Evening folks, was just going through some YouTube vids and came upon an old fav of mines the girl singing about Tommy Burns with footage off his playing days, since I'm 40 and this was my era for earliest memory of the hoops, I got to thinking about some post a while back about who would be in our favourite team and I can't recall anyone sticking tb in there, maybe because of our recent history of foreign players we maybe overlooked some of the players from the past, man the guy could play football hail hail, .

Total gentleman was Tommy Burns. I had an uncle I never met, who died aged 10 from leukaemia. Tommy Burns used to visit him and other sick children every week. He was the model footballer and some of these prima-donna footballers should take example from Tommy about how to conduct themselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Not just footballers mate, if any young men in our support need someone to look up to then Tommy Burns is that man. I'm not sure what video TFB is talking about, here's the CATB song:

And here's the TB Story:

26 Apr 2015 01:34:00
Heres a story. Probably mean f-all to everybody else but means a huge deal to me.

At about 7/8, during an autumn, I was up in Glasgow midweek with my dad and uncle. Despite the absolute pishing rain I got took down the London Road to try and catch the players. First recognisable face that came in was a certain current JC. Upon being encouraged to ask for an autograph myself, I was, according to those with me, pretty much 'told to get to F'. Almost naturally I sobbed like a bairn. Next up was Tommy Burns. Seeing a crying lad in the rain he came up and asked what was wrong. In not so many words my dad and uncle told TB that a perm was more important than a young fan. Within minutes Tommy was out presenting me with a fully signed team shirt.

My point, within minutes of being in my life, presented me with one of my most cherished. Guess that was just the man he was. Which is why I find so much of his memory endearing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I love hearing stories like that, TB and Paul McStay set the bar for me, that's the standard of a man worthy of wearing that strip. I wasn't lucky enough or good enough to wear the jersey and the people who do need to recognise what it means and how lucky they are.
That's why I go off on one about players dragging the name of the club through the mud, and I don't mean gutter media spun rubbush like Scott Brown but when it gets into courts, hopefully the recent culprits have learnt a lesson.
In 20 years time when Leigh Griffiths writes an autobiography he will say the best thing to happen to him was meeting RD.}

26 Apr 2015 09:25:56
Think it could be why I'm a Celtic fan Ed. Besides the obvious beauties of the club it's between that and getting a bar scarf covered in 50s and 60s badges off an old p*ssed bloke on my first trip to CP. Growing up in England I could have had my head turned. For that even I owe TB something.

Hi ed the video I watched was of Kelly's Stevenson and Joe OSullivan video starts with TB scoring against rangers then footage of his playing days and behind scenes ( mac the knife ) until his funeral , very poignant moment in our history . I showed my friend whom I've introduced to put team this season had her at all the European games and league cup games so she's seen the lows of cl failure to cup wins to her fav night against inter Milan , now wants a season ticket Haha , just shows how the club gets a hold off you from the start , but when I spoke off Tommy burns and what he meant to us all , she watched the video I'm talking about and in tears she said she had wished she had became a supporter twenty years ago , just goes to show the effect Celtic and the late Tommy burns has on people

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've been looking for it since I got up but I can't find anything except the single being for sale on iTunes. I did find this about the making of the song though:

26 Apr 2015 14:30:48
Sorry ed , I just remembered it was in Celtic fc I watched it but unfortunately being technologically challenged I can't upload it šŸ˜³

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No worries mate, I'll try and track it down and if anyone else has a link then please send it in.}

26 Apr 2015 14:49:08
Again ed , I've found the video in question but only way j can see to share it with anyone would be through , any ideas of another way??

{Ed007's Note - Success!! I can't remember this at all....

I'll keep trying to find the correct video of the girl in recording studio singing as the video of him playing , but thought it was a cracking song

Well done Hendo, 3 goals already in Norway. This is great news for celtic, I knew Rosenberg would have been great experience but never expected any real impact. Time celtic ditch the dead wood and give our lads the chance to flourish. i'd rather see a young player develop through our youth system than spend 2-3million for a foreign name any day!

25 Apr 2015 22:06:44
Awe come off it , scoring a few goals in Norway doesn't mean , young Henderson is a star. The FAC that he has only started one game so far would be worrying .
When Norwegian football was rated higher than now Bradbatt could score regularly .
When we signed him , he was definitely better at missing than scoring .

I thought Henderson was progressing well at Celtic , but he is away now and seems to have found something that he missed at Celtic .

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Apr 2015 22:30:28
Chris02 I think problem with brattbakk at time was style of play. i'm sure in Norway at the time, there was a lot of long ball tactics. Just didn't fit our style of play.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 22:55:47
Chris

If this was Forrest you would be creaming in your drawers.

Henderson is only 18 and has taken on a massive challenge for one so young. The fact he is doing well, scoring a few goals and looks to have settled very well in Norway should be applauded.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 23:21:06
I never said Henderson was a star I was merely giving due credit to a young lad who made a bold move abroad, regardless of the standard of Norwegian football( which is on a par with scottish football ) and stating that this is a good thing for Celtic.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 23:53:28
This is invaluable experience and hopefully first team football for Henderson as he is down the pecking order! I'd like to see more of our youth team on loan in the SPL so we can see closely how the perform! I hope HENDO gets the invaluable experience to help him progress!

26 Apr 2015 08:17:26
Our recent success in the Norwegian market hasn't been too shabby. Lustig on a free and Johansen. To put it into context we have brought in 4 loans from England and only 1 has been nearly as successful a move as Lustig or Johansen.

26 Apr 2015 08:53:38
I can be with you on the norwegian league not being the best (its quite a bit different now than for ten-fifthteen years ago), but Bratbakk was a really good player. He was one of Rosenborg's best players the years they where outstanding in CL, also scoring Rosenborg's goal AC milan to go to the quarterfinal.
Then again, he never excelled in the nationa lteam. But one of the country's best goalscorer of all times.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 09:05:27
Rosenborg's coach also said that he really didn't have a spot for Henderson when he came there, but he must have played well to get into the team. Rosenborg has a great team atm and plays really gold football to, so I think he has surprised the lot up there. wouldn't say its tha much of a difference from the norwegian to the scottish league atm, bar Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 10:22:27
Chris02, the norwegian league is mutch better now than in the 90's, bar Rosenborg. We have had an awfull ten year periode of getting rid of the long balls and we finally starting to see tecknically great talented players popping up in every bit of the league.
NFF has sent our top league coaches on study trips to big clubs to study their ways to train etc etc. Ronny was sent to Dortmund, Barcelona and City. Three other managers was sent to other clubs and they all had meetings with the NFF (norwegian football federation) together so they could give all the other managers some input to improve the league.
We have also started to improve our youth coaches and managers by having coaches from the belgian youthsystem (for the last 15 years) to teach our coaches the same modell.
Ive go as far as to say as the norwegian league is the one to look out for ovwr the next ten fifthteen years or so.

If Henderson comes back to Celtic next season ( and that's a big if with the company he is keeping ) he will be the first player we have loaned out and come back and played well for us.
I suppose there always has to be a first .

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2015 12:38:06
That is the point of a succesful loan the player that gets loaned out comes back better and that is what we have tried to do before with guys like Bangura, Pukki ect however it becomes clear when they cannot do it at a lesser team, they are not going to do it for us. Henderason has been getting odd games for us and was loaned out to get more games under his belt in a different setting. There are no IF's he will come back and he will be a good player, no great player for Celtic. The boy already looks class at 19. Just because we have only loaned out pish players does not make Henderson's loan any less worthwhile

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 17:49:34
So Tompo , every player we have loaned out in the last ten years or so has been pushed .

25 Apr 2015 21:32:20
Sorry i'm struggling to understand why some people are panicing about league. Aberdeen have no chance of catching us. 8 points difference might to seem much, but at this stage its a huge amount stacked in our favour. Means we would need to lose 3 of our games for Aberdeen to overtake us, which is not going to happen

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2015 22:09:11
DN30 . The league is won , just waiting for the final formalities , if we were to slip up Aberdeen have already shown this season that they slip up when it appears they have a wee chance .

Big game tomorrow, 3 points are a must! Iv been saying for weeks now that Aberdeen won't lay down. If anything they are trying harder.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

25 Apr 2015 21:02:23
But strange mate. Why should they lay down. And of course there going to give there lives to win a championship. No anti celtic thing just a pro aberdeen thing for them.

I see young Liam Henderson scored a double in a 4-1 win tonight congratulations to the young lad it's seems he is finally showing the promise we all thought he had hopefully will be competing for a first team place at Celtic next season

@Rayman enjoyed your post last night and it has set me thinking (yes I know dangerous ground lol)might have something later on. poor Chris 02 takes pelters from us all but to be honest I applaud him, if he disagrees with something (usually ANYTHING I say) he will come on and explain why, I prefer that to the anonymous disagree clickers who have nothing to offer, at least with Chris you can debate with him, finally good on our ED007 who allows us all our eccenticities which makes for a more interesting forum on here with all the diverse opinions and jokes.

value is?

Personally, a think he is a better player and prospect than Wanyama was and we got Ā£12 mill for him he will still have two year left on his deal in the summer and I think we all more or less feel he will leave

If you look at the EPL again I think there only a few even there that are better than him being Kompany, Cahill & Mangala the next best IMO is Jageilka @ Everton as far as am concerned the top 4 could all do with a good CH maybe except City

Am hoping for at least the same amount for VVD as Wanyama and just wondered what everyone else actually thought?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Apr 2015 12:37:28
Manhala cost circa Ā£32m. Can he do what VVD can? No. But I think if Celtic want to get into serious money then VVD has to be performing wet at CL level. Somebody is only worth what a club is willing to pay. But to put a figure on it. I'd want at least Ā£15m.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 12:45:57
Sorry a was talkin about VVD but must have deleted first bit (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 17:35:22
Virgil hasn't exactly covered himself in glory when we played reasonably good teams .
Against Inter , he didn't do very well and although he may have got a harsh yellow card , he gave the referee the option of the 2nd yellow .
I think Virgil needs to show more strength and better concentration before he gets his dream move to a top four / five team in the EPL . The EPL giants regard the SPL as something like the English League one and have little interst in signing on the basis of his Scottish League form . At the moment I can't see us gettingĀ£10m

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 19:47:46
Chris02 I think Ā£8m for VVD is what we are looking at. Sickens me to think he could go to say southampton and immediately be valued at least Ā£16m without kicking a ball.

I think we should be aiming for at least CL stages, that way we can say "well he played well against x y and z". That way we can drive value up.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 21:25:34
A think at least double digit millions , it has to be IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 21:58:05
Jamiebhoy I hope club digs their heels in and take clubs to cleaners for transfer fees.

Sky Tv has well and truly f*cked the game and some of the fees are shocking for players who perhaps are not as good as some of our players, all because they play in EPL.

Makes you wonder, how much could celtic get for VVD if we were in EPL and would he want to leave

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 22:13:20
Dan 30 . Where did you pluck the Ā£8m from .
I didn't think Celtic have declared their valuation for him . Virgil has said he wants to go to one of the better EPL clubs , surely if one of them were after him a double digit transfer fee should be the least expected

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Apr 2015 11:58:54
DN30 mate as a said there are 20 teams in that EPL 2 CH's in each team (at least)& a think there at tops only 5 ish better than VVD IMO again spot on if we were in the EPL a think he said as much on thurs or frid he would have no need to leave

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 07:39:38
With gms and Armstrong been key signings from anothr Scottish team who else in the Scottish leagues does everyone think would make a good signing once we get rid of all the deadwood.I think Christie from caley thistle Rooney from Aberdeen and at a push Wilson from heart's but they we only be squad players imo

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Apr 2015 10:25:29
Ut is at a push gordy for me. But from the SPFL I'd say Ryan Jack but we have Henderson. I know he's off to Aberdeen but G.Shinnie has been great this season, particularly against us.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 11:10:49
Rooney would go missing in our squad! Christie has potential but I'd like mcginn for back up for Scott brown I think he could develop well with our coaching staff!

25 Apr 2015 22:14:42
Develop what we have and if we can sign young players of a higher standard than is in the SPL
