Well bhoys and ghirls I'm saddened today . every where I look it's van djik or Forster going to some small English side with lots and lots of cash, offering 1/3 rd of what they expect for their own player . We as celtic supporters are being made to look like mugs in my opinion in one hnd they beg for our season book money while at the same time sell off our own assets with little or nothing coming into the club . We may be playing some nice football but we have no chance in the champions league or even the Europa league without squad improvement fact . Even the league and the cup competitions, every team no matter how big or small in the scottish premier league have improved there squad with little money needed it brings a freshness in . so why not celtic? Why wait for cl qualification before we buy and then it's a risk if the player is up to it or fit enough with no pre season with the club a poor way to do business . Good financially poor for the football team and fans .

Celtic always . but getting very impatient and fed up now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have been taken for mugs for a while now, Unless supporters show true unrest towards it nothing will change.!
We have been short changed for the last 2 yrs by the board but qualifying for champions league papers over the cracks, will it take being knocked out before league stages for some supporters to realise FFS. !?

Spending 6-8mil on 2-3 players at qualifying stage might not guarantee but better than going with what we have (not great) and risking not qualifying!
I'm not in business but if we don't qualify for groups we will need to sell, so that means the board have accounted for money not guaranteed lol.
Most supporters on here are regulars and still question what's going on!

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a constant moan every year by Celtic fans . I would have thought all Celtic fans of at least five years vintage would have got the message by now that the board is not a buying club . That's part of the Celtic lifestyle, so it's not worth moaning about .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Should we just accept it and keep our opions to ourself then, be like you and bury our head in the sand, swallowing any bit of BS that comes from the board and pretend everything's hunky dory, even when it clearly isn't!}

Don't hold back Ed. Lol - your saying what 99.9% of us are thinking, the objective of our club (under current leadership) will not change until PL leaves or Desmond too too sells his shares and gives someone else a crack at the whip. That is the reality, I'm not one bit happy with it as we show no ambition as far as I'm concerned. But I'm kind of used to it. if that makes sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I just can't get my head round fans who don't want to see a reasonable investment in the squad and more importantly see the club progress back to it's rightful place as one of Europe's elite clubs and consistently compete at that level. CFC should be aiming for 2nd place in the CL groups or at the very least 3rd and dropping down to the EL being the whipping boys and seeing qualification as some sort of triumph is like celebrating having only one sore ball after a street fight.}

I think we have lost the premise a wee bit and become too focused on sustainability. We will always have to sell to maintain a level above the system we are forced to participate in. However, IMO, we have crossed the line by damaging the team in pursuit of profit. Two seasons ago we had a decent display and the makings of a team which could go to the next level. Our powers that be, sold the nucleus of that team and we went backwards (further than we were before building up that team). I'm sure NL told the board what he needed but they did not back him to the level required. Same with Strachan. RD will walk as we'll if the club don't try to meet his ambitions. I think RD will come good but will he get to keep his players and build on success? GS and NL did'nt and it's the same board so I doubt it. Not saying the board are bad but time to introduce some fresh faces there (just like they do with the team).

Agree0 Disagree0

@2) as a child my hero was Paul Mcstay the most underrated midfielder scotland has ever produced fact. I followed his career right until retirement my sons are 10 and 7 it's hard and I feel sorry for them when every season they lose one of there heroes . EVERY Season! That's fine if a good replacement is coming in but as of late nothing is or has happened and I find it sad . It's our club our team we have the right to question why.
Celtic always.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 08:45:07
I don't like having a go at anyone on here as it is a platform for everyone to voice their opinions. I have to say though @2 that sort of acceptance of mediocrity is baffling. I don't know if it's youth, naivety or a combination of both but as a paying customer you should always expect the best. I get mighty pissed off when I see this happening year in year out. There is no phrase that drives me mental like, "fits our signing policy". I expect that packaging shit from the board but not the fans.

Tiny Tim makes a good point, the Club is playing with fire. It appears they can't sell our best players quick enough. If you put profit before the product then it will come to the point when people say enough is enough. You can fool some of the people some of the time and all that.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can't stop players heads being turned by the epl teams and every time we get a good one this will happen, but what we can do is charge them epl money if eg, lovren goes to liverpool for 20 mill then that's the starting price for vvd, if they don't pay they don't get our players, if they want them for the self proclaimed best league in the world then make them pay accordingly

Agree0 Disagree0

The demise in standards and quality has been ongoing while the support have been duped and taken for granted.
There has been a distinct lack of star quality at Celtic Park for too long and even in the 90's - when we had a long barren spell - there was quality and entertaining players that excited the fans and sold replica shirts etc.
The current squad is inadequate and has failed to totally dominate in a one-horse league and is ill equipped for the CL.
The prices being charged to watch Celtic is not value for money when we keep off-loading any hint of talent we acquire or produce.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I may be wrong here, hooper didn't want to stay wanyama ditto, kelvin Wilson was homesick and wanted to go back to England.what were the board supposed to do tell them they are staying and then walk away for nothing as long as the epl come calling we just can't compete, as big as we are we are a poor second financially.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's the quality of replacements that concerns me though, Killy. We all know we will lose our best players but we are replacing them with inferior players, why hasn't there been interest in any of the Bosman's that have been available this summer?
We've done well in that department in the past, but the difference is we paid top dollar to get Wilson, Ledley and Matthews in, it's obvious that the club is lowering wages and are unwilling to pay the going rate nowadays or that little extra required to snap up Bosman signings.
Our signing of VVD and Johansen proves you don't need to spend £5/6 million for quality if you shop around, it's really only when you start looking at attackers/strikers you get into the £5+ million bracket.
Pedro will have his Rosary out that RD can turn around the careers of Pukki, Balde and Boerrigter, and that Tony Watt screws the head, if they do it will be 'they're like new signings' patter that gets wheeled out.}

It's very simple to me, muttering away every transfer season about the board only creates more negative thoughts and more negative thinkers .
Try doing something to change the board's attitude to spending and then maybe more support will be given

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So just bury your head in the sand instead of getting people talking about what's wrong..... I don't know if you're on the wide up, are only 14 or really are as cerebrally underdeveloped as you come across. You're the only person I know who so blindly backs anything the board do, and for the simple reason that it's Celtic. Half your posts don't even make any sense and just get deleted.}

Thanks for the nice comments about me . Ed . It must make you feel good knowing you can post as you do and anyone who even dares to criticise you, doesn't have a post posted for a week or more .
Of course I know this is a complete waste of time, as you won't let these comments be posted .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You can disagree with me no probs, the only times (note the plural) you've been blocked is when your posts have been abusive towards me or others. The garbage posts you send in I delete for your own good, if other people read them you'd be even more of a laughing stock, I'm actually doing you a favour.}

Thanks for all your favours Pal, with pals like you who needs enemies?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't mention it.}

OMG Yourman, a little respect for 007 please and the job he does. You really must be a love child of Peter Lawell because everyone can see the need to invest properly the money we have brought in apart from you. It looks like it will take us to fail to qualify for the CL for some to open their eyes about the lack of class in the current side

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest Martyc1888, I too would like us to sign a top goal scorer . But can we get someone polific to sign for us . As far as I can see when a player thinks he is of certain ability, he cannot wait until he goes to a a team in the low levels of the EPL .
Until we are able to hold on to our better players for two years and longer I hold little hope for the big signing .

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 19:51:47
It seems to be common knowledge we are after wingers so to speak. I for 1 am not sure this is a good idea. Wingers as we know are permanently inconsistent, I feel you have to go to the Bale, Robben, Ribbery level to find any real consistency and that's never going to happen.Go back to my day and the best (dare I say it) was Davie Cooper, John Robertson and they used to get slaughtered when they didn't turn it on for bein lazy etc.Now for the money we will spend ( if any) we have no chance of signing any decent consistent winger.So my point here is would they score 15 a season because that's what's required if we play that way with 2 wingers.I don't think so, now I know every 1 not a fan of Stokes Griffiths Pukki etc but would they grab 15 a season if we had a better striker for them to play off either side.I certainly would bet top dollar they would if played consistently.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

RD will play his formation, I think we have seen the last of Stokes, well I hope we have anyway.

After his nonsense when subbed I would have him at the back of the queue or even better sold if I had my own way.

I hope Pukki and Watt can make the step up this year if we don't sign a good quality striker that is. If we can sign a good level winger then its bound to be a foreign player as I don't see GMS being the required level for Celtic and the Engurlish market is sickeningly overpriced.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stokes is in Ireland on court duty .

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 23:57:46
After his nonsense when subbed? should a player be happy about bein subbed? I never met 1 yet. The manager wudnt expect him to be, if he was then he not a pro. I think this has been well over exaggerated. The thingsplayers get away with and we want t crucify Stokes for this? Totally laffable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman if it was a one-off fine, but Stokes is notorious for this, - our new manager has just arrived, and Stokes can't even acknowledge him, he can be as pissed of as he wants to be, absolutely, he had another shocker in Europe, so I don't expect him to be skipping of the pitch delighted, but he should be looking at himself before blaming everybody else. There is something about his character I don't like, on top of this he is absolutely rotten in all the big/pressure games, so it is hardly laughable to slate him. If he left tomorrow for a million quid I would be happy enough, his level is SPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Paul - Spot on mate, that's the point I was getting at.

Another Stokes shocker, gets subbed and starts his nonsense.

I don't rate him as a player and don't think he should have been signed in the first place.

Rayman - the only time a player should moan when he subbed is when he has played really well and the game is close or we are behind.

Did anyone else get an e-mail from the SPFL announcing the launch of the Official Petrofac Training Cup Website?

Read the second paragraph -

'Supporters can enjoy the latest news, views, information, pictures and videos from the competition for clubs in the Scottish Championship, Scottish League 1 and Scottish League 2, as well as Brora Rangers (Highland League) and Spartans (Lowland League).

On top of that there will be some incredible competitions as we bring to life arguably the most competitive tournament in Scottish football.'

Are they having a laugh, how the hell can it be a more competitive tournament than the TWO that include ALL Scottish teams - including their own top division - what's there to argue about?
It's another terrible statement from our governing body to add to the collection, I wonder if they will stick by that once the League Cup and Scottish Cup starts.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2014 14:24:14
In my opinion if we do not progress further in the CL qualifiers the blame can only be on the Celtic board for not investing in the team RD has pin pointed the positions needing strengthening i.e wings but still nothing what to you think ED?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think you're far wrong, Tony, but the usual suspects will say 'why should we risk spending money? We don't want to end up like Rangers' ... yadda yadda yawn!}

25 Jul 2014 15:38:57
We need a big target man, someone to head in all these crosses we waste

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 15:50:59
Said before, it,s not a lack of spending, but a lack of wise spending. We can,t run a business endlessly trawling for hidden gems. Still buying six or seven in hope, that never make first team, instead of one or two quality. The only thing that will change board attitudes is if stadium turns into a ghost town and by October if there is no european football it will be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Initially we were told by RD that we wouldn't see anybody in until the first CL qualifier was over. So here we are, and RD should know what he wants to add, yet there doesn't even seem to be any rumours at all! And now we have RD saying he's confident the current squad can qualify, not promising from a transfers point of view.

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all I wouldn't pay much attention to what any managers says to the media.
I was of the opinion Deila said there would be no one signed for the Icelandic ties . Even with the best will in the world it is not easy to attract decent players to the club .
Hopefully we are working on players .

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not asking to spend millions on one player. But we do need new players. That was evident last year. So if our target is to buy players we can coach, make better then maybe sell on( which still doesn't sit easy with me ) then why haven't we? If that type of player is our aim then surely it's matterless if we qualify for cl or not. That type of player shouldn't be out of our reach regardless. The irony off it all seems to be that refusing to spend 6 million May well cost us 15 million. Something is not right. Why haven't we brought anyone in with such a crucial time approaching

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 00:01:26
strange we now want to blame the board if we don't qualify. Last year it was lennons fault if we didn't, which is it??

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Lat year was a team NL had built, the board aren't even helping RD with getting players in he wants.}

26 Jul 2014 12:18:57
Ed he only been in the door 2 minutes give it time I sure he has his targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You asked the question and I gave you the answer. Why aren't the board getting RD's targets in now, or are you blaming RD for the lack of signings?
If he has players in mind to improve the team it's surely for the best they are brought in as quickly as possible? If the board's gamble back-fires and we don't qualify you can hardly lay the blame at RD, it's still NL's team out there and he would be entitled to blame the board for any failure to qualify.
And if we do qualify all Pedro's wee fan-Bhoys can worship at his feet about how smart he was to wait while we scrimp and scrape to tie up deadline day loans and the scraps nobody else wants like Miku and Lassad. Not to worry I'm sure we'll be able to add Forster's and van Dijk's transfer fee to the CL money and bank it with the rest.
Who needs a nice team on the park when we can cheer on having a nice balance sheet. So, Ray, who would you blame if we didn't qualify?}

26 Jul 2014 16:06:47
Iwudnt blame anyone mate its football, anyone can beat anyone on their day no one is entitled to win or qualify. There is no way we will qualify every year.Just like we won't win the league every year its impossible. Until the time we qualify automatically that is.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Why shouldn't we qualify every year, other teams do it,that's rather a defeatist attitude.}

26 Jul 2014 17:35:21
Nope just reality mate,we will come up against a superior team at some point.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I suppose with this board in charge there is every possibility of that. We could end up playing a Qarabag, Sheriff Tiraspol, Aktobe or even Ludogorets Razgrad. All of them will see it as some kind of miracle if they qualify, is that our level now?}

Is it not possible that the board is doing everything in their power to bring in the players Ronnie wants?
I presume it would have taken Ronnie until at least the middle of July to know his targets . The worse thing the board or Ronnie could do is buy players for the sake of keeping the forums happy .

Good morning everyone out for a stroll and in my local library so on for a wee while to catch up on things.
ED007 as I have missed a lot of what is going on what is your opinion of Delia? As a coach he seems to have good new ideas and appears to want Celtic to play a high tempo attacking game. But listening to his press conference he disappointed me a little bit by saying he is prepared to go with current squad for new season. I fear he may be a "Yes Man" which will be music to lawwell's ears.
I fear our Peter will sell forster and Van dyck and pocket the money. We the fans are being asked to fork out as usual for our season tickets and buy club merchandise but the fans are getting little or nothing back in turn.
Is Delia strong enough to go to board and ask for transfer monies? I fear he is not. I hope I am wrong as we need a good cL run to keep fans happy, but Legia warsaw are a very dangerous opponent and we may get turfed out before season even starts because of a lack of investment in the playing squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Good to hear from you, Tim and nice to see you getting out and about. I'm very happy with Deila so far, from the way he conducts himself in the media, his approach to coaching and his playing philosophy I've been really impressed.
I don't think he meant what he said about going with the squad we have, I'd say it was more him publicly stating that ALL the players we have will get the chance to prove themselves and if people follow his instructions, buy into his style and philosophy they will be part of his plans. It could just be seen as a way to boost morale and show the players he is willing to show confidence in them.}

Ed 007 .
I like your last post. It highlights what I have always thought that what a manager says to the media can be interpreted in more than one way .

Afternoon Ed, Firstly, "Objects in rear view mirror appear to be closer than they are" chortle chortle that is my belly laff for today will need to be claiming that 1!

My concern is the playing surface @ parkhead given what we have seen in pics, our provisions that are usually made for it during the close season ARE so much so that it always looks as good as anything else out there! Surely we will suffer from the effects of the CG!

Lastly on a previous note it might be worth while keeping a mental note for our accounts 14/15 to see if any payments (CG rent?) are registered because obviously legally it would need to be

Am just wondering mate if this "state aid" crap that musters from time to time is index linked to this mate and someone is at the madam?

Remember pal wee Fergus never forgave the council for making Celtic buy the "airspace" at the rear of the jungle! atb jb7

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The playing surface at Celtic Park will be relaid after the Commonwealth Games with new grass grown in the Netherlands, the same grass/turf used by Ajax and Real Madrid. The old turf is being transferred to Lennoxtown to see if that will help with the number of injuries we were picking up in training.
As for this state aid nonsense, it was all started by people who champion the idea that I started (and I'm still running) the Sons of Struth to help bring Sevco down from the inside - that shows you the intelligence and mentality of the bigots we're dealing with.}

Ed, you mean you don't run SOS? That's the only reason I joined. Mind you somebody told me there was free lamb chops as we'll but all I got was this stupid sheep glove puppet that had lipstick

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't run it no, I just put the money up for their silly wee cards and protests for $hits and giggles. The shirts we're selling are a nice little earner though. McTurdo is my brother in law and the guy on SOS has the contract for cleaning all my family's businesses. It's all done through Liverpool and Dubai addresses to Ed001 so that there is no paper trail. So Mote It Be....}

I'm a bit diss appointed about hull finalising a deal for Robertson from Dundee utd! We need another left back and he had a cracking season last season! Good left backs are hard to come by and he has cracking potential! I feel we are missing the boat a bit with the next generation of Scottish talent! I really like Armstrong from utd as well, I know RD doesn't have a grasp on Scottish players but that's why we have a vast scouting network! We have need another lb for a few seasons now and still no return.
