Surely if Wilson is on the move there must be a readly available replacement ...TTTS

I haven't heard anything about Wilson leaving and as I said on another post would be happy enough to give him another season to prove himself.

She then brings me over a pint and starts chatting , eventually she says "would you like to come back to my place?" . I told her "sorry hen you're not in my league" Boom Boom...........DH

I think that some of are fans are being very short sighted and lack ambition. Rangers are in ruins and will not recover from this for years and yet our fans are happy to sit back and win the league if get into the group stages we might be humilated but what better learning experience for those young players to develop playing against the best and if they hold their own then their value will increase which will only benefit the team as well as helping the clubs finances by getting the tv and sponsorship money from champions league football. Celtic will win the league for the next 4 years at the very least imagine 10 million a year from getting to the champions league group stages alone it makes a hell of a difference in what kind and quality of player we will sign because what young player wants to play in a league without rangers and champions league football?? going by last year the biggest rival will be motherwell is that who they have to look forward to playing against?? been reading with interest since the ajax defea. who should we buy , what should we spend. but only two posters have hit the nail on the head .. j.k. and artybhoy. watching that game , was like watching a rugby team, we don't even resemble celtic anymore. the hoops are clean and crisp ,fast flashing legs. those all black strips are awful , the shirt is nice but the shorts and especially the socks , should , must always be white.even when we wore the hoops in germany, the black socks ruin it , i know these are the ravings of a lunatic, trivial and petty but this really annoys me , if we can't always wea the hoops at least lose those awful shorts and socks . as arty says if we look like them , we play like them. rant over.. shamrock

Notice on Sly spurts news that there is no listing for the SPL only Scottish
league. Wonder why. I have e-mailed them and hope to get a reply. JK

Believable4 Unbelievable1

The reason Sky's not listing SPL anymore is because Scotland's most successful club are now in the SFL, thereby 'Scottish league' is more appropriate. Geo the Ger

Geo the bear. What planet are you on?. ps why dont you contribute to the NEWCO page before it disappears..OD

Geo...if we're being like that, Scotland's most 'successful club' plays in the SPL and kicks-off their league defence against Aberdeen on Aug 4th :-) Mrs E

One other point worth highlighting, is that no club can budget for the Champions League money - it is a bonus (unless direct entry is guaranteed).
The last club to budget, on the basis of that money were rangers and Craig Whyte! - being papped out in the qualifiers lit the fuse on their eventual implosion.................kbt1978

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Why do you think a club can't budget for the CL ? I don't see why any club as solvent a Celtic couldn't bring in a couple of players who could make a difference and sell them on if the group stages are not accomplished

I understand money is tight and the scottish game is struggling but I can't believe a club l the size of celtic can't sign 1 player in the transfer window ,does this mean the transfer budget is zero.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

£2 million on a keeper is hardly a zero budget.

Ian

Agree3 Disagree1

I agree. Our defence have been badly exposed, and going forward we've been very poor in pre-season.

We need a quality CB, this was highlighted against Ajax. Whether we spend £200,000 on the next Izzy-esque bargain or £2M on a solid performer there surely must be one out there worth the gamble.

I've a sneaky suspicion one or two will want to leave if we don't qualify for the Champions League or at least the Europa. £2M might be worth the gamble as we'd either recoup it through qualification or the reluctant sale of a player or two.

Where do people get it in their heads that Celtic are a club that brings in young talent and punts it for mega profit? Are you referring to McGinn, Thomson, odea, Cervi, Mizuno, Towell, juarez, McGowan ... To name but a few? Who have or will be made available for buttons if not free? Yes we have players whose values have increased since purchase but what use is this unless we are cashing in on it. McGeady prime example of how a model like this should work! If this is our business model (as many people have posted on here) then I think we're failing as a business so far! Not saying sell our top talent but we should be jumping at offers like 7m for Ki, even although I love him. Think how many gems could be purchased for 7m.

Either way current squad needs a few additions and I think everyone will admit that. Trouble is do the board just want league titles and hopeful CL qualification, or do they want titles + CL respect?? Big difference and I think the fans will want more than just domestic glory... Especially now!!

Celtic have not always been a selling club. Hay and macari were the first to leave voluntarily for years. They were part of jocks new team at that time which was knocked.out the ec on pens in the semis. Macari was tapped up by Docherty but wasn't missed that much. Hay was a massive loss but even so the team reached another ec in 74 and lost to the infamous thugs of atl. Madrid. Dalglish stayed a lot longer than he needed to as jock made him captain and he then took the big man's advice and went to liverpool instead of man utd. Players like mclair and Nicholas moved of their own accord. To call celtic a selling club is wrong. The epl may be making things difficult with tiny clubs like wigan being granted ludicrous spending power but if they manage to attract one of our players with this money it doesn't make us a selling club just a proper football club that stands on its own feet.

Hi Ed , on a few times but this time i'm kinda mad with Celtic F.C. I spend a lot of hard earned money to follow Celtic home, away Europe ect, The shame (zombies) are gone for 3/4 maybe 5 years and we should win the league pretty easy for the next 5 years. But why cant we speculate on DECENT no nonsense center half rather than loan players or go for championship players, championship players are just that, they are no good. We need an experienced no nonsense hairy arsed player that wont be bullied by spl or European strikers, we have been crying out for years but still we end up with dross. Please PL DD NL spend some money and buy a fecking center half and while im at ita striker , speculate to accumulate.

Good Afternoon ED007, I see Neil Lennon has taken the blame for our Ajax defeat by saying he tried a totally different system. Pre season friendlies are about trying out different systems and getting match fit, I would rather he tried something that did not work in a friendly, than in a Champions League game.
The good thing is we now have 4 home games to come, Norwich, Inter Milan, HJK Helsinki and Aberdeen. No travelling for 2 weeks so we should be able to field more settled teams.
Also for the fans wanting Lawwell to spend on a centre half, they have the perfect opportunity to make their feelings known in these home games. Either by banners or chants. The fans in the stand next to the directors box also have chance to make their feelings known vocally also.
I hope we have 4 almost full houses, that will get message across that we Celtic fans are doing our bit, and now expect the board to do theirs.
ED007 one last thing, rumour going about that Kayal suffered another injury in Germany, is this true and how serious is it? Timalloy

Believable1 Unbelievable3

I only hope people don't get carried away because it is the beginning after all, but a cb would be nice. It nice to see nl try something new and looked like an ok set up but to have wanyama at the back on the wing was too weird for me because he needs to be in the middle of the park where he is comfortable, we can't have him that deep in defense, him and brown in the mid would be good to shut down the mid attack option

Seen a pic this morning with his leg in a protective shall mate.Might be a precaution though...........green jhedi
