Just putting it out there, I'm Ronny daft. I think this man could create something very special with decent backing. The team are looking fit and full of flair and I just hope the board back him in the summer as he has earned that. Also, good to see what a 3pm Saturday kick off and decent weather can do for getting a healthy crowd. A winter break is a must for me

I wouldn't count on much support from the board next summer . Deila knew before he came to Celtic, and he even knows better now that Celtic cannot buy their way to success. Ronny will expect the players we have to improve and Deiia will strive to sign one or two players for targeted positions . Hopefully we won't lose many players who are important to us but at the same time move on those who are not contributing

22 Mar 2015 07:42:58
Chris02 I think the board will give Deila some money, not a lot and be more focused on signing players on bosmans.

Im shure they will give him a bit bigger transfer kitty next season, but not shure if he will buy big anyhow. Think he will replace players if leaving, but instead do outmost to keep the once he has.
Must say how cool it is to see how much you have taken a shine to him. Think he has the time of his life.

I can see RD getting about the same sort of support as NL to be honest. My group was about done with our money men - getting fed up of our 'transfer policy'. However the appointment of RD put them right back in our good books. Like any manager I just hope he gets the right support to bring in the required level of player - players who have a pedigree or those that have European and International experience. Basically players that will come straight into the first team thus improving the squad. I'm sure some of the Forster money and what will be still left over from Wanyama added to whatever we get for Virgil with a sprinkle of ambition could be used to get 3 quality players in. Even bosmans who are on bigger wages could prove a very interesting prospect. Just hope it happens because I genuinely think RD could be the man not to waste a really good side given what he is showing he can get from our already decent young squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2015 15:26:52
I think RD is not stupid we will get players in for sure this summer I would be surprised if any of us know of them and they will come cheap but IF they are RDs targets then I am confident that they will be good players becoming great players

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2015 15:40:12
JimJim the money got on transfer fees goes in part towards replacement players but a lot of it goes on maintaining the high standard of facilities for the players fitness and comfort . The board can back a manager by throwing money at squad building, or by making the club a better place to come to develop their career . We may have to sign centre halfs next window, but after that most players should be coming through .

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2015 17:47:41
Chris I know money gets spent on things other than transfers and fees but at the same time we have more revenue than just transfer fees received. My point is that I don't think we should just keep buying the same sort of level of player. Can't see the point, for eg, of spending £2m on a player, developing them and giving them exposure to sell them on for 4/5-fold, only to go and buy another £2m player. It's not really progress on the park, just on the balance sheets. We certainly need two centre halves. But what about up top? We've bought too many £1-2m strikers. They aren't CL strikers who can get you 5 or 6 group stage goals. I just think instead of 3 players, spend all that money on one, more proven, more likely to be better player. Like I said we already have a good basis for a squad. there's a number of players we're yet to see the best of but in each department we could do with more quality. All that seperated us from Inter was individual quality. Guarins strike and Gordons errors. It certainly, as was the case in the past before RD, wasn't our approach or method.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2015 19:25:26
I agree with you jim, we have spent quite a bit of money on Pukki, Balde, Scepovic, and a few others, it has been money wasted. If we'd lumped their fees together and bought a better quality striker, we may have done a bit better over the last couple of years.
Also, I don't see why we couldn't improve a slightly more expensive player, which would mean we would get an even bigger price for him if we sold him on.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2015 23:29:19
We have bought players for around a million and sold them for £10m . What is the point of buying a player at £9 m, as a replacement and him flopping . It has happened to far more expensive players than £9 m . What about Floe, whom the dead club paid out over £12 m. and they couldn't give him away without paying a lump of his wages for years . We are all Celtic fans, we know except for a couple of years when MO'N came we have never tried to build a team from big transfers .
Certainly Deila is not going to risk the camadarie and team work he has built up, by buying even Celtic standards, expensive players . Deila has surrounded himself with top back up people from Ireland, Scotland and Norway including medical personnel . I think he will be expecting plenty of board support in these areas so that when our players join up with players from other clubs, they will realise how big Celtic are and how well Celtic look after the players .

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2015 05:26:53
And its pure coincidence that MO'Ns team got to a European final isn't it Chris. I'm not saying 9m, perhaps just 4-6m sort of bracket on the right players. Or box man's on a higher wage. It's also no coincidence thatour best and most consistent player is currently still our most expensive.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Mar 2015 21:19:30
MO'N side got to the UEFA Cup final. Fair enough but his spending threatened the existence of the club and there has been10 years of austerity trying to get the club back in a good financial state . It also meant that Celtic have had to spend an open fortune on CEO Peter Lawwell, to bring our financial situation under control.

What did we win in 2003, after O'Neil's spending spurge . Nothing, not one single trophy .
But what it did do was bring us Sutton and Larsson to Celtic, who have this season tried their best to destroy Deila .

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Mar 2015 11:27:45
I'd rather see us invest in quality rather than quantity. You're contesting me. Not sure why but hey ho. Suttons 'column' has no relevance to his quality as a player. The BS about spending on quality over quantity sending us into financial ruin is something PL would love you to champion. We currently have three strikers out on loan whilst our 'first choice' striker is in on loan. Nothing the matter with that is there. No. let's carry on then.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Mar 2015 22:51:14
Jim Jim, go back to your Commitee 🐹 . Our first choice striker this year is Griffiths, Guidetti who is on loan plays a bit part role for Celtic since Christmas. Whether you pay £2 m, £4m or £6m for a striker you are not guaranteed a good striker .
I don't understand your logic that by paying more you will get better . It's sheer nonsense to rate a player's ability on his price .
People who study transfer prices know that the value at any time is based on the length of time left on contract as well as the need his club has to sell, as well as ability

Jim Jim remember our very expensive signing and well paid Sutton, who at the height of battle in a Rangers game sold himself, and handed the ball twice within seconds to get himself sent off . None of our less expensive signings ever let us down as badly .

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Mar 2015 07:20:43
Chris of course transfers are a risk. There are good deals to be had. There are also clubs that throw money away. let's not beat around the bush though. Generally speaking, would you not agree you tend to get what you pay for?

Think you're either missing or dodging my salient point. We are CURRENTLY wasting money by bringing in several players that, partially due to how much they have cost, have not made an impact. Putting that money together on one player is no more of a risk.

Amido Balde cost two million. Think of a striker you'd like us to sign and just ask how much he's likely to cost.

Hi Ed have you heard of Iver Fossum? I've been following Ronnys old team for a while now watching to see what if any talent he might go back for, This boy looks a real talent! a box to box midfielder 18 years old, I see tonight he has scored a hat trick in a friendly.watched him on YouTube reminds me of Johanson full of energy very raw talent but seems to run all day! Did a bit of reading up on him lost his dad in a tragic car crash when he was 14, Ronny helped him through things gave him his first team debut.He obviously knows all about him but I wonder if he will go back for him. By all accounts Real Madrid have asked to be kept in the loop. Do you know of any interest?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've heard about him, read about him and watched the videos but that's all I know mate, I'll try and find out a bit more. Do you think in 4/5 years time if RD is still here we'll be producing players of this calibre?

21 Mar 2015 23:35:43
I would like to see us produce players of the same calibre of Ajax considering we are supposed to have one of the best youth facilities in the UK.

Am I being too delusional here?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think you're being delusional at all. I definitely think we will see an upsurge in the young talent coming through after a couple of years and beyond, it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to under RD, well that and all the trophies.}

22 Mar 2015 00:08:27
For me its all about attitude. We have the facilities, a good league to blood young talent and European exposure. I think the hardest thing will be keeping RD when the big money comes calling. But make hay while the sun shines, and he defiantly comes across as a decent mentor which these young guys need.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Remember RD's only 39, Joe, he could spend 5-10 years here and still be in his prime as a manager. For the first time in my life the CFC manager is younger than me - I've never felt so old ;(

22 Mar 2015 00:28:55
I think you are right Ed. Part 1of Deila's progression ( SPL domination) seems well on the road to completion . Part 2 is Champions League participation and we have to wait until late Summer early Autumn to evaluate that. I expect next season and subsequent seasons Ronny will fill more and more holes in the squad from young players from within . He won't bring them in until they are ready, note Henderson is just getting a taste of first team . I think Ronny wants to prove to himself, the Celtic club and football at large just what he can achieve . Celtic a sleeping giant, in a poor league, but a club recognised throughout the world gives him a wonderful opportunity to build his team .

22 Mar 2015 08:10:15
Ive been saying that Iver Fossum would be a fantastic signing for you. Only 18 years, but allready a first team starter for Godset but been a first team regular since the age of 16. He was runners up for the young player of the year only beaten by (of course) Martin Ødegaard. Check out Gustav Wikheim also Chris02. I would also check out Markus Henriksen. Az Alkmar player, scored in his last 4 games and MOTM 3 times in four as a CAM.

22 Mar 2015 08:45:44
BTW, Fossum scored all three goals for Strømsgodset against Vålerenga yesterday.

22 Mar 2015 09:24:44
The boy looks a talent indeed and yeah looks industrious like Johansen.

We were in for Henriksen and missed out I reckon as he's settled in at AZ very well.

I'm the same as those looking forward to the benefits of RD and McGuiness long term. Really does make me comfortable to think after a good few too many seasons now of people bleeting on about future this future that - our future does actually have some promise.

{Ed007's Note - I turn 41 in May. I remember a time when I thought 40 was ancient!}

22 Mar 2015 11:06:57
I feel your pain old ed. I feel bad enough that I'm older than the full team for first time ever. You could just do what mrs commons has just done and claim your just turning 30. Aye right hen nae bother.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If you write for The S*n you can't help but tell lies, it's a prerequisite of the job.}

22 Mar 2015 15:48:48
At 40 years of age you are far too young to give a grown man's opinion on football. Really there should be a youth section 40and younger, and an old codger's section for over 65's whose opinion should always be respected 🐭🐹🐸

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You know I respect you, Chris, no other forum would put up with your girning! Your our very own Victor Meldrew.}

22 Mar 2015 23:34:01
Ah, thanks Ed07, you do know how to look after your senior citizen.
I will respect your comment more now, that you have grown into (the adult range ) .
Remember the next 24/25 years will fly though if you are lucky enough to make it, I won't know, but maybe you will have became a Victor Meldrew by then too.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm already waaayyyy beyond Victor Meldrew, by the time I'm your age I'll be locked up for being criminally insane - or running the country!}

I know i'm a bit slow on the uptake, but I have sussed it.
RD its not Ronny Deila.
its Real Deal.
I don't think for 1 second that PL thought he had a new manager in RD that would work out as good as it has(to date).
We all know that a new manager has his own thoughts /formation training, etc etc and there has been a few blips, however as thee eternal optimist and as the song says,
The only way is up and we are getting there pretty fast.

Me and my group can't wait to get up for the game today. Think we'll stuff them again. They've got nothing about them and to think when we're able to call on Johanson, GMS, Armstrong et al then surely we're going to be too strong and can get back to showing Aberdeen that no matter how much they huff and puff we won't let them blow us down.

Jim Jim's merry men certainly know their stuff . I thought Deila's team selection today illustrated the strength in our squad . Making four change for our front men, gave us a fresh attacking approach with all the replacements just as good if not better than those rested . Playing our back six without change for change sake will always keep stability to team.

Of the current squad Chris that's the midfield i'd like to see played most regularly. Was a good game and atmosphere. The muttonmuffers result made it that bit sweeter.
