Here guys I have a question for you.
If you had to choose between signing a creative player in the mold of lubo or naka
Or a right good CB which would you choose any Why?

21 Jan 2018 19:33:20
creative player for me with good vision and passing ability that is able to make killer passes and wants to do so instead of trying to get all the glory themselves by scoring too many times I end up shouting at the telly when there is a clear-cut chance at a good through ball splitting the defence and some of our players either don't have the vision and ability or are just greedy and try running it in themselves also the best form of defence is attack as they say.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I'm not saying he's the answer to that problem but I thought Edouards's ball through to Lustig to set up Ntcham's goal was sublime.}

21 Jan 2018 19:37:08
The former for me: I'd rather see the bhoys play slick, exciting football be robust, hard to score against, and safe. I think we ought to be able to get a solid--if not right good--centre-back in without spending a fortune, but the flair players are never cheap.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 19:37:39
Kev we need a centre half big time we couldn't knit one out of the 3 or 4 we're meant to have who are all one step up from Effe.

21 Jan 2018 19:46:19
Both please.

The team should always be built from the back, Celtic should have enough finances to do this, Celtic should have ample of players available in the first team, if not then the development team players should be ready to step into the first team, they should easily win the spl, even with injuries, if not there's something wrong with the set up.

Euorpe: Celtic should qualify each year and be content with the run that they get and the games they get and enjoy the games we have in Europe. because we won't go buying 8 mil + players. Europe can be done and its been proven. we don't need quality at the back, we can't leaked goals and make basic mistakes. hail hail. They are doing a good job, winning games while other teams won't play them football. the game we love has changed, even over the last couple of years. oh to be young again. lol. hail double hail.

21 Jan 2018 19:54:22
In all honesty it is 2 areas that need to be addressed so we should be looking to fill both. A Lubo/ Naka and a Paul Elliot would be a dream. Looking forward to the week ahead.

21 Jan 2018 19:56:16
Ed that was a lovely ball through.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I actually think Edouard has more to his game than Dembele who is deadly in the box and is your old fashioned No.9 style like Lukaku or even Sutton/Hartson was whereas Edouard seems to have more ability when coming deep and running with the ball.}

21 Jan 2018 20:19:02
Ed I've got mixed feelings about Dembelle. If I was offered anything like the cash that was getting spoken of last year I'd bite your hand off.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd be delighted with anything in the £20-25 million bracket and a 10% sell on clause.}

21 Jan 2018 20:40:08
I agree Ed, Edouard also seems happy to run himself ragged to open up space. Does a lot of good work in running channels. Dembele did a bit more of that last season, dunno if he's just not got his heart in it now. At the moment I'd give Edouard a good run and he'll score plenty. Don't agree with rotating strikers as the form player will want to score every game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Between his injury problems, stop/start season and the constant transfer speculation Dembele looks like he's playing with the weight of the world on his shoulders. An old friend of my dad's I talk to at Chapel thinks that Dembele looks like he is scared to push himself in case of another injury which if you watch him the last few months is possible.
I totally agree with you about Edouard, he looks like he has a raw talent and he's just turned 20. He'll need to get a run in the team to prove he's worth a £7 million outlay though but if Rodgers thinks he's worth that just now I won't argue, he's definitely going to be a cracking player in years to come imo.}

21 Jan 2018 21:22:44
Totally agree regarding Edouard. A good run in the team and he will score for fun. Who knows £7m might turn out to be a bargain. I like his attitude aswel.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 22:39:17
I read or someone posted that Dembele is psychologically scarred to push himself as he’s worried about his hamstring going again and it can be a common thing with those type of injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It was actually George McCluskey's uncle that said it to me, CB.}

21 Jan 2018 22:45:44
Ye but JFP1888 we need a creator as well.
I my opinion we have never really replace Naka
Truth be told no one goes to football to watch a CB.
We go to see guys like jinky dalglish mcstay lubo larsson and naka. Guys that excite us. Guys that get us off our seats.
That would be my preference.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 22:48:44
I think if we get £20m for dembele, we will be doing well, I think domestically a number 10 type to really hammer teams most weeks, however for Europe, I think centre half and maybe a right back ( I do like Ralston though) , is needed more.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 22:50:38
If we sold him last summer we could expect that kind of figure ed but a think his form this year will probably put a bit of doubt in clubs heads. As someone said earlier it would be best to keep him till the summer n give him a chance to rediscover last year's form.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2018 10:51:21
In relation to what do we do first, a creative player or a CB?

If you are in a boat and there are two or three holes in it, you don't use all the wood to block up one hole, you will still sink.

We should have the money to buy enough god for all the holes and to leave one, or two then the end result is the same. We had been talking about becoming a recognised CL team, and by we I mean Lawell and Rogers. This doesn't happen without investment in a better calibre of player than we have now.

Lets fix the fecking boat!

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jan 2018 11:33:00
I agree with what has been said here about Edouard. Looks like he has more strings to his bow than Dembele, looks more comfortable around the whole of the final third. Good, selfless movement. He was actually unlucky not to be end of that move where Ntcham scored as well. Of we got 25 for Dembele I'd gladly see 7 spent on Edouard and the rest spent on a centre half and an attacking mid.

Evening all,
Young Jack Aitchison's father George passed away last night, he was only 43 years of age.
My thoughts go out to Jack and his family.
Stay strong wee man, times a great healer.

I just don't get this going away to a hot climate for warm weather training then coming back to a freezing Scottish winter, and be expected to perform, would it not be a better idea to go to Iceland and take advantage of their all weather facilities.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed033's Note - i wonder whether high altitude training would be better than warm weather training.

21 Jan 2018 17:47:16
High altitude in a cold climate, the rest of the season would be a breeze.

Edouard put in a good shift yesterday. Well taken goal and a great through ball to set up the cross for Ntcham's goal. HH.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

21 Jan 2018 14:19:44
Agree with that Bob. I think with a run of games he would be banging the goals in. A bit difficult keeping 3 strikers happy though especially with the formation we play. If Dembele is away next season i would be happy with Griffiths, Edouard and Aitchison as back up. (if not out on loan) .

Agree1 Disagree9

21 Jan 2018 12:58:08
Just reading some of the posts on here today, most negative, after a 5-0 win. I ask you.
Let's talk about the game yesterday first, I read that some posters thought we were "pedestrian" well our "pedestrian" start resulted in us passing the ball for almost 2 minutes without an opposing player touching it then ending in a well worked goal.
Also remember it was Brechin City we were playing, so players were hardly going to go helter skelter against such lowly opposition. No, the team did what it had to do, play some nice football and reach next round of cup, also remember we now have 3 games in a week coming up so we had to think of this also.
Now to the almost panic in some posters over us signing anybody. That is the operative word, we do not want to sign just "anybody" to appease the supporters, we need better players than we have at the moment in certain positions, and they take some finding. I, too in the past, have mumped and moaned at our board's lack of ambition sometimes. But I think we really need to trust Brendan and Lawwell to bring is the right players we need,
If no players are signed by 31 January, then we can all mump and moan. But this Tim says, be patient for in the next 10 days I expect new arrivals hail hail.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

{Ed007's Note - That's far too positive for here, Tim - it'll never catch on!}

21 Jan 2018 13:19:26
48 passes for the 1st goal. Poor show i expected 65 😊.

Agree2 Disagree2

21 Jan 2018 13:31:42
ha ha ha ED007, ok here is something negative.
What did you make of Rodgers comments over Dembele?
Surely he should have kept his thoughts private to within the dressing room. I got impression Moussa and his agent were happy to wait until the bigger teams came calling, and unless his agent has had a massive offer wages wise for Dembele, I think Brendan should just play him and try and get him back to the player he was last season, then sell in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - I think people are making a mountain out a molehill. Of course constant speculation can put players off - just look at Aberdeen when TRIFC were openly courting their manager in the MSM, McInnes wasn't even taking their training for a couple of days - so he was quite right in what he said.
People seem to be ignoring that Rodgers also said Dembele was fine and there was no issues or problems. I still expect MD to be a Celtic player come next month.}

21 Jan 2018 14:56:14
I posted down the page that currently he is nowhere near the player he was last season through one thing and another and it would be best for both him and Celtic if he concentrated on getting fully fit and back to his best and see what happens in the summer.
After all, what difference would another 5 months or so have on the career of so young a talent who can do a lot better than Brighton.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 16:39:37
Ed I c Musonda got some game time which is good he's ready for more can u honestly see him getting Loan out to us over a host of EPL clubs? And is there anything in this rumour about us looking at the German CH?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We've got as good a chance as anyone regarding Musonda or we wouldn't have wasted so much time on him. What German CH?}

21 Jan 2018 17:03:33
Nevar Subotic.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He's Serbian. I think people are just putting 2 + 2 together and coming up with 5. Saint-Etienne - who have already brought in Yann M'Vila and Paul-Georges Ntep this month - have already made two offers to Subotic and are expecting an answer on Monday or Tuesday.}

21 Jan 2018 17:29:03
Oh well that's that then 10 days till it's over fingers crossed it will end well.

{Ed007's Note - Keep the faith young man ;)

21 Jan 2018 17:36:09
Once a bhoy, Dembele needs games and lots of them. We need to play him every week or sell him. No point having him on the bench. Play him or punt him.

ED one more do u think there was anything in the boy at Dundee being left out squad yesterday or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yeah I do. I expect Celtic to step up their interest in the coming days but Dundee are doing their best to fend off any offers.}

21 Jan 2018 18:12:32
Could Celtic use Scott Allan be used in negotiations or would that be too much?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd hope so, Rich but I don't know if that's part of the plan.}

21 Jan 2018 18:49:40
Well we will c apparently Allan played well so that might sway in our fav if that's the way to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I was told a while back that Dundee were adamant they didn't want to lose Hendry before the summer and they would be looking at a loan like St Mirren with Morgan but it didn't twig with me until a while after that that couldn't happen with Allan already being there on loan from us. One way round that would be to make the Allan deal permanent this window but I'd be surprised if that happened - even though I think it would be a good idea to ship him out any way we can for as long as possible, permanently would be just great.}

So Craig Gordon has said he wanted the move to Chelsea last year. And now we have Demebele in a mess over Brightons enquiry and not in the right frame of mind to start against the mighty Brechin. I hope there is as many outs as there is ins this week.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

21 Jan 2018 10:15:32
Never understood the cg Chelsea thing. There's a hundred better for the role he'd have had there. Sure his self confidence would think otherwise but he'd have been #2 at most. Guess the pension pot wouldn't suffer though.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 10:22:27
Gordon's comments are hardly endearing--what is he thinking? As to Moussa, he'll be grand. If Brighton and Palace represent the extent of his ambition however, he needs his head checked. Too many of Gordon's karate kicks maybe?

Honest question, do you think Brendan is being properly back by the board in the transfer market? I sense a change in BR and I think he is starting to get fed up with Scottish football.

Agree5 Disagree2

21 Jan 2018 11:12:21
If Brendan didn’t know before how hard it would be to get decent money out this board then he does now! Not saying he’s bored with Scottish football but he’ll know he can’t take our club to the level he would like to! Hope I’m way off, but I can’t possibly see us coming out this window stronger than when it started! But we’ve still got over a week of the window to go and I hope I get proved wrong!

Agree6 Disagree2

21 Jan 2018 11:50:37
I live in hope there will be change this week, there has to be.

I gave this Board stick for the best part of a decade for not strengthening after Seville and building from a position of strength. If they make the same mistake this window trust me i will be the 1st person to pull the guns out of the holster.

It is simple back Brendan and act like a big Club or hand over the reigns to the many wealthy Tims out there who would gladly invest to take us where we should be.

I still believe we will get as many as 3 quality additions in this week, i hope i am right.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 11:51:26
The Board - in crisis - turned to him and he more than delivered.
OK he was backed initially and built an invincible treble winning side, but since then we have failed to address key positions in successive windows and it is obvious we lack CL quality.
However, the injuries we have suffered this season alone, coupled with a loss of form to certain players would have scuppered most teams, yet here we are 8 points clear top of the league, a trophy in the cabinet, into the 5th round of the SC and preparing for a tie in the knock-out stages of the Europa and we still have a week of the window to sort out a few deals - in and out the door.
I have never been a Gordon fan and hope he is replaced soon and as for Moussa - he is a far cry from the £40m player of last season and needs to concentrate on his fitness and form if he hopes to get that dream move beyond the likes of Brighton and another 5 months where he is will be better for him and Celtic long term.

Agree2 Disagree2

21 Jan 2018 12:01:39
That is something that has driven me to even more drink over the decades, only reacting in times of crisis. the board must know what needs to be done and if Brendan has real ambition to move us up a level he knows he needs players. He must have received assurances that he would be backed. I have no doubt about that and that is my pillar of hope for this window.

We all watched us in the CL and what needs to be done is as glaringly obvious as a guy dressed as a clown at a funeral.

I'll never do that again!

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 12:07:36
Rodgers knew fine well what sort of funds would be available to him prior to taking the job otherwise he wouldn't have taking it. We can't buy just for the sake of it and Rodgers wouldn't waste money on buying for the sake of it either. The CL quality of player we need to take us to the next level is very difficult to attract to this league. If a player is not better than what we already have then there is point buying is there? The board know Rodgers would not be happy if they failed to try and get any players he has requested if they became available.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 12:17:18
This is where our scouting needs to come in. We need to find foreign young players as there aren't any of the calibre we need currently at the club or we wouldn't be in the position we are in. The talk of becoming a CL team had only one prerequisite, attracting better players. Are we saying we will never get layers again in the Wanyamma or VVD mould? that's what needs to be done because you're right, players currently at that level are almost always at clubs in better leagues and on a shitload more money.

We herd a lot abut how the guy we brought in was to scout, this is where he earns his cash.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 22:43:47
Magicpole we are not the only team scouting players. Its maybe about taking a chance on them but loads of teams are scouting the same player.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2018 08:18:34
Dull, uninspiring and ponderous, and that's after a week in the sun. I thought the game was dross, no spark no real intent and again playing 10-20 yards apart back to middle meaning our passing can be woefully slow.

Does anyone else see a real lack of game knowledge when when players engage ours? We watched Anderlecht pass us to death with quick 5-10 yard passes and sharp angles to receive a pass the second you pass it on, we don't do this.

If we play like that against any domestic team, with any kind of sharpness up top, and we will be in bother. Hertz anyone? .

Believable2 Unbelievable3

21 Jan 2018 09:31:44
Just proves the fatigue comments as nonsense. Do we have a coach to help with shooting? 25 shots with 7 on target.

Same story in every game at domestic level - we need to be more effective with our shots and improvements in overall performance better come sooner rather than later.

Cue the . where just back after a break comments!?!

Zenit even with a winter break will have nothing to fear and I will be fuming if we get rolled over by them.

Creative side is lacking BR knows it just hope we can do something about it. This could be the events to come in the next 10 days. Jozo could go he no getting a game then one new CH could come in. DM will play Tuesday if not he could go depending on right money if not he stays. Creative player is the must with players out injuryed they need a spark and that's the hard part is finding quality creative player.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2018 11:31:13
Kev I agree, we need at least a couple of players in. Our finishing has continued to cause concern. We had 25 shots with only 7 on target, we did score 5 of those so that's good, but we need to get more on target, we should be destroying teams.

Hopefully we will see movement into the club of players who are fit and will go straight into the team. Couple of defenders a playmaker and depending on the situation with Moussa possibly a stringker. Eduourd isn't a £7m player yet, although I do believe he will be, the problem we will have is finding a scorer if he goes now. Griffiths has been off form, this is his chance to show he deserves the jersey, hopefully he will be back asap. Wealso need to bring in a right back as big Lustig has lost at least a yard. I would still keep him but he needs real competition and not a project.

We ave more projects than the Prince's Trust.
