Is it just me but is Americans the only people who make supporting a football team cringeworthy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well my mums side of family is American. Does the same go for my family supporting celtic? Nothing wrong with being passionate cheering on team.

Agree0 Disagree0

What s wrong wi enjoying yourself watching your country?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the scenes in Chicago, etc are refreshing for world football. One my older cousins was at USA 94 and there was Americans who didn't even know the "soccer" World Cup was on in their own cities, let alone country - 20 yrs later there's tens of thousands watching Brazil 2014 on big screens in special fanzones!

Just the songs and they way they chant them did I say anything about them supporting a club

Agree0 Disagree0

Its the imbecilic chanting 'USA, USA' that does it for me: Reaganite sloganeering at its most cringeworthy. Similar scenes - in fact, indistinguishable scenes - were seen after the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. I recommend the marvellous poem by Harold Pinter, 'American Football' which would likely not publish the text of, but which is easily google-able.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats the difference between american's chanting usa usa and scottish fans chanting scotland scotland? nothing wrong with supporting your country

Agree0 Disagree0

Is the USA not a Federation of about 50 Countries or States? If everyone adopted their way the World Cup would last only a week . Europe Asia Africa etc .

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman, I think your getting your continents mixed with your countries

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely jbhoy USA is made up of about 50 states or Countries, some bigger than France . Isn't Cameron the only leader in Europe fighting against the United States of Europe based on the USA .
I think it is FIFA greed to have the USA aboard even though it is made up of 50 states and a population approx. 100 times any other Western State . I cannot understand why any Scottish person agrees with an USA team, yet demands a Scottish team and not an United Kingdom team .

Agree0 Disagree0

@yourman So what if USA is made up 50 states? End of the day these states made up 1 recognised country. Scotland is a recognised country, as is england, wales and northern ireland. Each of these countries have right to their own national team .

So what if population of USA is a great level higher? That doesn't mean they have the advantage. Holland is a lot smaller and a far better national team.

Pointless uneducated rant with no reasonable argument yourman

Agree0 Disagree0

The USA is the United States of America just like we are likely to have in Europe
Will we then field one European team . If the United States of America field one team, why doesn't the United Kingdom not field one team as well.
Its one team in the Olympics but for some reason Scotland didn't want their best players considered .

Agree0 Disagree0

DN 30 pointless uneducated rants would sum up most of your contributions DN but I wouldn't like to hurt your feelings by posting so.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman, the USA is one country made up of states. If you want to bring europe into the equation, each county (eg scotland lanarkshire, stirlingshire, etc) is a similar idea to the states. What next? Lanarkshire represented at international level?

Agree0 Disagree0

DN 30 are you deliberately trying to be stupid . The states / Countries compiling of the 50 or so making up the USA all have their own National Party . They also elect their leader the President every four years . In your UK the different countries/states have their own devolved Government but have an old German woman leader taking their wealth for decades . However DN if you happy enough for 50 country USA to play in the WC and have wee Scotland sitting at home hoping England gets beat, that's find with me .

America is made up of 50 countries? There's something you don't learn at school

Agree0 Disagree0

Lexlau. The name state or Country can be used to describe the various different areas under national control.

For those who are happy with the fifty states /countries of America playing as one team would therefore be happy with the UK fielding one team . To argue for Scotland to be allowed to complete and the USA to field one team seems strange to me

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman end of the day they all play in the one league set up. Scotland, england, northern ireland are all different leagues governed by different FA's.

I honestly can't see what the issue is.

Agree0 Disagree0

USA is a federal republic - just like Germany, Brazil, Nigeria, Somalia, etc. That means that power is divided by the national (or federal) government and the government of the individual subdivisions (states). I'm struggling to see where USA and Europe are drawing comparison Yourman?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a new one- a state can be described as a country! Pmsl and your the one saying i'm stupid?

Agree0 Disagree0

Buy yourself a dictionary Dn30 . Surprising what you can find out .

Is there anything on us making a move for
Snodgrass? I for one would make him our top
Target and I think he would jump at the chance
To come

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Looks like Hull have agreed a fee of over 6m. No way we'd pay that kind of money.

Well if Forster is going to go the fact that he has played Brazil will raise his profile and hopefully his price! Thankfully VVD wasn't in the Dutch squad as I want him to stay for another season. Let's hope RD & JC have been busy and wrap up business quick - but won't be holding my breath!

Sorry mate by ff hasn't played in the wc it's was Ben foster

Agree0 Disagree0

He didn't play in Brazil, and hardly kicked a ball in the warm-up games either for that matter.

Ben Foster played 90 mins in the warm-up against Ecuador, Joe Hart played 75 mins v Honduras w/ Fraser Forster coming off the bench for the last 15 mins.

At the World Cup, Joe Hart played against Italy n Uruguay then Ben Foster played against Costa Rica.

I doubt 15 mins at the end of a friendly v Honduras will do anything for his pricetag?!

Out of the 23 man squad the big man was the only 1 that woy didn't play. Was he trying to tell him something?

Agree0 Disagree0

TTTS, I can already see the Great Wall appearing in a "worst English players to be called up but not capped at a major tournament" list in the next year or so. A joke that he didn't receive at least 45 mins!

I was thinking about this the yesterday actually, how will FF not playing at the World Cup affect his return to Celtic? Will he still have an extended pre-season, or d'you think he'll come back in as of the next week or so?

Obviously guys like Izaguirre + Ambrose who have played in Brazil will be missing for the CL qualifiers.

Several thoughts on this HB, Woy has already said that he needs to play in Pl so by not playing him he was telling him to move, also the case if he hasn't a WC cap he would be that bit cheaper for one of his pals in the Pl to buy. Couple of fish suppers and a tins of john smiths for him. funny old game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough scottish game is pi$h, but for Forster to have played 31 games in europe with 11 clean sheets for celtic, has got to surely be worth something.

Of course it means something, but those pompous bassas down south will belittle it.
£30m for Luke Shaw btw, wtf is that all about?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not the first English, Celtic player to be snubbed and disrespected, but to be the only squad member not to get any game time at all was very cruel.
Hodgeson (who seems to be their equivalent of Walter of Cardigan and is immune from any criticism) could have given him a few minutes in that farcical kick-about V's Costa Rica.
Forster will probably feel he needs to move to impress - the same as Hooper did - and that rarely works.
He will be in a negative frame of mind after his teams disaster and might well stay at a club who appreciate him? We will have to wait and see.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think we should be aiming for £8-10m for Forster, as DN said, his European record is excellent considering he's been playing in the Group Stages for a Pot 4 club two seasons in a row!

We've also got to take into consideration that Hearts, YES HEARTS, managed to grind out £9m for Craig Gordon in 2007 - based on inflation that's around £11m now?!

Agree0 Disagree0

It really doesn't matter what we aim for regards Forster . If he insists he wants to leave, even though he has a couple of years left on contract, we will have to take what we are offered . Imagine £30m for that child Shaw and £5 m for Forster, that's the world we are in .

Agree0 Disagree0

If the big man does decide a move is for him then we go for best price with add ons for re-sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would have been a joke to bring forster on as a sub against Costa Rica, it's still a World Cup game, not a friendly, Costa Rica were also playing to finish top of the group

Seems eerily quiet on the transfer front even on transfer rumours, can see this being a quiet window. About 15 million income from champions league last year sales of wanyama, hooper and Wilson, think we had a good earner last year so were is the re-investment in the playing squad?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's quiet because Deila needs to assess his squad. They were only back at training on Tuesday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Deila wants to run the rule over the current playing squad before going into the transfer market, I think that applies for inbound and outbound sales. The players only arrived back at training on Monday morning, give the man a chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Usually at this time of the year we have been linked with every player in Europe, think ronny and especially his assistant would have an idea of the squad and what positions need cover an what positions need better players in before the team even got back to training. I personally think we will be underwhelmed with the signings again this window, will be same old story as last few years wait to see if we qualify for champions league if we do rush about last minute and miss top targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps he wants to see who applies themselves in training. Remember we don't see what goes on in Lennoxtown, other than the odd photo that Celtic want us to see. As I've said previously, we should be more than capable of beating KR even without our World Cup stars.

I'd imagine the squad could look like:

Zaluska; Lustig, van Dijk, Mulgrew, Chalmers; Brown, Johansen, Boerrigter; Stokes, Commons; Griffiths?

Agree0 Disagree0

Without seeing what is going on in Lennoxtown and Austria next week it would be hard to read Ronnie's mind . We may get a clearer picture after three or four pre - season games . Let's hope he gets the right mixture as Ronnie is as always only getting the one chance to make a first impression .
