re sopot celt yes some of the reaction is extreme but this is a situation that needs to be addressed it can't always be an off day, is hampden a mental hurdle for the players, maybe the coach from the gaa,, forgot his name,, should work on this aspect with the first team, even with cl coming up and league about won we have had too many days like today when the whole teams fails to turn up, if we had these forums in the 70s you would have seen the same overreactions, deep river bhoy

Happy 50th birthday to the Football Pools Panel. Great to see my old school-mate Tony Green on tv News on Saturday morning with Gordon Banks, ex-England keeper.
Played football with Tony at St Mungo's Academy from 5th eleven through to 1st eleven, in the 60s.
Best football player ever to come out of Glasgow (me-thinks).
Tony made a decision to either go to uni or play professional football. Tony signed for Blackpool.
After a few years major English clubs tried to buy Tony but Blackpool chairman stated -They had a better chance of buying Blackpool Tower.
Newcastle eventually got Tony for £100,000, the highest transfer fee within the UK at that time.
Tony got injured playing for Scotland at Hampden.
The Big Question is why Celtic never signed the "Blond Bombshell" from school, for nothing?
He waited for the knock on the door that never came.

Just back from game and have been reading all posts so thought I'd put my tuppence in . Firstly NL should have started with Commons . Couldn't believe when I got into game he was on the bench . Next was our captain today who had a dive in the centre circle then St Mirren went up the park which led to penalty and second goal . No motivation . Subs were a joke . We were 3-1 down and I know Sammy and Big Vic were having mares . But take Wilson and Izzy off and go for it and why wasn't Watt or Mcgeough there . Another treble bites the dust and I'm so disappointed like every Celtic fan but the manner we were beaten with especially never testing the opposition goalie at all leaves me wondering at times that Do the team on the park have the hunger as the fans on the terraces . I seriously doubt it ......DH

Believable3 Unbelievable2

It was a classic if only scenario DH. Mulgrew sticks that penalty in and St Mirren heads go down, that's football. The worrying thing is they just did not look to have any fight about them.I also think Zalukus should have played his last game, always looks shaky to me and Mulgrew needs "rested" for sure........green jhedi

27 Jan 2013 21:27:47
We're having a bit of (irrelevant) debate here about the 2 penalties. What did everyone think of them? My own view is they were as Lenny says both soft but I have to say St Mirren's was much more of a penalty than ours as Mulgrew lifts his arms (albeit instinctively) whereas haivng has a chance to watch back the ball actually deflected of the St Mirren players chest and clipped his arm I think the rule is all about arms being in an unnatural positon is it not. Any thoughts ed etc? {Ed007's Note - I would have given both of them, players know the risks of having their arms out/up.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I thought both were harsh but if you go by the laws both penalties.......green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree1

I thought our penalty was harsh. St mirren player was falling and it comes off his chest first. Their penalty was a penalty every day of the week. My only real problem with either was the st mirren keeper at least a yard off his line when Mulgrew hits it. Should have been re taken, but it was still poorly taken.

8 games into his management of our club we were put out of the semi final v ross county in one of the worst celtic games I can remember.
lennon accused the players of being lazy, guttless, and clueless.
since that game we have allowed neil to build his own team with reasonable success.
however after ross county we have had the same guttless performances v hearts, killie, rangers and now st mirren.
i thought neil would at the least have his team fighting for our club the way he did as a player but I just don't see it.
his next signing must be a leader of men as we don't have any in this team

The problem is with hampden itself, why use it for semis when you know half of its going to be empty? it feels like a pre season friendly or a testimonial rather than a semi final of one of the countrys major trophys. We should use hibs hearts or aberdeen for semis. I've been to hampden 3 times iand I can tell you its one of the worst stadiums I've been too, fans to farway from the pitch its just an awful experience no spark no charisma nothing just a dire. Atleast if we played the semis at one of the grounds I mentioned they would be full, the atmosphere be good, fans close to the pitch giving the full monty bring a bit of spark to the game, anyone else agree? its embarrassing seeing a stadium half empty for a semi final. maybe the players feel that too? Belfastbhoy!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

It is a dreadful stadium with no soul, but Aberdeen or Edinburgh? For two, more or less, Glasgow clubs? I found it a bit strange we never sold our allocation out, that's disappointing for me.......green jhedi

Absolutely shocking.... Don't know what's worse, the performance or coming home to read on here what the snipers are saying!! Some of the posts are valid and most are a joke but that's opinions for ye.
Yes Hooper had a first touch like a lamp post and Wanyama had his worst game in the hoops! Hopefully the scouts were watching that!
No pass marks for anybody, no fight, no desire, but its a one off game that anyone can win and St Mirren wanted it more. If it was a league game would all the snipers be out out? Doubt it, 12 points clear, breathing space, get on with the next game! I get what the regular posters are saying but the guys that don't leave a name and post crap! When everything's good were world beaters, "we don't need new players" "we've got a great squad" lose 1 game....." Get rid of him". "He's mince"... Make yer mind up FFS... When its all Rosie in the garden it's brilliant, it takes a defeat for some to see we need to strengthen! Aye am ragin with the result and performance, no given rights to win any game and the team didn't want it enough going by their efforts!
If we beat Juve (doubtfull)? Will the same snipers come on and say well done? Also doubtfull! Some if the posts aren't worth a comment but @ Green Jedhi, you and a few other talk the most sense on here so just wondering about your earlier comment, "St Mirren had a game plan and stuck to it"? From what I seen their game plan was to go out and win the game, so why wouldn't they stick to it? Not a dig GJ
Wonder what the score would have been if Ambrose had played? Lol, rant over.....sorry ed and the sensible regulars.

Bigbadjohn, I think the team are usually well organised but I've always said we lack a player than gets you off your seat... Someone with a bit of oooommph !

Maybe a creative midfielder

The games over, we can't go back in time and play it again.

@BBJohn; that's my point mate.lennon shaped his team to counter our front three. This let them have two breaking from midfield without worrying about getting caught, they had two deep sitters for protection. In this respect they did stick to their plan, a few times in the second half they almost caught us.Even his subs never changed the shape of his team and fair play to him.Lennons natural reaction at 3-1 might have been to lose a forward thinking player and stick another defender in. Stuck to his plan and got what they deserved...........green jhedi

Very poor today but let's not get carried away, you only have to look down in England to see all the shocks down there .
What is worrying though Is the desperation we show when chasing a game . We look completely desperate, I don't know how many long range shots we tried today then subs we bring on stokes and commons do exactly the same, I thought subs were meant to change games. Bitterly disapponited but that's football and hopefully soon we'll be singing their praises again

First off well done St Mirren. They had a game plan and stuck to it well.Celtic on the other hand were nothing short of a disgrace.Losing I can take, but losing without showing the attributes our club demand is unforgivable. It looked as if our team had just met each other in the tunnel, and the lack of heart and passion was appalling. So many passengers it was frightening, tactically one dimensional and even after a gift penalty we could not kick on.Which brings me to Mulgrew. Is he living on taking a good dead ball? Ball watching at the first goal, a pathetic pass back penalty and a stupid dive in to gift Saints their penalty. This is a guy who fancies himself from thirty yard free kicks so why did he not get his laces through the penalty? Zaluska never inspires confidence, Izzy has to remember he is a defender first and I hope Big Vic is not having his head turned by his, deserved, glowing praise. I also think their Lennon second guessed ours and set up perfectly to cope with three up, it helps when two of them don't look interested, and broke with purpose on us.We were predictable and just not sharp enough.
The two efforts that hit wood were, in my opinion, bad misses.Hooper had time to go across the keeper and Sammi had the jump on a much smaller defender. For me only brown, matthews and ledley get pass marks, and even then they are barely a five.I posted before the game that this group of players had to start closing trophy games out, sadly it looks like it might be beyond them. Even the atmosphere was flat from the fans.No confidence in the players perhaps? This team needs surgery and creativity quickly. The subs? I would have had Kayal on at half time for lassad and moved Sammi up longer with Hooper. Lustig for Mulgrew and put Matthews up one. Very poor and a major let down in a season that promised so much.........green jhedi

GJ totally agree with you, but first well done Saint Mirren hope they go on and win cup now.
I am of an age where the league cup was always a bogie tournament for us so I saw today coming..
But all week the press have gone on about last 7 games Celtic scored 22 Saints 0, our daft players seem to believe all this guff and go onto pitch thinking game is won.
Lassad/Samaras are gutless when chasing a game you need battlers out there.
Hampden is big and wide we needed more width, if Mathews and Izzy are having poor games we have no wide players. Young Dylan gives us width and pace why not play him? Also young Watt gives you energy unlike Lassad. Sammy? one of his "could not care less days"
The attitude of the team was summed up in Mulgrew's penalty, easy oasy.
I cannot fathom Hooper out also, is he wanting away now? if so take the £7m+ and get in Austin or Rhodes. Timalloy

Agree1 Disagree2

I think one of the main problems we have is we have too many midfielders and they are all holding mids which limits the options for changing a game,,,, deep river bhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

I wouldn't have given any of them pass marks, they all played well below par. I posted in the first half that this was going the way of the Ross county and Kilmarnock games. You could just see that there was no urgency whatsoever, to many players looking for someone else to do something.

Briggs

Agree1 Disagree0

Think wanyama should have been pulled earlier and its good to see Lennon not afraid to take him off. Commons needed to come on earlier so he had time to get into the game and make passes and not try to beat 2 guys every time. Kayal should have been on around the 50 min mark cause he would have ran down thier players to win the ball and not just give them space to do what they want.

Agree1 Disagree0

Don't usually go in for I would have done this & that after the fact, but the bhoys & ghirls on here praise our passion that is Celtic & all things Celtic daily so here goes. At the game midweek I thought rogne didn't give daily of utd a sniff, big strong striker who was throwing the toys out the pram after a couple of tussle's got nowhere done little from there. Wilson for me this season you would be lucky if you could count on the 1 hand the mistakes he has made for me has had a very good season so far especially europe, I would have went with rogne though. Not as pacy but now deals better with a big target man imo & wilson missd a couple recently due to suspension bit rusty for me, stokesy wouldn't have been near the bench for me missed a lot of football lucky if he has 30 mins competitive football. We would have been better served by watts directness & pace or another midfielder enabling cover for the fullbacks or stopping wee gowser playing between the def & mid, really were all over the shop in the midfield today. Disappointed but never disheartened & wee know nobody is more disappointed & hurt than Neil Lennon, Wednesday can't come quick enough for me. Mon the hoops ! AbS

Agree0 Disagree0

Ledley was rubbish today.

Maestro08

Agree2 Disagree0

I 100% agree with GJ and the only people that I feel for are lennon and brown, hoopers goal was put on a plate for him, hooper should also tell us the support(wage payers)what his thoughts are. Peter Lawwell now has to get the cheque book out or get shot of(if they don't wanna be here)of hoops and wanyama and all of the funds ie.20M should be given to lenny. don't forget we have made 20M already from europe. We need to sign some players with guts, as atthe min we are throwing away trophy after trophy. Without that mob we should be expecting to win every domestic trophy NOT good enough, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree1

What price Wanyama now guys? £ 1 million, maybe £ 1.5 million if we're lucky. Every time there's been a big game at Hampden he not only failed to show but actually believes his own hype. Playing a few good games in Europe when we're basically defending in numbers against teams that like to play through the middle, shouldn't mask that, although he's got bags of potential he is no where near the finished article. The only guy trying out there today was Gary and I'm even more afraid that he'll be off during this window. Credit to St. Mirrem though! HH

fed up listening to the same old crap from lennon, "we lacked motivation, signs of complacency etc etc"
also of more concern was he didn't have an answer for it, his words on radio interview.
if that's the case then its time we considered our options at the top.
too many fnas sucked into the lennon factor but look at the "lost" trophies under his leadership, we go on about chuckles and his flock swallowing up every word but are we any different.
the amount of money I've wasted on "complacency" is enough, mayne players should tweet in advance and save us all time and money bothering turning up if they don't fancy it or just assume being there is enough to qualify.
before you all (keyboard fans) start back about being a supporter, I go to vast majortity of games h&a. stevo dundee

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Keyboard fan's WTF doe's that mean so no one but you has to have an opinion, if you feel you have wasted money on complacency do what the rest of the glory hunter's do, stay away, your condemnation of Lennon is a joke and BTW St Mirren deserved their victory today because they out fought us in every department.

Agree2 Disagree1

Glory hunter? That's right so I am. you at the game tambhoy or did you have an excuse to watch on tv?
Any other manager would have questions asked of him if they'd failed in 3 visits on the trot at hampden.
He's in charge of that squad and I stick by the lazy attitude and turning up when suits for cl games. I've said it here plenty of times this season after unacceptable league performances that this attitude would once again haunt us in cups and here we are.
sorry if you don't want to hear the truth. stevo dundee

Agree post 2, the op is way overboard yes it was a crappy game and some thing different need to Chang the game but Lennon has proven he is a great manager and had turned this club around and into something special go relax and have a think. Agree1 Disagree2

@3 Yes I was at the game today and watched us being well beaten by a team that wanted it more than us, I don't throw the dummy out the pram and greet about what I have spent on watching my team, if you can't handle getting beat go shopping with your Mrs she probably know's more about football than you do. Another season, another embarrassment at hampden. Missed at pen to give us the lead and probably the tie but let's be honest Thompson was a sitter away from putting Saints 4-1 up. F*cking embarrassing. Shocking lacklustre start to such an important game and let them get the lead. Lassad shouldn't have even got out or the second half and our defence looked back to the shakey, unsure set up if old. I just hope Lennon absolutely slaughters them, because they're looked like a bunch of bottlers. And the evidence is now there to back it up. Kilmarnock last season in the final, Hearts putting us out the semi's and today again against the 2nd worst team in the SPL if you judge it by they're performances of late.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

They did not play like the 2nd worst team in the league today, when are we going to stop this belief that we should win every game, not going to happen. Well done St Mirren.
Tambhoy

Agree4 Disagree0

So your accepting that then Tambhoy?

St.Mirren turn up with the right attitude, desire and work rate and take our treble away from us. Let me explain something to you mate, if we performed at even 50% yesterday we would have won. That is fact. St. Mirren deserve they're place in the final but because we didn't turn up. The players failed to prepare themselves for the game and started like it was a sunday afternoon stroll and that is unacceptable. People go on about the manager motivating the players, but anyone who has played the game at a decent standard knows you need to prepare yourself, get in the right frame of mind and motivate yourself. Again fact.

We don't have a devine right to win every game like you said. But those players were expected to win yesterday and failed to do they're jobs properly. St.Mirren didn't play fast, flowing skillful attacking football, they didn't have the lions share of the possession and starve us of the ball, they didn't score great goals. They put on a committed, workman like performance. AND that's ALL IT TOOK TO BEAT US. Thompson a sitter away from putting them 4-1 up! F*CKING DISGRACE!

Making excuses about St. Mirren playing well isn't cutting it for me because there is a massive gulf in class regarding the quality in those 2 teams yesterday. Its just the 11 Celtic players had shockers. Some worse than others but no one gets pass marks.

Lennon said maybe Hooper but all he done was score a tap-in that my wee boy would have scored because the pass was so good. Missed a sitter before that.

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 I will have to accept it the game's over, we were beaten by the team that wanted it more simple. As far as the gap in class, can I remind you of Barcelona, all team's lose game's of football, in my opinion St Mirren had a game plan and stuck to it, yes we had player's who did not seem interested, from as early as the tenth minute I had my reservation's about us winning because nothing was going for us, we were second to every ball. I thought the Saint's deserved it. My opinion then my opinion now.

"just get those titles stripped".

That comment completely sums up the mentallity of Celtic fans. The agenda against Rangers is there to be seen by all. Is this what Lawwell is upto, attempting to remove titles from Rangers. Too many players have let Lenny down today! Zaluska not fit to wear the shirt. Mulgrew had a strange off-day. Not that many others are not to be named and shamed but it is very unlike Charlie!

Well done saints

No second effort and no movement from the players just standing still wanting the ball to come to them and too many tricky pass instead of the smart pass. Well done st mirren played good and made us look out of place.

Agree2 Disagree0

More disgraceful than shocking, got the impression they thought they had
only to turn up, and why aren, t the strikers taking penalties nfor me st mirren fully deserved their win.jimbhoy

I thought saints set themselves up to win the game. it could have backfired on them had celtic taken their chances. they took their chances and held the lead well. they chased every ball and gave celtic no room. so well done them. penalty misses are never good but happen. I don't think celtic were dire, saints just played their hearts out and got the luck in front of goal. we move on.

The pitch was shocking too

Hooper, wanyama, and wilson need to wake up 3-1 down to a crap team and no ones trying and the next player to miss a pen needs dropped to prove a point YOU SHOULD NOT MISS THEM

It's got Ross count and Kilmarnock written all over it. Missed chances, giving ball away to easy and to many players have not turned up.

Think the newco set a new world record of having thier heads in the sand for the longest time. For it seems the bubble busted going by thier page, they see ally is no manager and saying how poor they are and would not like to face us, I hope we do face them just to destroy them for bringing our name and buisness up every time. Would be a great way to shut them up and show them just how great we are and how we are growing to bigger things and new hieghts.

I wouldn't want to be on the same park as that mob. Lets be honest we'd put them to the sowrd and there fans would kick off. And we'd get the bad publicity. Green and McCoist have them foaming at the mouth there a riot waiting to happen.

I've canceled espn, 1 celtic game in the next 3 months.... 5 for the Deady bears! I told them why and make sure you do to. Not paying to watch that feckin dross. I know a few folk watch other leagues on there but for me it's a no no.

Bet there's been a few tellys destroyed. I watched some of their match with qp. that defence of theirs was opened up again and again. hooper would have had a field day. but the ref came to their rescue with the red card. even my wife said a few minutes later after another horrendous deady tackle 'why he not getting sent off' and she has no interest. their season ends next week.

Agree1 Disagree2

I know how your feeling. I phoned sly to complain about the amount of 3rd div games being shown live. Told them I wasn't paying subscription fees to watch armature football. They gave me 25% off for te rest of the season taking my bill from £107 pm to £83 pm.

Agree3 Disagree3

Sorry mate but your bill would not have went down by £24 p/m. the 25% off is for your TV channels only......(I know that job inside out ;). I agree with the original point though. I have cancelled my tv as I was looking to watch celtic but hardly been a game on in the last few weeks. Would much rather keep the cash and try and attend a few more games now.
