I have been heavily critical of Gary Hooper and Samaras, amongst other players on this website. I am man enough to admit I was very wrong and will happily eat my words, they have been fantastic this season, domestically and in Europe!

if all these managers where up tonight [sir furious avb ] and some others what more do they have to see hooper starting and finishing the first shows how alive he can be outside the box aswell as in inside it and his second was sheer class .wanyama is a star in the making. and we have few more who would have raised an eyebrow or two. how much more do they need to see come up with the offer we can't refuse or feck off they are all under long enough contracts thet we don't need to panic sell[or buy] . hope we can keep this squad together till summer and they might all get a chance to play in england .just the once tho

Well that was bloody cold! Decent again in long patches but I get the feeling we are only 60-70% at the moment.Fair play to Hoops, played well all over the park and no doubt this will lead to trying for his move criticism.Pass marks for all I thought though special mention to anybody who froze at the game!.........green jhedi

Believable5 Unbelievable0

The only thing I would say is that Sammy needs to make quicker(and others when hooper was on a run and need a lob pass) passes and at the right time, hate how he always tried to beat 2 guys then pass when it is not there when if he passed it right away we could have a chance on goal. But Sammy is still on fire and no knock on him just needs to think ahead a wee bit

Listening to the radio on the way to the game a couple of guys called in & said we shouldn't play Hooper again & punt him immediately, that was it for the panel from then on our supporters had turned on Hooper & were going to show our disgust & so on? someone connected with spurs had said they bid 8.5m, I know radio snyde is rubbish but the pi*h the panel come away with & the deluded bears has to be heard to be believed at times. Hooper got a great reception tonight & that is how we like it for we support the Celtic

4-0 hail hail.
Winter break works wonders.
Domestic treble surely?
Rangers title stripping tribunal sits a week tomorrow.
Hooper could've had a hat trick, gave it to broony, unselfish.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Been a while since I had photo with three trophies. Would like another. Brings in a pile of cash for the club too. Especially if NL is sitting next to you

Agree3 Disagree0

Op} domestic treble surely .i agree, right now I just can't see who can stop us . but two wee words of caution . last season .. we thought the same last season . and ended up with one . i'm more interested in our biggest game of the season, juve. history dictates that we beat them at home and lose away . 2002 went out 6-6 {away goals} what a round that was.. I think we can beat them over two legs.. one things for sure, won't be as bad as . cheating dead rangers 1, juve 8 .. shammy

He is in there plans, just not ready to outmuscle Tevez, Aguero, balotteli, Dzeko if you rate him! Man city are happy for him to go on loan, I would love to see him in the hoops but to buy your talking more than we will pay!

Spend a wee bit and gamble? But it will be getn looked at and we will also know who else will maybe bid for him! But one other thing, the "supporters" that want Hooper dropped for tonight's game! Your havin a laugh!? Unless he's injured or a bid is going to be accepted in the morning? He plays IMO. The guys done nothing wrong, he's came up, banged the goals in, tried it and Doesnae really like it! He wants to go home! Offer him 35k a week an hell still reject it! Get over it, plain and simple.

Dear "scottish agent" wee Pat and I would like to hire you to get us a move to a bigger English site.
We both feel that on here our profiles should be as big as Green Jhedi or Mrs E which at present they are not.
Pat and I want our talents to be seen by as big an audience as possible, so please contact the Man Utd, Man City and LFC sites on our behalf.(to this end Pat has been learning Mancunian and Scouse, and I have got Jimmy Tarbuck's joke books Timalloy

PS Pat and I are prepared to wait until the summer, but only if given same billing as GJ and Mrs E

He must be able to sort this out, it's only fair as your not askin for more or to be the main man/men! But he has also been "outed" and will he come back in the same capacity? What do people not get about the hooper saga see the amount of people saying give him top dollar or pay him top wages it's got nothing to do with that he wants to play in England plain and simple he said it from day one when he signed so why people are coming on here and slating the boy or slating Celtic board is beyond me people need to wake up and realise that's the way Celtic are operating this won't be the last this happens so accept it and move on wel always get new players in

Hooper is gone.. or will be soon. He really needs to go before the fans turn against him. Looks like we have made a final offer and he's knockrd it back. Lets move on. Find a good replacement .. Austin? Get him in early to play a few games and don't leave it to the last minute. No player is bigger than the club. Thank you Mr Hooper.. your time as a Bhoy is over. You'll never forget your time at Paradise but one thing is sure ... one day you WILL regret moving

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Danny Wilson went to Liverpool and couldn't cut it in the EPL. Jelavic ?.... Who?...... Boyd? .... Who?..... Hutton.... Who?.......

Blowing a chance to be someone special up here Hooperman. Possibly a legend.

Agree2 Disagree2

Why will he regret it even if he comes to Norwich he will be on 35k a week that's 10k a week more plus he is in a more competitive league and he is in England where he wants to be. All Norwich need to do now is agree a fee.

Agree0 Disagree5

I can't see him regretting leaving the spl, I'd rather play in league 1 than the spl

Since Hooper has rejected our final offer of a contract he's done and should never play for Celtic again. If he thinks he's bigger and better than Celtic then he can head back down to England and back to the Championship next season. If he doesn't go this month he shouldn't get near the Juventus game. I'll bet he'll never play Champions League football again.

Anton

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Has hooper came out and said he is bigger and better than celtic. Its the guys own choice where he plays at the end of his contract. he's still scoring goals and playing well. Even if he left mext season for free, 4 seasons at 600k is good money for his goal ratio, and i'm not even a celtic fan.

Agree1 Disagree1

This is exactly the WRONG attitude to take. I fear that some fans may turn on him tonight, and if they do it'll be bang out of order. All the boy wants is to play for his country and if he thinks he has more of a chance at impressing Hodgson by playing in the EPL we should respect that. He has been fantastic for us since the day he signed and despite all the speculation he was brilliant again on Saturday vs Hearts. If continues to give 100% while he's with us we should ALL be fully behind him and give him our best regards when he moves on.

Terrible Beauty

Agree4 Disagree1

I would drop him purely because we should be prepping the team that's going to face juvy hooper won't be here and bringing in a replacement isn't guaranteed so start the preparation now

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jan 2013 17:23:59
why are celtic not paying hooper top dollar 2 stay pay him the same as the top earners

Believable2 Unbelievable2

There is obviously a limit that any club is prepared to pay any player.
There is also a minimum any club is willing to accept for any player.
Hooper was bought for £2.4m and He's contributed well for Celtic, he is a requisite professional, popular, well spoken lad. You've played a blinder with hard negotiations Gary but I don't think you can eke anything more. The club has probably pushed the boat out to keep you. The EPL is a totally different class. Jelavic, Boyd, Hutton, Miller, etc.... All go down there and look very ordinary. Sign up with Celtic lad on this good money on offer, guaranteed European football for say 5 years... Become a legend.

Agree2 Disagree0

£25k is £1.3m a year, that's £5.2m over four years. Plus bonuses etc....
How much is any guy worth in Scottish football. TV money dictates football budgets in every country and our league gets a pittance. If Celtic weren't giants and all Scottish clubs were the same size, say Aberdeen, hearts, Dundee Utd, then no club in Scotland could afford £25k .....

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jan 2013 16:58:03
tv saying we've rejected a second bid and Hooper's rejected a new contract offer, don't know how much he was offered but if it wasn't similar to our highest earners, just offer him what our highest earners are on and get him signed up!

I'm a gooner, and even though I would love Wanyama ( my first choice for that position) I think we'll end up going for Diame. Typical Arsene going for the cheaper option. Just can't see the Wanyama to Arsenal rumours being true.

I posted before about Hooper going with my best wishes. Although he will be a loss to the team it is exactly the type of model our club is trying to produce by buying these players giving them a platform to do well for us and move on at a profit. Unfortunately us bhoys are going to have to get used to this. For me this isn't a bad thing. When that other mob died I was worried about our potential to attract players to the SPL which is being proved wrong. Our club is a great platform for up and coming young players. Hooper will go no doubt then Wanyama and at some point Matthews and Forster but with our scouting and lets not forget our fantastic youth setup I'm excited for the future and look forward to the next group of youngsters.
Hail Hail
Welshbhoy

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I agree but in useing this method we need to set and demand the price. For it to work like Ajax and others we cannot stay within the 8-10 mill cap, for wanyama a true talent and one who will be one of the best players we need to get the 20mill or at least 15 mill plus 25% sell on for us to grow and become an even better and bigger club. Then we will attract the best young talent and might chose us over other English clubs. {Ed007's Note - I like your thinking. Everton paid £15 million for Fellaini from Standard Liege when he was 20/21, Wanyama could easily surpass him and become one of the best DCM in Europe, he is that highly thought of. Wanyama and Tony Watt are two of the most spoke about young players in the game just now.}

Agree2 Disagree1

We seem to keep finding cracking players, credit to our scouting system.

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree ED- the problem with the numbers being spoke about re. Wanyama is that we are about to set a marker. Gary Hooper is slightly diff, given his contract situation, but Wanyama is arguably our best example of our new policy- and if we sell him for say 10million (which is a great profit I admit) then we've told the world that if the best example of this policy is available for 10, then no matter how good Matthews, Forster, Watt etc etc become- they'll be available for less than 10. I have no problem with the new policy, but if you want it to be successful, you need to set a benchmark- not a glass ceiling.

@Green Jhedi 21/1/12 at 23.04......

I think there is more cause for optimism than in your post. Celtic are now well run, our finances are healthy and getting stronger.
With the Ki money, our CL earnings and possibly Hooper, maybe Wanyama transfer fees we should be financially stable for next 2 seasons minimum.
I trust Lawwell to run club right including paying off any debts we have accrued. If the 2 players mentioned also go for say £7m+ each we should still be in a position to sign good players (and offer decent wages)
As for your failing in europe argument, I am more a "glass half full" guy. I agree next season with 3 qualifiers with a guarantee of at least one big team, possibly 2, will be tough, but Celtic are progressing in europe, even if next season we get to Europa League with less money we should still come out on top.
Say we play the 3 home games in CL and earn around £3m from gates, maybe another £1m from CL bonuses, then fail in third game and go into Europa group stages, we still earn about £4m plus 3 more home gates. Potentially earning around £8m+ ok not as great as CL money but with us on a sound financial footing it is still a good return.
But just say we QUALIFY for CL group stages next season then Celtic earn another £20m+
Let us be positive about Celtic and CL.. Timalloy

Hooper should no longer be selected for 1st team, only players who want to play for the club should be considered, Hooper should now be sold, and if he plays tonight I for one will boo his every touch. He wants to go, so sell him now no more medals no more CL games, and he will soon find himself in the championship as he's not as good as everyone makes him out to be and especially what he thinks he is

You are not a true fan of the club I love if you're going to bring negativity to a player who has given us everything....and a player who will make us a very tidy profit if and when he does leave. Just heard on radio that hooper has turned down the latest offer. Getting a bit fed up now of this contract situation with hooper. If he's not going to sign a new deal then we need to move on as a club and get rid. He has been a really good player for us since he came up here but if his heart is set on a move back down south then so be it but if he thinks by signing for a club like Norwich city will enhance his bid for an England call up then I think he'll be sadly mistaken as after watching them on tv several occasions this season with the lack of quality and service he'd get there then I think he'll be lucky not to be back playing in the championship never mind the epl.

Disguted with the Celtic board and hierarchy on this one.
Gary Hooper is quite right to reject the new contract in my opinion as he has more than enough repaid Celtic who paid 2.4m for him.
After raking in excess of 25m from the cl they can't even offer the guy a bumper deal which he deserves and the fans aswell?
Nope sorry i'm with Hooper on this one I would do the exact same thing, its not a question of money, its the fact he is being treated unfairly and should be right up there amongst our highest earners or even our highest paid.
Fans let down again......

Others will come and go every bit as good as Gary, its the nature of the game in Scotland that a business plan like this is in place to safe guard the future of Celtic FC .....TTTS

This talk of wenger looking to place a bid in for wanyama is doing my head in, fair enough it looks like hooper won't be here after the transfer window I can understand that with his contract running down, selling both players before the last 16 against juve is criminal. Belfastbhoy

I can't see Big Vic moving before summer tbh. I also have a sneaky feeling that he might head to Europe rather than the EPL.........green jhedi

Hope so for our sakes gj if he went during this window it would be a hard pill to swallow. Now if he holds of till atleast the summer that would be brilliant. the sooner this window closes the better mate. Belfastbhoy

ED007; You should have a look at our favourite p**h stained ex reporter today! It seems Celtic and Mr Lawwell are in a flap about the success of the The rangers share issue. We are heading south to find out why no one invested in us and it seems we are running scared of the investment plans of The rangers! Another puff piece for Green and more unhealthy obsessing about Mr Lawwell............green jhedi {Ed007's Note - I read it there GJ, I actually don't know any The Rangers fans that believe a word he says any more, he is a source of constant embarrassment amongst the ones I know.
Since he backtracked on his feelings towards CG's takeover, all to allow him to sell his book about some old bigot Rangers once had as manager, at Ibrox, he has lost any shred of intellectual credibility he had, although he has gained a few new friends inside Ibrox with his new found support (and financially driven) for CG's Lambeg beating, knuckle-dragger attracting, regime.}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

ED007; For me he is the epitome of the anti Celtic press we suffered in this country for years.Can anybody honestly say this guy would ever have given Celtic credit for anything when he was a mainstream reporter? The anti Celtic/Irish streak in him is getting more noticeable sadly.I agree with you re the fans of The rangers, it seems his book launch in the loudon(i know!) was a shambles with hardly anyone there to actually listen to him!............green jhedi {Ed007's Note - I heard about that, sadly my ticket must have got lost in the post. Even decent minded The Rangers fans who want the club to distance themselves from self-serving bigots like him and his ilk are now being called 'The Enemy Within', agree with him or be lambasted in his rantings.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Seen as it was about Celtic, I had a wee read just incase we were to blame again for the absence at New Year of ˜his' homemade shortbread. This ˜person' is an out & out clown.

There are so many things wrong with what he is saying, you would have to be beyond gullible to believe it.

Celtic are financially stable and have been for sometime, they are in the last 16 of the CL, have a squad that is sellable and a youth team that has been invited to play in UEFA's prestigious Next Gen competition for the past 2 season.

Charles Green's £5.5m purchase is new & these investors are expecting a return for their money.

His purchase will need investment in the team for a start, for goodness sake the squad is that threadbare, they have no youth team in the U20 league. (I'm not sure about any other youth league)

Why would Celtic jeopardise their financial stability for £17m from unknown blue Chip investors who have no interest in Celtic as a football team when they can get that just by qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League ? ~ Mrs E

Agree2 Disagree0

LOL! The enemy within! Comedy gold bond. Mrs E, we all know that but he has got to appeal to his target audience and we know who they are.Make no mistake this clown has been recruited by green to spout this nonsense, it is very obvious as is green! As ED says a huge percentage of fans of The rangers are distancing themselves from this has-that's-never-been.Seems his latest lie is the tie in with Mariners, they say they "would not entertain an academy with a team in the fourth tier of Scottish football" Seen it mentioned in the press? nah, not a chance............green jhedi

If we sell Hooper and, or Wanyama, I will expect every penny of the transfer fees to be used to improve the team, surely the money from the champions league and the sale of Ki has helped balance the books (and then some), as a fan I want to see the best team we can afford on the park and not keep hearing about how healthy our books are looking.

I don't want to spend to the extent the old Rangers did, but I don't want us to be sitting with Millions sitting in the bank doing nothing,

As I have said before, I know we will primarily buy young unknown players with the view to sell on at a large profit, but I would like to see us buying at least one experienced centre back, a proven defender and I would also like to see an experienced striker/playmaker,
Experience is the difference between us dropping silly points and us going on a 10+ unbeaten run

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Worst case scenario; Tumble out of Europe and don't get even Europa cup group stage.Season books affected and income slows.what then? We have to trust Mr Lawwell, his record dictates that surely?............green jhedi

Agree1 Disagree1

The money from the champions league is in the bag, that would take care of any worst case scenario", when do we reap the benefits of buying low and selling high,

As I said I don't want us to go daft and go on a £30/40 million spending spree, I just think if we are selling players for the amount that's getting quoted and we have all this money from the champions league then I think it should be spent on the team,

i think the attitude of looking at worst case scenarios is a recipe for a constant average squad

Maestro08

Agree1 Disagree0

@ Maestro08; I see your point mate but remember big fee players want big fee wages, we know who's to blame for that.As for reaping the benefits we are doing so now.Sadly in these times a healthy balance sheet is very important. We are only a couple of years into this project, light years ahead of The rangers who will be our main competition eventually, and the ffp rules are not far away.............green jhedi

Hey Bhoys and Ghirls,
am I the only one getting fed up of all the hooper talk ? if gary hooper has refused another contract offer from the hoops then a bid of 7 million pounds from anybody should be enough to sell this player good as he is we should sell him in this window!
we arent going to get charlie austin for anything less than 5-6 million or maybe more we should in my opinion go for agueldo (spelling) and johnny russell ... slate me if you will but johnny russell is a real class act and good with both feet with pace and strength and has that something about him! the americann looks a real talent and at 6ft 1 has all the attributes .

His agent will realise that's his bargaining tool. I think he may be waiting to see who comes in, if he does not fancy it then sign again on more money till summer, and lets be honest I would be surprised if Norwich turned his head. What cannot happen is his agent trying to play us...........green jhedi

was just wondering if anyone else watched Gary Mackay Stevens ball juggling feat at the weekend. He said later that it was something he thought should be seen more in todays game. The boy is a born entertainer anyone who can have the oppossing fans up off thier feet applauding his audacity is someone we should be looking at if and when Hooper goes the money should be reinvested in part on this boy he is the type of player who puts bums on seats. He could and I say could be the next Lubo and god we would have loved to get him at 20 wouldn't we.

Hooper refuses to sign new contract ! Poor show in my eyes, for the sake of a few extra quid he would sell out to go to norwich! He can go in my eyes ! Scored some amazing vital goals! now he will never be heard of again! What a waste of talent !

This may not be a popular post but I reckon if Danny Wilson plays well during his loan spell at Hearts we should consider signing him in the Summer (fairly sure his contract is up). Hasn't worked out for him at Liverpool, too much too soon like Liam Miller. Centre of defence is still our weakest area of the team so could be a good move

LM67 {Ed007's Note - He is actually an awful player mate, he was known as The Defender Who Can't Defend during his time at LFC. All the furore about him leaving Rangers was bollocks IMO, Rangers were rubbing their hands at the money they got for a very average player.}

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Aye and the deceased, real Rangers certainly never got the 5 million stated when he left. 2.5 or 3 milion at the most as he never met any of his performance based clauses. League appearances, International caps etc. FLOP!

Agree3 Disagree1

I watched Wilson with interest on Saturday as he had been so highly rated up here.My conclusion? As a rangers player he was receiving very good press, rangers to make up to £5m etc, but he was very average on Saturday. Poor distribution and positioning and just not very solid.........green jhedi

Although I like Gary Hooper, if wants a move give him a move. We make money from selling players and he is one that is in demand. I would genuinely be upset if we let go of Wanyama before Hooper. In my opinion Wanyama would need to be replaced right away, but I think that Hooper's boots could be filled a little easier (SPL especially).
Great goalscorer, but I feel that many of his goals (outside of UCL) could have been scored by Watt or Stokes. Am I nuts, or does this make sense to others?

Has any one noticed a worrying trend in the threads re CL qualification? We need to lose this mindset as we are not guaranteed the group stages.Next season we face three qualifiers, even in the champions route we will probably face a real quality side on the third one, but some fans seem to be taking qualification for granted. On posts regarding Hoopers ambition, re naming The Park and finance, this crops up regularly. This is dangerous. All we are doing is heaping pressure on the players and raising expectations of the fans. The downside of this is if, and it's only an if, we don't qualify then the sense of disappointment will linger for months. This could be very damaging to the level of support our team need. For me we are still building, the signing of Rogic proves that, and we have the right people in key areas of the club.We played well on Saturday, attendance 48k, coincidence? I think not. Lets not handicap ourselves before a season kicks off............green jhedi

GJ: I have posted on next years CL Qualifiers already this season - not wanting to sound pessimistic but realistic.
We need to keep perspective. This seasons qualification was an unexpected bonus. By all means this years experience will help us next season - but I have a feeling we will end up having to beat a far greater opponent than Helsingborgs to qualify.
Once we go into into the realms of planning finances/contracts on POTENTIAL Champions League money it becomes dodgy - in fact, did a team that used to play out of Govan not try that? What happened to them?
(Before folk start replying that we won't go bust, or we need to speculate to accumulate, or Lawell is stashing the money: that was a wee joke, so save your keyboard)..............kbt1978
