30m for Troy deeney what world are we living in the lads decent but 30m game is ruined by this kind of spending.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

23 Jun 2016 23:52:12
Couldn't agree more mate! The EPL has killed football for me! 30 million for deeney is laughable to be honest! A guy who has never been capped never won a trophy never played in Europe and who has scored the majority of his goals in the championship! Football will never for me go back to the game I loved growing up! And this about deeney somes it up for me! There Jamie vardy to just signing a new deal for a reputed 90 grand a week! A guy who's had one really good season in the EPL! Yes he's a decent player but for me he's no more than that! I got sick of watching English football along time ago and don't miss watchn it one bit! Sorry for the rant lol! Just pissed off with way football has went and will continue to go!

I wouldn't get too uptight about it. It is what it is and has been engineered to be that way. It's the exact reason the epl spending structure is the laughing stock of European football and the prime catalyst in their lack of international success.
Home grown rule takes any promising youngster to bigger clubs for them to rot in a squad of superstar players hand picked from around the world. Remember rfc Danny Wilson going to Liverpool :) ? Not saying he was anything special (ga$#) but where is he now? The new crazy sky deal that was signed has only amplified an already ludicrous situation. point in case that deeny mentioned who wouldn't of been worth about 4m at a nutscratch.
There have been some world class English player's over the last 20yrs my pick for the best would be Scholes but they don't travel and won't as long as building a front line of sterling and carroll costs £85m.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You're spot on with that but to be fair we've used their overspending to our advantage as much as possible over the last couple of years. We're the only club in Scotland this decade who can demand £10 million fees from clubs.
I say let them get on with it and we'll keep nipping in and claiming an occasional wad off one of them.}

With the dip in form I've seen and wavering values I'm firmly in the 10m punt group these days.
Not kt though ;) I'll be a tad upset if he goes for that. In all honesty he may be Scotland's most expensive single export 2017.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - 3 times I've answered this and it's not came up - bizarre! Arsenal are interested in KT and will make an official approach this summer if they haven't already. I'll try and find out in the morning if there's anything new on that.}

Not important but my phone melted there as well. I had to reboot it. Not worth posting. Definitely :) . Eyes and ears lol.

24 Jun 2016 06:24:14
The main issue I have in regards to huge transfer fees and wages ed is that a player would rather sign for Norwich or west brom these days than sign for Celtic. I agree that we make money because of that but 10m for tierney if he played for say Southampton I'm pretty sure it would be double that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's just the way the pecking order works though. Would we have got Wanyama for £900k if he was playing for Man City reserves or do you think if a City or a Spurs had went in for him at Beerschoot the price would have only been £900k?
It's all well and good saying we should charge teams EPL prices but if we do that clubs will just shop in the EPL or any other inflated market, if we could have got a single penny more from selling the likes of Wanyama or Virgil I am 100% confident that Lawwell would have, I've no complaints whatsoever about his work in that department.}

24 Jun 2016 11:10:51
Kerzo1888, it's not only about the money though is it? If you were a neutral and had the chance of maybe playing 6 CL group games per season after 3 rounds of qualifiers or guaranteed City, Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs home and away, PLUS better wages then it's really a no brainer. Jamie Vardy has 1 Premier League medal and will probably never get a second but the elitist football community will regard that medal higher than Scott Brown's 5 in a row due to the leagues they play in - which also shows that winning lots of trophies isn't always a majorly sought after thing for players unfortunately for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2016 12:28:58
The bottom line for me is that money means more than medals now days! Sad but true! Uve got players quite happy sitting on the bench or the stand for some bottom 5 EPL who couldn't give a toss about medals or winning cups! Like I said in my previous post, football that I loved growing up doesn't exist anymore! It's just full of mercenaries who sell there selves to the highest bidder!

Can there be something positive about yesterday's vote . Will the English and Scottish FA's use the break from the E u to place restrictions on foreign players including E U players from playing in their leagues .
By the way this could have a devastating effect on youngsters from the R O I .
It could also affect TV deals, wages and transfer fees .
Football could change and change big time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You firstly need to understand that the home nations are not leaving UEFA and the exit of Britain from the EU will take a couple of years. It is not actually clear what will happen in terms of players. There will certainly not be any overnight change but the eventual position would likely be a need for work permits and residence permits. In terms of existing EU citizens already working in the UK, there is no plan but I would think an amnesty would be the likely decision followed by a quota system of some type. In August there is an "elite" club meeting scheduled and although it is not on the agenda (the agenda being dominated by one issue right now) I suspect there will be some interesting side discussions about it, in the same way that I expect there will be some interesting side discussions about the problems with hooligans that we have seen again recently. There is a UEFA meeting scheduled for September (in Athens) and this BREXIT issue may be added to the agenda - or at least held over for next time around - December I think.

There will be no impact on wages or TV deals nor transfer fees.}

24 Jun 2016 22:47:51
There is a maximum period of 2 years from the date Britain ask to leave the E U . ( this is expected to happen early autumn or late summer . )
The EU can extend period beyond two yrs .
I am of the view that if the E F A were interested in improving football in England and not just an elite few at the top of EPL . The E F A would be trying to dismantle the freedom of movement of players as quickly as possible so that all clubs would be developing young Uk footballers and giving them the best chance . I don't know if any of the F A's can implement restriction of freedom of movement until all the E U changes have been implemented .
I suppose, I will be long gone and will have had more important things to think about on my journey .
The right thing to do would be to apply some restriction which would help the International teams .
Those attending the upcoming elite clubs, would never have given a second thought
to Brexit as they wouldn't have thought there was the slightest chance of the U. K. leaving the E U.

Ed, with the new safe seating getting installed, how does that affect the overall capacity both when standing and when its back to seating for euro games?

The seats that they have installed have increased the capacity mate there's a shed load getting done inside the stadium the seats get locked down for European games.

Cheers mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2016 23:11:55
Didn't think they increased the capacity at all. Thought it was just like for like when swapping them. In stadiums where the stands were made for it, when you fold the seat up there is an extra conrete step underneath, effectively doubling the capacity for that area. But that much hasn't been done at CP.

Unless Mulgrew is taking a big cut in wages and is content sitting on the bench as cover he should be released. As for Forrest, no negotiations should be considered.
The Dundee utd boy band members, Johannson, Commons maybe Briton if decent offer and Allan need to be shifted on. Henderson, O Connell brought into the squad along with some freshness in the engine room. Striker and Defender of group stage CL experience required also.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

23 Jun 2016 18:59:54
I agree with you TTTS we need to shift some midfield players but I think you are thinking of moving too many in the one window . IMO I would spread the shredding over 2/ 3 windows as with unexpected injuries and suspensions we may have to call on some .

23 Jun 2016 20:19:40
Why is everyone always going on about OConnell. He is slow and clumsy he turns about as fast as a cart horse. Hecould not get a start at Oldham The same is true of Simonvic he has always been injured and when fit he did not look lightning quit.

Agree2 Disagree3

23 Jun 2016 22:54:00
I've preferred what I've seen of Kelleher to O'Connell. Can't see either making an impact this season though. We need to sign an experienced no nonsense leader at the back with a bit pedigree. I think there's a player in Simunovic though.

24 Jun 2016 01:45:47
Poor o'connell.
Some may say. I agree though. I don't see the lad as a future player for us. I would of liked him to be given more game time but if he couldn't break through last year then he won't shift erik, a new addition or our remaining. Let him go so he can play there is no point keeping him here if he can't start for us.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2016 15:15:55
Time will tell re O'Connell, he is still very young for a centre defender and could yet force his way into the first team . I particularly like his distribution.

So 1 of the daily rags has an exclusive on how Warburton wants the wage structure to be fair.
Whilst another has an exclusive from ex pros warning BR the dangers of having some players on higher wages than others using Mulgrew (and his effort to agree a contract) and Brown as an example.
Seems to be a common denominator? Trainor working the scribed from the top of the marble staircase?
BTW what sort of wage would Barton command compared to the other superstars.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

23 Jun 2016 13:21:01
I know Celtic linked with all of BR ex players but surely a bid for Joe Allen is a must. He is out of contract soon and with the transfer fee probably around £4-£5m offering European football that the likes of Swansea can't offer I think we would be winning a watch.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

23 Jun 2016 13:43:29
Talking about 10 million Liverpool are wanting for him! With that and the wage he'll command means it's a none starter for me! Good wee player but would do a great job for us. just think he's out our price range.

Would rather have Joe Ledley back than Allen. I don't think either is likely but wish Ledley had never left. If it's true that he wanted to stay, I'd put that down as a bigger mistake than a lot of the others that Lawell made.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jun 2016 17:46:41
I'm hoping to see Johansen in a 3 man midfield as he's best in that sort of area. Hopefully pick himself up a bit, feel part of the team again once the rotten apples have been shown the door and hopefully get him an extension if he has a good season.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jun 2016 19:51:51
Agree Daviebhoy, Joe Ledley was one of our best signings in recent years and although we could never match EPL wages, he would walk back into the team ahead of any of our existing midfield.

Agree2 Disagree2

23 Jun 2016 21:44:20
If Johansson could rediscover form he'd be worth the 10 million Joe Allen would cost. If he can't, punt him in January, I'd definitely keep him ahead of Bitton.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Jun 2016 22:58:29
Same Davie. I like the player Bitton could be. He's quite gifted for a big lad and if he just did the simple things every week he could have a great career. Always shown glimpses of lackadaisicality though and has been found wanting when the backs are against the wall. Does he have the grit and fight for the middle of the park? I'd only be happy with him going though if I was confident of him being replaced properly.

Agree0 Disagree2

24 Jun 2016 02:04:21
SJ an NB. I struggle now with these two. I've seen so many mistakes. So many misplaced simple passes. Poor ability, more SJ on that front and I think he needs better footballers around him for his work rate to be worthwhile. NB I do like but for having to duck to get through a door his comparative presence is a whisper.
We have all taken kt to our heart's and rightly so. He does the right thing, pass, tackle and it's a joy to have a decent capable footballer in our team. Imo it's really shown where we need to improve as a squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jun 2016 15:28:20
Yes Jim Jim and Davie bhoy, I particularly liked Johanson in his first full season with us . I know last season, for various reasons was a season that Stefan and us would rather forget, but I know of no reason he cannot regain his top form again .
The strange thing is that we have a whole squad of midfielders who have at some stage played very well for us but far oftener have played poorly . I am thinking of Briton, Mc Gregor, Armstrong, GMS, Rogic . We don't really know how good Christie is or Ajerr, we might have doubts about Allen, but he probably still needs an opportunity to prove himself.
