Well done leigh Griffiths what a gesture . proud to have leigh as our player . #celticfamily.

With regards to players leaving and came in. If you combine transfer fees Celtic have so far only spent net total between £750,000 and£1,000,000.

great innit skinny, improved the squad and not spent any dosh yet.

Ed, like you I had many reservations when we signed Leigh Griffiths. Firstly I thought he was a substandard player and not good enough for us, and secondly I felt his off field conduct left much to be desired. Now I see a player who in my opinion has improved to a level worthy of a place in our team. Not the finished article but a player who has obviously worked on his game and has improved tenfold. As for his off field activities, I don't have, nor want access to his private life, but feel that he seems to have grown up and to an extent grown into the jersey he wears. His gesture today seemed genuine and I think he deserves praise and credit for understanding what it means to be a Celtic player. I was wondering, do you still have doubts or is he growing on you?

Believable7 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I was thinking that to myself today, LG really has really turned his career and life around and good luck to him. I still don't think he's good enough to play as our main striker in Europe if we're playing one up front. I'm delighted that he's made me - and people a lot more knowledgeable than me - to eat our words.}

27 Aug 2016 23:23:56
Ed, from time to time in life we all prejudge others, Leigh Griffiths deserved his reputation and I hope he continues to reform. The Lord loves a repentant sinner.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If he keeps scoring the way he has been he could be with us for years to come. I much prefer being proven wrong than proven right when it comes to not rating any Celtic player.
I don't think Forrrest has enough years left playing football, or even living, to win me over before you think I'm going soft in my old age!}

27 Aug 2016 23:31:57
Remember when Griffiths was a bench warmer and would always chat to fans and kids when warming up even though some were on the wind up. Would like to see 3-5-2 used a bit more and see if Griff and Dembele can strike up a partnership.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 23:38:37
LOL, I won't even attempt to argue with you on that one.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

27 Aug 2016 23:50:50
Gordon was in the studio for the Happy Bear Shavers game and lineker asked him, why only 17 (is it? ) Caps.

GS said in a 2 up front attacking formation he's the man - but most of Scotlands games require someone who can play on their own upfront and hold the line etc etc etc etc as we have to play most games defensively.

I just don't think he did that effectively enough against HBS - he didn't get much support/ service tbf - but imagine the same against Barcelona and Man City.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 23:52:21
Let's be honest, he was a complete tool on and off the field a few years back and we were all well and truly justified in our reservations but he's worked incredibly hard to turn that all around and he must be commended for that. He's on his way to being a club legend if he keeps up this form. He's been down in England and had a very decent scoring record and still wasn't wanted so I could see him being here for a good few years to come.

The wee man has definitely done the business on the park, and stopped the nonsense off it, credit 2 Rd as he started the process of getting lg 2 really fulfill the potential he had n 4 me started the making of it as a proper Celtic player and credit to lg 4 knuckling down n tearing it up in goals and for me he continues improving under br and I hope he can step up in Europe with a bit more experience at that level. Griff is my my wee bhoys favourite player n he loves seeing the wee man score, he was over the moon 2 day.
Hail hail.

28 Aug 2016 09:50:06
Good comment about LG staying for years to come ED. However, on past record, if he does improve as he has been then our board will sell him off. Wee mention for RD who has obviously sat down with the boy and helped him change.
BR has done well so far. Very early days but I am concerned if has some success here then he will jump ship if a big club comes knocking on the door.
Anyway, enjoying the start to the season so far. Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2016 19:05:29
Tiny Tim, I don't believe the Celtic Board will want to sell L G unless he or his agent demands a move. I don't think L G will want to move down south as he has been there and seen that southern pasture are not always green .
He makes no secret of the fact that Hibs are his team and 18 months ago a loan there was all the rage . Thank God common sense prevailed and we have our goal scoring Leigh who this season already has scored regularly in Europe .
If the chances are created L G will convert a reasonable %.

By the way can I just say. What a lovely gesture by grif today. Gets/ has a bad rep by other fans. But geez never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he seem a lovely genuine guy. Seems very heartfelt and sincere

He was the guest of honour at my grandson's boys-club gala in the summer and he was terrific with all the kids and families who approached him for 'selfies', photos and autographs.
The event was in a large field and was not Celtic related and the banter and exchanges were very good humoured.
Funny thing though, I thought he was taller.

Just reading on sly. As of 8pm there are whispers of both palace and Sunderland interested in MCCarthy. Now won't it be interesting to see if all the friend of friend is telling the truth and he wants to come because them have the cash that we can't afford.

Skinny, your luck is starting to run out when it comes to possible signings. Did you not say that one of our signings after champions league qualification would be a new Scottish transfer record.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Aug 2016 10:10:57
I think LG would be the first to admit he is not cut out to be a 'lone striker', but unfortunately most managers are brainwashed with this formation - especially in Europe and as he is the best we have at the club at the moment, he is trying to adjust his game, but it is taking away from his natural talent and instinct in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 21:05:41
Put a wee picture on the sightings page! **** all to do with mccarthy don't get too excited.

Is he injured? He's a good player the Bhoy but he does seem to pick up lot a injuries, good result today no gone a judge the gk after 1 game a lot people on twitter writing him off already but think we really need a rb in like big Lustig but we gone a get targeted there a lot he's legs went a bit iam hoping for another 3 in never mind 1 tbh but wait and see anyway seen us play better but ill take 4-1 anytime.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 22:02:29
Nothing is guaranteed until he signs it's all just rumour hearsay speculation ifs buts and maybes. But he is unhappy at Everton due to Koeman, he does want to play for Celtic, he is in Glasgow, and Celtic have offered a loan deal for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 22:55:36
They said he is not for sale and value him more than the £13M they paid for him. Everton will need money for him if they do decide to sell him and there will be plenty of teams willing to pay over £10M.

I cannot see them letting him join on loan to anyone.

Wondering how the new keeper faired today?

Believable7 Unbelievable6

{Ed007's Note - De Vries wasn't really tested today and the goal was the defence's fault for not clearing their lines but his distribution looked decidedly ropey.}

27 Aug 2016 19:54:47
He wasn't any better than Gordon and that's saying something.

Agree6 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 20:08:52
Agree totally with the above. Considering he was bought as the 'sweeper keeper' i think CG might have been watching feeling slightly aggrieved.
Early days though.
Thought left hand side of defence excellent, Erik had a cigar on. Right hand side not so sure. People didn't agree with this before but i think Kolo is too heavy. Lustig looked unsure and made a number of incomplete passes second half. and was skinned over 10 yds to the bye-line by one of theirs. Thought that was one of our weaker performances so far but tge did 'park the bus'.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2016 19:34:29
Hi Ed, "decidedly ropey" is being far too kind, it was utter mince. I know I'm a fan of Gordon but there is no way this keeper is better than him, you would have to say that even Gordon's distribution is a lot better which is frightening. Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It was his debut so I thought I would try and be nice.}

27 Aug 2016 18:06:50
Edd007 sorry I didn't reply back to you mate. I just seen your reply when I wandered back on the page and remembered. On Rodgers, throughout this season, you'll probably witness selections and substitutions throughout the season that will make absolutely no sense man.
How do you think they'll fare in the champions league?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's one of main things I'll be keeping an eye out for, there's already been some head scratching moments but I've put that down to him just getting to know his squad in competitive matches - time will tell.}

27 Aug 2016 19:42:24
Poor goal conceded but I felt we were the superior team majority of the game. That's our closest rivals n we gave them a pounding, and showed them were the best in the land.
Agree with u Ed about de Vries and his distribution, he tries 2 chip it longer range n isn't very accurate, maybe down 2 nerves I suppose, 1st game full house at paradise against the sheep. All in all done okay, not raving about him but I'll judge him after a run of games see how he comes on.
Glad to see a full Celtic park again and everybody fully behind the team and the manager, that's how it should be year after year, whether we win lose or draw Celtic to the core Celtic faithful through and through.
Hope you enjoyed that 1 2day Ed? did u get along big man? I know u mentioned u might not renew etc due 2 the way the club were being on a few fronts.
I was like that 2 wasn't happy at how Rd was treated as well as lawell interference in transfers, team matters and ignoring res 12 as well as their sevco silence but my wee bhoy is getting right into his football just now, playing n watching and well had 2 get the 3 season tickets again, what can I say I just can't get enough haha hail hail.
Hope u have a good one tonight Ed and all you bhoys and ghirls out there, Charlie n the bhoys on n a jack d n coke poured. Come on you boys in green.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - My nephew and his side-kick use my season tickets mate and have done for a few years now. I felt a bit guilty that after sitting through the last 3 years they wouldn't be able to enjoy the better football/atmosphere etc under Rodgers just because they couldn't afford the price of a ST.}

27 Aug 2016 22:22:31
De vries was obviously nervous today, we have all been there in a new job, although not in front of 60,000 people, fortunately he had little to do. I have seen this guy before and think he will work out. On the manager, so far he has made more good decisions than bad, no manager is right every time. This manager has succeeded in Europe at the first time of asking, which is rare as his predecessors will testify. Things are looking good for us at the moment and we should build on this momentum and back the manager, believe me, our most decorated manager made some odd decisions from time to time.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2016 00:15:17
Ur a good man Ed, we need the younger 1s continuing on our Celtic traditions, that's y I want my bhoy to have a season ticket 4 life, which he will as me n his mum will always pay 4 it.
My dad passed his love of Celtic onto me, he's as mad about Celtic now as he's always been n I love talking Celtic with him, I Will be eternally grateful 4 him passing that love of Celtic onto me and I pass it onto my kids, always feel u can't overestimate what celtic means n the love I and many many many others have for our club.
Come on you boys in green.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've always tried my best to help people get to Celtic games. Wether it's trying to get them tickets or a tap on matchday when we ran the local bus, I (swear) hate season tickets sitting not getting used.}

28 Aug 2016 17:47:23
Cant stand seats sitting empty either Ed mate, any time I can't get along my mum n dad would go. 2 empty seats beside me yesterday, which were my sister's but she was late renewing them n when I phoned up was told they'd released her seats n they were gone.
Just find it strange that if someone had them they'd miss us beating the sheep, our biggest league games of this season as they are our nearest rivals. (I understand people might not make every game etc but most folk know somebody that would take a ticket)

Jason Cummings from hibs, anyone know of any interest from us in him? Obviously very highly rated and has scored bags of goals and even a handful against the zombies and as he's just turned 21 could certainly be very useful and wouldn't cost much. Any info on him ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No, he's more than happy to stat at Hibs.}

27 Aug 2016 18:28:37
Had the Allen transfer from Hibs been a a success, then I might have agreed - as training/ playing with Griffiths may have brought the potential through and he would have great service playing at Celtic. However, we have had our fingers burnt, with lower division players (including Tony Watt) and even guys from other SPL clubs are finding it tough to establish themselves and meet the demands at Celtic.

27 Aug 2016 17:27:56
It's hard on Roberts as his performances in the run-in last season were one of the few highlights after some disappointments in domestic cups and Europe - especially when Forrest said he was for the off. However, he has to impress the new manager and bide his time.
PR is a special talent and we need all the good players we can get with the demands and challenges ahead and BR will know this.

Bitton has done very little since he got his new contract and if anything, has proved that the team don't miss him when he's out.
He get's caught in possession, passes can be lazy/ slack and is too soft in the tackle - apart from that, he's champion.

27 Aug 2016 18:58:52
I thought biton would leave this summer think he really slows play down

Good comment from Mourinho.
The former Chelsea boss had a dig back at Karl-Heinz Rummenigge following the Bayern Munich chairman's criticism of how he has handled the former Germany midfielder.

After reports emerged of the ex-Bayern man and World Cup winner being made to train with United's reserves by Mourinho, Rummenigge was quoted earlier this month as saying he could "hardly believe'' such treatment, labelling it "a lack of respect for a worthy player''.

Mourinho hit back, saying: "I thought after I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich that they would run to Manchester to bring him (Schweinsteiger) back, but no, that did not happen.

"I am quite surprised that Mr Rummenigge is not here now to take him back. ''.

Was checking tickets for man city at the etihad n tthey are charging fans on cup ticket scheme just 75 for 3 match package n sth not on it £80 i will still pay the 99 for our 3 games but surely uefa should have a policy where all prices are set by them so that all fans pay the same.

27 Aug 2016 10:51:28
I like the idea of griff and Sinclair and rogic and Roberts up top

But not so sure we'll go with Roberts today. It's a big game to come back in to and start

I think he'll go with Forrest

I also think MacGregor could be in for biton as I simply do not like brown and biton in same team because one falls over the other ( mainly biton crowding out brown ) . MacGregor doesn't do this.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 11:04:45
Mcgregor is not the answer. He was awful on Tuesday.

If Roberts is fit give him a run instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 11:50:16
I know McGregor has his faults, but I would always play him with Brown instead of Bitton (until we get someone better) .
Brown loses so much impact when he plays with Bitton and I would have rather we sold him instead of Johansen, but there you go.
Brown, McGregor and Rogic combine better and allow the team to play slicker, energetic football - in my opinion.
If we follow-up on McCarthy to replace Johansen, all the better.

Top class post 11 in 67

Perfectly articulated and very logical

That's not to say I don't like Nir but for me he plays like one of those new age midfielders who does t head the ball or tackle aggressively or run with the ball or make long ranging variable passes. He sits and goes across and back and doesn't put in the hard yards. Clocking up 10km in a game is easy when not making tackles or lung busting runs to match on coming danger

he isn't a bad player but I find him ineffective and CFC needs more to compete

MacGregor for me isn't much better but he let's brown breathe and gets space between himself and brown and does present a danger going forward.

Ed do you know the money involving SJ to Fulham?

Also Jackson Irvine mate three goals in three games spoke about this at the time and only two months into Ross County in a season past where we struggled @ CB and CH we gave away him vastly looking a stupid move IMO (y)

{Ed007's Note - I heard it was £3 million rising to £5 million if Fulham get promoted to the EPL.}

He didn't want to stay. He had a very poor season and a good one before that and a contract expiring. Tony et what we allegedly got is a great bit of business

I had high hopes for SJ but there'll be others I'm sure.

I think we have made a mistake getting rid of Jackson Irvine! He is developing into a great box to box midfielder. He's tall strong and scores goals! Looks a steel for Burton, best player on the park against Derby last night!

Some players just find a club where it all goes well for him.

Let's not get carried away as he wasn't exactly great at Ross County. Might get a bigger championship club in the future but he won't be EPL standard any time soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 09:33:23
hey Stubhoy

heres my 2p worth

Okay - goalie - I think we have the best we have. CG ain't awful - but aging and we seem to have good backup with Fasan/ Bailey and the new dude - so not a priority - 1 year rolling contract means BR need success now - but if we assume he's here for a while, he will be assessing the younger GK for the future - or planning to buy in a decent 25 yo keeper for long term.

Central Defence - plan seems to be for long term Jozo/ Derek and Erik - with Kolo in the short term, Efe doesn't have a future in CD- ill get back to him later. With some good young kids steeping up and long term looking at better than we have. Chances are we will be selling Erik next summer for £10m to Southampton.

Midfield - even with SJ gone we have all we need - again long term need to buy/ develop better than we have.

Wings - okay there in fact quite good when they are firing. Good chance Roberts/ Sinclair/ Forest won't start MC/ Barca games even as we will need to keep it at 0-0 and maybe try to sneak one with them late in the game. But we need to win the league and those guys can do that for us with service to the strikers. I could score 40 a year in the spl with the service celtic strikers SHOULD be getting

So where we need to strengthen

Striker - we need someone who can do 2 jobs 1) hold the line when we need to play defensive. Play upfront on his own and run for 60 minutes hassling and haring the defence and goalies. 2) Bang them in for fun. To buy someone like this would cost £30m so we need someone young on loan or unproven.

LB/ RB - we haven't had decent cover at LB for years - even before Lennon - all we had was Izzy and he was enough. Now we have Izzy and Tierney. RB Lustig - Janko - and wait for it Efe! He won the ACN in that position! We are playing him out of position and then when the cocks up we say he's rubbish! Again that's not the answer so we need a decent LB and a decent RB - ones who can actually defend and with a burst of speed and can actually beat a player when required. These will cost £3-5M each and we need them NOW - we needed them 5 years ago. we sold AM to sunderland when we had nothing.

So buy in indemand RB first and then LB - get Janko out on loan to learn his craft - spend around £10m and keep £20m back.

Concentrate on winning the league and qualifying for CL next season and we will have £50m in the bank to buy good next season.

Use the loan system to get quality strikers and LB/ RBs in - if we are lucky we could get the use of another Roberts or Danyer type players this season - and build for the future.

Forget the CL this year - concentrate on the German double header and get 4 points to get Europa L spot. even rest players to Barca/ MC games so we can be bang on for league games before and after these games - they are far more important - we simply need to win the league so we can get another £30m next year. In Scotland we will never get massive tv deals so this is our only chance to ever be competitive in the future - imagine we had qualified for as many CL group stages as Arsenal - 13/ 14 TIMES £30m a year. then we can afford decent quality.

Looking forward to Aberdeen game today, will be tough, especially with our exertions, heat fatigue and long travel midweek, but we can put down a marker today. Beat Aberdeen we go 4 points clear of them 5 ahead of Hearts, 1 ahead of the Govan mob with game in hand and when we gub them in two weeks time open up another 4 point gap.
We usually struggle after european games, so win today and we can give ourselves a nice wee cushion going into our difficult CL matches.

It wouldn't surprise me if Hal Robson Kanu signs in the next few days. Find it really strange that he has waited all summer to make a decision. Maybe he made a decision weeks ago? If Celtic reach the champions league I'll join them for a crack at that rather than an EPL relegation scrap. Would be a good option to have up front or on the wings. Hard worker too which suits Rodgers style.

Doing my Skinnybhoy impression this morning.
Way out of left field, Joe Hart to Celtic. We have good relatinship with Man City, Hart needs regular games and we can offer CL now.
Wages? no problem City willing to pay half his wages.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

27 Aug 2016 09:48:52
Tim I always considered Hart to be overrated. To be fair though, he has went off the boil massively from the keeper he was a few seasons back. Although it gives me great joy to see any England player underperforming, I still couldn't understand why Big Fraser wasn't given more game time. I rate him above Hart, always have. Isn't Guardiola getting shot of him because he isn't good with the ball at his feet? Is that one of the reasons Rodger's gave for bringing in de Vries?

On another note. I haven't had the opportunity to read these pages for a while until recently, for one reason or another. Aee the betting tip pages not updated anymore mate? Doesn't seem to have been for a while? Might go back over there again to see if anyone can land me a few quid lol!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2016 10:14:57
Jeremy it depends if ED023 is around on the betting pages, also more likely when there is decent racing, as for the football I still put my tuppence worth on there, as you know I go big on the Spanish bets of penalties in Real and Barcelona games, and MISSED ones also, had a few nice touches last year with that.
Just for you, no earth shattering but in early kick off I fancy BTTS at 4/ 6 and over 2.5 goals at roughly evens. Spurs v Liverpool.

27 Aug 2016 10:24:40

Don't know about value, wages etc if he's well out of our means but trippier of Tottenham would be a great signing at rb, don't think he gets much game time due to kyle Walker. Also rangel from Swansea but think he's at the wrong end of his career now, rb got to be a priority, if only we could find another Jackie mac that could play both right and left fb equally competent.

Not sure about the right back situation. Still think Lustig is a good player and could be key in the CL when we may be camped in our own half for long spells against city and barca. Domestically janko will do against most teams, while playing a 3 5 2 would mean that roberts or forrest play there and we won't need a right back anyway. If we only sign one player it'll be a centre mid. Rodgers aims to have as much of the ball as possible so the other night will have been a real worry to him as our midfield was non existent.

Champions league group stage ya beauty shame rd couldnae get us there but that's fotball n tbh br am starting to buy into his ways the football at times is incredible when we are able to play his way for 90 mins in spfl i can see a few teams takin a skelpin talkin of skelpins i see us givin the buns a good wan i think it could be better than the 6-2 scoreline the govan deceased received a few years back.
