With the news that the deal for the South African lad has fallen through I'm really hoping the club have a top alternative lined up. Our only real outlay at the minute has been ntcham, as izzy fee covered Hayes . Personally if you look at us now to the end of last season I would say we are weaker with injuries and loss of paddy. I would love us to sign paddy again, plus at least another 2/ 3 quality players on top. We must surely have money banked with euro qualifying two years on the spin, packed houses every week and new kits and training gear that is flying off the shelves. c'mon Celtic, back up Rodgers and let us really strengthen in a position of strength for once 🙏.

We always need a plan B. The PR saga; is exactly that, we need quality in defensive cover, one stand out creative Midfielder and quality striker to compete with Gifford and Dembele. We have the best Management Team for a long time and a Board that does seem to understand what we have want. whether or not they are quite as committed to paying the daft money wanted by Clubs Agents and the players themselves.
Still, it's right good to be a Tim in 2017.Hail Hail my Celtic Family.

So the deals offfor the boy Rivaldo, Ajax Cape Towns website stated we discovered a problem with a scan on his right foot. Ed do we have any one in mind for the CB position?

Just wondering what Collum is going to put in his report regarding the booking for McClean. He's seen it - hence the booking. But what the hell is he going to say the booking is for, other than a punch? That being the case, he surely cannot continue to referee Celtic games (or really any at all) for not giving a red. If this is sugar-coated then something really needs to be done about it.

26 Aug 2017 19:21:09
Just saw the video and even in MacLean was one of our players I would struggle to defend him.

Very clever refereeing as no retrospective action can be taken on the player but hard to see Collum coming out of this unscathed.

26 Aug 2017 19:21:38
If I see colum I'll closeline him but I'll just say I was trying to look at my watch🤔.

Was never a red card, McLean never throw a punch. he pulled his hand away from KT and he stumbled.

26 Aug 2017 23:46:08
Maclean was laughing and joking in his interview after the game. He said KT was fine with it telling him "I'm old enough to be yer Da wee man".

27 Aug 2017 07:41:28
Can still be cited for a violent act, which it was. I was up in the top tier of the North Stand and even I could see it. Collum is just a rubbish Referee, no sense common or otherwise and was his usual 4 out of 10 yesterday. A pompous wee Diddy.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 09:44:30
So Briggs, what was the yellow card for? Surely not pulling his arm away, as you say.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 10:46:20
Agree, initially I thought it was a red frok. the angle it shown you on Celtic TV but there's a close up angle of it kicking about on Twitter and it does look like he just pulls his arm away to turn around.

I'm sorry but I don't buy BR's defence of the goal we gave away. He says that's our way of play etc. but there's a time and a place for passing at the back and another for just getting rid of it. Goalkeeper position is becoming a worry.

I'm not even sure what Gordon was attempting. I have nightmares when he's trying to be fancy. He'd already taken on a man in his own box. Scary stuff!

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Aug 2017 18:30:01
Agree kev. passing the ball out from the back has become more and more common in modern day football, but the chances Gordon takes in practically every game are just staggering to watch some times! Playing one twos in your box with your defenders just shouldn't happen! He's got it into his head that he's somehow become great with the ball at his feel, today proved yet again that he ain't! But I'm afraid we're stuck with him for at least this season!

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Aug 2017 20:18:26
Lh86 I feel sorry for him sometimes because BR has instructed him to play the short pass but there has to be a level of common sense from the player himself. One-Two, One-Two with Ralston who's just new into the team and then some mis-cued outside of the boot nonsense. Punt it, clear the danger and then try to pass it next time!

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Aug 2017 20:48:45
This is nothing new from Gordon. Anything other than reaction saves, he's very questionable. It's also the fact that he can't instill much confidence in his outfield defenders.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Aug 2017 23:53:18
A goalkeeper should be 1 of our main targets! We sold big Fraser for 10 million and brought in Gordon for zilch! He is a good shot stopper and that's it. Cross balls, Distribution and always beat at his near post is there for all to see over the last few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 09:54:35
I don't agree. I think the saves he makes are often overlooked and people are desperate to highlight any mistakes. Some are saying that he doesn't instill confidence in the defence, but I think it also has to be considered that constant changes to the defence - through no-one's fault - can have an impact on the goalkeeper, whoever that might be.
It also cannot be denied that he has been told to play the ball out by Rodgers - it is inevitable that it is sometimes going to go wrong, and yes, perhaps sometimes it would be better to smash it away, but the instruction is no secret whatsoever.
The criticism is way over the top in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 17:51:15
Watch how many he loses this season at his near post it's a glaring fault in his game.

26 Aug 2017 17:42:14
For all the centre halfs Celtic have I rate none of them. Neither Erik, Jozo or Boyata. There isn't one of them who can put his head on the ball when whipped into the box. Why can Scotland no longer produce a Billy McNeil, McLeish, Gough or find a Paul Elliot, Alan Stubbs or Mick McCarthy. Somebody that can come and attack the ball and clear his lines as those named could. Paul Eliot was the besf centre half I've seen at Celtic Park. Miller and McLeish were a fantastic defensive partnership. I remember waiting to see if Gough ran out for Rangers because when he played they played. So what's wrong now? Why do we appear to be unable to feckn knit ourselves a decent centre half? ☘️.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

26 Aug 2017 18:06:13
To be fair to boyata he scored about 5 headers last season and is by far our best player when attacking a ball.

26 Aug 2017 19:20:09
I agree with you about the centre halfs. I think we need 2 solid centre halfs if we have any ambition for Europe. I would also try for a new goalkeeper someone like Danny Ward from Liverpool. And finalise a deal for Roberts if we can but I would prioritise the centre halfs.

26 Aug 2017 19:23:55

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Aug 2017 21:29:26
I think we're jumping a bit here with the whole centre half thing. Have Boyata and Jozo even played a competetive game together this season? They're the two that seen off an unbeaten, treble winning season. I'd be happy enough seeing the pair of them, fully fit, playing together in Europe (they're definitely good enough for the league) . And they deserve it. Boyata seems to get a bit of stick. The "bomb-scare". He's immense in the air. Physically, is there. On the ball, he's no maraurder, but is good enough for me. I just think he needs to be playing to gain the experience that is required at his age to fine tune his game. Jozo is still young, should be pardoned for any errors and is a great prospect.

Whilst the result today was a poor one I'm not too down about it. We don't become a poor team overnight but i don't think we have progressed as much as we had hoped. Injuries and players off form added to probably one of the worst transfer windows so far has seen the team stagnate. We all know where we need to improve so let's get the players in and get on with it.

If we are going to progress further in the CL we need a new keeper! Gordon is howling, his distribution is non existing! We're not going to get a keeper before the window shuts but Rodgers knew when he came in he'd have to replace him but dvries wasn't any better.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

26 Aug 2017 17:16:15
Still unbeaten, Craig Gordon, very poor, I wish he would stop that knocking the ball out to the line only 5 yards past the 18 yard box, Hayes did hid best when he came on but not sure that he is up to it, the whole defense looks out of sync without a CB, and sinky had a few good touches but still looks off the pace, I suppose we had a hard week, lot of travel, so all ok.
I watched the PSG game last night, they are quick and accurate, we are going to be like supermen to get anything from them. The St Eithenne MoM was Saidy Janko, he gave away a peno, but kept neymehar and cavani well under pressure.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

26 Aug 2017 16:27:16
I think the squad definitely needs to be added to. A new centre half a new striker and a new goalkeeper. Gordon seems to be making more mistakes.

Morning Ed, is there any further update with Roberts? I heard that we are still trying to get him permanently and that is what the delay is, have you heard anything similar? I would love Paddy to walk out at HT today and sign the contract in the centre circle, imagine the atmosphere if nobody knew he was there and he just appeared?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I don't know what's going on mate but it seems to be dragging out for no apparent reason other than a permanent deal is being worked on by someone. Perhaps City are holding out to see if any permanent offers come in before the window closes. City's preference is still to sell the player or for him to go out on loan to Southampton or a team on the continent which Roberts doesn't want to do. He either wants to be a City player or a Celtic player for this coming season.
In a meeting with Roberts and his agent last week City agreed to allow the player to rejoin Celtic on loan whilst Celtic would be happy enough with that they would prefer a permanent move. As far as I know we are the only club to have offered any sort permanent deal, Southampton wanted a loan with an option to buy.}

26 Aug 2017 18:35:09
Am going to predict that there will be no new signings in come end of window if reporting of the Coetzee guy is correct and has a problem wae medical Celtic won't gamble and take him. The PR thing is just a major waste of time especially when it's a Loan deal. Roll on Thursday so we can move on one way or the other.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2017 14:47:08
Some Duverne whispers again Ed. You heard anything? Definitely think we're still a CB short atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - As I said a couple of weeks back we tabled a bid for Duverne. Lille had also tabled a second bid for the player but he's not keen on moving there and even though Lens want him to stay for another year, playing another year in the 2nd division doesn't seem to appeal to him.}

26 Aug 2017 12:27:42
Right ED / Brendan what's your starting line up for today? Would go with Gordon Ralston Lustig Tierney Millar ntcham Armstrong Hayes Rogic Sinclair Griff.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Depending on whether Simunovic is fully fit, which looks unlikely I'll go with Gordon; Lustig, Ajer, Bitton, Tierney; Brown, Ntcham; Forrest, Rogic, Sinclair; Griffiths.}

Don't usually comment on our transfer activity. I must attempt I'm a little disappointed that a few more haven't arrived by now.
Yes we are on a high to be in the Champions League, but a quality defender ( apart from the SA boy) and another striker would have been the Icing on the cake.
Hope BR has a wee Ace up his sleeve.
Well that's by moan over, now going for the Train and having a few beers before the game.

I wouldn't worry just yet, I fully expect paddy to return and south african lad to sign. Think there's a striker in the in Rodgers sights aswell. With three incoming I would be happy until Jan where a full back and probably need to replace Armstrong would be required.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2017 10:18:37
It looks as if Dembele is out till end of September and you never know if its going to be a recurring injury so we need a decent striker. Problem is you don't gey a lot for less than £6 or £7mill and i can't see that happening. Personally i would sell Moussa as i think he is going to suffer these hamstring injuries time and time again. If we can get £20mill now go and but the replacement then we are back to 2 fully fit strikers.
