better than Grigg, or with better potential, then there's something far wrong.}

27 May 2016 14:48:21
i liked the look of mbokani (excuse spelling) at norwich, big powerful foil for griffiths, would cost 10 mill i think.

Agree0 Disagree3

27 May 2016 16:12:55
If he's going to cost £10m u can forget it. your dreaming bud if u think we've got that much to spend on one player.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:56:09
People wonder why we're not a CL club, yet suggest we sign a player from League 1. It's early days considering the window isn't even open but if the team comes out again looking weaker I hope people don't forget what they were complaining about a few weeks ago with regard to downsizing and expect everything to be brushed under the carpet simply by getting a new gaffer in.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 May 2016 16:58:23
i personally don't think we will ever spend 10 mill on a player steph, but agree with kerzo, would rather buy 1 10 mill player than 5 2 mill players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 May 2016 11:09:04
He got 28 overall I read. Very decent return. Wigan made an offer for Ciftci but he knocked them back to come to us so there could potentially be a deal to be done if, and it's a huge if, they still fancy him and BR genuinely does want Griggs. Also Gary Caldwell being their gaffer could make things a wee bit smoother.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 May 2016 15:16:08
We don't need angone else to score in Scotland we need a striker that can score in Europe, that's what we need now.

27 May 2016 17:57:22
Grigg scores goals but Bradshaw from walsall winnallfrom barnsley Gregory from millwall or Taylor from Bristol rovers are better options hooper came from Scunthorpe and he was the best striker since Henri in my opinion a good striker knows how to score goals and think these players will score loads.

3 of the list are already away so it's a start. The only ones I think we will have trouble shifting are commons, stokes and ambrose as I don't think they will get similar salaries elsewhere.

I would have thought those still contacted. . would chance their arm under new manager . but if they've agreed great 2 down but at least 7 to go.

I know we have our three glamour games arranged for around the season start and we were probably not arranging any pre - season fixtures until we got our new manager in .
I was thinking that Celtic could do a lot worse than arrange a mini tour of Southern Ireland and they could play a match every day if they wanted against teams in the middle of season and at a standard not much different than the first two rounds Celtic will play in Europe .
This would also mean a lot less travelling than other pre- seasons.

{Ed007's Note - Are you on the whiskey tonight Chris? A game every day is a bit much mate - can you imagine Kris Commons face!!}

Won't they have 24/ 25 at least of a squad . There is no point in coming to beautiful Ireland and looking at the scenery . Just a couple of games for everyone to get the feel of the ball back. I think Commons will be across the border by then, I mean the one between Scotland and England and not the one your fore fathers created artificially in our wee Island.
