Ed a lot of chat on twitter world about lindegaard. Do you know if we are looking at a keeper with Forster away or is Gordon number1? Surely we still need another keeper with

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The whole thing sounds a bit strange to me, Danish media are only reporting what some BS English based website reported. Van Gaal did tell Lindegaard he was free to find another club and the player has had offers in England and abroad, so why is it only a loan deal being done?
If Gordon is our No.1 why would Lindegaard agree to come up and sit on our bench when he can play every week for another team and if Lindegaard is to be our No.1 why sign Gordon in the first place? The only feasible way I can see it is if Lindegaard is our No.1, Gordon on the bench and Zaluska is leaving.}

If Lindegaard is to come n I would expect him to compete with Gordon for the no.1 spot ( i'm sure he would fancy his chances ) I this would be good for Gordon as, from Saturdays performance, Zaluska is not good enough

Never seen the game yesterday but don't think I missed much.

Ronny obviously resting players for Tuesday but some of the players who were selected yesterday got yet another chance to show they should be in the first team and didn't step up - time to go.

Ronny has a bit of a rebuild job ahead of him. Our top goalscorer last season was a 30 yr old Midfielder who hasn't got off to the best of starts this season but that aside, the desperate need for 2 Centre Forwards (who are better than what we have) is criminal now.

Also if this was a few of seaons ago and we dropped points yesterday, there would have been mortal outrage. Don't think we should be treating our league games this way - not blaming Ronny but the lack of quality in this squad was very evident from yesterday's scoreline.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Did'nt understand anything about the Inverness team selection, RD should be trying to find his best team, and giving game time to the ones that need it, to get them ready for Europe, Gordon has'nt played a lot football in the last few years, I think the more game time he gets the better, he should have played the back four he's going to play on tuesday, the more practice they get playing together, the better, I have never been a fan of squad rotation, some of the last few Celtic managers seem to have been cursed by it, so what's going to happen on tuesday, is he going to play a completely different formation and just hope they gel together, I think he'd get a lot more out of Griffiths, playing in his normal position.

Agree0 Disagree0

The most worrying thing was the total inability of Commons Pukki Griffiths and Stokes to convert simple chances . No matter who nor how many we bring in we will still rely on some of these players as back- up at least, through out the season

Agree0 Disagree0

Did'nt see the game, but when I seen the team selection, was'nt surprised at the result.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Neil Lennon knew he didn't have a decent 2nd squad and now Ronny knows Aindoh.

Not even so much a 2nd squad but very limited in the changes that can be made.

I understand why he did make changes and he has given these guys another chance to prove themselves (which is fair enough).

From what I have heard of the game, we didn't look like scoring at all?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2014 09:35:14
to be fair to the team if Bitons effort would have went in it could have been very different, it was a second string team and really looked it, but we have had a tough time in Inverness with a full strength team.
I totally agree with the selection it allowed some to play a competative match at a stage in the season where we can afford to drop points but not pick up injuries before the maribor game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Watched the highlights again last night and we had our chances - as did ICT.
The wholesale changes were too much for a squad that is short on class. Commons scored plenty goals last term; Griffiths and Pukki scored a few too, but none of them look too clever so far.
I don't know if they are happy or just short of fitness, but we only have Stokes and Berget as alternatives and that doesn't inspire me.
The new manager is learning from his mistakes and needs the Board to learn from theirs.
We need more quality -and that doesn't mean loan deals.

Were you watching a different game from the rest of us. Poor selection all over the park. If we had gone out and won and had another opportunity to play the new RD way we would have had more belief going into this game. Too many changes and as for Griffiths and Pukki don't get me started.

Commons bandwagon rolling to a stop

Best player at celtic? Really. Score tonnes of goals. And.

Tin hat being applied as I commence my anti-commons rant. He has a super left foot. He can fair smack a ball and has a decent level of composure, unlike some others.

However, RD has made it very clear .he wants players to be energised and to play to his system (for the good of the the team). RD knows that energy and fitness are the "key basics" for his system to have any chance.

So he spells out his future plans and asks players to buy in and explains that new standards have to met as there is a new regime in town and it will be a case of tow the line or scaddadle.

I am not a huge Stokes fan, BUT (BUT BUT!) have you seen his pressing and his new found energy levels. He may not be everyone's idea of a top notch striker but he seems to be towing the line and bringing new things to his game.

Can we say that about Commons or Griffiths or Pukki.

Commons has a fabulous talent (that left foot) and he has a decent football brain but I have seen many a game where he is huffing and puffing after 15 minutes and he does next to nothing in support of a faltering midfielder.

In my opinion, based only on my observations, he is not a teammate's player and there is no "I" in team. Yes he can pick a pass now and again. Yes he can shoot and score (sometimes exquisitely) but he is not the sort of guy who will run 20 yards to make space for others or get a fellow midfielder out of trouble.he will never be that player

Commons is bigger than he should be and too heavy legged but he can bang them in (granted!). That said, RD knows his system better than most and perhaps he has surmised that Commons (in this new system) doesn't have the tools to be effective, IE there won't be 30+ goals there and playing him will compromise the system to such an extent that the system will be perennially broken with his inclusion.

Add on the contract negotiations and the demand for £25k per week (making him the highest paid player) .and who can blame him after a 32 goal season (he is entitled to ask for that and expect it) but last season was last season and we are now in the here and now and commons, for a multitude of reasons, is not really at the races .

I think he could go and I think you'll find that there will be no direct replacement because a direct replacement wouldn't fit the system either!

RD and JC know what they need, in terms of player attributes and some fan favourites won't be in the starting eleven.

RD's system may see Celtic progress and find an altogether new level of competitiveness and a winning Celtic playing the RD way may get bums on seats without Commons' 32 goals.a brave decision.might not be the right decision. Only time will tell us that but I think it was a Celtic "in need of fixing" and sometimes the "fix" for the long term health of the club (and for the sake of progress and competitiveness) invariably involves players we think should be at the top table. Paradoxically, there will be players who will be changing their own routines and mindsets and buying in to RD's plans and RD has to give them the benefit of the doubt; some of these players wouldn't get a game in a saturday church league team but that's the way it works

I will be in a significant minority but I think there is a case to move commons on .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2014 21:34:27
Paradisewon, don't get too defensive. I think you are spot on with that post. Commons is not as fit as he should be but made up for it last season as he bagged 32 goals so Lennon was not complaining. RD has a different philosophy, in his world you must be as good as you can be and it's all about the team. Commons will need to adapt if he is to fit in and he needs to get much fitter. If we get an offer for him we will take it and he will be gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Amazing! everybody crying out for a striker a true goal scorer, a poacher, someone who can bag 30 goals. Oops soz we already have 1 his name is Commons.Yet we choose to criticize, wow.He is our best player yet we want to get rid, wtf is going on we should be bringing in players to suit his style not different players with different styles this means we starting again and god knows where it will take us.RD is choosing his style and principles over results, (so far apart from Utd game pretty disastrous). A mangers job is to get the best out of his players. Do you honestly think he is doing that just now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You want to build our team round a player who turns 31 next week and can leave for free next summer, that's a great long term plan. What happens next summer?}

Paradisewon. You have posted a very good post which is all based on one thing ie that R D knows what he is talking about . I just don't know, but what I do know is that he hasn't extensive experience coaching teams in a number of leagues . What he says sounds good, but what if we sell Commons and suddenly find that although everyone is working hard we are not scoring enough goals

Agree0 Disagree0

Simple solution ed we give him a contract, would you have thrown out Lubo because he 31 and got a year left to run?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well that's up to your hero Pedro, and he isn't giving him a deal, he doesn't think he's worth the money, RD doesn't think he should be in the team for important matches... you do see where this is going don't you?}

Yourman, I think your post has merit and I see where you are coming from…time will tell

rayman, I think you have missed the point of my post….I wasn't that critical of commons …i was providing a potential perspective on why he may be struggling to get game time and why he may be surplus to requirements ….

we all want the same thing…a winning team on the park with players that will run through brick walls for the good of the team ….simples

Agree0 Disagree0

Plyers that will run through brickwalls for the team, yes, winning is a bonus, but are you a fair weather supporter?.

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons was our best player last season and has more skill than most of his team mates - but he is one paced and predictable and so far his body language and form would suggest he has shot his bolt and wants a move.
I agree about the change in Stokes and I am not his biggest fan - but we do need to shake up the whole team as there are guys there who go through the motions and make mistakes every game - like Mulgrew, Ambrose and Izzy (among others) and they need a good shake or shift them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aindoh…me a fair weather supporter…hardly merits a response but because I am polite I am providing you with one

i want every celtic signing to work out
i want to see celtic win
i want to see good players kept
i want to see material progress every year
i want to see good performances (and sometimes with good performances you don't get the ball to run for you or that lucky break and you draw or (worse still) lose…

goals can cover up a lot of deficiencies in a player and can corrupt the system that the manager views as pivotal to long term success

too many fans want to see celtic win win win whether or not progress is being made; that is short sighted and draconian

i am not a fair weather fan…i am a fan that knows a good bit about the sport

in answer to your weird query, a definitive NO….

my question to you …what sacrifices (as a fan) would you be prepared to endure for the good of the club and its future success?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sorry Paradisewon, my post was made after a visit to a public house, and I did'nt mean it the way it came out, in response to your question I would be prepared to put up with bad results, aslong as I could understand where the team was heading, I don't understand the way RD is selecting his teams, I don't go along with the argument that you can't play your best team in the game before an important european game incase 3 or 4 of them might get, heavens forbid, injured.I hope they get the result tomorrow, but I think RD is making it hard for himself, .I would not care about how many deficiences were covered up by a player scoring goals as long as he scored a lot of goals.

Champs league finish 3rd then europa final. Hey I can dream. HH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2014 13:13:29
was asked this question last night which I found difficult to answer, if I had the choice of champ league group stage qualification, then knocked out, or europa league qualification then on to the final what would I choose, prob in the minority here but i'd go for the final, I love celtic in the champs league, love the atmosphere, but money aside to get to another european final, atmosphere at celtic park on route would be just as good, break the monotiny of the 2nd half of the season also, I was greedy tho, opted for champs league 3rd place group then onto the final. wot do fellow posters think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Europa final for me every time. Not anywhere near the money to be made from the CL but the kudos for the club would be enormous. I think anyone who was in Seville would vote with me.

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts exactly gj, still think we will be in the minority tho, good to see your posting again, need some positivety back in here, stayed away from posting for a few months maself

Winning the europa now gets you automatic entry for the cl so there is an added incentive for teams to try and win it now which makes it a better competition

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2014 15:43:49
Final all the way the fans don't see the money anyway from the champ groups

Agree0 Disagree0

Ghuys, I am in the Europa final camp. Whilst I recognise it's not half the competition it was (I was in Seville), the winners now automatically qualify for the following season's CL.
However the point of my post is that this is immaterial. we are a million miles away from qualification for the latter stages of any Euro tourney. I would like us to qualify for the CL this season, look to at least finish 3rd in the group and concentrate on a domestic treble! COYBIG!

I see a lot of posts leaning towards accepting (reluctantly) the result. Sorry (accepting might be a wee bit strong) but this is their job of work. They are paid to come to work and get a result. There was no discount for the fans because of the massive changes to what was the recognised first team. One or two changes is acceptable, 90% of the first team is not a tactical change it was a selection set for next week. While I fully understand the reasoning, I was cheated from seeing the full Celtic team give a display (football is a branch of entertainment). How many of yesterday's team will play or figure on Tuesday. I'm sure many of you will slaughter me for my opinion here but if you went to see a show where the main stars were replaced by all their second string without prior notice, would you not be upset? Not everyone can afford to put out the cash for ST or attend every game. This is not about the result, that can happen, but the team destroyed UTD then play like this! I think they should either have started or ended with what will be near enough next weeks team as they have not played enough games yet. This would have maybe won the game and given the paying customer at least a glimpse of the full team. Anyway, I've had my rant and now it's on to next week.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can understand what your saying m8 and totally see where your coming from, but if changing the starting 11 yesterday the way RD did, as long as we get a positive result midweek then I think the Inverness game will be forgotten. On the other hand failure to progress to the group stages midweek and RD in my opinion will be under severe pressure m8

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you mate. Squad is nowhere near acceptable standard and with money invested over past few seasons, you would think we would have a second string team that you could have faith in to do the job.

I know I keep going on about my disgust at lennons tenure, but I believe the buck stops with him.

Its his squad, it was him who signed majority of players and it his squad Delia has to rejuvenate and get rid of deadwood.

It shows you mentality of some fans when they think that because say 25% of players signed have returned a profit, its alright to write off the other 75% who were some of the worst duds to ever pull on the hoops! Its the wrong policy to have!

Im not saying that every player has to be class cause there will be dodgy signings along the way, what I am saying is a team as big as celtic should not be signing so many duds!

John Park for the few good players he has found, majority have been total disasters. Any manager who is celtic grade quality, should run rule over ALL potential signings to see if they are fit for purpose. Lennon would of done this and he is reason why we are stuck with one of the worst squads I have seen since early 90s.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tiny, this team was sent out to try and ensure nothing went wrong midweek, if we had played a full team scraped a win then got beat midweek the same people complaining about the changes would be on here greeting that rd should have rested the first team, as you say I will reluctantly accept a defeat in the 2nd game of the season if we win midweek as winning midweek allows us to strengthen our team which is needed badly, one thing I will say about rd is that he seems to learn quickly from his mistakes he said last night that he made too many and said he learned lot about certain players, time up for some?

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons a 32 goal hero last season, Griffith's regular scorer in SPL under several manager .Both looked a shadow of themselves yesterday .The question is why?.Nothing to do with playing players to their strengths some would have you believe but the fault of those that have left, easy cop out that .

This was a bread and butter game, you don't expect to win them all but you do expect an effort from all involved .Is this possibility the JC syndrome some voiced their concerns about prior to and after his appointment or players realising that they are not part of the new managers plans?Hopefully just a new manager finding his feet and players taking a bit of time to adjust .
I believe and most likely get a blast from the bow from a few that several players now at the club were never the choice of our last manager and the latest demands from the PL were a bridge too far for him .I also believe that RD was a cheap option by PL.
Even before he got settled in a couple of players were sorted for him which questions his authority giving his dislike for loan players, his words .It remains to be seen if RD can rise to the challenge of an over zealous influence from the boardroom, a plant in the dressing rooms (JC), getting players into the same sort of mindset as himself and rebuilding the team with very limited resources knowing that your better players will be sold of with the first scent of new £ notes, all this whilst trying to keep a very demanding and large fan base onside.Do all that and RD will fall into legend status .The clock is tic ing .Good luck .

Agree0 Disagree0

The whole season is Tuesday night. Appreciate you may want to see the first team playing, but had they all played and we picked up a few injuries you would be calling for RD's head. Hopefully going forwards we can see one or two of the youngsters getting a run out each week as part of a rotation- only then will we know if they will ever be good enough. 10 changes is too much, but we have 36 games left to make up the lost points, and the £3m first place prize- but only one chance on Tuesday to win £15m. TUESDAY IS THE SEASON. I for one applaud the management team on yesterdays selection, and hope everyone is fit and fresh for Tuesday night.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeeze! The The THIRD league game, away to the current form team, and the moaning has started! They needed a freak OG to win, and we had plenty chances to score, point a finger at the players for that.

He done the sensible thing in protecting our players.Lets give this guy the chance to turn the whole club round to a fitter and quicker team.Another point is he now knows who will cut it under him and sadly Commons seems to fit into that bracket, same with Griffiths and a few more.We have been carrying dead wood for years time to clean the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

DN 30. Hopefully you will get over your hatred of Lennon soon . Maybe Lennon had better ability than Deila at getting the best out of the players . Commons and Griffiths and even Pukki showed at the end of last season all scored regularly . This season under Deila these players have appeared as nervous wrecks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ttts, did he score the 32 in the first 3, games, he has only scored 1 less than this point last year, the celtic manager in season 65/66 only won 1 game in his first 5, I wonder if he went on to be a legend?

Agree0 Disagree0

@DN with much less of a budget and less calibre of player, so who would be the better manager?

Agree0 Disagree0

@DN your hatred of Lennon really is disgusting. Has he done any better or worse than Oneil or Strachan, better than Oneil in Europe and reached same level as Strachan in Europe yet these managers are revered.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2014 18:14:30
DRB, let's not be silly, no one suggested 32 goals in 2 matches, I was suggesting positional choices and attitudes. RD himself said wholechange would be unwise, yet he sends out a team that bordered on friendly match selection with proven goal scorers in unfamiliar positions. Seems a tad amateurish to me. Maybe he will go on to achieve greatness and I will be the first to praise him, in the mean time the jury is out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman, greenock morton game last season. Lennon fielded his first team. Embarrasing result. Delia fielded second team againist a better team than morton. Got beat. Now would you like to reassess what you said regards lennon getting better out players?

Rayman you are ridicolous. You are embarrasing yourself. Basically what you are saying is that anyone who is not a fan of lennons managerial abilities automatically hates him? Do you think norwich city supporters hate chris hughton?

Budget? Appointing a manager of Delia standard is a massive step up in quality, within budget compared to lennon

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2014 18:41:56
@Your man. Maybe the realize there time is up and about time too as commons has shown absolutely nothing this year .

Agree0 Disagree0

The only person here getting embarrassed here is you, I not the only 1 on here noticed your hatred for him, how is RD a step up in class? (cos you say so or because of what he has done in the game) let's see what has he done in the game eh. precisely nothing. He might go on to be a good or even great manager but at this precise time he has done nothing.Compared to Oneil and Strachans budget lennon had much less of a budget and achieved the same. some may say that a better achievement (the sane anyway but certainly not you).

Agree0 Disagree0

Dn30 I am certain that Lennon fielded a considerable weaken team against Morton last season . RD in the course of the game on Saturday played all the regular goal scorers and I just thought they snapped at their chance or delayed too long . Something wasn't right and let's hope DR can make it right . Which is more important than petty squabbling over our last manager .

Agree0 Disagree0

Your knowledge of Norwegian football and it's managers is second to none DN, thankfully we have the pleasure of your analyses on this humble forum. Surprised you haven't been swept away to the sly studios already.
GIve us a run down on RD again and the advantages of employing a manager from the mighty Eliteserien.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman strachan is remembered now for what he done @ celtic bu a lot of fans didn't like his appointment, but your right in my eyes he's one of the better celtic managers in yrs considering he had to clean up oneills mess on a fraction of the budget oneill had. DN we all get you despise a celtic legend who put his own safety and his familys aside for his love of our club, brought us 3 in a row, last 16 etc, yeah some of the players are poor but whos to say they were his first choices, god forbid if we don't make it on tues I take it youll blame lennon as well?

Agree0 Disagree0

Marco I would have thought the most important thing any manager can do is get the best out of existing squad , as you have to rely on them until you get better players . I am worried why our goal scoring by our attacking players has deteriorated so much from last season .

Agree0 Disagree0

TTTS as we have already exposed- any manager unless they are "celtic minded" in your eyes are not welcome.

Feel free to quote me DN where I have mentioned Celtic minded apart from replying to you. This Celtic minded thing seems to be eating you up.I'm sure you and ever other fan, me included would be very disappointed if the person employed by the club hadn't it's best interests in mind so this Celtic minded thing is really very irrelevant.
As for it was NLs fault that Celtic got beat at the week end?
Really, you've talked yourself into a hole with all your hatred for one of Celtics servants and you need to continue your rabid utterings to save face.
I'm sure others me include will give you a break if you want to step back from the brink.
RD made mistakes at the Weekend, his words. For the sake of the team I hope he gets it right and goes on to be a legend but in the meantime the jury is out.

Agree0 Disagree0

TTTS as I said end of

Agree0 Disagree0

TTTS my full reply never posted for some reason.

No. Your trying to twist things. Total and utter b******* your talking. So basically any manager who has no prior affiliation with club does not have best interests at heart cause due to this they are not "celtic minded"? Are you listening to yourself? What about likes of Wim Jansen? But of course you will make exception for likes of Martin Oneil cause he is irish.

Yes, fault lies with lennon as squad were HIS signings and simply not up to the task. It just goes to show HOW BAD A STATE LENNON HAS LEFT CLUB IN, when Delia felt when making tactical decisions that he could not take any chances risking second crack at the whip in CL next game at Maribor by playing the best of a bad bunch againist Inverness.

Evidently you cannot think logically and know i'm right, by saying I hate lennon now. Get out of jail free card cause you cannot give a reasonable argument to suggest i'm wrong.

Whether you like it or not, lennon has created this mess and I gurantee you within 2 seasons there will be a mass exodus of duds and il go as far as to say i'm predicting free transfers for some or a substantial loss. I will even hazard a prediction that lawwell knows this and very little will be spent to counter balance defict.

Step back from brink? Sounds very much to me you cannot handle the tension of debating with me cause you realise that the only reason you have to be fan of lennons managerial reign was the fact he was irish and he was a hero as a player. that's all you have

Before you post and put your big size 10 in your gub all the time try to at least read what you are responding to. Sit back and reflect on what is said instead of rushing head first into a response that is total gibberish and fails to debate with what has been posted.
Here I end this debate as it is agressing into a playground argument and I will not be drawn into such as it serves no interest to anyone.
I will quote that old saying again, was it Lincoln? 'never get into an argument with a fool.as he will drag you down to his level and beat you '

Im a size 11 actually.

There is nothing constructive you have said to give me any reason to change my opinion. It is evidently crystal clear that because I have a different opinion to yours, that you and a few others cannot handle the reality of the situation we are in.

Too many people like yourself that are quick off the mark to start critisicing Ronny Delia, when he has inheriated a squad that is simply not good enough. Even lennon publically stated when asked if he was staying near end of last season that he had a major rebuilding task ahead of him.

Seems to me everyone is at fault apart from lennon and it would be interesting to hear your view on inverness game if lennon was still in charge.

Its a pathetic attempt to accuse me of hatred towards lennon. I think you will find during world cup I was full of praise for his commentary skills. Said he was a natural. Even discussed this with ed007.

TTTS if we are going down the road of quotes how about this one. Fitting for yourself "if you can't handle the heat, get out the kitchen"
