Referee blocks a Johnny Doyle cross, then sends him off for it.

That's a scandalous decision. Great hit though.

See the rage on the ref? Full of hate.

What’s the story with this fifa club World Cup apparently in 2021? Don’t fully understand how at will work if it does happen. What’s your thoughts on it? I always thought it would be a good idear to see the best clubs in the world competing in a actual league not a tournament, i no basically Ats what the champions league is for but still think it would be interesting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2019 23:04:15
But if it's truly a world league, it means a lot of traveling, I know the world is smaller, but it's because the modes of travel are faster, we are all still human beings with all that entails, was just thinking about that Scotland game, it was in geographic Asia, and political Europe, well it used to be, same with Israel, they should be playing in the African nations cup, but it won't happen because of (fill in your own reasons) , . I think they should just rip up the champions League format, I think it's just a big money laundering exercise, go back to the old European Cup format, the champions of every country competing for the top prize, . Then they can have some other reincarnation of the old eufa cup, fairs cup, cup winners cup or whatever, but leave the main cup to be played for by the champions of the individual countries.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Israel is in Asia geographically mate, they are nothing to do with Africa.}

23 Mar 2019 14:31:29
Es, since when did Asia stretch to the Med?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - eh? It always has done. The Middle East is part of Asia. Hence why the UAE hosted the Asian Nations at the beginning of the year.}

25 Mar 2019 21:15:49
Everyday is a school day ed! Had to Google it just to check tho, and found Cyprus is also in Asia? Who knew!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would think most of the population of Cyprus probably does!}

Wee Callums never fell out with anybody and it's widely recognised his attitude is spot on but some how manages to fall out with the plastic coach McFadden.

Not even surprised tbh, been noticing over the last year his sly digs and coming across a prick with a big ego who’s still living off a goal that he scored over 12 years ago against France. For example saying Morelos is the best striker in Scotland despite Leigh was still playing not to mention being the assistant of Scotland. shouldn’t he be praising his players? The guy is another joke who needs to bolt with ebt eck.

22 Mar 2019 23:09:14
He didn't fall out out, it's false news, McTominay had a, ahem emergency, and had to rush up to the bogs, CalMac was annoyed he didn't go over and applaud the tartan army, he didn't realise the story and McFadden was just letting him know, is a non story.

That Jim white of sly talks some mince he's lamped us in with sevco criticising both clubs for not supporting Scotland where's he been since oldco self destructed the national team has had more Celtic players in it than any other club . the man's a fool.

It’s interesting to see the EFL and FA are taking Birmingham to task over their finances. 9 point deduction for breach of their rules on annual losses. I wonder if our SFA will follow suit with some of our clubs?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - England have their own version of Financial Fair Play Regs. that clubs must adhere to and there's nothing like that up here.}

22 Mar 2019 15:16:15
After what happened with the old rangers and other clubs that died, you would have thought financial fair play regulations would be in place in Scotland.
Uefa have FFP in place when qualifying for their competitions, all the top leagues in Europe have it in their domestic leagues, yet Scotland don't have it.
Doncaster mentioned back in 2012 that something would be put in place, to help clubs stay within FFP rules, yet it never materialised.
I believe the Scottish leagues will eventually draw something up, so that teams don't spend what they can't afford but only after May 2021 when they will find out if sevco have managed to stop 10 in a row.

22 Mar 2019 17:25:01
That toxic money pit runs at a loss every year. Over the last 7 years they have blew Tens of millions trying to compete against us.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 17:48:05
I know there are no regulations in place up here as the sfa know a certain club wouldn’t be able to meet them annually. Need to go through the whole palava this summer again. will they be granted a uefa licence? They’ve had X amount of losses the last three years! But it’s changed to shares! Or has it? They’ve released accounts. but they are unaudited! Why do all clubs up here need to live within the rules in place but certain clubs don’t? Anyway roll on the 31st 🍀⚽️🏆🏆🏆.

I see some Man Utd fans are upset that Ed Woodward is taking the cheap option by going for Kostas Manolas for £31M. Wee shame that - really hits home where Scottish football stands in the grand scheme of things.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2019 14:47:40
He's a decent player, who were they wanting instead?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 16:40:28
True that Kev. Imagine the pain. That Woodward needs booting out the door at United though. They're squandering obscene amounts on average players. Not to mention the salaries of the likes of Shaw and Fellaini. Not sure Wyllie but the story I read this morning is that if they are prepared to pay 65m for Maguire. Mental.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 17:28:16
Hahaha that must be the EPL equivalent of Scott McKenna going for £8M-£10M lol.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 21:13:58
Maguire is a very average centre half but he is worth every penny of the £65 m if Manchester United are stupid enough to pay it . Similarly if some cash rich Championship team or lower EPL want to waste £10 m on S McKenna, we certainly can't blame Aberdeen or Mc Kenna and have to accept that his valuation.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2019 00:14:35
A hope Aberdeen stick to their guns and price is out, I wouldn't want mckenna at any price.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2019 05:22:15
Essentially a player is worth what somebody pays Chris, I'd agree with that. But we can disagree with said valuations. Even if we had the money, or I was a Man Utd fan, I'd be disappointed with that. Similarly I'd be raging if we spent the reported 8-10m on McKenna. Is the market really going up at such a rate? 65m for Maguire? Is it even a year ago where a fraction more got you Van Dijk. Arguably the worlds best?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2019 07:49:35
There is an arrogance in England, having an English centre back commanding a mahoosive transfer fee with boost the medias ego and opinion of his national team and league. However I see their result last nigh and that's some score line.

I'd like to see Stevie Clarke replace EBT Eck as Scotland boss for 2 reasons:

1. I think he'd do a great job and
2. It would rule him out as our next manager.

22 Mar 2019 13:25:20
I'd go along with that.

22 Mar 2019 21:17:56
What's wrong with Scotland surely this great football Country must have some good managers, they can't all be finished like McLeish . I don't like the idea of an
Ulster/ Scot bailing Scotland out.

ebt eck is now confirmed as the worst manager ever of a scotland team. hopefully when they chase that we arse gerrard out of town they will reemploy big ebt after he is booted oot of the scotland job.

There's a guy who comes into my work a couple of days a week he's in his 80s and he and I have struck up a Great relationship over the last year because of our love of Celtic it's amazing to hear his stories of teams over the years he has seen from the 40s right the way through till now but we got chatting today about referees and there blatant bias against us over the last few years and he told me it's been going on for as long as he has followed Celtic and told me of a time when the late great Johnny Doyle was sent off for hitting the ref with a cross against Aberdeen I would be interested to know if any you guys slightly older than me remember this incident.

My dad told me Celtic were chasing an equaliser against Ayr Utd when Johnny crossed the ball which struck the ref and knocked him over. The referee got up and sent the Celtic player off. who ran off in disgust.
Celtic and Johnny Doyle who was playing against his old club, I am told lost the game 2-1.
Celtic appealed the crazy red card but the sfa refused to overturn the suspension.

I googled the incident and it turns out the sfa DID overturn the suspension after a disciplinary hearing.

It's on you tube mate " Johnny Doyle and a person ref"

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 11:46:58
What no one mentions in defence of the ref. he had blown for an offside against Johnny, and the ref was knocked out momenterially.
Whilst no excuse as the game changed from that moment on but as someone who was at the game and close to the incident it caused great frustration amongst the support.
If i remember correctly we went on to complete the double that year. 1974 beating Airdrie in the final.

Cheers for all the replies guys I'm a couple of years too young to have seen Johnny Doyle play but obviously I'd heard a lot about him over the years but never heard of this incident on another matter that I'm too young for but my auld granda used to tell me about George Connelly and how he was probably the most gifted player to come through the parkhead gates and should have went on to be an absolute legend but personal life got too big for him didn't like the fame and rumours about his wife got the better of him again I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this or was he just my grandas favourite player an he couldn't see past him a bit like me with rogic.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 12:43:53
The incident happened in 1977 and Celtic beat Dundee utd 3-0 in 1974 and Airdrie 3-1 in 1975.
All I was told about George was that he kept himself to himself and was a natural gifted footballer who could play defence or midfield.
He won player of the year before he retired at an early age due to personal problems and he also didn't like all the limelight.
The best clip I have seen of George was when he took the ball of greigs toe and slotted it into the net in a 4-0 scottish cup final victory in 1969.

22 Mar 2019 12:45:40
I saw George Connolly come out the tunnel at Rugby Park at half time playing keepie uppy and went round the track at the side of the pitch keeping the ball in the air till he got back round and disappeared up the tunnel. It was a testimonial game for Frank Beattie which Celtic won 7-2. I think it was also Dalglish’s debut. He scored 6 that night I think. I wonder if any fellow tims can confirm that or perhaps tell me I dreamt it?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 13:44:04
George Connelly was my favorite Celtic player. He very rarely lost possession of the ball. He played at left half but could probably have played anywhere because he was that good. He is fondly remembered for taking the piss out of John Greig and rounding the goalie to score in the Scottish cup final.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2019 21:21:23
Jock Stein said it was totally wrong decision to send Doyle off . Stein said that if Doyle had tried to hit the referee from that distance he would certainly have missed.

22 Mar 2019 21:25:50
Gorge Connolly when he was younger went out at Celtic Park at half time of a big European night and did keeps upy all round the pitch .
Absolutely the best player I ever seen, pity his career was so short.
