Watching the Spurs and Swansea game a couple of questions questions came to mind. Firstly, do our players work hard enough on their game? Both of these teams players seemed to be considerably more comfortable on the ball than ours. Every pass was tamed and moved quicker than we do. They also seemed to get up the pitch faster than us, something that annoys me weekly.Even when passing sideways the back four move forward to accept passes from midfield.This obviously pushes the whole team up and gives us numbers in the midfield, which allows middle players to force the play.

This leads me to the second question.Is our coaching progressive enough? Why do our players seem so rigid in the way we go about moving forward? It seems to me that our shape needs to be changed to allow us more freedom when moving forward.I thought that during the CL run we might have learned some lessons, particularly v Juve at Celtic park when their front men gave us a lesson in movement, but we seem to be standing still. Inverness may be the perfect team to face after Tuesday as they will be organised and confident, defend in numbers, and try to counter us.We need to start planning for Wednesday on Saturday.Be interesting to see the line up. green jhedi

I agree totally also too many one footed players in our team mulgrew and ledley to name a couple

Agree0 Disagree0

Very good post with some excellent and highly relevant points.

Some people put forward the argument that the poor quality of our league and the lack of opposition impacts negatively on the quality of Celtics performances. If this is a contributing factor then it is up to the coaching staff and players to overcome this. One strategy deployed by world class coaches (Jock Stein, Alex Ferguson, Don Revie) was to ensure that everyday training was carried out at a high tempo and intensity. The players were then expected to carry this tempo and intensity into match days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another top player pining for the glorious Celtic Park. I think it is true, him amongst others. HH ShottsBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree ict is a good test. They are a decent side and will be coming with adding points on their mind. Adds to the intensity of the week. I'm hoping to see a motivated squad concentrating on getting the job done. The defeat in kaz has to be a lesson learned.

Ed what do you think the chances are of Celtic signing Finnbogason if we qualify for the CL on Wednesday?

Evening ed, bhoys and Ghirls

Looking for an opinion, what's the thoughts on Celtic so far in the transfer window, no one can say DD and PL didn't know wanyama and hooper were going to leave maybe Wilson was a surprise but they knew in advance, so why was figures not set out for Lennon and solid transfer targets instead of bidding for players and getting nowhere.

Just have to look at spurs the way they have conducted themselves is excellent everyone at tht club knows bales off and throughout the window the have invested the money without actually having it, so far if the sign Willian it will be £120 million, which is what they are looking for bale to go to Madrid for, doubt tht will happen maybe at most £95 million which would mean money out of there pocket £25 million, if you drop that to celtic figures why couldn't celtic conduct there window like this, am not saying spend all the money they get just invest a decent amount before we are in the position we are just now with play off tie.

It's so frustrating but will always support my team, hope for a good turn out next week, myself and a group of mates all heading along to watch the bhoys overturn the score.

Hail Hail {Ed007's Note - Hi Cumby, nice to hear from you mate.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Been busy with a lot of things ed that's why not much posts recently, hope everything is well with you ed?

Just looking for that one signing that catches my eye, not a marquee signing cause they never work, more a player who has experience and a bit if consistence especially and decent forward to compliment our strikers we have! {Ed007's Note - I'm fine thanks bud. I think we are all holding our breaths to see who else is brought in. There is no point of bringing in someone like Boerrigter to supply quality into the box if there is nobody there to put them away.}

Agree0 Disagree0

In short mate TV money. When you are dealing in the figures the Premiership do you can easily plan ahead. Why did Lenny buy Balde if he does not think he is first team ready? He knew Hooper was for the off so why blow over £1m plus wages off the striker budget? There is also Banguarra.Over £2m plus wages on him. Lawwell is an easy target but these were buys, I assume, Lenny asked for. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Cumbybhoy I can see were your coming from regarding Spurs but what would happen if say Bale failed a fitness test, where would that leave Spurs then. As regard's Celtic bidding and getting nowhere the player need's to want to come mate.

See the slug looking for clarification again and veiled threats of naming a hundred or more people involvled in betting unlawfully. I see other managers saying they were well aware or the rules regarding this so its just mcoist again surprise eh!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Col, no the surprise was that HE said he obviously would not name any of the 100. Is that so he will remain a good guy in all these player's eye's. The other thing that tickled me was they would only be betting £5 or £10.
Tamboy

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see anything wrong with players betting, as long as they are not allowed to bet on a competition they are involved in.

I've just watched ally mccoist on tv sport asking for clarification on the rules for betting. I think the rules are in black and white, it's not allowed, for him to wave a piece of paper with "over 100 names of players and officials that his team flung together" is churlish and misguided. Rules are rules and anyone breaking them should be pulled up. This is turning into his " tell me their names" quote. Unbelievable

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I found the word 'officials' very interesting. On snyde fat derek was banging on about ladbrokes. I have not seen any mention of the betting company involved in any report I have seen. McCoist also said someone had taken ten minutes to find the names on the list, how exactly was this achieved? . green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

What the "Sleekit One" (McCoist ) is actually saying is, "this is sevco, we your the peepil", you'll have to change the rules. again!

22 Aug 2013 18:24:50
I see Sneaky is up to his tricks again . What false horrible **** he is . Why is he holding up what looks to be blank pieces of paper but claims its a list of players and officials who are betting on football . He says his players handed the list to him 10 mins earlier and contains hundreds of names outwith Sevco who are at the betting on football games . SFA rules state that no betting is allowed whatsoever on football games . But Sneaky claims he hadn't heard of them . He really is a piece of work . Wouldn't be surprised if Jabba orchestrated the whole thing . DH {Ed007's Note - The Slug is exactly that DH, slime. He has no class or even any self respect left. He has shown his true colours over the last couple of years, a complete snivelling rat. He can take the moral high-ground all he wants but his mask of the 'cheeky chappy' slipped long ago.
His 'charity' jaunt to the USA again proves that you couldn't mark his bloated neck with a blowtorch, first-class flights for his son paid for by the charity ffs!
McCoist is showing the world that all he is now is a vile, bitter and twisted little man. He is no better than his friend, the disgusting The Rangers/Sevco kitman/bus driver and bigot Jimmy Bell.
It's because of these exact type of people The Rangers/Sevco deserve no sympathy. The old 'issues' are still rife behind the scenes, don't let anyone kid you otherwise.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't have put it better myself Ed . I watched the entire interview earlier and he just never fails to amaze me . Always the victim . Always playing to his mates in the media with his false Sean Connery accent . The interview was very similar to the naming of the three people on the panel fiasco not long ago . Although he said he would never name the names on the list who's to say they could be passed on to somebody who would IE Ian Black . What did he say " boys from the west of Scotland don't scare easily " . Boys from the west of Scotland don't act like snidey grasses either . DH

Agree0 Disagree0

I enjoy a wee flutter and i'm married to an even bigger gambler however I never bet against Celtic and my hubby (the Rangers fan) never bets against Rangers.

Ally has a player who has been accused of betting against Rangers but he thinks the biggest issue is the SFA rules? I'd want to know why my player was betting against his own team!

Ally is an out and out clown of a guy that has sat back and done nothing as 2 conmen took 'his' Club for an absolute ride so his latest comments come as no surprise ~ Mrs E

I think its quite clear that when C G isn't there to throw out the ridiculous distraction comments they send mccoist out to do it instead. How any rangers fan with an I Q Above 30 doesn't realise that this guy has been in on it all along is beyond me. Keep the attention on anything but the finances until they can flog their shares. Simples!

Benedict {Ed007's Note - There can't be many that have an IQ of over 30 in the first place.}

Agree0 Disagree0

DH spot on he's nothin more than a wee fat baldy grass, with a red bloated kneck(ed's words pure gospel), ., .kbarry

And by the way what would that fat pampered clown know about glesga bhoys?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed! Loved your words on sally and jimmy bell really loved em, and the bit about "no sympathy" great. But could you tell me why you allow the posts from george about saving his club on this page,, just wondering, ., .kbarry {Ed007's Note - Do you honestly think it will come to anything? The poor guy will end up at Ibrox with the usual rabble of knuckle-draggers carrying about their oxygen tanks of Blackthorn! The Rangers/Sevco fans are still ardent fans of the site and if I didn't post it I would just be lowering myself to their level of propaganda. I think we can all see George is a decent enough guy and as passionate as and CFC fan, it's just a shame that he will find out the hard way that he is in the minority amongst them. I know how hard it is to get people to listen to you and get things like this off the ground. I was trying to be a nice guy!}

Agree0 Disagree0

The man is just a slug. He is not even funny any more. It used to be you could laugh at some of his antics but he really is a poor excuse for a human being. If the wad of paper he waved around is genuine then he actually went around players asking them for names! Pathetic liitle runt. ("C'mon boys we need yi awae tae shop yir mates so as we urny re oanly wans in the chit!") He, like many managers, should be gagged from speaking about any subject other than the football side of things.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really sure why we are getting bent out of shape about this betting thing and the rules. I thought we had all learned that the rules don't apply to sevco. If there is any problem with the rules causing a negative effect on that team then it's simple - change the rules accordingly. That's seems to be the norm these days. Ach maybe I'm just getting cynical in my auld age.

Agree0 Disagree0

@8 - Quite agree Ed. Do not lower your standards just because they don't have any.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gents although this is a rumour site, I'm getting fed up with all these possible signings that evaporate into thin air, I put up the rumour about innocent emagherra but as usual he has went elsewhere . Celtic may not have made a bid for him fair enough but there are 10 days left of the transfer market and we need a few players in the club are cutting it thin time wise . I will be disheartened if the club don't bring in a striker at least or if they choose the lazy option with a loan player who doesn't want to be here .

Chalky bhoy!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't understand waiting until or if we qualify for champs league to do our buisness because by the time the second leg is over there is about 3 or 4 days left of the window and clubs will just put prices up because they will know we are desperate I think the most we are going to get and it annoys the life out of me is a couple of loans

Celtic may not sign Alfred Finnbogason, but I am confident we will return with a fresh offer for him IF we qualify for the Champions League. The attraction would be too big for him to turn down. If he wanted to leave Heerenveen I'm sure we would be able to strike a deal with them despite all of this talk in the press that he's worth X million euros/pounds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I read today somewhere (can't remember where) that park said he wasn't worth the £5m, so unless henerveen drop their asking price DRAMATICALLY celtic will not be back.

I heard we are in for Innocent from Siena, and that Lennon wants to bring in another 3-4 players, most likely going to be a centre back, a left back for cover, a playmaker and maybe a young aspiring player. Hopefully if we can over turn the Shakter result we can bring in a few big names. I'd like to see Fletcher coming in after his Sunderland bust up, maybe bring in ibrahima from inter as left back cover, Strootman from psv for centre mid and a big name.

What you think Ed?

~TheIrishhWizard~ {Ed007's Note - Kevin Strootman has signed for Roma for a fee of 17m Euros rising to 20m Euros with add ons. Wouldn't he have been a big enough name for you?}

Not much of a rumour but more of a thought. Spurs are really strengthening their forward line with a few lads surely to be surplus. Defoe maybe being one of them. I don't know why celtic scower for penny pinching deals we are simply becoming a sell on club. Also if there is any truth in the Elmander going to norwich I bet Hopper musty be feeling pretty silly

22 Aug 2013 12:49:55
There are obviously a lot of thoughts after the result the other night and Green Jhedi and The Patient have put up good posts with a lot of common sense and thought behind them.
I don't want to be too negative and let's get one thing straight I always have done and always will support Celtic no matter what level we're at and I too have seen some grim times and great times but for all the history and pride we have in our club we're in the here and now.
Firstly no-one is asking PL to put our clubs future at risk by spending tens of millions on players but when we've taken in so much money over the last couple of years and lost our best players is it too much to ask for one or two decent signings?
Yes I know Scottish football is not the best and we might struggle to get the quality players we crave but you can't tell me that no player in the £3 to £4 million mark wouldn't consider coming to us, nor can we use that as an excuse. We struggled against Elfsborg and got humiliated by Karagandy. How many good players do these teams have and how good is their leagues?
We now stand to lose £12million if we don't qualify and drop into the Europa? Is that good business practise when buying a decent striker and centre half (not a work in progress like we seem to be buying these days) would have made all the difference? I certainly don't think so
Anyway we are where we are and like I say regardless I will get behind the team 100% and pray we get through

Gary

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The middle of your post sums it up mate, Scottish football is poor.There is also the lifestyle thing to consider.Then there's wages.Since Bosman players, and sadly their agents, have all the power in any negotiations. As you say against Elfsborg we were not great but got the job done.The other night we were poor and suffered for it. This suggests we are moving backwards and that's a worry.

The way we play worries me.We are very slow and ponderous in possession.Our movement and desire to actually show for a pass is questionable as well. In short we are very predictable.This might be due to Lenny being to loyal to some players.But it has to stop and quickly. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

If used the right way, being a sell on club would be seen as an asset to good young players with higher ambitions. Some trophies and and a level of showcase few other club could provide.

hey ho folks
I have deliberately kept posting to a minimum (if any) recently because in amongst everything which has been posted recently, all my issues were covered.

however I wanted to add my tuppence worth in so here it goes;

Tuesdays match was Embarrassing. Full Stop! Bitching about selections and tactics can't change it, the problem I have however is this doesn't seem to have been a one off. The Aberdeen game despite the result was garbage, Sammy as a loan striker is a joke, he is never a striker! He's an effective winger I.M.O

The playing of favourites despite form or recent performances is another thing which grips my rubbish! Certain players need to spend time on the bench instead of stealing a jersey from someone who's prepared to put themselves in harms way for the team. this includes the likes of Forrest, Izzy Mulgrew etc.

People pay there money and are entitled to have their say but at the end of the day the club is in a healthy position and is being well run but surely we as fans are not asking for much when we want a proven goalscorer to replace our leading goalscorer for the last 3 years? Surely the board must be answerable IF we end up not getting through to the group stages against a lesser team, now we have no divine right to beat anyone but surely its not beyond the realms of expectation to be able to beat this mob? I'm not for one moment suggesting we start a sack the board or sack Lenny petition but surely the least we are entitled to is an honest statement of why we didn't get players in we have so obviously been after for a long time. Also an apology for the inept performance wouldn't go amiss.

All we can do as fans is hope that we go out next week and give this mob a right roasting, let's be honest this team is no better than what we face in our domestic league and there have been better teams come to Celtic Park and had their arses handed to them on a plate!

Bring on next week!
HH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

While I agree with the essence of what HH says, I cannot personally put Charlie into the same bracket as James Forrest. Charlie's a centre half moonlighting as a left sided midfielder, while James is doing what he's best at. ? Jonbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Jonbhoy. Charlie's a centre half and not a midfielder. play the guy where he's best and drop forrest.

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a problem with Charlie Mulgrew.

In my opinion Charlie does not have the first touch, turn of pace, vision or creativity to make any kind of positive impact in midfield.

On the other hand in my opinion Charlie doesn't have the 'dig', or 'nastiness' required to be a top class central defender.

In my opinion the only position Charlie is capable of competing for would be left back.

Good luck George; if more of you had protested and demanded the truth from the beginning the culprits may have been ousted and your club saved?
The media have also done a great job of cover-up and propaganda work to confuse most of the people a lot of the time, but I sincerely wish you well.

A great post from The Patient, and the usual sense from 007 down the page, should be read by some of the posters. Maybe it's an age thing but we seem to have a section of our support who think that the CL is the be all and end all of this club.It is not.

From 1967 to the early to mid seventies we were a genuine European force.Some decent results since then seen us kind of cling to our European pedigree.We became a team who no-one really wanted to draw as we would be no pushover and Celtic Park was classed as a difficult venue.But the fact is the bigger European teams still fancied going through over the two legs.

Sadly times have changed in the world of European football.The gap between where we as a club are and the CL regular last sixteen is huge. Every now and again a team will sneak through, last year was our turn.Lets get one thing straight.As unpalatable as it is we are not a CL side. Yes we have one of the most remarkable histories in the game.Yes we have a huge fan base spread all over the world.The thing is in the modern game this means nothing.

For every fantastic European result I have seen, and there has been a few, there is a nightmare defeat.The one constant throughout these European adventures have been us, the fans. I was born into Celtic.I have loved the club since my first game in 1966. I have seen great players, in some cases truly world class, wear the hoops.I have seen players who should not have worn the hoops of Queens Park.I have sat on freezing December days with a crowd of 14k playing Clydebank and I have been in the sun of Seville with eighty thousand of us.

The other night we were poor and the line up could be questioned.We are allowed to ask questions because we put much more into the club than ANY player.You might also question Lawwell.Why? He does not put the team on the pitch and has been trying to get players in.Lets get it right. I remember the old regime now there was a board to criticize!
They scored two goals that could and should have been prevented.We also could and should have scored at least two.But the inquest is over now.What we need is a packed to the rafters Celtic Park scaring the life out of this team, and in particular their keeper who looked spooked the other night.

Who's up for it? Games like this are what supporting Celtic is all about. On nights like this we are all part of it.Personally I can't wait to get at them.If we fail I will criticize and question. I will not get personal and with any player or Lenny.But I will be at the next game as usual.I support Celtic, not Celtic in the CL. green jhedi

In the days your referring to, we produced most of our own players. Now we buy most of them. Any link? JB

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant argue with any of that green jhedi I think if we can't turn this side over next Wed we don't deserve to be in europe. Unfortunately the days of us and other small countries doing well in cl are over The bigger countries have made sure of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is there are no celtic men in the team just now the teams your talking about had players that would have pulled the hoops on for nothing .Ican go back to the fifties and sixties great players with skill and courage I don't need to name them just read the history .There was no fight or spirt in the team on tues night a leader on the field is needed next week we can but hope Meagle Tim

I go back too, but my memory is unimpaired. Until Jock's team beat Dunf. in Cup Final. I had never watched CELTIC win anything. I wonder which of these do or die Celts I missed. Was it Turner or Carroll or maybe Maxwell? JB

Agree0 Disagree0

Thing is meagle tim, no one has ever played for nothing and col I've heard this before "if we can't win this tie then we don't deserve CL" thing is we do as fans our best 3 players were taken and not replaced, we are being fleeced/conned so waken up, ., .kbarry

There's no point in speculating who will be brought in at the minute as new signings hinge on Champions League qualification. I understand Lennon wants three new players - primarily a striker. Celtic also want to bring in replacements for Wilson and Wanyama. We may bring in one or two if we drop into the Europa League, but it's doubtful we will spend very much.
