I think we will see off Killie this week and the pressure will ease and allow us an easy run in. Had we lost to Sevco, which on the 2nd half against 10 men looked likely, we would be under serious pressure now. Shows how important the correct choices (manager and player recruitment) will be in the summer. They will probably go bust trying to stop us but we must push the boat out also and resting on our laurels will bite us. Harper looks the best if the youths btw.

Better team won, they played the more composed football
If you can't defend a set piece you are not going to win.
I was impressed by our goalkeeper, he was outstanding.
The American Harper looks a big talent and also Dembele has a massive future in the game. I was disappointed in oxo, he never got passed their number 2 all night and he didn't look interested. Hopefully we can win the Glasgow cup to make up for tonight.

Agreed Leon, they looked pretty decent. We had one or two good individuals but didn’t look as organised as them and gave away possession to easily. I thought Okoflex looked ok.

Having a quick look at our squad (I know this has been done to death, but wanted some opinion on what we do with the next window. Looking at the squad, it potentially needs some reasonably major surgery.

GK Bain
GK Gordon (Likely to leave)
GK De Vries (End of contract)

CB Simunovic
CB Ajer
CB Hendry (Should leave)
CB Compper (Should leave)
CB Benkovic (Back to Leicester)
CB Boyata (End of contract)

LB KT
RB Ralston (Clearly not rated)
LB Izzy (End of contract)
RB Lustig (End of contract)
RB Toljan (Back to Dortmund)
RB Gamboa (End of contract)

CM Broony
CM McGregor
CAM Rogic
CAM Christie
CM Ntcham (Doesn’t look interested)
CM Bitton (Should leave)
CM Mulumbu (Should leave)
CM Kouassi (Should leave)
CM Allan (End of contract)

LW Hayes
LW Arzani
LW Morgan
LW Oko-flex
LW Sinclair (End of contract)

RW Forrest
RW Johnstone
RW Shved
RW Burke (Back to West Brom)

CF Eddie
CF Griff (Will he be the same player?
CF Bayo (Can he even play? )
CF Weah (Back to PSG)

In my opinion then, we need;
GK - a good backup for Scott Bain
CB x2 - First choice and backup.
LB - With Tierney’s injury worries, a solid backup.
RB - first choice (would keep Lustig as backup) .
CM - If Ntcham is sold.
CF - Weah? May need two though depending on Griff/ Bayo status.

We are painfully short at the back and overloaded on the wings, but if this season has taught us anything is that the backup players should be of good quality and hungry to make an impact.

{Ed007's Note - Sinclair has another year to run on his contract, he signed a 4-year deal when he joined.}

Where do I start? Your post is full of nonsense opinions most of which I disagree with. Major surgery my arse. There isn’t a team in Britain outside the EPL that would be disappointed to start next season with most of that squad. We’ll add a few here and there but no need for panic.

Every year we have some fans calling for massive rebuilds . We can't do that and we shouldn't . We must promote players from within . I know some people have their mind made up by watching a single match .
Scouting has become so easy, it isn't long ago since scouts had to travel all over Britain& further a field and concentrate on just the one player and watch every move and do that over several games . Now it seems all we have to do is watch a bit of a match and decide.

ED007 did you see the Neil Lennon press conference today?
He started off by saying he was in Paris on Tuesday when he heard the sad news about Billy McNeill.
Maybe I am reading too much into this but I got impression he was over there planning for next season, either trying to get PSG to extend Weah's loan deal or maybe looking to get one or two other PSG promising young players on loan, maybe even seeing a player or players for himself.
What is your take on things ED007?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I doubt the people at PSG know who Neil Lennon is and he definitely wouldn't be talking to them about Weah. He was over watching the Ligue 2 game between Paris FC and Valenciennes.}

Ed007 Do you actually know that N L was watching Ligue 2 game, or were you just a little bit sarcastic.

{Ed007's Note - Sarcastic - moi? You've hurt my feelings, Chris. He was with Thierry Laurey at the game but while he was over in La Ville Lumiere he also took the opportunity to do a photo shoot for the 2020 Neil Lennon calendar.
Maybe he was over there for a job interview.}

26 Apr 2019 10:16:03
I didn't know Thomas Tuchel was leaving Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I do think Tuchel will leave PSG as the owners want a more high profile manager, that may be Mourinho.}

An other legend of the game has left this world although the word Legend seems small in this case. a giant amongst giants his name will live long in the memory of all around the world. His tales and songs will be chanted through out the years to come. An icon for many big Billy to some but for thoughts who called him husband and dad my thoughts goes out to use the most at this sad time. Cause you have lost the most my thoughts and wishes to the McNeil family.

Foolish post of the month . I said after the game against them that Celtic didn't need to win another game to win the league. Nothing has happened to change my mind . For them to win league they would have to win all their games . They haven't ever went on such a run in the SPL . Obviously I want and expect Celtic to win their remaining four games and stress their superiority again .
Eight in a row is a certainty.

How anyone can think Lennon is the way forward is beyond me. Sure he's a celtic man but that doesn't mean he's a great manager. We need someone who can take us forward. I will be the most nervous I have ever been at the beginning of a season if Lennon takes over and we all know that's what Lawwell wants.

Lawwell wants to get his finger out and get a top manager in again. We need to move forward not backwards. We had a chance to put the rangers to bed and we didn't take it. Watch us slip backwards slowly. Either way whoever comes in must be backed. A top DOF appointed and the youth team invested in a lot further. Three things we don't have and are critical for our future success.

As the season reaches the end the mess we will be in is nothing short of embarrassing We should getting ready for equaling 9 in a row with stability and real trust in the management structure Well sorry we will be without a manager and half a team leaving euro qualifying which is not our strong point
How did we end up in this situation?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 13:25:15
If we don't have a good system of work in place then great managers and players are less likely to come here.

We operate as a European minnows level selling club.

So why would any non Celtic related, high level manager come here?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 13:26:07
We can't keep the same team forever. That group of players have done fantastic, the trophy room backs that theory up. The situation is players get older and we replace them with younger players, that's it in a nutshell. No situation and no drama.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 14:29:06
Daviebhoy67 how is it embarrassing? BRs timing was deplorable but we've been lucky that Lennon has taken over (hopefully) in the interim. Just because we, the fans, don't know who is in the frame doesn't mean it's a disaster. We'll effectively win the league on Saturday which takes the pressure off until the cup final.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 14:53:30
Obviously we are in transition - both in managerial and player status, because of the situation with NL and the amount of players either at the end of their Celtic career, or loan expiration?
Even if Dodgers had stayed, we would be rebuilding the squad.
The fact that he decided to eff-off, makes it the most important close-season since the MON appointment.
The team have been fantastic over the past 8 years but it's very clear we need investment in real quality in key areas to complement the young talent that will be here for the foreseeable future and in particular never to leave ourselves so short of 'real striking' options ever again.
I have maintained that we get behind NL and the players for the crucial 5 games still to play and I stand by that.
However, I also believe in never going back and when we appointed BR, we made a statement of intent and followed through with trophy after trophy and a confidence felt by everyone involved in Celtic.
The bar was set higher than any recent managerial appointment and The Board must learn from that and keep the position up-market.

Relax KenLikeEh
At least Lawwell and Co haven't made the same knee jerk mistake that Man Utd have. Solskjaer came in 'until the end of the season' and after a dozen games and the luckiest of all games against PSG they wet their panties and gave him the job permanently. Since then they've lost 7 out of 9 games in all competitions.
I don't think we'll make the same mistake and I don't think Lenny will be our next permanent manager. I believe he's there to (hopefully) steady the ship and win the Treble, I suspect that'll be the end of his reign and I think deep down he knows it too even though nothing has been said so let's not be getting too dramatic about something that hasn't happened. HH.

25 Apr 2019 15:46:45
I just feel like lawwell will get his way with Lennon and we will all be stuck with him for the years to come. I just don’t see him as the way forward! If ED is right and people higher up in the club do not want Lennon then hopefully Lawwell will listen to them and bring in the top quality manager we need. I am not confident tho as I assume he wants to be in control of the club as his ego is sky high.

9 points clear with 4 games left, in a cup final, probable treble on the cards with what is probably one of the youngest squads in European football, no debt, money in the bank and it’s embarrassing? I believe Neil will get the job and will do us proud. Don’t understand the negativity towards him at all. Then again, I don’t understand any of the negativity we’ve had in the last three seasons as we’ve won every domestic trophy put in front of us. The word ‘pish’ springs to mind yet again.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 17:00:46
to Be honest COYBIG it’s that kind of complacency that sees us go backwards. All easy saying that but we’ve been going backwards since last season. We should have won the league weeks ago. We should be 20 points clear not 9. We should have reached the group stages of the champions leauge. There’s a bit overhaul needed and it should be dealt with now.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 17:22:05
I don’t see it as complacency, Ken. I feel we need to recognise the good situation that we’re in. Yes, some players will leave and regardless of how many, we should invest in players to strengthen, but we must only do it if we think that the player genuinely improves the squad. We don’t need to bring in 10 players to placate the panty wetters. We don’t need a marquee appointment as a manager. NL did very well last time round with what was probably a weaker squad. I agree we should’ve finished the job by now but Neil is working with someone else’s players playing someone else’s system. Let’s get behind the team and bring in another treble and trust the guys that are running the club cos they’re doing pretty well as far as I can see.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 18:58:25
I agree the squad isn’t far away on transfer aspects. I’ve voiced my opinion on here multiple times saying that we are only 5ish players away in the Ntcham style category from a challenging Europa league team. 5 players around the 5m mark over 2 season is achievable and should be the direction we take. Once those platers develop and are on the verge of a sale we should be entering the group stages of champions leauge no problem. The issue is getting a good manager. That’s the real issue. We have connections with big teams who are willing to sell some of there projects for the right fee alone with 2 year loan deals which do benefit us highly. We need to set the standard higher and that’s where the issue lies. We have Ajer, Tierney, McGregor, Edouard, Ntcham and Forrest All capable of playing Europa leauge football to a high standard. Now we need to add to the weak positions with similar calibre players. That’s the dream for me.

Celtic are not going backwards . B R had a freak invincible first season . He knew that was a one off and said it wouldn't be repeated . He spent the rest of his time here proving how brilliant he was . Since his first season Celtic have levelled off good enough to win everything domestically but rather stagnant.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 22:09:21
We have gone backwards since that season that is a fact. Results show that and dropping points in silly fixtures when previously we wouldn’t backs that up. We’ve had a bad season on our terms regardless of the trophies. Should have been much more convincing. Brushing the leaves away doesn’t do much when 10IAR is at stake.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 22:49:49
Totally agree, OMC. Sinclair also had an unbelievable season then and no one could ever keep that up. We’ve done incredibly well to keep the run of trophies going and depending on how the last four games go, should end up with a similar points tally and goal difference to what we normally have when we win the league. The big difference between those other years and now is the age of the squad and the fact that most of our key players are on decent length contracts.

Can I make my simple suggestion as to how the whole Celtic family could pay tribute to the late Billie McNeill .
Billie was our number 5 and he led us to five trophies in 1967 .
Our first team have 5 matches left this season and they must make sure they win all 5 .
Our Board can give every player who plays a part in any game £10,000, so anyone who plays in all 5 games gets £50,000.
Us fans can sing the loudest positive Celtic songs that was ever heard . Songs followed by cheers and applause and a new song every five minutes .
Let everyone know just how much we appreciate the great Billie McNeill.
He was ours, he is ours and he will always be ours.

Give already overpaid players £10,000 more to play in one game, what about all the players give all their match fees in the next game to the food banks as a tribute to Billy McNeil.

why give players £10K? (for doing the job they are hired to do and well paid for it)
nearly 2 hours of new songs every five minutes!
Sorry mate. I get you are probably feeling a wee bit sentimental about the Big man but maybe you need to rest and re-think
And Billy himself would be the first one to remind everyone. Memories are nice and tributes are appreciated but there is still a league to be won and the most important thing is the 3 points. Getting those would be the thing he would appreciate most. H. H.

If our players need extra cash as an incentative to win the treble treble then i'd prefer they found another club to play for. People like Cesar played for the badge and getting a wage for doing what he loved was an extra. Players in this era get paid more than enough and there's fans all around the world paying a fortune to follow the club and would happily play for free. They shouldn't get an extra penny.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 10:49:59
Stan is spot on. If players need a financial incentive to create history then we would be better off without them.
I think if nothing else it's quite insulting to the current squad when most of them have won 7 trophies in a row, to suggest that only extra money will inspire them.
The likes of Kieran Tierney and Scott Brown deserve a bit more respect than that.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2019 11:39:42
We should ask the players to drink FIVE ALIVE before entering the pitch and then in each of the FIVE games that remain to score FIVE goals, two of which will obviously be at minute FIVE and minute FIFTYFIVE.

On a more serious not, I know Ed has organized collections through Just Giving for different causes (I think) especially the food bank at Christmas perhaps we could raise money, in Billy's name, for a charity, chosen by the McNeill family.

Sorry to annoy some of you, my intention was that everyone and every part of the great Celtic family would play an United role in paying homage to our Billy McNeil . I wanted to ensure from the Board down every part would have a role . I would be happy enough if anyone could come up with something to link the Board into this tribute.
I know many of the team are over paid, but some of them are demonstrating a loyalty to Celtic and could earn more money elsewhere .
I hope we can come up with an idea that allows whole club to demonstrate their love admiration and respect for Billy . Our tribute cannot be confined to Green Brigade.

Stan, I will probably be hammered for saying this, but Jock Stein told one of his friends in the media the reason why the team under performed in the 1970 European Cup Final was a row over bonuses . As Billy McNeil organised everything for the team, he is likely to have played a leading role .
For the sake of honesty and fair play many Celtic players were very angry with J Sein's claim and said they were too professionally to allow money to interfere with their performances.
