Some great posts on in tribute to our late great captain and some cracking video memories doing the rounds.
Just want to pay my respects, I never seen billy play in the flesh, but like many fans was brought up on Lisbon lion stories and tales of a great Celtic captain.

Billy's passing is a loss to everyone involved in football, a true icon of the game and perhaps the greatest ever celt.

My wishes to Billy's family and although tragic, I hope his passing provides some relief to his family and those close to him after his battle with dementia.

Is there a collection doing the rounds for a charity?

Just back from Celtic Park with my daughter laying our tributes to Big Billy. I bumped into a guy I went to school with and his dad. We live about 50 miles apart and don't even have each other's phone numbers. Since we left school the only times I've ever seen him is in connection with Celtic. We were both impressed by the number of tributes from other clubs, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Porto, a couple from Inter and a lot from Rangers fans. I take my hat off to them all. Football is often seen as, and reported as, being divisive and responsible for trouble but there's a lot of unity created by football as well and sometimes I really wish this was given a bit more prominence.

With you being a bit of a Man U sympathiser ed, what's your thoughts on tonight's pub league game, help out City or hand The Scousers a chance to win their first title for 20 odd years? Or do you not really care. I don't really care but I would find it quite amusing watching the Scousers come so close but fail again😂.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Definitely 100% a City win tonight for me, Stevie. I hate seeing Liverpool win anything and Ed001 would be 🤬 unbearable if they won the league lol.}

24 Apr 2019 19:37:00
Ed I’m not one bit interested in any foreign leagues and particularly not the 1966 Brexiteer pub League. But with respect to Man Utd against Man City tonight? I hope they both get pumped feckn rotten! 😂☘️👍.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If you knew Ed001 you'd be cheering on City.}

24 Apr 2019 20:54:56
I remember MOTD was crammed with ex-Liverpool pundits and SLY have got 'Spit The Dog' Carragher and Satan on their regular staff.
Thank God for honest Gary Neville who calls it as he sees it.
BTW Pogba and especially Fred have to be two of the most over-rated and over priced players ever?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've never seen what the big thing about Pogba was, he was a cracking youth player but never progressed imo and is only popular with the kids on social media etc In all the years I've watched him at Juve, Utd and the odd France game I've yet to see him take a game by the scruff of the neck which is what players at his supposed level should be doing.
Fred is another baffler, can you believe Guardiola was disappointed that he signed for Utd instead of joining him at City? Bizarre man.}

24 Apr 2019 23:44:29
That was a ploy ed he must be pissing himself laughing that Utd signed Fred.

What about the rest of the squad, Hughes, Gallagher, McBride. I think Joe McBride scored 30 goals for us by the end of November and didn't play again 1966/ 67 season, after breaking his leg. He was top scorer for us and in Scotland after 4 months.

Joe Mc Bride had a knee injury . He came back and had some game time but J Stein thought he had lost a wee bit of pace and moved him on .

Big Billy has had kind words mentioned about him by both sides of the house on prime ministers question time. ( live on BBC2) . He really was well thought of by everyone.

He used to occasionally drink in the sharks mouth in Coatbridge, bit of a soft spot for the republican movement too.

I met him the night before the final in Seville with my mate who’s a political activist. Had a few beers in the Irish pub next to the Cathedral but all the talk was about Celtic and our chances of lifting the cup. Needless to say, we all got it wrong.

I usually laugh at the pish on super scoreboard but yesterday Hugh Keevins tribute and stories where class. The word Legend is hopelessly inadequate for the grear man. That was a great line. My elderly uncle has had dementia for 3 years and when my Dad told him his hero had passed he broke down instantly composed himself at told story after story about the glory days. Dementia has never affected his passion and love for the Hoops and I find it facinating how he can remember all those memories as if it was yesterday. 🍀.

Here's a thought ed. What would you think of Ronny as a director of football?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know about a full on DOF overseeing transfers etc but he could certainly improve our youth scouting and academy etc.}

24 Apr 2019 14:56:43
How does the DOF work when it comes to contracts ed?
Do they do it all on their own or is it like a department thing?

Think they bold Ronny would be a great buffer between the board and a head coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's the CEO and money men (Lawwell & Christopher McKay) that deal with contracts. A DOF is responsible for ALL footballing activities at the club, from youth upwards, the academy, the scouting, medical and sports science departments etc etc basically he's tasked to implement the board/owner's vision of where they want to be as a club.}

24 Apr 2019 15:03:57
Haven't heard much about him since he left us and although he obviously had discipline problems with certain players, there was a lot of the 'philosophy and theory' that was implemented; plus he got 40 goals outa Griff; so I'd not mind him on the coaching staff?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2019 20:54:31
I think Ronny Deilas downfall was having John Collins as his assistant. If he had someone else as his assistant, who knows how his tenure as manager could of turned out.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I said as soon as we appointed Collins it was a BIG mistake and took pelters on here over it.}

I can't think of anything to say about Billy that hasn't been said already, his memory will envelop Celtic football club however long they are in existence.
My first experiences of going to Celtic park was watching Billy and the other Lions in the late 1960's, even at a young age I knew that the players I was watching were unique and I cherish those memories.
Getting older is not always to be desired, but one thing I have over the younger generation is that I have watched Billy McNeill and the rest of the Lions, and for that I have been so fortunate.
Rest in peace Billy.

All I've been doing Gerry is 'liking' as many posts as I can with the thumbs-up as everyone has said so many poignant and respectful things that I cannot add to. I'm 62 so was one of the very lucky ones too.

Once a Bhoy. It's nice to see all the tributes to him, the fact that he can even unite both sides in parliament just shows the stature of the man.

Like OAB I’m 62 and remember watching celtic and being sooo excited watching them coming out of the tunnel. My favourite player back then was wee Jinky. I met big Billy briefly a couple of times and he was the perfect gent and i think that a lot of his personality rubbed off on Tommy Burns who was also Celtic through and through and a real gent.

It's a slow day at work so here's a question. If you had the choice of Lennon or delia back as manager next season who would you go for and why?

Deila for me. I think he had a pretty tough run of it and sounded like a lot of players weren’t playing for him and causing bother behind the scenes. Some of the signings he had to work with during that time were also poor to say the least.

However mostly because I can see him improving us over time whereas I think we’ve already seen the best Lennon could make us. And also because I don’t think I can stand listening to another season of Lennon blaming everyone but himself after dropped points!

Haha ed get an online petition going for the return of the roar I’m sure I can sabotage the vote in his favour 😂.

I was lucky enough to meet the great man at my very 1st game. Away to Dunfermline in 1989. I think we lost that day 2-0 but it mattered not getting to meet Cesar and Mcstay will be a memory i cherish until the day i die. As i child defeats didn't seem to matter as much just being able to see your heroes play was enough to make you happy. As crazy as it sounds but i enjoyed following Celtic even during the other lot's 9 in a row it was during that time following Celtic home and away became an obsession win lose or draw and it all started that day at East End Park.
