The real question here, Billybhoy, is how much a club is willing to pay for a player. While the blinkered English clubs might pay £35m for the likes of Carroll, there is not a Rangers chance of winning the top European prize in hell of Liverpool, or anyone else, paying that sort of money for an SPL player. I'm not saying that's right, I'm just saying it's a FACT!

The real question here is, what is a player's value. The answer is simple, what a club are willing to pay for him It's like asking the question, how much is your house worth. You can get as many surveyors and estate agents valuations and market comparisons as you want, but ultimately, it is worth what someone will pay for it.
Exactly. Liverpool value him at 35 mill.

": no i don't think liverpool reckon he is worth that. liverpool knew that is what it would have cost them and they were rushed to buy someone following torres' departure what someone costs and what he is worth is two different things altogether
So what you are saying is that liverpool knowingly paid well over the odds for a player who has been in court more times than he scored this season (or near enough). That is the biggest laugh of all. So if you needed a car, you'd pay well over it's value because you need it? Liverpool are NOT going to pay well over what they think a players value is. They would go bust. Business' can't run like that. It doesn't work. Believe me. I run a business. I know you can't pay well over the value of something. A value is only what a buyer and seller agree. Therefore liverpool must value him at 35 mill.

Besides players values are not determined on just how good a player is. things like contract length, wages, team he is at and their stature, form depth in squad, players form, age, reputation, attitude . . . loads of things determines value of players not just "he scored as many goals as him last year"

P.s. Re: nobody said that carrol is worth 35m
Liverpool must have. And so what if he has been capped for england. What did he do in that game? The only reason he is praised, is because he was the top scorer for the team that walked the championship with a big team like newcastle. If he played for derby last season but scored the same, nobody would know him. As for miller being worth 50 mill, he's what, 30 ish? Hoops is still young. And I don't think hoops is worth 36 mill. I just used this as an example to show how epl teams think they can just walk in and take players at a cut price because they ply their trade in scotland. I wouldn't put a big price on any player until they have proved themselves ovr a couple of seasons, not just half.

11 goals in half a season doesn't show he can cut it and certainly doesn't warrant a £35milion pound price tag. If he's worth £35 million then wayne rooney must be worth around £90million judging by last season.

To Ben Bhoy does this mean that Rangers should have held out for 50 million for Kenny Miller considering he had scored double the amount of goals Hooper had scored before he left. Another deluded Celtic fan Andy Caroll has been capped for England im assuming Hooper has? Whats that just hearing in my ear Capello has never even mentioned Gary Hooper's name.WATP.

And who would you drop to play hleb . he is a good player but our midfield are playing really well at the moment and I think lenny likes the fact we are now a settled side.

23 Feb 2011 10:31:30 Sunderland are wanting Hooper as Be replacement. They value him at 7m
We should hold out for £36milion. Andy carrol went for 35 and hoops scored more than him in the same league last season, and for a lesser team. And hoops has been on fire this season. And he's not a gobs**te trouble maket like carrol

To the chap who said emilio, kayal an hoops would be off in the summer:
Kayal says he wants to stay for at least 5-6 years. And hoops didn't look too unhappy in the hoops on sunday did he?

Thats funny, i thought we just sold aiden Mcgeady for 9.5 million, remember him, the guy you lot kept telling us we would only get 2-3 million for. We have a manager and scouts who have spent this money very wisely, i give you, KAYAL, IZZAGUIRE, COMMONS, LEDLEY, HOOPER, STOKES, about the same as what you spent on jelavic and beattie, but worth a hell of a lot more. SUAREZ is the only one who money was spent on that hasn't shown his worth, but i believe we will eventually see him come good as well, we just need to keep our feet on the ground, keep playing with belief, and with every fan getting behind Lenny and the bhoys, i believe we have a great chance of winning the league.

Re: Now granted the players you mentioned have came in and done well but do wages have nothing to do with it . . i mean never mind that commons is on more than jelavic a week and blackpool are covering beatties wages, so Jelavic costs nothing like the players you mentioned. In regards to scouting hmm only kayal and izaguirre were found by scouts. you do know that loads of teams were looking at ledley and hooper whilst Stokes and Commons abilities should be common knowledge to any football fan in scotland.
. . . And Suarez? ?! became a liverpool fan now have we?

Why would celtic want hleb? we have enough attacking midfielders and to be honest I would rather lennon brought in an unknown player such as kayal, izaguirre etc. who have been great finds than a well known flop such as juninho, bratbakk. But if Lennon does want hleb then that's good enough for me
