see the manager is now talking about his complete team, saying defence is strong. One centre back is on loan and the other wants out so there goes the defence

Only Brown in middle seems to realise that you are allowed to bring / pass the ball forward. Biton reminds me of a spirit level- everything straight, ie sideways

Matthews very inconsistent, some very poor passes today

no penetration up front, people talk of how hard it is to get through a packed defence but the least strikers can do is move around, create triangles etc for quick, snappy interpassing

none of that kind of football intelligence evident in this celtic team

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Jeeze, what do you want? Defence is not too bad with four shut outs in a row. Biton is there to protect the back line. Matthews was excellent last two games and not as bad as you seem to think today. Honest to god what do some people expect from us?

Agree3 Disagree2

Biton plays short simple passes - usually sideways - like Peter Grant and Lennon used to do; but my main concern is he shirks a tackle - but Brown and Johansen (when he's back) make up for that.
The team is settled in as much as the rest of the season goes, with a bit of 'horses for courses' here and there, but there will be a rethink next season when the loanees (both in and out) and the sick-notes are sorted out along with any other required transfer business - which could be major changes, depending on the season we have?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Can't really argue with any of that, Jimbo. Remember Biton is only 23, I'd like to see him getting a good run in the team to see how he progresses. I certainly think he's proving that he's a good squad player who can hold his own, at least domestically, when needed to step in.
He doesn't look too confident in himself though and an extended run in the team could do him the world of good where he might become more adventurous with his play and more tenacious in the tackle, if he can find that confidence.
If Ambrose was doing the job Biton is doing we'd be delighted.}

Fwiw do you not think club is aware of cb situation?

Agree0 Disagree0

People slate Biton about his passing he does pass forward too, NL would never make a pass forward always sideways or back yet everyone sung his praises

Didn't play well but a win is a win. Scrapping a one nil win is a sign of champions and that's what we will be at the end of the season, still in all competitions, can't complain. Trust Delia 100%

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Great start to the new year, played 4, won 4 with 4 clean sheets.

3 very good performances and 1 very poor performance today. Stokes and Johansen were missed today IMO and I really hope we get Armstrong in as Henderson had another stinker, I know he is young but today showed he like McGregor should be used sparingly.

Agree1 Disagree0

Hardly a stinker mate. not at his best but never hid for one minute. Also never got much help from a poor ref who seemed intent on penalising him every challenge

Agree0 Disagree0

GJ, I thought he did to be honest as did a few but he was constantly loosing the ball and misplacing passes.

I think home games should be his game time just to build confidence and composure.

Agree1 Disagree0

Was a tough game for Henderson they had 10 behind the ball when we had it and as soon as we got near the penalty area there was 2 or 3 pressing us to get the ball back. Its a big step up from the development squad to SPL it was only last week everyone was saying how well he did and he needs a run in the team now after one bad game we need to sign a replacement

Not pretty but another win and another clean sheet. We never created the amount of chances we did midweek but still won more comfortably than 1-0 would normally suggest. Watching I thought the referee was bloody awful, I stand to be corrected by some one watching on TV as at the game it is hard to gauge. My gripe does not concern any outright blatantly bad decisions, more an accumulation of very poor calls. It seemed to me that EVERY time two players clashed they got the shout, I would love to see the foul count.

The ref also booked Broony for a high challenge, despite their player being nowhere near a connection, yet ignored a far worse challenge from their keeper in the box which should have received the same treatment. I thought we missed Stefan's movement as he creates a lot of space against teams who don't really want to play, but sadly some on here expect us to batter every team and play like Real Madrid every game. Sometimes the proper attitude wins you games as well guys.

Finally. Will you get off Ronny's back with the after match carry on, and that's what it is a carry on, with the away fans. What is it that annoys Celtic fans with a Celtic manager, who has taken enough stick for TEN Celtic managers, celebrating with us? Today he was simply applauding the away support when the crowd starting cheering for the Ronny Punch! Jeeze stop reading the tabloids and listening to the haters. We have enough people wishing us, and Ronny, to fail. He has stated it is a thank you for our travelling support, this Punch is an organic thing by the support.I find it ridiculous people on here moaning about it.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - We committed 23 fouls and Ross County committed..... 5 (FIVE).

It was, again, tough watching. I didn't think we were very different midweek for the first half at least: the glaring problem is what to do with the ball at the edge of the box. We've been camped there much of the season and still don't know. That's why I think an proven attacking midfielder with vision and finesse is really what we need this window. These strikers will score if we can only find them in space.

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree with you gj
Let's be hypothetical, if it were let's say, Neil Lennon, Martin Oneil, Tommy Burns, Wim Jansen or the great Jock Stein doing what Ronnie Delia s been doing would all posters on here still be dishing out the same treatment! I think not, we d probably all be saying " gon yersel, get it right up them " to all the folk who don't like it , keep it up Ronnie

Agree2 Disagree2

ED007: Thanks for the stat mate I knew it would be ridiculously biased in their favour. Some talk at the game was that Commons will sign a new deal any sniff your end?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No mate, as far as I know it's still a stalemate.}

Hi ed I think the amount of fouls awarded against Celtic today was down to an average referee I was shouting at the tv with some of the fouls given against us, to be honest a few of them were tackles you see go unpunished in every game.just my thoughts.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, see your favourite Ms Hague has been having her say again today. Don't know if that's where the commons staying thing is coming from.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on GJ; I gave my verdict on the game/performance further down, but omitted to comment on the referee - who was absolutely atrocious.
His (and his hesitant assistants) handling of the game was one-sided and although not controversial, was indeed biased and inconsistent.
As a long time watcher of dubious officials, this guy Clancy is another one to add to the list for sure,

Agree0 Disagree0

For the small amount of fouls that was given in our favour was when he should have allowed play to carry on as we would have been through had he played advantage

Good to hear 'There's only one Neil Lennon' at Anfield today. We've all seen those plucky defensive performances before. Good show, Lenny

dreadful Celtic team, awful corner kicks, only Commons can hold it in, most passes are square / backwards, no understanding between strikers
Wouldn't be fussed if Guidetti leaves, not much more than ordinary

Believable4 Unbelievable2

The square and backwards passing is infuriating. & what Biton brings to the team is beyond me: he really doesn't seem to want the ball.

A win is a win and as far as I'm concerned. As Celtic fan we are known for supporting our team through good times and bad good football and bad that's what makes us famous fans. So let's just get behind the manager and team. People need to remember we don't have the money to buy quality we must find and create our own and this takes time.

Evening Ed and all a couple of things here Ed if you don't mind today's POTD is interesting is that something you expect to happen? I actually thought JG would put pen to paper prior to that game to give everyone a lift would still like to sign him even though he has hit a barren spell

Having highlighted this a number of weeks ago now more than ever RD's celebration is drawing attention more and more thought it was very very naughty of sly today to mention it and the Rangers game in the same thread considering they are not even covering it!

I hope naturally we win next week and a hope he goes over to us fans and just does the exact same thing! why shouldn't he? to accommodate the "bile"? ATVB JB7

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I can't remember if it was me or Ed001 that set the poll but I don't expect Commons to sign a new contract as things stand just now.}

{Ed001's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Celtic scrape a win at Ross County.

All the possession in the world isn't enough without goals! We only came away with three points due to a fortunate deflection. My opinion and many may disagree but I recon that travelling support deserved better than that, Guidetti deflated, Henderson was falling over himself constantly and lack composure, everybody get the ball to commons mentality is predictable, I like Matthews but lustig should have started he earned it! Thought izzy had a good game some of his touches and activity down the wing was good considering the tight space he had to work with. Is Johansen injured and we should not have to rely on full backs for supply into the box all the time. Bring in GMS now! Biton and brown playing the same role in midfield is ok but you can see a bit more energy in the game with Johansen in position. Sounding like a broken record "We need to bring in Armstrong" I really can't see how we can compete with inter when we rely on a fluke goal to beat the leagues worst defence and bottom club. I know some games you grind out results before you all hit me for being negative on the team.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Yeah was not a good performance but the last 4 games as a whole have been good. 4 shut outs in a row is a plus

I think griffiths/guidetti didn't work well unfortunately and we missed johansen imo. Thought izze and denayor both played well today but the rest can definitely do better.

Henderson will have poor games, he is only 18.

For me biton is a puzzle, I can't decide whether he is good or not really required in there

Agree1 Disagree1

The three points and another shut-out are the only big pluses from today in a game we dominated.
The defence can take credit for the clean sheet but to be honest, they had very little to do over the entire game and in fact Gordon had more saves to make than their goalie and that's where the negatives begin:-
To many bad touches and poor passes - not for the first time and very predictable in our play.
We were playing a very poor side and managed to create very little in clear cut chances and decent shots even though we had most of the play - including dead-ball situations.
Our strikers are very much 'hit and miss' with more emphasis on miss.
I look back at Pukki and Balde and they now look more useful than Scepovic and Guidetti?
I was actually starting to believe we were improving in performance, but not many of that team can be happy with how they played?
Missed Johansen and Stokes today in my opinion as they improve the link up play and add a bit of creativity.
Over all back on top, three points clear and I know we can play a lot better; so fair enough Bhoys.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think biton is starting to get his chance to play and having a positive influence on results there's no coincidence that he has been in the team while 4 clean sheets were kept! We missed johansen today and our 2 cb were the only two players that looked like they were willing to dribble through players! It's hard to break down a team with every man behind the ball on a small pitch! I think young Henderson even although not having the greatest of games today is showing massive amounts of potential! And some of Bitons work was tidy and skillfull if he can start to also play forward a bit more he is going to be great!

Agree1 Disagree0

Not his best game but young Henderson never hid or shied away and tried to get involved all game

Awful, Awful, Awful, Performance, usual routine under this regime, One Step Forward, 5Steps back.
Ps Rd should stop that celebrating like that, one it's Embarasing, and 2 he should not be celebrating a 1 nil victory with such as distaster performance

Believable3 Unbelievable2

24 Jan 2015 15:52:17
Not going to have a go at rd,performance was woeful but got the result! I totally agree that he needs to stop playin up to the crowds at the end of away games! If scraping to a one nil win with a deflected goal against the Certs for relegation is sumthin to celebrate then we really need to worry about the expected standard of this celtic team!

Agree2 Disagree1

Maybe shouldn't read too much into the celebration. he has said before its for the fans.

Also I would say perhaps that it was 3 steps forward, 1 step back if your going to sum it up like that. 3 great performances and then a poor one

Agree1 Disagree1

Malika what are you on about? Yes it was a poor performance but how many seasons prior have there been poor performances? 3 points is 3 points that's the main issue!

RD can celebrate whatever way he wants! it shows he has passion for club!

Agree1 Disagree1

Its the away fans that enjoy his celebration no matter the score its bringing him closer to the fans.we won ugly earlier in the season even 4 weeks ago it would have been 0-0 and uncomfortable but this was a comfortable 1-0 4 clean sheets in a row

Agree0 Disagree2

Guys, nobody on here should be surprised by that performance. All season we have been doing this. We seem to have turned a corner then we get 1 like this. It wasn't that bad though as County had no ambition and pitch doesn't exactly allow free flowing football.Positive thing for me is I now think we are improving. It has taken a while but we are getting there I hope. Unless of course our next 3/4 performances are like this 1. But my optimic side says we will kick on now and blow away opponents maybe with the exception of Inter.

Agree0 Disagree1

@DN your right it was a poor performance, just like we had on occasion the previous few seasons. So why may I ask you are defending these performances this season yet you were slaughtering them last season?

Agree1 Disagree0

Rayman your quite right to question my opinion. Point i'm making is the quality of football has been sluggish for seasons, regardless of who is in charge. Just thought opening post was unfair to single out this "regime" as it been an issue for years.

Agree1 Disagree1

Well what a day, after seeing some of those results I am even more delighted we got our win.

Do you think the Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City fans will be calling for the managers head? Or is it just Celtic fans that over react to defeats . Just saying!

Agree1 Disagree0

DN finally we agree. The performances have not been great but you can't slaughter 1 and not the other because of who the manager is. RD is growing on me, it was just the nonsense he was talking early in the season but he seems to be learning, a signing or 2 to improve the team will go a long way with the fans in my opinion.

Behave urself gordybhoy! U enjoy him jumpin about like we've just won the champions no matter what the score! Are u for real? It's not going to happen but what if the Shame some how beat us next Sunday and he jumps about at the end of the game doing that? Would that be enjoyable?

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jan 2015 18:57:28
Nothing wrong with RD showing a bit of passion.

Agree2 Disagree0

Oh ffs @ this rate you 2 (DN30 & Rayman) will need to get a room! :-) (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

The away fans demand he does it now iment if we win 1-0 6-0 if we win its just his thing dangy if we beat the shame 1-0 n does it next Sunday are you going to come on n moan or you going to think to yourself wow this guy is really taken to been a Celtic manager btw I think 4-0 for next Sunday

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jan 2015 21:40:46
I'm not moanin at all bud! I know he's doing it for the fans, and he's tryin to get that bond with the support.and there's nuthin would put a smile on my face more than him runnin about Hampden next Sunday after humpin that lot doing it! Just think there's a time and place for it,and after sneakin a win against the leagues bottom team isn't it! Hope your rite on the 4 nil :D

Agree1 Disagree0

@Jamie, no need for jealousy mate lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rayman Without being sarky it's good to see you're starting to buy into Ronnys ideas mate and say that you're seeing an improvement. I've noticed your recet posts have been a helluva lot more positive than earlier in the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

PMSL rayman :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman reason I slaughtered Lennon was absymal cup record in his tenure and last season was final straw. If Deila was same, I would be gunning for him but its not the case. Your right. We do need a few new faces

Agree0 Disagree0

A hope you never booked the room rayman @ 18) lol as you have nae chance of getting your money back :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

@Jamie. if I booked a room I wudny pay for it.wud just do a runner or go into liquidation, it appears you can get away wi not payin for things doing that lol. @AH the positivity comes from us playing better. Its that simple, if we playing good I will say, if not I will say we playin shiiit, there no need to dress it up it is what it is.Wud you rather I lie and say we brilliant when we clearly not? Believe it or not this has nothing to do with RD its just about us getting results an playing football I enjoy watching.I did not enjoy the 1st half of the season, but I startin to enjoy it now.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jan 2015 14:42:04
Absolute dire.

How Matthews, Henderson and Guidetti stayed on for the second half I'll never know. Neither should start the next game.

Good points, a win and clean sheet.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

24 Jan 2015 13:50:56
Far too pedestrian and predictable Celts; the result last night should have been motivation to blow the bottom club away, but we are very pedantic so far.
We have created very little from open play except winning two free kicks (from ideal positions).
Guidetti and Griffiths doesn't seem to be working for either player and Commons is well overdue a goal.
Ross County played the same way at Celtic Park less than a month ago so RD will have expected this.
However there is no slickness of passing and pace like we had against Motherwell - maybe due to Stokes, Johansen and Forrest missing?
Whatever the reason, once again going into a second half, we need to up the tempo and not take so many touches and shoot on sight to win the three points.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

JungleJim i'm just glad we got the 3 points no matter how we played.

Your right about Guidetti. After a promising start he has went off boil and makes you wonder if signing him permanently is a good idea

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jan 2015 15:24:29
Agreed JJ - and as usual the opposition could easily have stolen a point in the last few minutes. We struggle to penetrate these packed penalty boxes. We come up against this time and again, find a solution Ronnie, we will have many more games like this.

Agree1 Disagree0

Celticflame the solution is simple, get players in this window. Its an urgency that must be addressed immediately.

I can see GMS being brought in at last minute, but we need at least 3 players in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic were not brilliant but the Ross County players should be ashamed of themselves. If they tried as hard as they did today then maybe they would have more points. Celtic were up against a team with 11 men behind the ball at all times and the playing surface was awful. I am more than happy to get the 3 points. Hail hail.
