Just noticed seeing the bhoys training that NC has not got any number on his training top when everyone else has does this mean he's not quoted and is not in CL squad.

I find it hard to get my head around how strong a position we finished last season to looking at the team tomorrow night and wondering who to play at centre back and who to play up front. Most of us have been saying this could bite us in the arse since the transfer window opened yet here we are in this position. Why have we not strengthened already? because once again we are gambling on qualifying instead of strengthening to make sure we qualify.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2017 23:30:58
We have always suffered from a complacency at board level when we are successful and repeatedly fail to add sufficient quality and push-on from a position of strength. The Armstrong situation has been allowed to drag on, while the uncertainty over our strikers should also have raised concerns at this crucial time.
Centre back is now a real headache and I would have liked another keeper as Gordon is prone to panic and errors in really big games in my opinion.
Paddy Roberts would have been a real boost to the team, but I appreciate sometimes the managers hands are tied during these windows and we still have some top players, but after such momentum and consistency last term, we are really anticipating another bumper season and needed a couple more additions to kick-on and improve in Europe.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Jul 2017 10:21:33
Agree with what you say regarding a CB but I think getting a striker in would be difficult. Can you tell me a top goal scorer who would be so good he can score goals in champions league but would be happy to be 3rd choice behind Dembele and Griffiths when they are fit? They wouldn't come to Celtic unless they were going to be first choice. The problem has arose because LG was stupid enough to tie a scarf to a post and got himself a ban. That has caused the problem far more than not spending cash on a new striker.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - So who do you blame for us having the same problem last season when LG and Dembele were out? The problem arose then and now because the squad is low on strikers. Anyone in football will tell you if you play one up front you need 3 strikers in your squad.
Not to mention Lawwell's complete lack of a backbone to challenge UEFA's ridicullus charge against LG. There's people who backed LG over his racism, being a deadbeat dad, throwing a milkshake over a schoolkid who are now crucifying him for tying a scarf round a goalpost - check the archives, there wasn't one person bitching about it when he done it at Ibrox. The good old Celtic Family eh? A Club like no other and a fanbase with more faces than Big Ben.
If you locked 2 Celtic supporters in a room you'd get 5 different opinions on the same subject.}

26 Jul 2017 12:10:48
Won't hear me condemning griff he made my season at greyskull was right behind the post he done it in was even funnier 2nd time round when they out stewards on the goal so he laid the scarf on the penalty spot . LEGEND.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2017 11:59:46
I never backed him over racism or being a crap dad at all. The point I'm making is why would any top striker come to Celtic to be second fiddle to both Dembele or Griffiths. I'm sure Rodgers would like another striker but can he get one that adds quality to the team? Be as well playing atchinson but I don't think he is good enough yet.

25 Jul 2017 21:10:52
Spot on mate. But I'd start Hayes and Forrest on opposite sides. Flexible like.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Jul 2017 21:27:26
Why play sinky upfront? He scores for fun playing on the wing . There must be someone else who could play up front and hold the ball up and link up with our midfield!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers moved Sinclair up front last year when LG and Dembele were out.}

25 Jul 2017 21:46:14
Armstrong at right back welsbhoy? I would go for,
Gordon
Lustig jozo ajer KT
Brown ntcham
Hayes rogic benyu
Sinclair.

Agree3 Disagree1

25 Jul 2017 21:37:08
Aye but I don't think that worked that well and he changed him wae Paddy and the false 9 job I think Rogic could do a turn up there wae the way he can hold up the ball in tight spots. It's going to be tough playing without a striker but once they get used to it.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 21:56:34
Lh86 exactly what I would like to see, need to keep full back positions strong for their counter attacks. Big ask of Ajer and don't want any young player being put in a situation that sets them back never to recover from, but everything I have heard about him is he is very composed.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 21:58:09
My team:

Gordon
Lustig Ajer Simunovic Tierney
Brown Ntcham
Forrest Rogic Hayes
Sinclair.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 22:03:10
Gordon

Lustig. Simo. Tierney

Brown. Ntcham

Hayes. Armstrong. Rogic. Forrest

Sinclair.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 22:19:43
Brown playing in front of a back 3 of Lustig Simunovic Tierney is an option. Would allow Ntcham to play alongside Armstrong. Rogic doing what he does best, Hayes on the right and would like to see Benyu on the left if Sinclair has to replace Dembele up top. Hoping BR throws Ajer in though would be a huge vote of confidence in the youngster and mean less people pulled out of position.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 22:28:01
I would go with.

Gordon

Lustig, Jozo, KT

Brown

Hayes, Armstrong, Ntchan, Sinclair

Rogic.

Big Rogic has an eye for goal and would hold the ball up well for the other attackers to get forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 23:06:04
You must be confident jonbhoy.

Agree2 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - Play with 10 men and say it's a protest about LG's ban. Wait a minute, the panty wetters might think a protest involving 10 men is a political statement so best not! Phew- close yin there!}

26 Jul 2017 08:36:43
I'd play Hayes up front. He has done that quite a bit in his career and sinclaire is much more dangerous out wide.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2017 10:35:38
I would play Benyu in front of Forrest. James still is no nearer to fixing his final baw problem.

My team would be

Gordon
Lustig Simo Ajer KT
Armstrong brown Natchem Benyu
Sinclair Rogic.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2017 11:44:18
Roberts could have done it but still hoping dembele comes through.

25 Jul 2017 19:10:46
Its that time of year again guys where we are all asking where are the transfers and why we have no back up at CH or up front etc.
In recent seasons its always been the debate wether we wait for CL inclusion or not as obv we can spend more and attract a better quality of player.
Its getting harder with it costing 50m for a full back down south this is what we are up against.
IMHO we have to wait now unless we can find the odd gem in Ollie or Benny, as the standard of player we need is higher than ever due to the success of the team and how well we are playing.
We have 24 players in our squad and 1 of them is Cifti, so BR has certainly trimmed the squad.
I sure we all agree we no longer want a squad player we must get a player who walks into the team, and we all see where we need the these players.
So yes its hard to take just now and frustration at no more signings yet but if we are patient and qualify for CL I think we will be rewarded.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2017 20:08:07
This is why it's important we try and produce our own players mate what would people be happier with if we had to pick spending big on a few players every year or spending a lot every year on our academy?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 20:39:12
I think everyone of us would love nothing better than to see a team full of home grown talent tearing up the league and Europe. The reality is that, bar the obvious few, we really haven't managed to produce adequate quality. 99% of the player's we release stay at a low level. Maybe this is down to recruiting, development, opportunity, luck or all of the above.

Who knows, maybe one of the young lads will come tomorrow night and do exactly what KT done when the opportunity presented itself. Wouldn't that be great to see.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Look at all the clubs down in England that spend millions on their academies and youth recruitment and look how many players make the grade, Denayer, Roberts and Ntcham at City, Lukaku at Chelsea, Pogba at Utd though that wasn't all about football They stockpile these players in the hope they uncover a gem and if they don't they make a tidy profit, Chelsea signed Lukaku for £10 million, loaned him out for 2 years then sold him for £28-30 million to Everton. That's like us getting £8 million for Ciftci!
We do the same it's just on a much smaller scale and we usually only get nominal fees for departing players but we do stockpile young players like all big clubs.}

25 Jul 2017 20:58:14
We could have Tierney right back and Mcgregor left back and Simunovic and Lustig centre tomorrow night, however as much as I like what he does for team/ squad I recall Mcgregor getting caught upfield when playing left back last season and apparently Rosenberg play on the break. It's also means moving too many players around so I hope Brendan plays Ajer and like you say I hope he goes out and shows he is ready like Tierney did.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Jul 2017 21:09:05
Agree that the EPL clubs are a scaled version of what we are doing, in terms of what level of player they can uncover, or sell for a small fortune. What do you think is the issue with our academy Ed? If we can produce a Tierney and McGregor it shows that it is possible.

You need incredible luck to be able to produce half a team, such as Fergie's Fledglings. Monaco are the obvious recent example and beneficiaries of focusing on developing youth, as opposed to spending big.

I'm still hopeful that this year will see us bring one or two more success story's through.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - For me it's all down to the coaching. The age old excuse about the size of the country and population etc is bollocks, how many genuine world class players has England produced in that last 5 - 10 years? It's a UK wide problem and not just a Scottish one, imagine how much more shite the EPL would be if they didn't have the money to buy mediocre foreign talent let alone the quality foreign players they do have.
Sometimes I think we expect too much and don't forget how tough the support is on youngsters, they don't all come in and play like KT, it takes time for the to learn and progress and a lot of the support don't have the patience to let that happen, one mistake or one misplaced pass and they're on their back.}

25 Jul 2017 21:36:57
Was the stockpiling of players not also a means to try and beat the F. F. P regs as well Ed? Look at the boy Ake I think that Chelsea sold for £20mill and never really kicked a ball for them. Prices down there a ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Yeah it all helps with FFP.}

26 Jul 2017 08:39:39
You are bang on about youth needing time and fans being on their back.
Look at the amount of people on this page and in our wider fan base that wanted wee McGregor bombed out of parkhead ed007.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Exactly.}

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 17:35:34
Heard that Moussa is a doubt for tomorrow's game and as LG is suspended we are back to SS up front with Hayes and the florist?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

25 Jul 2017 15:41:15
I posted last week about LG being a pratt and how it might cost us if Dembele was injured, Now that maybe exactly what could occur. Last week before he was banned I was castigated for slating LG now i wonder how you would feel if we lost out on europe completely because of a lack of a goalscoring forward.
We could not only lose out on new players but we could lose those who are at the club and want CL football, the lost revenue all because a player went to put a scarf round a goalpost
The same could apply to those posters who are supporting the GB. We could see the stadium closed and have team play in front of an empty paradise just so some idiots can make a politcal point, You cannot use football stadia for politics if you want to protest do it outside Government offices, Or maybe perhaps that does not suit you as that won't get the same publicity.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed007's Note - And there was me thinking the whole point of a protest was to get as much publicity as you can for something. As for LG, don't you think you've made the point yourself by saying 'all because a player went to put a scarf round a goalpost'? It's a nonsense charge and punishment that Celtic should have challenged.
It's also ridiculous that the slow recruitment policy has put us in the same position as last year with no available strikers, the Club has known we need a striker and haven't addressed that yet.
I'm just hoping that someone in another section remembers the pyro for tomorrow, maybe LG will bring them, I heard he's invited members of the GB to the game to watch it in his box and Izzy & KT offered to get them tickets ;)
Sounds to me like you're choking for us to get beat to have a 'told you' so moment.}

25 Jul 2017 16:23:08
What about throwing that Michael Johnstone in at centre forward?

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Jul 2017 17:21:33
I'm more worried about the back door. We've got goals in us against them even without Griff and Moussa (if he is missing)

Agree5 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 17:23:40
So it would be LG fault if we lost 1 game because he isn't playing? We have a squad of players who win and loose games together not 1 individual. Sure griffiths is daft as a brush, he should hopefully learn from this.

Agree5 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 17:25:42
Play Sinclair up front and put Benyu on left as the boy can play. With ON in midfield with SB and Rogic there is enough threat to play without a main recognised striker imo. We did it twice last season and managed to score 5 goals each time so why not?

Agree4 Disagree1

25 Jul 2017 17:49:00
We will still put two or three past them.

Agree4 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 17:52:24
The Hun can sing sectarian anti-catholic abuse for 90 minutes, lob coins and Buckie bottles at LG and sing songs about famine and child abuse or attack our managers and captains inside stadiums, beat their drums, flaunt their sashes and block the streets and put racist slogans and statues of Our Lady on bonfires outside them and not a dickie bird is said. But don't just don't tie your Celtic scarf tae a Huns goalpost. Geez a break Jonace for feck sake. Some TIMS on hear are getting sorer to listen to than the Huns. The Celtic family. for 50 plus years I thought so. Me thinketh many have forgotten their auld arse.

I think BR will play his best 11 players tomorrow and adapt the formation around that. Its certainly not an occassion to throw in Ralston, Aitchison or Johnstone. Probably not even Ajer. Armstrong played great at right back in a game last season and has plenty of pace to get up and down the flank, allowing Lustig to play CB. Tierney was also tried at CB in pre season with Hayes LB, so that's an option. He could also play up front due to his pace. Personally think we'll start with a 3-5-2 but with the personnel to allow us to change formation easily if need be:

Gordon

Lustig
Jozo
KT

Forrest
Armstrong
Broony
Ntcham
Mcgregor/ Hayes

Rogic
Sinclair.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 20:59:36
Good post JFP. Whilst I agree that the GB let themselves down last week the attention on this has been a bit ott.

Now look at sevco and the blatantly sectarian, anti Catholic, child abuse related and banned songs that a sizeable element sang at all the fixtures against ourselves and no real backlash or condemnation from the press or our club.

Factor in the attacks on our players, the racial abuse and PL has been too quiet.

Whilst I'm disappointed in the unnecessary focus brought due to recent events it pisses me off that our club have not come out in the strongest terms condemning and shaming the actions of the other mob last season or their sister team over in NI.

PL used to hog the limelight and now becomes Mr Invisible!

Ed do you know why the game isn't being broadcast live on TV tomorrow?
Is it a Celtic decision?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Yes it's the Club's decision. The home teams hold the broadcasting rights to the CL qualifiers and negotiate deals themselves. I don't even think they've sold it to Norwegian TV and that's probably down to them not wanting people to
stream the Norwegian channel - it's pathetic mate.
The thing is though - and it REALLY gets on my wick this - how do you get Celtic TV on your actual TV without having to faff about connecting your laptop to it? The reason I bought my android box was because let's face it, it's shite watching a game on a laptop screen and I need to use my laptop during games so I can't connect it to my TV and edit, cover the live chat etc And what about people who don't have a computer or can't use one? GGggrrr I'm away to kick next door's cat, now see what you've started! ;)

Strange one for me. I'm no CEO but surely the club would have been better off selling the rights? As far as I'm aware, if you live in the UK, all Celtic TV gets you anyway is live audio, and video replay later in the day (which to me anyway, is pap) . That may be different for tomorrow's match, but there's no option to sign up for one game/ day. It's 50 quid! Who's going to sign up just for that that hasn't already anyway? I don't know what sort of figure CFC would be looking at mind for selling the broadcasting rights, but I thought they would have.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2017 16:51:30

Ed and WB, Would be better off explaining this JT because I am no teccy

But my understanding is in line with yours

I watch a lot of Celtic TV abroad and have it but it never works here using my zip code which means it must be a browser thing but how do they get round that here?

Got the Lyon game on my new stream box, never got Linfield game drives me crazy mate

At some point somebody has to make these games a PPV event and Celtic would roll it in IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You can make your computer produce IP numbers from other countries so Celtic TV think your PC is in the US for example. I've read about them but never seen one working, WB will know more than me.}

A big rubbish brick house of a guy grabbed me and swung me about like rag doll. It was a great game and our nerves were frazzled after Russel equalised to give them the point they needed. We kept at them with ten men, scored the third the Murdo stepped up with a twenty yarder into the top corner that even writing this still gives me goosebumps. I think I actually lost my mind celebrating. Went feckin mental :)

That night I went around to my best pals who was also there but tragically for him in the wrong end.

I can't say he was pleased to see me.

Big bad johns goal at anfield, made me believe we could compete at that level for the first time since I had started going to games in 1984, should have known uefa and the epl would move the goalposts lol 😁.

I love Lamberts in the 6-2 game tae.
I had a broken leg at the time and sat up it the
When the ball hit the hit I jumped forward and forgot my crutches. Done a head dive right into the row in front of me.

Agree Kev Lamberts to put us 3-0 up after 10 mins was something else, I ended up in row DD and I sit in FF still don't know how I ended up there, thought I was going to pass out at that game you were just recovering from one celebration and we'd score again. Magic 😁😁.

I can't remember whether it was big Sutton or Liam miller who scored it but we scored a fantastic team goal against Lyon in 2003 or 2004 in the champions league at park head. Must've been 20 passes in the build up.

I could have typed Lh86 post and to have had my feet on the ground witnessing both first hand was extra special too

For an extra and a bit of banter Tommo's first goal @ Ainfield we were sitting in the very back row of the main stand and my best mate said as Thommo ran up to strike that daisy cutter " Bend it like Beckham Thommo" which as soon as he said I FELT like punching him the scouse fans weren't too pleased with his statement and growled accordingly! Then the ball went fkin IN! I think the thing that saved us was plenty jumped up to celebrate in that main stand

My fav all time game (y)

I wouldn't disagree with any of the previous selections, but I also remember Tony Watt's goal against Barcelona.
Up till then in the match, I still expected Barcelona to equalise and even go onto win the game.
When Watt scored, it really hit me that we were going to beat arguably the greatest club team that has ever played the game.
It was a really special night.

Di Canio's goal at Pittodrie when he controlled a long ball beautifully with the left foot chipped the keeper with the right foot then placed it into the net with the left foot, in the golden boots. Think there was only a few mins left the celebrations were incredible.

My favourite 'goal' was Jozo's tackle on Miller last season.
Not technically a goal in the real sense of the word but I cheered as much when it happened as I would have for any goal. HH.

Andy Thoms screamer at the Bigotdome was some goal.

Does anyone remember Mike Galloways goal at Paradise v Dundee Utd. I was just a young lad sitting on the railing in the jungle roughly in line with the half way line just memories of it being from a good 25-30 yards out. I think we won 4-0.

Morten Wieghorsts rabona to the back post for Regi Blinker to slot home against the sheep at Pittodrie in a 6-0 trouncing. Anyone who hasn't seen this or forgotten about it you get it on YouTube. Class.

Scrappy scrappy goal but in terms of importance it was Larsson's late winner away in Boavista.

Larsson chip over Klos, most celebrated go of all time for me is Albert Kidds without a doubt.
I was 20 at the time and actually predicted a 5-0 nil and a Hearts loss (and I have witnesses lol) , yep if only I was Timalloy and put a bet on it.

If Moussa is out, do we put Scotty through the middle with Hayes and Forrest wide?

{Ed007's Note - That's probably what'll happen imo too.}

25 Jul 2017 14:12:37
See I don't like that at all! Taking players out there natural position to go in somewhere else when there should be adequate cover! Sinclair is wasted up front IMO! But I hope wrong and he bags a hat trick! Just kind of worries me that we're so short in certain areas! And the area we're strong in we go and buy 3 more for! Lol. a centre half and striker are a must before the window shuts!

I would keep sinclaire out wide and put Hayes through the middle.

Think this shows were severly lacking in cover for key positions ie striker and centre half a just don't understand why celtic as club always seem to do this we never seem to push on and strengthen when we need to instead of aw wel will wait and see if we qualify.

Think we should be trying to move fast in the market and secure a few more signings, GK didillon of Metz CB - either guilbert of caen or djiku of bastia, and RW saint-maximum of bastia or harit of nantes, all young talented guys in the French league who could become great assets to the club, surely having Oli and moussa in the club would entice these lads to join, could get them at a good price presumably with their current club receiving a sell on percentage from future sale HH.
