I just wondered what peoples views were on this pre season competition where we play Leicester, Barcelona, and Inter Milan.
With the Champions league qualifiers around the same time isn't it putting an unnecessary burden on the manager and players? .

Believable0 Unbelievable2

22 Mar 2016 22:39:56
We have to make sure we're in the qualifications first.

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Mar 2016 23:04:03
If i recall correctly, Ronny cancelled pre-season trips in his first/ second year and it didn't make a massive impact to us.

I hope its not the only time we will see Barcelona and the likes in the flesh this year! 😁

Happy for Celtic to be included and to travel to watch.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 08:18:56
If we can hold our own in these games then it might give the players the belief that they're good enough to beat whoever we get in the qualifiers because, personally, I think it's more of a mentality issue than a talent one and this could prove to be the way to resolve it. Or it could go the other way if Barcelona tgive us a tanking lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 12:38:11
I don't really think of them as a burden. If players don't need to play or even travel to them, then don't. It'll be good game time for those that do though. It'll go two ways really won't it; we qualify and they're great, we don't and it was a bad call.

Agree1 Disagree2

23 Mar 2016 13:03:49
Can't even look that far ahead at the moment; just want to get this God-awful International break out the way and see if we can find any sort of form or consistency for the run-in, with two trophies.
The way we have been playing this season, shows we have a lot of work to do and a few personnel changes required to achieve any sort of decent level and hopefully we can wrap-up five in a row, regain the Cup and then talk about next season with a bit more confidence.
At present, we are struggling to beat very mediocre opponents never mind Barcelona and Inter Milan and instead of arranging glamour friendlies, Lawell should be focussed on matters closer to home.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 13:22:06
One is at Celtic park ( Leicester) and one is in Dublin (Barcelona) so we won't be travelling to far for those, the other one is in Europe.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 13:22:46
I think it's brilliant. We're getting paid, raising the profile of the club, even the perception, which is the most important thing in our situation. We get to play against top players which should help us for Europe. One game is at Celtic Park, one is in Ireland, the final one is definitely in Europe, what do we want? I think it's perfect, I'm the first to slate Lawwell because of the transfers, and the mystery that is John Park, purely because none of them take ownership and we simply don't know what Ronny has control over, but he's done well with this. Even things like sponsorship - New Balance will be delighted, it's 2 American guys that run the tournament, so it's more exposure, potentially more networking etc etc. I honestly think it's idiot proof! We can still have our pre-season at Lennoxtown if we want, I'm actually amazed we got to play Leicester at home as part of a really prestigious tournament, - this is all so good I actually can't get over its actually my team I'm talking about! Still the main problem is and always will be the manager and the players standing up and doing the club and fans justice!

Agree0 Disagree2

23 Mar 2016 13:51:22
Fair point that JJ2!

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 14:20:06
Not too bad . if it had been two separate trips to America different. but it's 1 home 1 Dublin and somewhere tbc europe . how does this tourney operate.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 17:11:20
To be strictly accurate R D cancelled widespread travelling last season, the first season he complained about the distance the team was travelling . I hope Dublin isn't regarded as too far this year.

Unfortunately for us big jozo has been unlucky with injuries however i am concerned as to the frequency of his absences! To be honest from what I've seen so far i think he is a cracking defender although he does need to improve his play while in possession and passing from the back. Just wondering what everyone elses initial thoughts are of him and if they have been as impressed as me? (Injuries aside)

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2016 22:56:58
NI, think Jozo looks comfortable at this level can read a game well and to me seems a confident defender.

Would love to see him and Sviatchenko play in a run of games to see how they develop together and if we potentially have a solid pairing heading into Champs League Quals.

Just hope he doesn't have the same doc as Boerigter!

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 13:52:24
I'm already worrying Jozo is going to be a sick note? Is this his 3rd spell out now?

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 14:21:23
Are the injuries similar also?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 17:13:29
Give the lad a chance, talk about Celtic fans best in the world and we are down on this player already .

Agree0 Disagree3

23 Mar 2016 17:35:24
Old boy questioning a players injury proness doesn't mean we're giving him a hard time. I don't hate dirk or think bad thoughts of him as a player but what I do say is he isn't any use to us if he is injured all the time. I and a few others are beginning to worry about jozo and rightly so IMO. He has been injured on 3 separate occasions now so i think that's cause for concern. It's nothing personal. From what I have saw of him he looks a decent player but hopefully he isn't a new dirk or hoiveldt.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 17:44:31
Chris nobody here is "down on" Jozo as I see it. Like Jsean I've expressed a desire to see him in the team alongside Sviatchenko going forward. But as far as I'm aware, and may be wrong, he has suffered from a knee problem 3 times this season, and that's concerning when you look at how little he has played.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 17:52:24
Actually it may have been his ankle twice and this time his knee. When the Molde player went in late I remember thinking they had deliberately went for his previously bad ankle.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 18:02:31
Nobodies down on him old bhoy just genuinely concerned, he does seem injury prone.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 21:13:25
Pedri Celt it can 't be easy for a young player to leave his home and family, his home land and friends and travel hundreds of miles. to Scotland where it seems to be winter every day and yet if he reads a Celtic forum he comes across people who know nothing about him, judging him and finding fault.
Great supporters .

Agree0 Disagree5

24 Mar 2016 16:42:48
Old boy it's you who is putting a judgemental spin on what is being said. Does travelling to Scotland make your hamstrings ping or your ankles roll all of a sudden? I'll support the guy when he's on the pitch and I'll even wish him well in his recovery but regardless of what team in the told you play for if your constantly injured your no use to anyone. I don't know how you can chastise people for saying I hope he isn't another sick note player by claiming that we go against our 'best fans in the world' banding. Plucking negativity from that is pretty petty if you ask me.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Mar 2016 22:02:05
Pedro Surely we don't know the boy long enough to decide he is constantly injured.
Even the SMSM would find it hard to describe him as constantly injured despite the injuries he has had in his 6 mths with us . I am pleased you support and encourage him when he is on the pitch playing for us, I would expect that to be the least I would hope from a good Celtic supporter . Give the player a year or two before condemning him as constantly injured .

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Mar 2016 13:08:01
So far he has been injured almost his entire Celtic career. Nuff said.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Mar 2016 19:25:41
Pedro He has played 17/ 18 games, the last 6 or so with an injured knee . Top knee specialist in London has determined quite a serious injury which means he will miss the remainder of this season and maybe part of next season .
I certainly don't see this as a " sick note type of player but a young player determined to play through the pain .

I suppose at the time some of you were ringing the D R and giving out stink about H L not playing with his broken leg . Some of ye would think J Kennedy should still be playing, wasn't it only something wee wrong with his knee

Nuff said.

We have all watched our team play absolutely terrible in parts this season, However its time to stand up and back OUR TEAM.

We are Celtic, We are THE CHAMPIONS

rabmac you being serious?

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Mar 2016 23:00:39
All for supporting the team Rab but a song for Ronny?

Fine line between supporting the team which every fan wants to see winning and supporting a manager who has divided the fans.

Do you think this would show support to Ronny or highlight the divide?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 23:34:03
If you don't support Ronnie, you don't support Celtic, roll up, roll up, for the Ronnie supporters club.

Agree2 Disagree3

23 Mar 2016 01:39:54
I think the 'Ronny Supporters Club' would know how to spell his name.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 09:23:29
Rab Mac a song for Ronny seriously! Yes I agree back the team for the run in but it's went to far with Ronny to start making up songs up for him! That would just give the half wits in the boardroom an exuse to keep him, which IMO shouldn't happen! Support the team and get the double but in the summer he has to go! Simple as that!

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 13:01:27
beav, if the manager wins the double why sack him? And if we do sack him who do we replace him with? The names that have been floating about are worse IMO. What Ronny needs is proper backing from the board and then we can judge him, if we can win the double with the board deciding who to pick just think what the manager could do with some money and full control over signings/ selections if what some have suggested is true.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 13:33:42
Why sack him? Have you not seen the performances this season? No one who goes to the matches can deny that we are playing a lot poorer than last season. If you look at the squad we have in comparison to all the teams we have faced this season it's fair to say we aren't getting the best out of them and that is placed firmly at the door of Ronny as he picks the tactics and players. Scraping victories is generally a sign of champions sadly I believe it's a sign of poor management as there are too many scrappy matches for the squad we have and the opposition we face.

Agree1 Disagree2

23 Mar 2016 13:50:48
Ronnie was that a serious question? Why sack him! Have u Witnessed any of the performances this season! His European record alone should have seen him out the door as soon as the woeful EL group stage was over! Winning the league and maybe the cup, and that's a big maybe will be nothing more than papering over the cracks! And If we continue with this manager going into Europe next season I will bet my mortgage he will fail once again! One year without CL maybe,2 at a push! But if he fails 3 years in a row him and the clowns that persist with him should all be shown the door!

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2016 17:17:40
There are a number of very wealthy clubs in the EPL who have spent astonishing amounts of millions over recent years and they are trailing one of last year's relegation escapees by 8-10 points and more .
Their fans support their managers more than some of our half wits and we are 4 pts clear with a game in hand .

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Mar 2016 20:38:57
Hahahahahaha the biggest half wit on here calling other people halfwits! Priceless! That's gave me a right giggle by the way!

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Mar 2016 16:38:07
Given the amount of negativity coming out of the jungle these days you would think we were being humped every week with no chance of anything good. I really don't care how we play at the moment I just want the bhoys to win I agree that it's not all rosy but we have to back the team no matter what. We have had bad spells in the past and have always bounced back for godsake let's have a bit of unity and get behind the team. We are Celtic we are family we will achieve greatness if we remain United and loyal. HAIL HAIL.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

22 Mar 2016 18:50:00
I think that fans are being very naïve if they think that if 60.000 people suddenly turn up at Celtic park success will follow, I wish it was as simple as that, then again if it was as easy as that every other team would be successful as well.
Celtic had great backing on Saturday, it didn't prevent an awful performance from the players.
Fans are perfectly entitled to ask why this is the case.

Agree1 Disagree2

22 Mar 2016 18:53:34
MM12009. Well said, we are well on the road to number 5, so it shouldn't be all doom and gloom . A bit of positivity and we might all enjoy it .

Gerryc Celtic had 5,000 to 6,0000 fans at Kilmarnock on Saturday and u are right they were very good and very supportive, and what happened we won the game with a fantastic strike late on .
Many knowledgeable supporters say that at this time of season, results are most important .

Afternoon Ed, I know you don't share my view and without a doubt hold a better interpretation / understanding of any new Pan-european league

But for me given this Champions Cup pre season friendly the ONLY reason we would get an invite to any "super league/ s" would be US as fans IMO

Games will always need attended regardless of TV monies and there cannot be many more alluring / well behaved / embracing fans than us wherever we go Ed

That's why we are always invited to these things IMO (y)

{Ed007's Note - I'm not going to rain on your your little sunny fantasy mate.}

22 Mar 2016 17:19:42
This comes straight from the "Barcelona getting hoops on their kit as a reference to their relationship with us" book of fantasy.

Agree1 Disagree4

22 Mar 2016 18:51:19
That's fair enough I fully accept you have a better overview or handle on the issue, Just hope there an avenue / better playing field than the one we find ourselves in or continual decline will be come the norm IMO.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 19:01:12
I don't think we should be advance booking any super league dates just yet .

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Mar 2016 22:12:16
I think the pre-season friendlies with Barcelona and Inter Milan, are just away of softening the blow for cutting us out of main stream European football in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 07:16:09
You know I'm no fan of Ronnie as a coach but now is the time to put criticism to one side and everyone put there shoulder to the wheel, there won't be a change of manager or any new players till the summer at least so let's try and get the team over the line for a league and cup double.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

22 Mar 2016 08:24:36
That's more like it. There wasn't going to be a new head coach at any point the way things have been. I just wish thousands would have adopted such a mentality earlier.

Agree3 Disagree3

22 Mar 2016 10:51:34
Too many Celtic fans gullible enough to believe the SMSM who at no time has had any good to write or say about Celtic, manager or players . We all must do what is good for Celtic, get behind club and management and finish the season with a double .

Agree2 Disagree3

22 Mar 2016 11:30:19
That misconception gets on peoples nerves oldbhoy, I like many many other fans don't buy the r*cord or the s*n and would rather listen to Justin biebers greatest hits ( if he has any ) than listen to radio synde, we base our opinions on watching the team, the results from matches and how we see the players perform, it's like saying you and others base your opinions only on what you read in the Celtic view and the comments made by peter lawell or the press releases by our communication director, that would make you and others puppets for them, which I'm sure you would claim is untrue.

Agree5 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 12:22:11
Most of us have grown up with the biased and derogatory reporting and many of us have stopped buying, listening-to or watching the attempts to undermine our club, or disrupt managers and players.
Better Celtic managers and club spokespeople have stood up to them and put them in their place, but in recent years the silence from within Celtic Park has been deafening.
Lennon had to endure a horrific hate campaign based on bigotry and sectarianism, while Deila has been criticised all season - both managers, without any serious protection or backing from the club.
Celtic fans can be fickle at times, but have a right to comment on their concerns and doubts, as much as their support and belief and it is not all generated or orchestrated by a media we have never trusted or pay any heed to.

Agree5 Disagree1

22 Mar 2016 19:12:47
It's even more serious, if so many Celtic fans are so anti, R D players and Board and have came to this view without been indoctrinated by the SMSM . It's really unbelievable that any supporter cannot have some things about Celtic to be excited about and hence post some positives . It must be easier to post negatively but I cannot see the point . Everyone knows there are weaknesses , but how does it bring advantages to the club and team posting them on a daily basis . If we post positively we might build confidence and thus team plays better.

Agree0 Disagree2

22 Mar 2016 22:24:47
Old Bhoy do you really think that Ronny or anyone at Celtic reads these posts and is in any way troubled by them? So how does any negative posts on this site influence Ronny or the players? They don't give a flying monkeys what we post on here. It makes no difference to players or managers.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2016 23:13:57
Johnnymac, the fans read this stuff and transmit their negativity on match days, almost exclusively at home.

What else do u expect a foreign person who is trying to improve his English, surely he is more likely to read a Celtic fans forum than one belonging to Sevco or the MSSM . If u thiink people at Celtic don't read Celtic forums, I pity your simple outlook

Why the hell are some people so nasty, if they didn't think they were abusinng people and hiding behind a user name. Usually hen picked husbands who can't get a word in at home .
