The draw for the next round of the Ramsdens Cup will be held in the Ramsdens shop in Clydebank shopping Centre. Hilarious! I wonder if all sevconians will be glued to their telly. green jhedi

A. Brill! How apt that they're in the Ramsdens cup when they are not going to have any silver to trade in for a ME LUV U(LOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNGGGGG) time. At risk of repeating myself. A!

I hear its going to be like the champions league draw where invited club representatives attend and are introduced to Michel Platin. Ally Mccoist was invited along with wattie smith they were told michel was going but neither of them were clever enough to see the spelling was Michelle. Michelle McManus who is making the draw out a couple of gold fish bowls.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not on tv gj although it is being sent out via the stores CCTV security system in the back office! Heard ally's attending to see how much he can get for the spare headrest covers they won't be needin for the Watp bus! L1888

Fair well mr hooper and thanks for the impeccable service over the last few years it was drawn out but there shouldn't be a fan saying a bad word about the guy hopefully we can get some one in to replace him before the next tie and hopefully it's some one who will excite us us much as Garry did

SOS BHOY

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. My very best wishes to the young man, a fine example of professionalism.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ver best wishes to Gary Hoper. We all have to remember that this young man was not brought up as a Celtic Supporter and he has served us very well for three years, at the end of which we doubled our money on our initial outlay (which was not insignificant btw). Also, he was quiet and never gave us one bit of trouble. ALL THE BEST Hoops and I hope you realise your ambitions.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has ruled out a big-money replacement for Gary Hooper as he vowed not to upset the club's wage structure.

The re-sale value is only one consideration when Celtic enter the transfer market as Lennon does not want to bring in a player on much higher wages than those who got the club to the last 16 of the Champions League last season.

Lennon, who has brought in Virgil van Dijk, Amido Balde and free agent Steven Mouyokolo for a total of about £5million, said: "We're looking and looking, it's not as easy as everyone thinks.

'Yes, we have brought in a lot of money but we have to safeguard the future of the club as well.

'We have to be mindful of that when we go into negotiations with players. Some of the prices are too much, some of the wages are too much and sometimes players are happy where they are.

'We are trying to push the button on one or two players. We have already brought three in but obviously attacking areas are a priority.'

'I don't think we are going to spend six or seven million pounds on a player - I'm not going to break a spirit and wage structure here because once you start doing that, I'll be getting a lot of knocks on the door'

'If we can consistently get Champions League football over the next four or five years, that outlook might change, but the days of competing with Premier League clubs for fees and wages are not here at the minute anyway'

I think the Club are in a bit of a catch 22, if they don't spend the cash there's a real possibility of not reaching the group stages of the CL but then they could splash out and still not make the group stages and be left with a huge wage bill and no CL income.

They are obviously looking for a striker who can guarantee the Club similar goals to Hooper but not break the bank, for me though they have had over a year to do this as Hooper has made his intentions clear since last summer.

I don't envy the situation Neil Lennon finds himself in ~ Mrs E

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can understand Lenny saying this and I agree with him to an extent. As you say Mrs E the disappointing aspect for me is the time scale. We all knew Hooper was going but wait till now to get a replacement. That is pretty poor unless Hoops has played Lenny.

I would think our selling point would be the example of Victor and Hoops.Find an ambitious player, give him a platform and move him on if he is successful. Easier said than done though. This does not fill me with confidence for next week if i'm honest. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Least he's being honest. The point is hooper had his head turned in January however I believe some homework should have been done to find his replacement, in that the name Kevin Doyle doesn't go away.

We're not daft enough to throw money at players as a good example of this in the route rangers went down. For me rogic could be a good example in a season or 2. Buy them young then punt them. Hooper & Wanyama too, just need CL though. Which in turn needs players that cost a bit extra. Gamble however paying a player 25k to pay in the spl is a bit ott.

I still believe as long as we get through the next tie then the money fund might get released a little.

Lenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Why can't we have one or two "premium" players on big bucks. That's life in many other workplaces.
NL toeing the party line and not acceptable. We have backed the club as usual and being fobbed off, if we can't shell out now when raking in £40m in CL cash and transfers then we might as well accept we never will. Big concern also is how many fans accepting it.
The Ed said over a yr ago hooper wouldn't stay, why we have no contingency. All scratching around last minute in bargain bucket. Poor, stevo dundee

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't agree with you Stevo, one bit! I've worked alongside guys who are on more money, in the long run, it causes resentment amongst colleagues. Celtic are right in having a wage structure. OK all players are not at the highest end of the wage bracket, but having a cap means there is no player doing the same job as another but on a ludicrously higher wage than the other. Talent should be rewarded so that's where the bonus system kicks in. This promotes the competition in positions. If a player earning the same as his counterpart scores more goals that's where he makes his money. I know it is complicated because of team selection, but show hard work and willing on the training pitch and you should be picked for the first team. It also roots out the lazy sods turning out just for the salary.

BigRab

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Rab, really. Vic was on £4k whilst Joe and Broonie £20k plus.
hows that for not having a big wage gap when suits?
So its not worth pushing the boat out for a player who will net 30+?
Goals win games, win trophies, bring in the euro £
Stevo Dundee {Ed007's Note - I agree with you Stevo, to an extent. I wouldn't have put Wanyama straight up to the £20k bracket but at least offer him somewhere in the £12k-£15k a week. That is a hefty pay-rise IMO. Then supposing he has another immense season and teams started sniffing about, ask him to renew on £15k-18k. It means the player is being rewarded, the longer he stays and performs the more money he gets and his reputation rises too.
In 2/3 years he would be a better player (hopefully), at the top of our wage bracket and we could have sold him possibly for even more money than we did. Anyway it is all hearsay now but I still think we should raise the wage barrier, especially with our income and then look at the money that was wasted on Miku, Lassad and Gershon. Remember how upset people got because I was fuming about the Miku and Lassad deals :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair, I think if lassad got a season or 2 with us he would have turned into a decent player. Releasing him was a bit mad I thought. He showed potential. The other 2 yeah I agree was a total waste of money.

The Green Brigade find ourselves disappointed to hear that Celtic Football Club has deemed it necessary to release a statement which we feel unfairly demonises our group as well as the Celtic supporters who sit in our section in 111. Following amicable discussions held behind closed doors it seems entirely counter-productive for such a statement to be released.

The group held discussions on Wednesday night with representatives of the club and outlined our position regarding the safety concerns that have been raised in Celtic’s statement. It was made clear that the Green Brigade were not responsible for any pyrotechnics which were used during the match against Cliftonville at Celtic Park and had no knowledge of any fan’s intention to use them. We accept that it took place in our section however and as a group we will strive to deal with the matter and have warned fans on our website against such behaviour in 111. We also demonstrated our willingness to work with the club regarding the mosh pits and crowd surfing which is concerning the safety team. It is however worth noting that the claim made regarding 131 broken seats is an exaggeration. Several of our members visited the empty section on Wednesday night following the meeting, and whilst it was evident that there was accidental damage, 131 broken seats appeared to be an embellishment. While this damage is regrettable it is totally accidental and simply a product of our sometimes boisterous style of support – intentional damage would not only be idiotic but it would not be tolerated.

A key safety concern mentioned was that of overcrowding. The group has worked with the club previously on this issue and urges those who do not have tickets for our section to stay away. We do our best to self-police the area in this regard however that has proven increasingly difficult, as Celtic this season had refused to allow us to control who has tickets for our block. If we do not know who has tickets for the area, and given that the stewards have proven their incompetence in this matter, it is extremely unfair to lay sole responsibility for this matter at the feet of the group. We have repeatedly requested that we have a regular stewarding team with whom we can build up a working relationship with in the hope that this will help with the issues raised.

Whilst the representatives of our group were willing to discuss the concerns that the club had, the club were extremely hesitant to discuss some of our concerns regarding the continual harassment of Celtic supporters. The Green Brigade have demonstrated a willingness to work with the club which is why we find it regrettable that the club have chosen to publicly castigate our section, and by doing so have invited the media to attack the Celtic support once more. At a time when Celtic supporters are being routinely harassed, intimidated and dragged through the courts we feel that this should hold greater priority than concerns over lateral movement.

It appears that Celtic Football Club are far more eager to publicly attack Celtic fans than they are to defend them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The gb need to act to the rules and not put a bad light on Celtic and our worldwide knowgde of great fans and great club. Gb are a great addition to Celtic and dose make us standout more but need to food rules and not get out of hand, for it would be of no matter if they go cause it is Celtic fc that we are and want to stay! Leave the negative stuff to lesser clubs and stop with all the hard done by our own club. The board is keeping the tradition of Celtic alive, smoke bombs and wild behavior is not us and ruins the game! we are a classy club and one that others should follow to see how a club should be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aw dear, what a shower of cry babies!

If the Club did not make the statement, how is the other 20/30 odd thousand at the game supposed to know the Club had addressed the situation?

Defend them, what defence does a fan(s) have for contravening UEFA's safety's regulations in a UEFA competition? ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

To The GB poster. I 100% appreciate the noise and atmosphere you bring to match days, great craic, inventive and usually funny but also believe you are getting a bit above yourselves going by this post. Asking for your own special stewards? Referring to 111 as your block? Really? It's not your's, It's Celtic's stadium and they allow you to party there, however, like a drunk mate at a party, its fun to watch for a while, but when he starts taking the piss, getting above himself and embarrassing you, it's time to have a strong word. Celtic have always had a good reputation, great atmosphere and loyal fan base, long before and long after the GB. The club are completely right in issuing a statement about this given the media attention and bad publicity it has generated, not so sure you have the same right to then attack the club for trying to project a profession reaction to what could cause us serious trouble with UEFA. Fraserbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

There's 2 sides to every story but the gullable will believe everything that the celtic board & manager say, the GB have every right to let people know there version of events, I don't agree for a minute with everything that goes on in section 111 or some of the GB antics ie: flares, fireworks, moshing but there are fans from other sections entering 111 while the inept stewards stand about with there eyes fixed straight on the GB to see who they can either harass or have thrown out, without the GB celtic park would be a morgue but with there flares and fireworks all they are doing is bringing the club down and giving the pro sevco scottish gutter press all the ammo they need to print more negative fabricated exclusives as they call them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some silly statements from the op. The club had no choice but to make a statement. They have to be seen to be doing something. The green brigade are fans and do not have to be consulted on everything the club says or do. As for the broken seats you have to take responsibility accidental or not you are at a football game not a riot.

Ian

Agree0 Disagree0

While I agree with the GB's assertion that Celtic do not seem to back us up on a lot of things this statement worries me. I posted the other day that there was a school of thought that these guys seemed to think they were more important than they actually are.

To want to control 'their' section I find slightly disturbing. The fact that Celtic are prepared to actually let them contribute to discussion is more than fair to my mind.If this mindset continues it will lead to a split in our support, something we really don't need. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

@6), I agree. Disturbing that 'they' think they own 'their section'.

The GB doesn't own a section. The fans in sect111 can quite easily be given dispersed tickets to all over the stadium.

Numerous Broken seats is vandalism not accidental. So that's lies. They are also very dangerous as is moshing and body surfing.

Agree0 Disagree0

@7 section 111 was giving to the gb. They can be clowns sometimes but they're the pulse of celtic park okay the Irish patriotic stuff is quite annoying I'm scottish Irish but I am more proud to be scottish than having Irish heritage I hate the fact the gb moan at people who fly scottish flags Scotland is one of the most respected countries throughout the world proud Scotsman I think if we get independence then a lot more scottish flags will fly it's annoying people from around the world think we are a team from Ireland IMO.

26 Jul 2013 15:38:00

Really grates on me to write this post but I know some fans last season had nothing better to do other than count seats and now it seems this season has not started yet and they are hell bent on making stuff up, sick stuff at that, about the behaviour of fans of other Clubs.

Maybe if they paid this much attention to their own Club, it would not have collapsed in a heap of debt and embarrassment.

I do not think for one minute all Celtic fans are all saints, they most definitely are not but what was made up at the weekend is disgusting and by supporters who actually had a cheek to wave a banner welcoming the new Prince. All the Rangers fans who were so proud of the way they behaved at Sheffield (although why you think this should be front page news says it all) are you equally proud of the element of your supporters who attempted to drag a Soldier’s name through the mud ?

The Police in Brentford have had to issue a statement to a local newspaper and I would bet my last quid they have better things to do: -

SENIOR police officer has defended the response to problems posed by drunken Celtic fans at the recent match with Brentford.

Sally Benatar, chief inspector of operations for Hounslow Police, said no-one was in any danger despite a mass pitch invasion at the final whistle in which officers were seen to stand by and do nothing.

This comes despite bag searches failing to reveal several smoke bombs which were set off during the game and the possibility of other weapons being missed as well.

She said: At the end of the match approximately 400 Celtic supporters entered the playing area. At no time were players, officials or club staff placed at risk. The number of supporters moving forward does not allow stewards and police to forcibly return supporters to the stands in a safe way. On Saturday, the co-ordinated response was to ensure the two sets of supporters were kept apart and then encouraged to return to their stands safely.

She added CCTV will be used by the club and police to identify invaders.

One of the most distateful of allegations circulating post match was a number of Brentford supporters who contacted the Chronicle to claim they witnessed Celtic fans singing songs glorifying the IRA and the recent death of soldier Lee Rigby who was attacked outside barracks in Woolwich back in May.

One man claimed to have been sickened by the songs his family had heard and said it was wrong for anyone to get away with it.

These were given greater depth when people claiming to be Celtic fans wrote messages on Brentford forums saying they too had witnessed the incidents and were ashamed of their fellow supporters' behaviour.

The Chronicle asked the police whether any complaints had been made regarding these allegations and if an investigation was taking place. A spokesman confirmed no allegations of any offensive songs or chanting had been received and added if anyone knew of any specific incidents they should report them to police immediately.

If you cannot just comment on fooball matters, can you please not call yourself a football fan ! ~ Mrs E

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So what about all your comments on business & finance? Are you all just fans of arithmetic a aswell as football! Rangers fans sung bigotry at Sheffield Wednesday, Celtic fans probably did the same at Brentford it's not so unlikely. However we have not been throwing any flares or bangers breaking seats or invading pitches which is poor behaviour no matter how you dress it up Mrs E. Many People seen the Lee Rigby Flag as a nice touch many see it as distasteful & totally out of context I do not know where I sit on this one probably against it there's no harm done but I think the poor guy should be left to rest in peace & his family to mourn without hearing & seeing his name everywhere they look in the public eye, the mainstream media are much to blame for this & believe it or not I am a Rangers fan who is very much anti-establishment. I hate the Royals they don't care for us in the slightest & epitomise the corruption on our planet. There a horrible bunch of people & it's actually a shame for the poor baby who knows not what it's in for but will no doubt grow up to be just like his Dad & Grandad. So the Baby banner was also Cringeworthy for me. I really do hope this counting seats caper & tit for tat behavioural banter stops now. Neither sets of fans are Angels but we all share the same passion for our Clubs so let's just forget about all the rest & enjoy them while we're not in the same league give each other a rest rather than all the propaganda, muckraking & Skullduggery.

Agree0 Disagree0

I haven't tried to dress it up anywhere about flares, broken chairs etc nor do I post and say well done Celtic fans on your good behaviour at the friendlies over in Germany etc. Good bhoys, pat on the back.

However, one look at Rangers forums and they do, why?

My point was, yes fans did invade the pitch at Brentford for whatever reason but some element of your support decided to make up awful lies.

'Business and finance' is not anywhere near this level of what was made up last weekend. RFC were accused of cheating so it did affect the rest of Scottish football no matter what the eventual outcome.

Its very ironic that Rangers fans went on about obsessions yet here we have this.

I cannot be bothered with the tit-for-tat either but there are some who genuinely could not tell you who the right back is in their team but can tell you the attendance and now this about who was better behaved at friendlies and are willing to stoop to any level to 'prove' their supporters are better!

I think some are needing to let the hate go but sadly I don't think they will or are capable of it.

Incidentally I am an arithmetic fan and think a calculator is very overrated ~ Mrs E

Afternoon all. A wee point on big Vic's move to Southampton. I noticed a lot of posters were very critical ie diddy team, relegation scrap etc and I take a different view on it. They are a good club with a good stadium/support and after watching a tv interview with their chief executive, he is a young, ambitious guy who talks a lot of sense. He reminded me a wee bit of PL, he obviously has a good business brain to be where he is and he spoke of his ambitions for the club quite passionately but he stated he wasnt willing to spend big money unjustifiably. IMO they are definitely a team on the up but they are willing to be patient and do it the right way by buying smart and building a team gradually rather than the Chelsea or Man City approach. I will watch with interest next season to see how Vic gets on and I hope it works out well for the big fella. Let's look to a bright future without him and Hoops and hopefully another CL adventure to produce some new heroes. Hail Hail

West Ham and West Brom have had £4m bids accepted, however, he's knocked back WH after being told he won't be played in his preferred position through the middle.

He managed to bag 14 goals in 28 games for Lille last season.

Wages could be a stumbling block though?

If it is true that we are getting 6 million for Hooper then I would give PL the benefit of the doubt for now. Sure, we are taking a bit of a gamble for Tuesday but we should have enough in the squad to cover that game and it is also very doubtful that anyone coming in yesterday would have bedded in early enough for that game anyway. Like others on here, I prefer having nothing this morning to having Doyle in or some other panic buy-particularly when we're more than a month from deadline day. PL has been playing the long game since he came in 10 years back, he's a shrewd dealer and no one can say we are in a worse position now than when he came in. I'd be more than happy to get through Tuesday with a clean sheet and have a quality striker in place for the away leg. If we do make the group stages again with a strengthened team in place, Lawell will be one of the hottest properties in British football. Daviebhoy77

Hi Ed do you think we will be after 2 strikers now with Hooper potentially off to Norwich or just the 1 as Lennon was wanting to beef up the attack when we still had Hooper there? Hope we don't settle for Doyle 13 goals in his last 2 seasons isn't a good enough replacement and he's 29 too rather someone younger like Austin who could still be sold after a few years for a profit.

No need to panic yet, still got another few days to find a Hooper replacement before the Elfsborg game. I would like us to sign a pacey poacher, a Javier Hernandez type. Any ideas? Saber Khelifa is certainly pacey but I don't think he would be prolific

I really fear the worst now that we don't have a 1st choice centre forward! From last 16 to out at the 2nd hurdle, if it happened and I hope to god I am wrong, Lawell should hang his head in shame, ( as long as he can look away from the bank balance sheet!)

If you are a true fan, don't see why you and others have a go at pl after the discounts and everything new the club is doing for the fans. Let's not forget that the club has backed nl more this season, when was th last time we spent 5 mill on two players in one season with another one on the way? We are not just buying cheap, and Sammy can fit in there to lead the line.

OK; but when was the last time we sold 2 major players for £18m before we qualified for the CL and before SPL KO?
We are still way short of sharpness and we have several injuries to key players. So it is a cause for concern when the squad is dismantled and all that is being boosted is the bank balance.
If we do not replace the quality we lose there will be huge gaps in Celtic Park - on the pitch and in the stands.
