This is the reality I'm afraid of the poor ability of our squad as a whole.

Recruitment has been very poor from the moment Wanyama, Hooper etc left. From the window in which we purchased Pukki, Balde and Boeriggter up until now is why we find ourselves in this position and was the single biggest reason for Lenny's departure, he knew what was coming and didn't want to be a part of it.

It's not really about the money we have been spending because guys like Wanyama(£900K) , Forster(loan, £2M), Samaras(£2M), Ledley(Free), Hooper(2.4M), Matthews(Free), Kayal(before injury, £1.5M), Izzy(before injury, £750K), Tony Watt(£80K), Lustig(Free) etc all cost under the £3M mark each which is my point and that's a pretty good side there, even Ambrose and Kelvin Wilson did a job at the back. Malmos' team was built on a shoestring in comparison to ourselves but they've obviously spent wisely and recruited well. Spending more money will likely get us better players and I would like to see it happen but it goes to show that really our recruitment over the last 2 years has been very poor regardless of money spent.

The fact is the recruitment policy since these signings has been nothing short of shocking bar maybe Gordon, Bitton and Virgil(who were both awful tonight but in general good buys). When you add all the poor buys to the already general poor players around them who we can't get rid of simply because no one wants them then you end up with in general a poor squad which is where we are.

There's a reason the likes of Mulgrew, Brown, Stokes, Boyata, Boeriggter, Johansen, Forrest, Griffiths, Cifcti, Armstrong, GMS, Forrest, Scepovic, Scepovic, Commons are more or less in general unwanted by other clubs and we're left with them. Then there's the others who we REALLY can't get shot of so have to pay them off to get rid of them like we done with guys like Balde and Bangura and probably more. Because in the grand scheme of things they are poor players and this is highlighted and shows when we step up a few levels in Europe. We need a MASSIVE clear out but it simply can't happen because not enough teams are interested in our players with good reason and we can't afford to pay them all off their inflated wages and start again so are lumbered with them clogging up our squad.

I would love nothing more than to see the back of players like Mulgrew, Stokes, Johansen, Brown, GMS, Cifcti, Boeriggter and there are other players as well which may shock a few that I'd like to see leave but there's no point saying them because the list is almost endless(Boyata, Armstrong, Griffiths, Scepovic, Forrest) could leave as well imo. Yes I realise I've listed nearly the whole squad but this is the exact problem, we've let things slide badly over the last couple of years and we are a poor squad in general(I mean Malmo were celebrating wildly when they drew us in the Play-off which tells us where we're at).

If I'm being completely brutally honest, the only players I deemed good enough to compete at this level before the home game against Malmo that started were Bitton, Lustig, Gordon and Virgil, they're the only players I trusted to raise their games enough. That's 4 out of our starting 11 and that in the end is where the problem lies. Far too many not even passengers but liabilities, hindrances and in general very poor footballers. Also, look at the market a lot these poorer players came from, our league. The likes of Mulgrew, Armstrong, Brown(Wanyama, Ledley, Kayal and Ki have all been better over the years), GMS, Cifcti, Griffiths, Stokes. It's a bad market really and we're seeing the effects of that from what we do in Europe, you just have to look at what other SPFL teams do in Europe and ask why buying players from this market will make us any better? You get what you deserve in the end for signing players like this.

I don't know where we go from here tbh because quite frankly it's a bit of a mess and will take quite a bit of cleaning up and will need balls to be grown from both the board and Ronny. Ronny has got to drop players like Johansen, Brown and Mulgrew etc to put some kind of marker down. If he doesn't it'll be same old. Btw I seen Ronny say we'll learn from this, well he said this last year and we're still in the same position.

Last year we all had a go at Berget tonight for me he was man of the match. How many times did we slag.

If Virgil is worth 10 million snap their hands off. Everyone who has a go at Izzy watch Mulgrew at left back no pace out of position. Johansen the least said the better booked every game.

Basic football pass the ball again poor, crosses poor, most annoying for me corners that don't pass first man.

Gordon have watched now agree with ed never seen a keeper who parries a ball into danger area, never comes for corners. Plus zonal marking.

I don't blame RD just think whole team never turned up no one gets pass marks tonight.

Think you post makes no sense,'spending more money will likely get us better players',spending more money will get you more expensive players not better players, and what have you got against Brown?,he'd walk into most teams in the EPL,,the only one to blame for this debacle is Ronnie,I think he is a very good fitness trainer and dietician and motivational speaker, and maybe one day he will become a very good football manager, but he needs an old head as his assistant, someone who can point out the not so obvious as well as the obvious,Collins was probably the wrong appointment as assistant, but what do I know?

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Aug 2015 01:03:12
Don't be so deluded, Scott Brown could walk into most EPL teams? Do you really believe that? Wanyama, Kayal, Ki and Ledley have all been better CMs over the last 5 years than Scott Brown which says everything. There's a reason he's never gone down south because he knows he'd be found out. He's as poor and limited as they come. Great in a CL stare off competition but not CL football. His passing is poor and so is his all round general play. He rarely scores and assists and is supposed to be a leader but I don't see it. For the highest paid player in our team he simply isn't good enough.

It's fans like yourself who need to wake up to these jokers that play for us and realise that they aren't all that good. I understand you may like the hardman Broony image but if you watch him on the field then you'll realise what i'm talking about. His passing is beyond shocking, constantly finds the opposition with a pass.

26 Aug 2015 07:16:15
As a captain I have always liked Brown, but he has flaqws in his game that we usually get away with.
There is no doubt that we are usually a better team with him in the side, but tonight, too many underperformed.
His passing and even tackling are not good enough and at his age will never improve.

Not sour grapes as we got what we deserved due to lack of heart, ability and investment, but was there a reason why we played all our 2nd leg ties away from home even though we where the seeded team in each tie?

Luck of the draw buddy! But that should be the last thing we're thinkin about! Even if we had been drawn away,we would have still went out! This is definetly a cross roads for us as a club! We can't just shake this off and say let's get on with winning the league and doing well in the EL! Big changes need made at Celtic park! From top to bottom! We can't just paper over the cracks anymore! I like RD a lot! Very honest guy who I feel really wants to improve us! But he still simply cannot afford anything less than the treble and progress in the EL! That mite sound harsh but for me,and he's said it himself! He was brought in to deliver CL football.well that's 3 goes he's had at it and we're still waiting! I do not see any progress at all since he's been here!

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 06:29:59
The problem is m8 that RD was lawells appointment and I really can't see him getting shot of him. He was brought in as the cheap option and as we all know, it's all about the cheap option these days for Celtic. I'm not against a new manager coming in but whoever takes over will still have to work under a board that won't spend decent cash and I'm not saying mega millions but decent cash. The scouting system at parkhead these last few years have been a massive let down, hence the reason we've got players sitting picking up wages that aren't even worthy of the jersey and we can't get rid of.

The thing About tonite that disappoints me is that this wasn't a surprise! Everybody was saying before the game that Malmo will defo score! That for me sums up what we've become! It was so easy for a Malmo side on a fraction of our income and budget! They looked shocked at how easy they won! And they'll be saying so in all the papers I the coming days! To not even have a shot on target in the 2nd half when all we need is one goal is embarrassing! No fight no leadership and no clue! And from Lawell to the manager they all should shoulder the blame! Lawell being the main culprit! I said I would leave judgement until after the game! Well 3 exits from the CL in a year and 40 million pound gone with it is the last straw for me! The mans attitude borders on arrogance when he speaks! 6-8 million pound players! Then buttons spent in each of the last 3 windows since RD came in!! Look out for paradise being a ghost town once again during the EL! Nobody's interested in it! Utterly disgusted! This is where we are now! And it's not the club I love! Mind sound harsh and I'm ranting away but tonite was the last for me with regards to Lawell and the board!! VVD will go this week to rake in a tidy profit with a few diddy loans coming in! Nobody's fooled anymore! So pisssed off tonite!

Malmo turnover about £36m so about 60% of what CFC turnover. Big difference is there willing to pay Rosenberg almost £40k per week so they can have a few top class players yet we max out a £25k and seem intent on paying some very average players £20+k per week. Our issue is our wage structure. It's not fit for purpose were paying wages from 10 years ago while the whole world moves on. Including smaller Swedish teams.

Every player we have earns less than PL. name any other top club the CEO is salaried at more than the players.

Where to start? This is as low as I've felt in some time. Every other away team scored tonight whereas we, as always, never threaten. Our defence is a shambles, we have no class in the final 3rd in the shape of a creative midfielder and a striker. Another season of disappointment. What worries me is that we should 100 years ahead of everyone but we are not. We are just a shambles at times in Europe, especially away. I'm never confident against anyone away. Saying all of this, I still think we should stick with Ronny. He had only been in the job for 13 months which isn't enough but he needs to improve and quick. I think if he fails again next year his time is up.

Its not the end of the world. We'll move on and learn from the experience

50/50 tie? we are celtic they are malmo

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 00:22:38
It should never have been a 50/50 tie in the first place. Our budget dwarfed theirs and this is a failing on both the boards recruitment policy and manager. We have just missed out on so much money two years on the spin which is nowhere near good enough.

We'll only move on if something radical is done with both the board and the manager. Big change needs to happen in our transfer policy, wage structure and we need to ship out A LOT of deadwood. Ronny also needs to grow a pair and drop guys like Johansen when they've been playing so poorly. Also his decision to play Mulgrew was baffling as I said before the game, what on eart was he thinking? It's decisions like these that worry me about Ronny.

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 23:04:17
Extremely naive performance. The midfield was non existent for me. Johanssen has been very poor all season and tonight was no different. Felt a bit for Biton as he was isolated a lot tonight. Brown and johansson very poor. We needed a performance with the discipline of Qarabag but felt we got dragged into the mind games. Nothing will change though, we are a Europa league team who will only go one way. Down the money in England is killing us. We need a scottish boycott of Sky. We will never compete until there is a fair balance of finaice

Believable2 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 00:46:03
Did you not read that Malmo were put together for about £3 million pounds, the money in England has nothing to do with it,most of this failure is down to Ronnie, the team lacks creativity, why did'nt he give Allan a chance in the second half instead of ,maybe Armstrong,Ronnie been doing this since he arrived ,picking the wrong team, playing players out of position, concentrating too much on the fitness aspect rather than the ball control aspect of the game

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 22:50:06
Ronny is out of his depth time for him to go. Not one player signed since he came in arw exciting signings imo just more dead wood. I understand some may have been put upon him but come on. he's been in charge for well over a year and NO progress whatsoever, anybody ie john kennedy, hartley even me would/should be winning our league and cup no real challenge. Its time for a mass overhaul we can't expect to get into the cl with ex hibs dundee u players although decent enough squad players defo not cl standard. Griffiths decent/good striker spl wise but he's our main striker ffs for cl? gms fit for bench armstong played out of position and yeah I know ronny wants a right footer on the left to cut in blah blah. Ronny's comes across as a nice guy but for me he talks a better game than he plays, I can't see any shape at all in his formation, no plan b. Time for the board to go also

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Aug 2015 23:13:48
No not a Celtic minded manager a manager who is knowledgable flexible able to adapt to the threat of other teams and who can change the system to our advantage. RD has a rigid belief in a his system despite failings which are obvious to all. We are losing two goals every game. I think he has had enough games in Europe now to judge him and he is lacking, the team has no discipline. I didn't see the Malmo centre half trying to dribble through the inside left channel once tonight he played his position and looked far better than VVD. Johanssen is a clear favourite of the manger and on current form should not be in the side

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 23:38:43
DesH one thing is for sure, as long as RD is in charge we will never be a CL side. If you are ok with that then that's your choice but the majority of Celtic fans expect better. Simply saying who else can we get to manage our club is giving in. Do you believe that RD will deliver? Well we won't know now till this time next year and let's see what we do in the Europa League? If it's more of the same then what's the solution, do we stick with him regardless of results and performance? When is it time to say the RD experiment has not worked? Wining the SPL is a foregone conclusion so we judge ourself on how we are in Europe and right now we are not very good at all are we!

25 Aug 2015 22:36:58
Disgusting tonight. What are we doing with our time and effort. We are a shambles. Time for a revaluation. Sky boycott. It'll never happen but needs to for Scotland to grow. Say 1/5 of Scotland has sky and we boycotted it that be with average of £75 per household be £75m a month in lost income over a year it be £900m. They would have to invest with those sort of numbers. That's just TV subscriptions not including advertising monies. They would need to invest in football and other Scottish projects and not hold us in contempt as is the case just now

DesH your solution seems to be "do nothing" just let RD carry on? This team has gone backwards. No club even in the SPL are frightened to come to Celtic Park. Any team fancies their chances when they are at home to us and you obviously feel that is acceptable. Watch us get smashed on the Europa as well. This manager has no idea once he comes up against a half decent team and that's all Malmo, Maribor and Liega Wardaw are. In 11 European games we have won 3. Wake up and small the coffee.

25 Aug 2015 22:35:36
Our sainted Lawell, is continually telling everyone that will listen, we are a CL club. That is the place we belong, and he is right we are. As a football club, as fans. The one major fly in the ointment is it's the TEAM that get us there.

Now, how as a CEO, do you enable that?

Plan A

When you sell talent for good money you reinvest that into the team. Knowing that having the players to negotiate the three qualifying games adds £5m to the CL money. So, you invest, as the, economic term here, opportunity cost, of not investing
leads to missing out on more in lost CL money.

That takes investment, Scouting and a desire to give ourselves a fighting chance.

Or, as is the case.

Plan B

Sell all the best players. Spend hee haw, say three hail Mary's and hope we mugs, keep the faith.

Faith? Here's the definition

Strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof:

We have no proof the board even care to give us a chance.

So you can stick your faith up your arse.

We need proof. We have needed it for years.

Either provide it, or do one.

That was awful 3 of the 4 goals we lost to this team have been from corners. you would think that was one area we could get right.
Unfortunately until there is a change of policy at the club, this will happen year after year.
Celtic should be qualifying for the Champions league every season, with the level of teams that we have to play it would be pretty straightforward if there was a reasonable level of investment in the team. It beats me how the board can turn their noses up at £15-20million every year.
I hope Ronny stands up to Lawwell and demands some backing, we can't continue to go backwards year on year, the crowds have been dropping for a while now, and if fans think the club is taking them for granted, even more will stay away, buying unknown players and hoping they improve is not going to attract fans to matches.
Sorry for the rant, It's just heart-breaking to see the club I love becoming a laughing stock, when so much could have been done to prevent it.

The thing for me is how and why we somehow endeavour to give away cheap possession. The other thing is our total inability to tackle fairly or confidently. The fouls we dish out are quite cowardly. I'd rather win the 50 50s and compete on the air and leave iir opponents bruised. Someone mentioned fight. Nothing there tonight. Some wanted to literally fight but that is amateurish and immature. We were like rabbits caught in the headlights of an oncoming juggernaut. Malmo a juggernaut? Exactly. Discipline and awareness and general control new cannot achieve it in equal measure. At 2-0 they looked comfortable yet still threatened and somehow managed to make our forwards obsolete. One occasion late on griffiths is up against 2. Forrest was up against 3. Rewind to celtic park and Berget had all the time and space in the world to get his shot away. That is also about talent IE pitch geography. We are a naive bunch and solving that is incredibly difficult when you have ( perhaps ) a naive manager. Has RD actually won a BIG match yet? Have we exceeded expectations when the chips are down? Not so sure.

Pass marks tonight to Forrest 2nd half bar least he tried to commit them.

A horrible hopeless performance or was it? Is that perhaps our level? If you put our team and their talents in a different jersey and call them Malmo would we think they were predictable, ill disciplined, naive and lacking in genuine quality?

They killed the game at 2-0. We couldn't. They coasted home. Could celtic have cruised to victory?

The aim was to qualify for the ECL. Epic fail

In 172 minutes of football we lost 4-1. If only games were played over 8 minutes!

Poor tonight. We are moving backwards and it hurts

Everyone is always screaming about lack of investment and I understand that but we brought in a new manager with very limited experience and no experiance of European football. He only knows one formation and regardless of the personnel at his disposal he will not play any other way. RD will continue with that formation no matter who we bring in. Last year it was understandable that players didn't know how to play his system but tonight looked just like last year. No improvement after a year and 3 transfer windows. So what's the excuse now? RD will tell us that we are just not good enough and the fans can see that anyway. Why are we not good enough that is what I want to be told and what do we do about it? Change the entire team? I'm lost for words.

Failed, failed and failed again, 3 words that spring to mind with our manager.Failure to get CL last year, failure to win treble, and failure to get CL again.
Before anyone gets on their high horse and blames the board for not spending, well what did Malmo cost? Its not the spending its buying the right players.
Also at this point last year if we were promised Maribor and Malmo to qualify we would have bitten the hand off for that even before we spent a penny. Nope its all down to 1 man and that's RD. His naivity is unbelievable. He thinks we are a forward thinking team. We had 1 shot on target. Lo and behold we need 2 goals with 30 mins to go and he waits 20 mins to put another striker on. Oh I sorry RD you did put VVD up with 3 mins to go as well lol.
This forward thinking manager doesn't know how to organise a team defensively. We lose 2 goals from set pieces and we looked all over the place. Jeez they even created chances from throw ins lol.
He has now cost the club 40m this can't go on. His remit when he started must have been to get us CL football.
With VVD a certainty to go now, where is the next 10m coming from. None of his signings will go for much, he hasn't even signed a player worth 2m never mind 10m.
To add insult to injury the Malmo manager was right we don't look fit enough. That's got to be RDs biggest insult since all he has harped on about is fitness and diet etc. Has he inmproved any players? Forrest maybe if he can stay fit otherwise no.
Oops sorry he has managed to make Berget a better player, pity it wasn't for us tho.
The player he signed 1st and was terrible and hardly played, not only managed to score 2 goals against us but was easily the best player over 2 legs. And the fittest.

Rayman , our manager must take a good look at how the team performed . Our midfield was none existing . We needed a third man because Makmo were running through us , as if they were a good team . Virgil our defensive colossus showed in the two Malmo games he can't defend . Nobody with the strength or ability to hold the ball up.
We shouldn't need to spend freely to Qualify for Champions League .

Who appointed RD? That's right it was Lawell and co. I'm not his biggest fan but he has grew on me now the sheer fact that Lawell and co brought him in when nobody had heard of the guy, you'd think they'd back him with a bit of quality signings. If Lawell ( with all due respect) thinks that signing 3 ex Dundee utd players, an 19 year old from Manchester United reserves and boyata who's not really done much in the last few years is going to cut it he's sadly mistaken. For years now our big players have been moved on for big money and been replaced by mediocre players at best. It's just not good enough for a club the size of Celtic. Time the board got they're finger out or we'll be going through this same scenario year in year out!

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 23:31:59
Rayman, Lenny moved on because he was fed up selling his best players and buying cheap alternatives that weren't up to scratch. RD was brought in by Lawell and co as a cheap option and he was also someone who was prepared to work the way Lenny ended up refusing to. I'll give u an example of the board, we buy ki for a couple of million, hooper a couple of million, Forster a couple of million, wanyama £800,000 or so, kelvin Wilson on a free, joe ledley on a free, Adam Mathews on a free. We sell ki for £7.5million, hooper for £5.5 million, Forster for £10 million, wanyama for £ 10 or 12 million , kelvin Wilson for £2.5 million, joe ledley for around £2 million, Adam Mathews for around £1.5 million. We're on the verge of losing VVD for £10 million. I just think the board could be doing a bit more to support a manager THEY appointed.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 23:55:07
Your right Gaz lenny was unhappy with that. But I think most managers can work with that as long as the next gem is found. Lenny during his tenure found them, but RD has not. That's the difference. Where is the next Wanyama,Ki etc. I don't see them do you.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 01:13:58
Dont understand what you mean Gaz,all those players you mention were bought cheap or the cheaper side of cheap, were you complaining when they were bought?,there is an existing mentality in groups of supporters that all a manager has to do is buy a £6 million player and sit back ,job done. When Ronnie started here he played LG out on the wing, way out of position, and maybe I'm wrong ,but Berget seemed to play a different role for Malmo than he did at Celtic, the manager has a lot to do with it,look what happenned when Neil took over at the canaries,he transformed them with more or less the same group of players

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 06:17:20
So what are u saying then aindoh? It's all RDs fault? Nothing to do with the players on the park? Nothing to do with the lack of backing from the board at a European level? Not once have I said spend £6 million on a player nor do I expect Lawell to sanction such a deal but what I think every Celtic fan IS entitled to expect is a better quality of player. Now since hooper, Forster, wanyama, ki, ledley, and the rest that left for decent money, since they've left we've continued to watch sub standard replacements come in time and again and your not telling me that to replace say the likes of emilio, ambrose, scepovic etc with a better quality than they have will cost us mega millions? I don't know if it's the scouting system that's failing us know as we don't seem to be bringing through these gems anymore. Once big Virgil does the off for £10 million or so, I don't see any player there that's valued anywhere near that figure

I'm most disappointed with the lack of discipline - in all senses. This led to a lack of leadership. Scott Brown has looked every bit a man staring into a kebab in the midst of an existential meltdown.

Over the two legs we were aggressive or angry but at no point were we intense - our focus was never in the game and we got caught up in niggling and labored football.

It's a chance to seriously trim the inflated wage bill and be far more selective of those we bring in. Some of the performances were awful. Johansen and VVD were shocking and their arrogant laziness hung many out to dry tonight.
Janko was good so that was pleasing.
Out:
VVD
Stokes
Forest
Ambrose
Scepovic
Commons

Blood more youngsters this season and keep the faith.

AndyThomBhoy, Forrst was our best player. He was the only player able to beat a man and move forward. When he went off no one tried to beat a man. The entire team can't be that bad as individuals but as a team we haven't got a clue. VVD worth £20 mill? Not on the last Performance

I cannot disagree with you AndyThombhoy . I think Forrest offers something Mulgrew not a lot . We also need to give a long hard look at Deila , has he talked a better job than he has done . We had little excuses for tonight , only Lustig injured , Deila had his team for long enough , but we had a very poor performance one of our worse .

Johnnymac, you're right about VVD. 10m is a great deal as you can see when tested he can struggle badly. He picks up stupid bookings and can be wasteful and overindulgent. That is me analyzing him from a Southampton point of view as I'd keep him if we could.

Forest tried to beat players but created nothing as he generally ran into trouble or his final ball was awful.

I think a lot of the criticism of the board is now just. The celtic team as a whole weren't good enough. Severely lacking in several positions primarily due to lack of investment in quality players. The players brought in are not the calibre required for this level and for me the board should be held accountable for not investing adequately. Ronny can only use what's in front of him. Maybe Mulgrews selection was questionable but Izaguirre hasn't exactly been solid at left back so he's damned if he does and damned if he doesnt. I like Ronny I like his vision and for me he has been let down. The players were poor as a collective tonight into the mix but to recap the team and manager have been let down by a distinct lack of investment.

25 Aug 2015 22:35:05
I am not sure it was a lack of investment that was to blame . It was a lack of football nous and tactics . Man for man we were better than Malmo , but tonight especially they show a hell of a lot more hunger , than we did .

Another CL flop and I am so angry and embarrassed at how bad we are.
Between Peter Lawell, a succession of unqualified and naive managers and a host of average players that should be nowhere near a Celtic jersey - we are now a Pot 5 team and it hurts.

We had an advantage going into the game, but we surrendered it easily.
The Malmo manager out-thought, out motivated and out-psyched Deila and their players clearly wanted/deserved it on the night.
OK we should have had a goal/penalty and their captain Rosenberg kicked everything that moved, but we were bullied from start to finish and we had too many invisible or ineffective men.

Forrest was a trier and worked all night unlike Johansen, Bitton and others (even Brown was rotten)and Gordon saved us from a doing.
VVD will be off and his price may well have dropped after a series of games were we have leaked goals.
However, he is/was our best defender and the rest of them are a huge worry in any competition.

In the cold light of day, it is pretty clear we are not fit to be in the group stages - as decent teams would absolutely destroy us; so where does that leave us?
Dawdling along in a piss-poor league sparring with Aberdeen and Hearts for domestic honours and playing Thursday - Sunday for as long as we stay in the Aldi Cup.

Supporters like me who have been through many ups and downs since the 1960's expect highs and lows.
This period - although we are winning titles - has a hint of low about it as we are expected to win the league comfortably and should be doing much better in Europe, for a club of our size and reputation.

RD has had a year to improve the team and learn from the mistakes of last season and seemed confident he had made progress, but clearly we are no further forward and might even have more problems when VVD leaves and we now have no CL to attract any quality to the club.
So we are running out of assets for Lawell to sell each year.

PS: I usually moan about big Sutton, but he called it right all night and clearly loves the club.

Spot on in your post Jim. Celtic have had little investment and its killing us. Another point is that Malmo have spent 2 million and have a better team than us. So as well as no investment, the money we are spending is on poor players.

I know the game was gone by the time changes were made, but Deila's subs were crap. just changes for the sake of it.

Although we should've had a penalty, Griffiths and biton should've been sent off. Griffiths was embarrassing, proved the Malmo players correct.

JungleJim I am not going to fault much of what you said . I have defended the bombscare Ambrose all month, he wasn't on tonight and certainly the team were not the better of it . The players we had on the field were good enough to do the job and get us qualified . In the dying moments of the first leg Virgil jumped into Bitton and gave away a goal from a corner . Although big Virgil is supposed to be our commanding centre half worth millions , he was posted missing with the two corners they got spot on .
Malmo slaughtered us in the middle of the park , by crisp passing and movement , all our players could do was watch . Deila will have to come clean and adopt our team to different situations .
By the way are we fit?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 23:13:38
That was embarrassing. Hope we pull out the Europa league because it's only going to get worse. The teams that were lookin at vvd might think twice after that second goal. Is it just me that hinks we have taken a step back since Deila has taken over? Champions league out the window, going to loose VVD best player the night in my opinion. We need to start spending. At this rate Sevco will be on to us and we will not be havin the treble this season niether. Got some players who I think would do a job for us. Robbie Keane on loan in January, we could go for joey barton he says he would like to play for an old firm club, wee ron vlaar is a good shout. I still think we should get wee nicholson in before an EPL snaps him up. Do you think we could steal Wallace fae Rangers as our left backs are mince. team selection questionable with Mulgrew who is slower than step toe & sons cart horse

2 goals from set pieces with our height advantage!!

Disallowed goal at crucial time

Too many cards for stupid decisions meant players not 100% committed for their second challenges

Brown off the pace with Johanson

VVD and Boyata not dominating

Best player on the park was a Celtic reject. worked his a** off to prove a point

Anyway. Europa League. let's see who we get and invest to win it with VVD money

Really disappointed with tonight's performance. Didn't even have a go.
We have players who think they are better than they are.
I'm not going to slag off individuals but to be honest we had too many empty shirts tonight.
If Ronnie wants to turn it around he needs to have a look at his squad and have a massive cull.
I would keep only Gordon, Janko,Brown ,VVD Boyata Armstrong Griffiths and Forrest out of tonight's starting 11.
We were pathetic as an attacking force.
We can't defend period.
I am sick of losing to inferior teams in Europe!!
We need a big striker that is obvious. Why haven't we brought one in?

What a toothless display that was. Every year I along with the rest of our support fall a little deeper into a pit of despair at our failings in Europe against teams we should be seeing off with ease. There were no players in that squad capable of turning the game round as soon as we conceded the first goal.

We lack direction from the manager. His defensive choices and signings are uninspiring and he cannot motivate us in the one real game that matters to us in the season. I think his honeymoon period which has lasted longer than his ability ever deserved is over. He has never convinced me and this ridiculous showing cements that belief. Zonal marking is a joke from set pieces. We concede from corners and it looks terrible. Give a defender a man to mark, rough him up and simply do not let him score. When will we learn this simple art? He looked like a lost soul and never looked like he believed we could get back into the tie. The Ronny roar is now a timid whimper and he has been found out. Not good enough.

It is my boys first game at Celtic Park on Saturday and it's going to be like a morgue. What a fantastic intro I am taking him to. We live in England and despite all the money in the EPL the one thing I could offer him was a great atmosphere with a big crowd. I don't think this will be the case on Saturday. I was looking forward to seeing his face, but what a damp squib this occasion will be.

No fight, no pride, no inspiration and another season of Sunday games. The players and staff need to ask whether they are good enough to represent our once fantastic club. Personally, I think 3 or 4 are good enough, the rest are a shambles.

I know we are all hurting, but this is way beyond pathetic. The future is not bright and anyone who thinks it is is simply delusional.

Gutted doesn't even come close. We weren't robbed, we were simply outplayed by a team that should fear us and we didn't even come up with the bare minimum requirement for a Celtic team.fight

Fans should now stay away as it's the only way to change things.

Every man in their team did their job and just wanted it more than us. We can look at the disallowed goal obviously but if we're honest we've beaten ourselves with that late goal at CP. However what else can we expect as that is the level that RD is allowed to buy in from.

PL and the Celtic Board please sit up and take notice if you want our team to succeed the we need to buy players of a higher quality and yes that means you have to spend money,

25 Aug 2015 21:28:47
@ cprs1 I have to agree, but another problem is our signing policy. Once again we are very naive and need a couple of older heads in the team. It is years now since we have had a player who can hold the ball up and calm things down. It shows when vvd believes that he is better than he is. As one of our best players, he should never be getting booked for time wasting in the first half and we are not good enough at this level to allow him or his fellow centre half to go rampaging up the park. I understand that izzy is not as strong defending as he is going forward but mulgrew for Christ sake? On top of all this, we now will not get our targets in so I won't be surprised if we go out of the Europa league too.

What's the point in having two strikers on when we don't create chances, the midfield was non existent, the passing deplorable ,the defending least said the better, but this is where we are at the moment, and for the forseeable future.Scottish football is not an attraction for any half decent player.Im not surprised we were beaten 1st rotten away from home,2nd that defence will always concede goals, sorry for the rant.killy

Johnny

Can you stop playing that tune as it is getting old?

Malmo have brought through a few decent youngsters so transfer fee = 0. They have also taken a few experienced players on free transfers, a thing we never do as there is no sell on value as all we seem to care about is buying a turd and trying to polish it up.

The only way we are going to get out of this current situation is to get rid of the dross and buy in a few decent players.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 22:02:12
NiallH you can look for excuses all you want. These are professional football players that got outfought, outplayed and had no idea how to move the ball quick enough to cause any team a problem. So what's your solution? Sell the entire squad and buy a new team. We brought in RD who talks a great game but so far has deliverd nothing. Malmo have brought through a few youngsters, well maybe but so what. They wouldn't get £20 mill if they sold the entire team. as a team we are awful!

Forrest is having his best game for a long. long time, but he can't do it on his own. The rest of the midfield that were rested on Saturday are way off the pace and need to wake up!
Although Izzaguire is suspect defensively, we clearly miss his link up play and threat with Armstrong and Johansen, Bitton and Brown need to stamp their authority before it's too late for tears.

It was a poor goal to lose with Gordon and VVD failing to dominate
and we do look shaky at the back, but that's been usual for weeks.
Bitton scored a perfectly good goal - or at least a clear penalty, but once again - as I feared - we have a 'fussy' (dodgy) referee and what are the extra officials there for?!
Anyway, at half time we are out of the tournament and basically, look second best.
This is where RD can make a name for himself - one way or the other.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2015 19:34:42
RD clearly realises (like the support) that Ambrose and Izzy are poor defensively, but unfortunately we are a bit thin on the ground for quality defenders and the replacements have their weak points too.
Playing for a draw, is too dodgy in my opinion as we cannot afford to invite them on and keep a clean sheet - as we have been letting goals in every week lately.
We must play our normal game, keep the ball, create a few chances and take one or two.
All we need is total concentration, a very good performance all over the pitch and a half decent referee.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2015 18:54:58
Suppose with Mulgrew on the other side over Izzy, CM can tuck in and allow Janko to get up and get involved with Forrest. Likewise Armstrong on the other side of midfield. Probably going to see us go down the right quite a bit now. Forrest already knows he can torment their left back. He'll be an outlet and a threat. Time to step up now Jamesy.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 12:42:53
Assuming Lustig doesn't make it tonight, who should get the nod at right back? Its a tough choice. The inexperienced Janko or the error prone Ambrose? Given we are trying to defend a lead I don't think its a night for Janko as he's looked poor positionally in the games he's played, hopefully he'll add that to his game. I guess that means I think Ambrose should start ahead of him, unfortunately. But there will be 10 other players on the park, so if we don't get through this tie it won't be due to the fault of an individual. I think we will though, 2-1 to Hoops tonight!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2015 13:55:04
In that situation I'd be forced to agree and go with Effin Ambrose.

Think we'll see Lustig start though. If he's fit enough to travel and be in contention then he should be fit enough to start.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Aug 2015 14:37:54
I would love to see lustig start too, but if he does, surely there's a chance he'll break down again, I honestly don't think we can risk it, think ambrose will probably start, and hopefully he'll keep it simple & concentrate for 90 mins

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 14:50:29
I would rather we started with 10 men than let ambrose anywhere near the team! Can't believe there's even a chance of this guy getting near the team for such a massive game! How many chances is this guy going to get honestly! It's like giving the other team a goal of a start when he plays!

Agree4 Disagree2

25 Aug 2015 14:55:22
If he's even 60%-70% fit I'd risk him. Get the game won and take him off after an hour. At 2-0 up with 30 mins to go surely Ambrose couldn't make 3 errors!

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Aug 2015 15:16:45
Ambrose was in the team that beat Barcelona and got through to the last 16 so he has the ability when he screws the nut. That European campaign showed the best and worst he has to offer. If he starts tonight there will never have been a better time to step up and shut us all up. It's 50/50 which Efe shows up though, unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Aug 2015 16:42:20
Honestly anyone wanting Mulgrew in the team is off their head, are people forgetting about his performances last year? Two penalties in one game? Ambrose hasn't even managed that yet the stick he receives is shocking. He is nowhere near as bad as is made out, I agree he isn't a RB however imo he should be 2nd choice CB alongside VVD. Boyata and Mulgrew are worse imo than Ambrose. People really need to get off the guys back Mulgrew has been more culpable in goals we've conceded than Ambrose over the years. Mulgrew, just like Stokes time is up at the club. We should be moving both on over the coming transfer windows.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 17:25:41
To talk about playing with 10 men rather than playing Ambrose is pure shite . Ambrose like other defenders makes mistakes . The culprits for the biggest mistakes in Europe this year 2015 , has been Gordon and Virgil and we would be stupid to drop either of them . Tonight is certainly not a night to experiment with Boyata at right back
Whoever Deilia picks we need to back the team , get the good vibes going .

Hope this isn't true, not good enough imo scoring record is poor and seems injury prone. Said it before but still think we'll bring in Soriano should we beat Malmo tonight.

He's hardly played for Salzburg this season and has been on the bench a lot, they're beginning to downsize as the owners are now starting to turn their attention to their other project RB Leipzig in Germany selling all Salzburgs best players in the process over the last year. He'll be 30 next month and has a good 2-3 years left in him. Supposedly desperate to play in CL Group Stages and if he was willing to move to Austria I'm sure he'll be willing to move to Scotland as well. He's spoke very highly of Celtic in the past and appreciates the size of our club and history.

25 Aug 2015 15:02:06
I'm getting more and more disillusioned with our scouting system, for a club of our size and global exposure.
I thought we had sources in Asia, Africa and Europe - and particularly Scandinavia, where RD should have a knowledge.
The recent signings have all come from Scotland and I do not have a problem with that, as long as we are going for the very best - time will tell?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2015 17:31:55
What level of the barrel can we expect to be trawling around . The secret for us is to pick up players that perform better when they are with us . Sometimes it works , big Victor , Virgil and Griffiths and sometimes the new players come in and bomb . That maybe our scouts chose the wrong target or maybe the player decided to enjoy life in Glasgow off the field rather than doing his best in training and at matches .
