Think we would probably pefform better against the so called super teams, with them underestimsting us and us playing iut of our skins, rather being in a group where we would think we would have a chance against teams with a lesser reputation but who are in fact better teams.

Anyone know what time the draw will be at tomorrow, after all the awards and videos are over that seem to take forever? My biggest wish for the draw is that we get teams we haven't faced recently, so not Barca! Dortmund are the one team I really want.

A lot of talk tonight on the internet that Celtic are trying to put a deal together to get James McCarthy on loan, He is not in Evertons plans, they want to recoup the money they paid for him but might be willing to loan him out in the meantime! Not sure about this one! He's a descent player would take him on loan but wouldn't pay the money to by him!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

24 Aug 2016 21:17:38
Who would pay his wages, surely that would be the biggest stumbling block.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 21:25:58
Don't think he adds anything. The only midfield type player I want is a creator.

Another striker would be nice.

Despite the poor display from Janko, it's unlikely that he and the team will play in those conditions again with the pressure they obviously felt.

Even if we lose all 6 games it's about experience gained and the financial boost for signing the next level of player.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 21:30:43
Been told there has been an enquiry McCarthy wants to come season loan with Celtic paying 20/ 30k wages.

It's good to see our poor league relations getting a wee win fall . Hope rumours are true and they get heeee haw . Although their Β£250,000 ebt fine is still outstanding so .

On the plus side, we have banked anywhere between 22-30 mill depending on who's reporting .

For the first season in many we don't need to sell . We have invested heavily ( for a Scottish club ) in Sinclair . The team looks a full new team with just two additions and a resurgence of players who for seasons have underperformed . Like mon, Brendan has brought new found belief and a buzz .

Will the board spend? Time will tell .
Will we get a marquee signing? Think all agree Roberts is what we want .

It's a good time to be a Celtic fan and big kolos experience, professionalism and general all round leadership will allow kt to progress into a great .

And rightly so with the budget of all these teams! The champions league is lucky to have us in it again! Because there will be no where like paradise on a CL nite, and I don't care who's playing! We'll see in the next week how much BR has got a say in things! Go out and buy 2 or 3 bits of quality to give us half a chance to at least compete in the CL, or do the usual and keep the money and go with what we've got! Would love a RB a CDM and a striker! Mite be wishful thinking but I see no reason why we can't! This is the time to really strengthen! We've got the rite manager, now let's go out and back him!

Sorry Steph, I couldn't resist.

Cheers Fab. I haven't been posting but still been enjoying the site - and you giving it to the Rangers fans!

I've been pleasantly surprised. I had reservations before he was appointed - but maintained that he'd be a statement of intent, which he is/ was. All in all he's done well and there is a feel good factor back at Celtic Park.

I've been impressed with our attacking - and his signings have been good. Hopefully DV will do as well as SS, MD and KT have thus far - because Gordon is done.

What's your thoughts on him and his tenure?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 23:09:43
Pretty much the same, but me and my pals were talking before the game the other night and I put forward a team of
Gordon
Lustig
Oconnell
Toure
Shev
Tierney

Brown
Bitton
Rogic.

Sinclair / dembele
Griffiths

I don't think tactically he gave them enough respect and I felt we should have kept it much tighter and played on the break . I hope he will maybe learn from that but maybe not . One thing is for sure the atmosphere and mood is much better at Celtic park these days and domestically it's great to see us being dominant with teams from kick off, I would rather win 5 or 6 - 2 than 1 or 2 nil, but that's just the way I like my football πŸ˜‰.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2016 00:02:39
Agree Fab. Not much wrong with that line up.

And you're right, it's all about excitement, although people complaining today are missing the point: had we won 5-2 last night to overturn a 2-0 first leg defeat, it would have been one of the great nights/ results. As it happens it was a flip of the Karagandy result.

I was on a Scout in Malaysia when I heard the Red Imps result (at 2am) and my heart sank. Six weeks later, we have qualified.

Have not posted in a good while.
I have been very encouraged with BR coming in and the signings so far. Also very encouraged with the style of football we have started to play and results so far. Last week was the atmosphere of old at CP and a great result.
So question. what happened to that team that was full of confidence and attacking bravado?
Am I the only one questioning our set up and tactics last night?
We looked negative and scared from the off and we played like that until well into the second half. Easy to slay Janko but what cover and protection did he get from Forrest who basically did not turn up?
Where is the goalkeeper in dominating his 6 yard box?
I look at every player on the other side and saw more energy, determination and passion than anyone on our side.
Yes we prevailed. just. but that was as bad as anything in the last two years under RD.
Only saving grace was yanking people out and putting others on the park that solidified an entirely defensive set up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2016 18:34:47
I agree we seamed to set up the stall just to defend and we are lucky to have survived it looked like RD was in the dug out last night But I am sure BR would have taken a lot from that game and a lot about the players we have to I don't think he will try that system again in a hurry.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 18:32:05
I'm in (near) total agreement Paul. Big fan of BR decisions to date but thought he got it very wrong last night. Expected him to go for it as they had to come out-were shown to be weak at the back last week-and more comfortable going forward. Plus defense is hardly our forte. Goal keeper doesn't seem to know that everything in the 6 yard box is his. Only disagreement is that I've seen enough of Janko to have formed an opinion (that's just mine) he can't cut it.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 19:24:46
Rd never lost a 3 goal lead like that nor did he get beat off amateurs from Gibraltar either. That was a really poor side n we conceded 4 very bad goals, if it was Rd people would b up in arms but it seems br walks on water in some people's eyes.
Don't get me wrong he has done well since coming in but last night 5 2 up we should have went over there n tried 4 an early goal, instead we were way too deep most of the game n too many players didn't perform, the subs and starting lineup were all wrong rogic Roberts n schviatchenko all should have started in my opinion, I thought it was only Rd that happened 2.
Glad we made it through and hope to see a couple more signings, including a permanent move 4 Roberts, as we need more quality in the team and another striker as again, despite all his goals Griff was posted missing although I'm sure he knows he needs 2 up his game at this level. Dembele very unlucky with a wicked attempt but a bad European performance despite qualifying, we need to keep the ball much better away from home.
Onwards and upwards hail hail.

24 Aug 2016 20:24:12
There was a lot more riding on last nights game lads. My thinking is in the group stage we have 6 matches. I'm sure that we will put on a few good away performances, playing with nothing to lose. Can't wait for the draw. Give us Real Madrid and Dortmund.

3 for me Tony from the Β£30m kitty. RB-Janko ain't got it and ain't ever going to have it-midfielder as you say-and a striker. All eggs in one basket with Griffiths (also unproven at CL level) and Denbelle still raw talent that will undoubtedly come good. Target man.

Good article on BBCSport website about UEFA and the proposed break away by the big (greedy) clubs.
The head of the Slovenian FA Alexander Ceferin seems to leading the race for Presidency of UEFA and has rubbished the notion of the bigger clubs breaking away and pulling up the ladder. Did you know that the winners of the CL last year got less prize money than the winners of the EPL. He understands ggat thd pot needs to be bigger and he thinks it can be done. However, he will not countenance clubd from the so called smaller countries being excluded.
. he says it will lead to 'war between the clubs and UEFA'. Sounds like he has his head screwed on and let's hope he prevails. From our point of view the article reads positively '

I am looking for help on a personal issue. A close friend of mines a life long Rangers fan, has been diagnosed with terminal "C", told 12 month, this was about 2 months ago. He is only 33.

I would dearly love to try and get him to Parkhead for the Game next month as this is something that he would love and has never done before.

Ideally, i would love to go with him as he has mobility difficulties as it's his leg / pelvis effected, but these tickets are gold dust and getting just 1 would be hard enough.

Does anyone know what I could do to try and get him there for this match? Do you think any supporters clubs could help, or do you think Rangers or Celtic could help if I tried to contact them directly?

Any assistance, help, thoughts, suggestions would be really appreciated.

So CG comes out a blames the goal on Janko (didn't have a good game but not his fault) , in CG eyes he never does any wrong. That's 2 interviews now where he was at fault for a goal and takes no blame. This guy is suppose to be a vet and help the young guys but he throws everyone else under the bus while thinking he is world class (guess a player kicking the ball right at him on pen makes him feel that way) .
Just can't belive he did that, he's not good enough to act so arrogant!

The header was hardly in the corner, it was slightly to Gordon's left hand side.

It is a goalkeepers job to organise his defence at free-kicks and corners. Poor communication with KT made him look lost.

It actually looked like Gordon scored an OG after KT tried to clear.

I'd have taken any score last night that got us through, however the performance/ tactics identified we a 'Champions league' club by the skin of our teeth only.

I'd sooner be in the position of trying to improve the team with an additional Β£20-30million in the kitty, than being parachuted into the Europa league (our realistic level) with little left to spend.

I hope the money/ prestige attracts a couple of players to improve the team, we don't get disgraced in Europe and maybe get a CL third place then a Europa run.

I hope BR has identified his areas for improvement, for me (not just based on Last night) the priorities are:
-RB
-Striker
This is assuming
-the new GK was brought in to start
-Ajer will become the defensive midfielder

I'm not a fan of a brown/ bitton midfield.
I think we should have enough creativity this year with PR, SS and TR
I think KT has been immense but has just gone off the boil the last couple of games, fans will need to be patient here.

Do we need a better defensive coaching team? We are consistently awful at the back.

Well done to the team, but let's hope the qualification doesn't gloss over the fragility at the bag
Hail hail Kolo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Kennedy is a well liked and well respected young coach. If his job was just a sympathy vote he could have something a lot cushier I'd imagine.}

24 Aug 2016 16:10:33
That's what I was hoping for Ed. All I've heard is Strachan praising him that's all. It's just we always look so disorganised and vulnerable anytime a decent side has a go at us. Obviously a few people have given him the gig and we'll look better with Sviatchenko alongside Kolo. Last night though we set up to give them too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 12:58:22
Ed, Do you think that there are players lined up who have been sounded out already about coming to us pending CL qualification and if so do you think terms etc have been provisionally agreed?

Would love to see some positive transfer activity quickly and not last minute as per previous seasons!

Agree btw with your point on Forrest doing nothing to help Janko last night and I think he is a lazy player the majority of the time and hopefully BR sorts this quickly.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't want any player that only wants to sign for us if we're in the CL, if we don't qualify next year will he be looking to move on? How much of an arrogant tosser must you be to think you deserve to play in the CL without earning it? If playing for Celtic isn't good enough for you then we don't want or need you.
Different if it's down to the financial side of things between the board and manager, you can have player A,B,C just now but if you hold of we could push the boat out and go for X,Y, or Z.
By this stage I'd like to think Celtic will be well aware of the finances needed for their targets and I'm sure there will be good news before the window closes.}

24 Aug 2016 13:31:40
Cheers Ed. Totally agree. Players must want to come here and realise that they will be playing football in all types of conditions and on some pretty poor playing surfaces.

24 Aug 2016 12:38:03
I agree cmc. I think we could do with a right back, as I can't see Lustig going a season there, but certainly wouldn't go as far as Janko is finished at CP. He was suspect last night, but heat map showed he had very little infront of him from JF in what was supposed to be a 4-1-4-1 shape. Janko was also heavily involved, not just targeted by them, with that little cover, but going forward he had a lot of the ball. I think he looks much more at home as a wing back with 3 CBs on.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 12:48:32
he also fell short at St Johnstone away and Be'er sheva at home. in fact I've never seen him play well. He's a shambles.

24 Aug 2016 13:16:33
I know JimTim, still think we could go another right back as lustigs legs don't take him up and down the park as quick anymore. I'm also not saying he's been great, just give him a chance to develop before condemning him to the scrapheap.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 13:25:34
Last season they were clamoring for Janko because Lustig was having a torrid time and now it seems he is not the answer either.
Fisher was released, so he wasn't deemed good enough and we have another two chanty wrastlers in Ambrose and Boyata, who seem surplus, not to mention the mysterious 'scarlet pimpernell' Simunovic.
Add Gormless Gordon to the list and we have an entire defensive unit assembled by previous managers, who we will probably have to raffle or donate to get them the 'fudge away from Rodge'.

24 Aug 2016 16:28:08
I've got hope for Jozo yet. Fully fit he'd either be in there alongside Kolo and Sviatchenko or first choice back-up on the bench. He looked pretty cool when he was playing and settled our defence a lot.

24 Aug 2016 17:44:05
Agree with cmc, n JimTim, janko is only 22 so still young n there were many players who were awful last night or u wouldn't have known they were playing.
With Roberts in front of janko I think that's a much better fit as like nakamura he covers well n links up brilliant. Or in front of but I hope this isn't what we've come to writing off young players 4 1 bad game, bad games will always happen specially when your young n still learning the game but it's how you get better earning from your mistakes.
As to the starting lineup, not what I would have started with n even the subs at times I didn't agree with, but we got there.

A pretty poor performance last night by recent standards and will maybe let the gaffer see what is required for this level. The main thing is that we qualified over the 2 legs and we now have a minimum of 6 European games to look forward to. Ed, am I correct in saying that the Newco will not receive any of the windfall that the other clubs will get as they weren't in the SPL last season? Alrite ED! So do u think Brendan will be rethinking the only getting 1 player mate? On the evidence of last nite we need another 2 or 3 IMO! The right back should be a priority if lustig isn't going to be able to play as much! Janko is an awful footballer! Watching him last nite was like watchn a car crash in slow motion! Woeful! I've said already about the need for a top quality midfielder to. mcgrergor isn't up to it in these matches and bitton has went backwards! Wouldn't say no to another striker to! What u think ED?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I don't think Janko's awful, he's more than capable of doing a job in Scotland for us and he isn't even 21 yet, what help did Forrest give him last night?
Janko and McGregor are both more than capable of doing a job on the domestic front and both have the potential, and plenty of time, to improve.}

24 Aug 2016 11:08:01
ED u seriously didn't think janko was awful Last nite? I thought he was shocking! I actually felt sorry for him he was that bad! I was stunned to see him out in the 2nd half! I'll give u that him and mcregor could do a job against spl teams but in Europe thee not the answer! Mcgrergor was like a wee lost boy out there last nite! So do u think we'll bring in more than one player mate?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I didn't say Janko wasn't awful last night, but we could say the same for the other 10 players out there too, why single Janko out when Forrest done nothing. Gordon, although he saved a penalty that would have eventually seen us go out, had a hand in conceding both goals, KT at the first goal was standing in no man's land not knowing whether to go to a man or go to the near post. Poor organisation from the GK and defence costing us again. That's the worst performance I've seen from young KT. And what did our new star man Sinclair do? Griffiths and then Dembele were anonymous and Brown and Bitton can only play together in a 3 man CM, just having those two in there doesn't work, why can we all see that and Rodgers' can't? This is the CL and is a brand new experience to a lot of our players and we're on a learning curve again thanks to the board's lack of investment in the last 3/4 years.
James Forrest falls into the same category as Janko, McGregor, O'Connell and Armstrong, good enough for the SPFL but nowhere near the level needed in Europe, the difference is Forrest won't get any better or any more consistent after all this time. McGregor just seems to be the next in the pecking order to get blamed for everything that goes wrong after Ambrose and Johansen.
There's still question marks hanging over Griffiths at this level as well and as our only natural goalscorer I think it's vital that another quality striker is brought in, if LG happened to get injured we'd be really struggling.
If Rodgers is planning to go with a back 3 in Europe we need a right sided wing-back brought in as Lustig will be the RCB in the 3. To be honest I'm not sure young KT can play as a wing-back either but he's young enough to learn and adapt his game. Sticking with that 3 at the back we'll need either Rogic or A.N. Other to play in the MF 3 with Brown and Bitton (Johansen next to Brown?) to provide an attacking option in there
Forget Janko being awful for a minute, the manager's performance was the worst of the night. From a terrible team selection to his substitutions and tactical changes, Rodgers got nothing right last night. People were quick to slag RD's 4-2-3-1 but Rodgers 4-3-3 is actually worse to watch.}

24 Aug 2016 11:28:20
Janko was out for nearly a year with a bad ankle injury and I tihnk he has shown in spells what a good player he could be. He is young, needs work on the defensive side of his game but in the SPFL he will spend most of the game on the front foot. I tihnk last night highlighted inexperience from him but agree that Forrest didn't offer anything. Is it just me that thinks James only lays when we are running all over teams and when it gets tough he does the usual disappearing trick. In the forst 5 mins last night he rubbish out of 2 tackles, fixed his hair, pulled up his socks and didn't track the runner. Is the boy Gunther at Reading still available for Β£1million, a decent buy, defender first, winger second.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 12:25:19
totally agree Ally. Janko will learn but Forrest was no help what so ever. at least Sinclair tracked back to help keep. I thought we should have played 5 at the back to start with. but the only thing that matters is we are in the draw.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 12:35:04
The difference being that we have qualified for the CL, I hope BR doesn't go down the road of continuing to play Janko, no matter how bad his form is, in the vain hope the more games in the first team is the best way to get his form back, don't think him playing badly in thd first team is good for the team or for his confidence, McGregor is a good enough forward but noway is he a midfield player, Biton is vastly overated, but the thing is we have qualified, that's a hurdle tgats been overcome, it must have been on the players minds about failing at this stage in the previous two years, I would expect the team to be much more relaxed and confident in the group stages, whoever they play, they will probably be the underdogs, and with a proper manager in place now I expect great things.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 12:59:06
Just posted up the page about Forrest giving Janko nothing. I'd like to think if we went and spent that "8m" on a "marquee signing" they wouldn't be so damned after a couple of bad games (in amongst some good games) . Jeez I sound like Chris Old Bhiy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Janko's not even 21 and already he's been written off, the same happened with O'Connell after a preseason friendly! It's a common trait in modern Celtic (football in general?) supporters, one bad game means your time at the Club should be over - depending on who the player is of course.}

24 Aug 2016 13:32:10
Not writing Janko off, just don't think playing him in high pressure games when he has not been playing well is a good idea, it just means he gets sll the provebial on his head, when he has a bad game, wish there was a return to the old reserve league, where players could get a chance to get their form back.

The total right side of our team last night was all over the place Kolo looked reassured but the rest were weak at times McGregor and Janko won't feature much again not sure about Gordon he looks under pressure that second goal was as bad as you will see. But we made it plenty of time now to get a proper ball winner in the middle of the park. Hopfully 3 in and a few out Snodgrass McCarthy and Vorns would be nice.

They played as most people expected as they had nothing to lose and have a proud home record to defend.
We surrendered far too much possession because, most of the team froze - as seems to happen in most away games in Europe and when players can't seem to do even the basics, then the game-plan flies out the windae. I agree our right side was awful, but the left and central mid was struggling as well and the front players suffered.
This was not the most skillful opponent we have faced as although they had the vast majority of the play, they created very little and both goals were of our own mistakes.
I think Gordon had maybe two other saves including the penalty, in the whole game, but unfortunately we created even less.
It clearly shows the board, that we need investment in the team if we are to step up and try to compete with Europe's elite?

I am told this guy has pace to burn however defending away from home is a priority in Europe and I cannot see how SJ gets a jersey? I'm sure I heard on tele last night that what pot we will be in will be decided after tonight, with there still being a posibility of pot 3? Does anyone know who needs to lose for that to happen? Ajax? If so then there's a real chance of it happening? If its city then not so much.

There was a certain number of results which could have put us into Pot 3. I'm sure Villarreal and Plzen getting put out were 2 of them and like you say something else tonight.

After last nights performance, I like all of you are glad just to be through. Last night was unfortunately like Groundhog Day from the last couple of years euro performances. It was one of them nights when I wish we could have used five subs as there was a lot of poor performances. Hopefully though Brendan looks again at the performance and realises in the cold light of day that he can't really count on a few of them. I'm hopeful janko and mcgregor get the same treatment as efe as they are offering nothing against more difficult opposition or in janko's case, couldn't have done more to give the game away. There probably will be a few more now as well looking over their shoulder and rightly so. We have started the season off well but last night when we needed to stand up and be counted a lot disappeared .

24 Aug 2016 07:43:34
I think Scott Brown fell into that category as well last night Quinn1888. He was absolutely shocking and passed the ball straight back to them countless times when we needed a real captain's performance.

Agree3 Disagree1

24 Aug 2016 11:51:28
It was actually scary that none of the players could even control a throw in, or a simple pass. Even when we won a throw in, it just bounced off us to give the throw back to them . I'd agree with Scott brown as well, but you could argue maybe only Gordon and Sinclair done ok. On a personal view i'd give Gordon credit for the penalty save which ultimately took us through. Some posters have said it was straight at him, which it was . But he guessed the right way, if he dived to his left the pen would have been a good one as it would have been sitting in the back of the net. Hopefully now, they have the monkey of their back and it wakes a few of them up as they probably started to believe they were the finished article. On a side note, these players have to stand up to the Zombies in a few weeks as they will be looking to put us under pressure as well . We need to hump them after the semi last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There isn't a team in Scotland capable of putting us under pressure like the Israelis did last night. We're playing the 2nd best team in Scotland this weekend and with confidence so high after CL qualification it should give us an idea of where we really are domestically, especially after beating Hearts at Tynecastle a win on Saturday will set us up nicely to go on a run on the domestic front.}

24 Aug 2016 05:56:30
I was asked by a friend yesterday what I thought the result would've been last night and my reply was" any result that sees us through". Now I'm delighted we're through don't get me wrong but while I thought we'd lose a goal or two last night given the way we've Been giving goals away recently, I expected a better performance than what we witnessed last night. It seems your in the wrong to be critical of the team when things aren't good. Had Celtic blown that 3goal advantage last night I'm not so sure people would've been so forgiving. Far too many players last night never turned up for one reason or another. We need to get the defence sorted as soon as. With sviatchenko back now he needs to be in with kolo, Tierney left back with lustig on the right although I think we need another right back as I don't see lustig getting through a full season and janko clearly isn't the answer. Not convinced by mcgregor or bitton either. Bitton looks a very lazy player, think he needs a rocket up his backside to get moving and mcgregor brought absolutely nothing to the game. Just frustrating to watch as we're better than what was on show last night.

24 Aug 2016 10:20:32
I really thought tierney was poor as well his distribution wasnt the best. To be honest you couldn't even give anyone pass marks the performance was that bad. Just think that daft 2nd goal made things more difficult and it hampered the nerves on our players. don't know how janko lasted. Strange line up to be honest should have started with the 3 centre backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 10:37:46
I couldn't believe he played Janko and left out Rogic. Forrest and Mcgreggor two men down right there. Svchenko should have been on from start with Lustig taking the right back.

Gordon should not have dropped it and Rogers made a total arse of it by leaving Janko on.

I was screaming to hook him after 20 minutes. What game was Rogers watching? How could he have left Mcgreggor on for so long?

Really poor decisions made a hard job a terror.

Not happy at all with Rogers performance last night.

Hopefully this illustrates the lions share of the CL dough needs to replace the glaringly obvious passengers.

Anyway, we got there somehow. Typical Celtic the hard way.

Sometimes better to be lucky than good!

I appreciate Janko was terrible but our whole midfield was anonymous. When I say whole midfield I have to say BR got it wrong? Not many teams defending a 3 goal advantage would play 3 forwards away from home!

The wingers never gave enough defensive cover to full backs but tierney was still very good? Sinclair good going forward but for me MOM was big Kolo, you could see his experience and confidence in his own ability.

Glk, RB, cente mid and centre forward, not much to ask for from 25 million!

I've been saying the same thing.
I've been fortunate enough to see him play quite a lot as I have a group of friends with season tickets at Hearts, and at least one can't go every home game.
Paterson is everything we need in a right back!
Over 150 games for them now. Started at a young age and still only 21.
Very strong, pace down the wing, loves going forward, and unbelievable in the air.
Not forgetting the goals he scores or assists.
Someone posted something about him the other day saying that he has more assists than their wingers or midfielders. Lol
He is an outstanding talent who could only improve with our coaching and facilities, and if Hearts have slapped a 1m price on him, I'm sure Β£750k would buy him.

I'm sorry but the stick the players and manager is getting on here is a joke. It was always going to be a tough game to play with the lead we had and the first goal set the tone. We panicked a bit. Janko was terrible but we did it. We don't have to try and defend an advantage in the group stages and can take each game as they come. I personally thought taking Forrest off was the right call as it enabled brown to sit back a little. when we went to a back 3 we saw out the game quite comfortably. Footballs not always about flair. It's about digging in and having a bit bottle. Well played Celtic. Onwards and upwards.

A great result, didn't see the game, just listened on the radio, the performance didn't sound like it was very good, Gordon seems to be getting unfairly criticised, Paterson needa to be brought in as cover for RB, McCarthy type player would be perfect for midfield, Biton, has never been a favohrite of mine, and is vastly overated, what about that guy from Aberdeen, can't remember his name, think Mousa and LG will rip Europe apart, once the misfield is sorted, all in all a great night, the team will improve after this experience, tight stadium, very hot humid, atmosphere, but the players still hung in there, no aftermatch press cobferences about the players being frightened or panicking needed this time, I think Celtic will surprise a few people in how well they do in group stages.

Ed, not too long ago we had RD in charge, that's the difference. The supporters have a new found confidence and have come to expect better now. Although the Red Imps away tie was a complete disaster, since then we've been excellent and last night's performance was a surprise to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't talk shite, Kev. It was nothing to do with the manager. There were plenty of posters on here shouting like cheap prostitutes that it doesn't matter if we get pumped in every group game, just as long as the CL money was there.
Before Rodgers came here his record in Europe was 6 wins out of a possible 18, with 22 goals scored and 24 against. He's now won 2 matches out of 6 up here, scoring 11 and conceding 7 along the way. Where's the new found confidence coming from, 2 wins out of 6? Behave yourself.}

24 Aug 2016 09:28:02
I think us as supporters need to take a long hard look at ourselves, the greatest supporters ever my arse.
The tie was won at home, if you think 2500mile trip in the heat, against a decent side, with a good home crowd, was poor, then I suggest you take your head out your arse, and remind me how great we are away from home in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But Brendan Rodgers has came in and the supporters for some strange reason are confident and expect better now. Didn't you read Kev's post?}

24 Aug 2016 09:35:36
Who would you want in charge then Ed07? Celtic as a club have got the best manager that they could in my opinion. I for one wouldn't want the likes of Davy Moyes anywhere near my team. To most managers of good standing we are not an attractive proposition, that is the simple facts. Celtic qualifying WILL help the club financially and other teams within the SPL. The money is very important as is the coverage Scottish football will get as a result of our qualification.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You've lost me now. Who said anything about Moyes?}

24 Aug 2016 09:53:43
Why is it everytime the team gets criticised someone pulls out the "best fans in the world card".

Does it make you a better fan than anyone else memaself because your happy to call a pish performance as great because we got there in the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 09:49:04
Come on Ed, I'm hardly talking shite just because you don't agree. He's a far better manager than RD and even the players have publicly credited him with instilling a lot more confidence in them. I never mentioned his previous European record, I'm talking about the differences I have noticed at Celtic even after such a short time. The team have been playing good football, scoring plenty of goals and the team have seemed mentally stronger. Last season we would have fell apart gainst Astana when the game went to 1-1. You're quite entitled to disagree with me but I expected a stronger performance from us last night and was let down by how frightened they seemed. And by the way, we've won all 3 of our home games, not 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You're talking shite because you're moving the goalposts. There were posters on here said it didn't matter that we got beat 6-1 by Barca, results in the CL don't matter as long as we're in it. Use the search function.
The 2 instead of the 3 was a typo, sorry.
Without the addition of 2/3 quality players I fear the money is all those fans will be celebrating in Europe this year.}

24 Aug 2016 11:23:51
I'm not moving the goalposts at all Ed. I'm not one of the fans who'd happily watch us taking a doing year after year just because we'd get paid well for it and I hope I haven't given you that impression. But after 2 years in the EL I'm delighted we're back in the big time and I think the squad are better equipped to deal with the mental pressures that come with it more now than they were under RD, as the Astana and HBS games showed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I hope you're right, Kev but I've not seen anything yet to make me as confident as you. Astana were a better side than Be'er Sheva, and I didn't see the team coping too well with the pressure of last night, if we play like that against a top side we will be torn to shreds. I'm the same as you, Kev, I don't want to see that but there are others who don't see the results as important as the Β£.
If Celtic get beaten by say 4 goals I'll be totally gutted and the money will be no consolation to me. I've said for years on here that we should be operating at the level of CL qualification and the minimum aim is to drop down to the EL, some form of European football after Christmas should be our aim every season.
After the season when we beat Barca the board should have either backed NL and invested in the squad or replaced him as manager, that was a crucial point and the board (and for me NL, he knew what was going on and should have walked with his head and reputation high) let us down again.}

24 Aug 2016 12:46:34
Tick67, I brought it up because it is very pertinent. The Zombies support follow blindly on like a collie dog, but ours come across as spoiled glory hunting children. You need to accept the fact we aren't Barcelona, Madrid, or any of the elite, and I'm sure some of the elite clubs would have had a difficult night last night.

Not sure the relevance to Barcelona or Madrid are you suggesting that team last night would have dominated any of them?

Not sure your argument you seem to be the only celtic fan happy with last night's performance and your questioning the loyalty of supporters for us pointing this out.

If you admire the zombies so much you know what you can do, it would be common practice for them to glorify pish you would slide right in.

Sometimes some of us are happy to qualify and take it from there . Fans of some EPL teams that think they should qualify every year, would be happy to be in our position just now . Liverpool and Chelsea finished 8th and below 8th and u can't get Champions League from there.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 23:47:50
Is anyone forgetting one thing? If Gordon hadn't saved that penalty Celtic would be in The Europa League instead. The two goals that were conceded weren't the keeper's fault. Rodgers will find out who his defence shall be when Jozo and Erik are back to full fitness. The main thing is Celtic are back with the Big Boys again. There are bigger teams than us who aren't even in the Group Stages.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - The only thing I will say is that Gordon should have been stronger with the ball in his hands for the second goal. At balls like that a GK should always expect to be clattered from somewhere, Janko was trying to block their runner which he did or he'd have been on top of Gordon. Who'd have been getting blamed if an opposition player had knocked the ball out his hand like that or would we have been shouting for a foul on the GK?}

Totally agree Gordon was at fault, not even as much about clattering anyone, he's just got to take the ball in properly and then stand his ground. I feel a number of mistakes he makes are because he's scared he's going to get hurt. He's obviously not got the crazy gene that most keepers have!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 07:01:09
Stevie the 2 goals that were conceded weren't the goal keepers fault! U having a laugh! That 2nd goal should be the goalies all day long! Yes janko got in his road but the goalies got to take that and clean him out if need be! But the thing I don't get is why people aren't picking up on the first goal! That was woeful goal keeping. he actually gets across in plenty of time, but let's the ball go through his hands! It was shocking! The guy couldn't actually believe he's scored if u watch his reaction!

24 Aug 2016 03:45:12
Correct ed it was that much of a farcical goal me and the brother where waiting on a whistle Gordon's not good ehnough and gets off with murder with us he had the ball in that grasp let go far to east for me janko and Gordon out de vries and lustig in till right back fills that void.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 08:24:25
Said it before, CG is a good enough reactive shot-stopper but is not in command of the six yard or penalty box. He stands on the goal line too much for me when, iMovie, he should be out a bit clattering friend and foe alike to get the ball. Instead, he waits on goal line for the opposition to have a shot. Just my tuppenceworth.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2016 08:47:10
CG never at fault for 2nd. Yes he had it in his grasp and if not his own player knocking it out then yes a foul on our GK. If Janko had been positioned properly then he'd have spotted the runner earlier. Janko at fault for second. I think big CG saved us last night. I do agree he's not commanding enough and accident prone but credit where credits due.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Gordon has came out and said he never even seen Janko. That's a ridiculous statement from a GK to make, if he's not aware of where his defenders are how does he know to come for the ball or stay on his line?
No GK is in control of his own box if he doesn't know where his defenders are. He's let himself down again by being very weak when it comes to the physical side of the game, Janko hardly flew into him at speed, he never knocked him off his feet, it was a bump and Gordon's weak grip let him down. That ball should have been in a vice like grip against his chest.}

24 Aug 2016 09:56:03
He should have saved the header as well. He dives far enough across and the ball goes right under his hand! Wouldn't be surprised to see DDV on Saturday.
