Anyone think Nick Powell would be worth going for? Heard he is free to leave Manchester United in the summer and never really got going there. Was highly thought of when at Crewe if I remember correctly

Believable0 Unbelievable0

His wages will be out of our reach surely?

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe but if he isn't getting a game maybe getting what we would pay and the offer of actually playing and winning trophies would be more appealing? End of the day I doubt he would be struggling to live on the wages from us, probably a lot more than what most of us earn

Agree0 Disagree0

Bolton would be interested as NL is a fan

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Bolton are in serious financial difficulty. They were lucky to escape a transfer embargo for breaching FL FFP and are struggling to find any available money to offer the £16k a week Commons has asked for. Powell might be seen as a cheaper and better long-term prospect.}

Wat would Powell be on ed any idea?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm not 100% sure but some say it's as low as £5k, it's no more than £10k a week, Tam.}

Confirmation graig Thompson to ref zombie semi, thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was the only option fab. I thought he was away that weekend but Killy told us a while ago that's who it was. Just hope he doesn't get anything wrong cause the atmosphere next week will be bad enough. What do you think fab

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest I think he is one of our better referees and would hope we are so far ahead of them that any mistake that is made is inconsequential. While we are on the subject I know as a Celtic fan we are supposed to mistrust them, but I think they do a very difficult job in what is a very fast modern game . Now as for linesmen whose only job is to look along the line and get that wrong most of the time don't get me started , did you see the one at the spurs game at the weekend who gave vertongen off side when he was 5 yards inside his own half, disgraceful .

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a difficult job no denying that. But people like willie collum don't help there cause. I'm really pleased he isn't anywhere near it. But I agree with you and I said a few weeks back the ref should be irrelevant as we should destroy them. Should! We are due to give some1 a skelping here's hoping they get it.

Agree1 Disagree0

He is another 'honest mistake' merchant but even that should not be an excuse. We have found some form at the right time and if we start to convert more of the abundant chances we create, we can win very comfortably - and there are Sevco players who would bet on it!

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jan 2015 12:52:43
They could bring in watty smith as referee with mcoist and durrant as his assistants and we'd still pump them! We're startin to play better and score goals at the right time! Credit rd for keepin griffiths and commons in the team! Think they'll have a field day against that mob! Show them no mercy and absolutely annihilate them! Nuthin will make me happier :D

Agree1 Disagree0

Considering he's Scotlands top referee Reffing the biggest Scottish fixture I imagine he will not want to balls it up with the scrutiny they are under at the minute otherwise it might jepordise his chances of getting one of the remaining UCL fixtures. Just hope its fair no dodgy decisions and we should never lose, That's their only hope of a win imo

So much so for badge kissing misfiring Guidetti.

Kiss him goodbye and play Griffith/ Stokes etc; who want to play for the club. Try giving Scepovic some game time in the hope that he can achieve. If not, then keep scouting and developing our home grow talent.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I think that Celtic are in a no win situation as regards Guidetti.
If he scores a lot of goals between now and the end of the season, he will be wanted by clubs in the EPL, and we wouldn't be able to match the wages that they could pay.
If he doesn't score goals and can't get in the team, why would we want to sign him anyway.
Players tend to move to the club which offers the highest wages, it is the only thing that motivates most players, that's why I don't take much notice of the badge kissing.

Agree0 Disagree1

He has gone off the boil but let's remember this was always going to happen given the length of lay off he had. I never really thought we could keep him, we just cannot compete with some of the deals he will be offered and we play in a poor league.

Lets just hope Ronny is managing him and he will return fresher and rested and champing at the bit.

Agree1 Disagree0

We don't know what the situation is with regards to the contract, I think he's is getting a lot of flak considering he's gone somthing like 5-6 games without scoring (when starting) and is still our to goalscorer. I agree we seem to be in a bit of a no win situation, but would still like to see him as part of the rotation and if he can pick up where he started would love to get him signed permanently

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see any EPL teams wanting him, He was a flop at Stoke and has gone off the boil with us, SPL is frowned upon in England so 20 goals won't seem much of an achievement to EPL teams. Even teams like Leicester have Ulloa and Kramaric up front how are much better imo

Shame kayal never got over being assaulted by mcculloch. What a player in his first season. Wish him all the best at Brighton. Good luck beram.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Did we get any cash? can't seem to see a fee anywhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure gj. Read on the record there that kayal "attempted to blame poor performances on mcculloch". Attempted. The f@nny nearly Took his leg off. Yet durrant would have been been the greatest ever if it wasn't for Neil Simpson and that's just accepted.

£200k being reported in papers

ive not quite seen the appeal some people had of biton until the last couple of games, he is now playing the lennon role where he patrols the wider centre circle area acting as an outlet for attacks that stall and quickly passing the ball forward to the player who ran into trouble and has now got free or totally changing the angle of attack with crisp short passes, all our other forward players know he is in that area and without thought can change the point of attack with a ball to him as they know where ihe will be most times, it also looks to give our midfield and wide areas a v shape causing a bottle neck that helps stop counter attacks and leaves him to mop up, the boy has looked good in there and long may he continue, the end of the line for mulgrew?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Very tidy player that just needed game time I always thought. Every team needs a guy like this.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Mulgrew steps back in to the side when he is fully fit it will be a sham

Ahem. who was it that said on this forum a while ago they had it on 'good authority' from a trusted source that Martin Odegaard was signing for Celtic in January?
The same person said until January was over they couldn't be proved wrong. Well, January is NOT over and you ARE proved wrong, just as expected! lol

Believable3 Unbelievable0

22 Jan 2015 20:23:48
Maybe we'll get him on loan!

Agree0 Disagree0

They must have been mad! Would you come here over some of the clubs he had offers from? Our only hope was the Ronny connection and that was slim at best

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember your shout too Ed! What made you think he'd pick Real? Is he not a Liverpool fan?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I didn't just think it, someone told me. The approach on behalf of CFC for Odegaard was made directly to his father by Massimo Franchi or someone associated with him at MF Sports. We never really had much of a chance, Jimbo, it was between Madrid and Ajax although he really did have his pick of anywhere.
I think he is a Liverpool supporter but they had as much chance of signing him as I have of $hitting out a monkey tonight.}

He was asked in an interview before he got his national team debut and all the kaos started, if he dreamed about playing for his favorite club Liverpool.
He said that supporting them dosnt mean I would like to play for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

My original post wasn't meant to have a go at anyone. Sorry if it read that way. It would be great if we got him on loan but I think Real will want to hold on to him and develop him themselves. He didn't cost them very much in real terms. If he gets even a few games for their first team in the next year he'll be worth at least double what they paid for him so they can't really lose.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isn't he meant to be on something like 80k a week? Think we would struggle to even loan him if that's the wages he's on we would be lucky to even be able to offer to pay 20k of that I can't see the loan happening

Agree0 Disagree0

Just reading gudettis pulled out of talks to keep his options open, I hope to god that he is only used bit part if at all or sent back surely he should know by now if he wants to stay, celtic took a gamble on him and have looked after him and given him game time but I would want people that want to play for us to start i'm no stokes or griffiths fan and I know there not the big striker where craving but i'd sooner a 100% commited stokes or griffiths over a 50% half hearted gudetti, also I wouldn't even include him in the sevco game that's what the players are looking forward to games like that should be about who wants to wear the hoops and be proud, not a player who just wants a experience.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Why should Guidetti have to decide this month? He can sign a pre-contract any time between now and June and with the buy out clause in his loan deal he can sign permanently for us any time between now and his contract expiring.
A lot of people are over-thinking things and making a mountain out of a molehill. He's not even allowed to talk to other EPL teams yet so officially he doesn't know what, if anything, is on offer down there.
Should Commons be dropped because it's looking like he won't be here next season or as it looks like VvD will be away in the summer, should he be dropped too? There's more a chance of Guidetti staying with us than there is of VvD, would you drop him for Ambrose for the LC semi-final?}

22 Jan 2015 16:11:11
I understand he can sign at anytime it's the fact he's pulled out of talks, makes me think he doesn't want to be here, with commons I think he's done enough to start the semi from what i'm reading he wants a longer contract than on offer but still wants to be here, vvd also I think has done enough to play in a semi, fine he might be off in the summer but we will also get a good transfer fee for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't see any difference, do you think VvD wants to be here? He's openly spoke about leaving, he wanted to leave in the summer, he wanted to leave in this window and he will leave in the summer but he should play and Guidetti shouldn't?
There's been no talks with Commons or his agent in weeks, he's not getting the deal he wants and it looks like he will leave, maybe even this month if Bolton can find a way to pay the £16k a week he's asked them for, plus he's hardly kicked a ball all season.
Guidetti has put ALL talks about his future on hold and should be ruled out of a semi-final because of it.... OK then.}

Ed I take your point about VvD and Commons who make a big difference to our Team and the way they play. Guidetti last few outings he has bought nothing to the Team and failed not only to score but to be involved in the making of chances. Griffiths on the other hand last night ran his heart out and deserves a run in the team as he seems/is comitted to our team. Hail Hail

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - One swallow does not a summer make.}

22 Jan 2015 16:38:35
If they were to offer commons 2 years would he stay?? I think so, so he wants to be here, vvd has played very well for us yes he's looking at options but he's given us the service, gudetti is here 5 mins talked the talk that made us believe he wanted to be here, now he's pulled out to keep his options open so no I don't think a player that's not here that long that pulls out of talks should play. don't get me wrong ed I like and rate him and would love for him to sign but pulling out of talks just takes the gloss of it

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed rumoured has it that Guidettis agent had informed all teams in the EPL that he is available for free this summer, and also he asked Celtic for 35k p.w. that's why he is keeping his options open.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Why would his agent need to do that, did clubs not know?}

Unlike Commons and Van Dijk, Guidetti was never our player and similarly to Denayer, probably never will be.
I am becoming really frustrated with the clubs ambition and transfer strategy and ability to attract players
We have guys like Berget, Wakaso and Tonev on loan who do not seem to have a future with us either and on the rare occasion we do sign a 'star' he wants out the door as soon the team photo is dry.
I never get excited about these transfer windows as we have become very predictable and over-cautious and that can't be right for a club of our size and reputation - or are things really getting so bad?

Agree2 Disagree0

This is a touchy subject it seems. I've no problem with him waiting until April to weigh his options: what sensible and well-advised 22 year old would do otherwise.

Perhaps, tho, if he had been clear about that when he *entered* negotiations we could all have been spared the awkward flirtations and now the uneasy silence.

Agree1 Disagree0

At the end of the day, he is a loan signing, and we all new that when he arrived, so why not play him because he hasn't signed. His wages still need paying, don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jbhoy as I have stated previously his last few performances have not been up to standard and have been in mu honest opinion very poor. Griffiths deserves his opportunity and I for one would be happy to see him settle down and be our first choice striker. I have no issues with Guidetti though, he has the potential to be a great player for us. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

He's talking about hatricks against The Shame. That will rile them and we should hail players like that. Whether he deserves the chance to is another story as Griffiths played one of his best games for us against Montherwell so it would be unfair to drop him

Agree0 Disagree0

Tamtic, I totally agree with you, he went off the boil, dropped and replacement doing well, so has to wait for an opportunity again.
That's the way I see it, and don't read to much into him not signing (btw I would sign him if possible) but griffiths is taking his chance.

I see the young lad Odegaard has signed for Real Madrid. Well done to our esteemed ED007 or should that be e-steaming Ed007 (beer) for predicting this months ago.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'll have you know I'm teetotal.}

Reported £80 grand a week is ridiculous for a 16 year old IMO & his dad is to get a coaching position as well into the bargain ffs

A six year contract that's £25 MILLION!

Good luck to the lad but a tad outlandish for me!

Afternoon Ed & all, Can I ask you this Ed when does the window actually shut up here is it the 2nd? my thoughts are in terms of GMS & Armstrong they semi finals are the 31st & the 1st of Feb without counting chickens etc if it were to be a Celtic v Utd final then in terms of both of them I cannot see GMS playing in that because he would be in a very difficult situation can see the headlines now "head not right" etc

If BOTH were to sign they would be cup-tied so could not play against united!

In Armstrong's case his contract as far as I can see is up at the end of next season so surely his "premium" value would lie in this window?

That is why this window shutting is IMO very important with these semi's in mind

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The window closes at 23:00 on the 2nd of February. If GMS can't be professional enough or doesn't have the mental toughness to play against us he's going to really struggle to adapt to playing for a big club.
Scott Brown played against us after he had agreed to join, he even scored against us in his last match for Hibs, a match we lost.
If anything GMS should be champing at the bit to play against us and show us what we're getting. He owes Dundee Utd and their supporters to keep giving 100% in every game he plays in, irrespective of the opposition.}

A hear you Ed but surely there a big difference in GMS case it would be a cup final and the Scot Brown's case?

A remember that game well it was a party game type atmosphere the league was won and we were singing "that's why were signing him" when he scored against us can't see that happening if GMS scores against us in a cup final setting

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Nah, I'm not buying that. Dundee Utd are paying his wages, if he's not up to the job he's going to struggle with handling the pressure of playing for the biggest club in Scotland. A CFC player should be like a machine when it comes to winning, sentimental misty eyed nonsense has no place in a successful team and I'd think RD would be disappointed in GMS if he didn't play against us.}

22 Jan 2015 16:03:42
Courtois played against Chelsea in a European cup semi n played brilliant and his team qualified for the final am sure the boy will be fine if selected to play

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok Ed I fully accept your point but if I were a United fan and he "never turned up" for that game (as in playing well) Jackie McN will get pelters for picking him for sure

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know if Jaki Mac would play him if they got to the final. I would want to play players that were 100% Dundee Utd players in a high profile final. What does Jaki say to the player that will replace GMS next season but won't be allowed to play in the Final. Hail Hail

It was only 3 weeks ago everyone was up in arms, some calling for Ronny's head, some just frustrated with the winter results. Now it looks like a full turn around.

I understand people just assume that when a new manager comes in at the start of the season that with in a few weeks the team are into their new routine and everything is hunky doory. That's all said and good if the previous managers training regime and philosophy is the same or similar to the new gaffer. But when a completely different type of manager comes in who wants to reshape not just the team, the way they play and their diets but the whole club it takes more than a few weeks or even a few months.

Now we're seeing the reward of persistence of drilling the players to the way he wants them to play and also the sort of athletes he wants them to be. We look a more attractive and stable team since Strachan left in my opinion. Those biting their tongues at seeing the team play well are now arguing the "not clinical enough" or "not good enough in the final third" patter. Sure we could've scored 10 goals we could've also drew the game or also lost it through a counter attack against Murderwell. It's simply just down to the tactics we are playing against. Attractive fast football can't gather momentum in the final third if teams have 10 players plus the goal keeper on and behind the edge of the box. It takes patience, a mistake or magical pass/passage of play to get to a position of scoring.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Toprig the problem is no matter what Ronny does, the snipers will always be after him.

This faction should get behind him rather than nit pick

Agree1 Disagree0

@Toprig I couldn't agree with you more. All of a sudden a 4-0 win isn't good enough and nobody can moan about the overall performances in the last 3 games. No doubt the Ronny bashers on here will find something to moan about if they turn up. They all seem to disappear when things ar going well.

@DN30 They can always go back to their old favourite whine that they can't see any improvement in the performances. We've said it before pal, they only turn up when there's something to moan about maybe they're choking on their humble pie. I can just see them sitting watching their stream of the game fuming because we won 4-0. Lst night was the best performance since the 6-1 Dundee Utd game and all the Ronny knockers absence on here is no suprise. I knew before I logged in certain posters would be posted mia.

Agree1 Disagree0

So we won 3 games against teams we SHOULD be beating 99 times out of 100?

I want RD to succeed and if you can look back to my posts when he came in I was 100% behind the appointment. The only problem I have is that I am never confident we are going to win games as you never know which team is going to turn up. We are exceptional 1 week and dire the next. This probably wasn't punished in previous seasons but with the league being so tight this year every point dropped looks like a disaster.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right bhoys it's oh so quiet. Now that we are playing well all I hear is, if Sevco win he needs sacked straight away.

Scunnered and embarrassed for some folk.

I hope RD I'd here for a long time so I can see a lot of humble pie being ate

Ed, what's the story on Guidetti, have you heard any rumours that he is for the off?
Also Commons, not at his best again last night, time to move on.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Guidetti can't go anywhere until his loan deal is up in the summer.}

22 Jan 2015 15:11:34
I for one would not mind if guidetti did leave! Decent player but I don't think we should be pining all our hopes on him! Let griffiths get a run of games,and I'll bet he scores just as much as guedetti! Nuthin against the guy but I've got a feelin he'll be one of these players who moves from club to club starting well then fading away! Think with the transfer fee and the wage he would want,it would be better spent elsewhere

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jan 2015 18:52:31
Ed you should phone up Snyde SSB and tell Mark Guidi because that 'jounalist' doesn't seem to know!

But he also said no one could have forseen Rangers going into administration. How has he got a job?

Just thought I would say ed, this must be the quietest transfer window I can remember as far as we are concerned the rumours page has heehaw on it u got any news of comings and going even ones u think are not credible I need something to get excited about lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Every team seems to be quiet this window, it's very difficult to get a transfer sorted in 31 days and a lot of the work being done is in regards to deals for the summer. Hopefully after this weekend we'll see teams trying to push through some deals.}
