I can't understand all the people saying we don't need new players in, this is the best time to buy players to bed them in for clq's giving them six to eight months to gel and find there feet rather than sign them in the summer and hope they hit the ground running the strikers we have just now as much as it hurts me to say it are just not good enough pukki, blade, stokes, fridjohnsson ( unfair as I have not seen him but bit young to expect anything ) Sammy, bangura these are not what we need for cl the league they are ok at best but when your top scorer is a midfielder then something has not worked out!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You say the answer in that they are not what we need in cl. Maybe the striker we are looking at is only available in summer, so we cannot just buy a player just because. We all know the type of striker we need but getting it isn't as easy as you think so wait and see what the team will be come cl

I see we are rumoured to be interested in filip djuricic attacking midfielder. He is out of picture at porto or benfica can't remember what one it was. Papers say 6mill would get him. Would this not be too much of a gamble if he isn't playing well just now . Any advance talks on any strikers surely we can pick up a striker if we have about 6mill to get one.

Stu, you can say the same of Lennon. Last year Stokes wasn't good enough, but this year he has said OH! Wait a minute, this year he is just what we need!

Slug mcoist in scotsman defending staying at hotel before win at forfar

"we are still rangers football club
we will act as proffesionally as we always have"

who is he trying to kid really professional bumping taxpayers and small businesses out of millions of pounds this will be slugs decision in taking them there for he knows nothing about finances of his tribute act club guy is clueless

Ayrshire bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - How brass necked are this tribute act, it's the same hotel the former club died owing £3,709.96 to! Dignity and class doesn't even come into it with this shower, that's like bumping a bank loan and then asking your bank for a credit card.}

21 Jan 2014 19:13:01
What's the hotel all about? You wouldn't be allowing them in till they settled the old co bill

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's there in black and white in the list of creditors MB, Oxford Hotels & Inns (Carnoustie) £3,709.96.}

Slug will know nothing of that though how if there was a big deal being made about them staying at a hotel did no one mention the outstanding debt the same club owed that is absolutely professional

Well that's us with less than 2weeks left of transfer window.
Samaras hasn't signed or Ledley, time to remove the contract offer from Celtic, as it looks like they are both waiting for better offers.
According to one paper it will affect whether we do sign somebody as a high earner has to leave first( if you believe that )

Personally I think we won't sign anybody, prob end up with some dodgy loan signing striker who will jump ahead of pukki and balde and score hee-haw

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we might not sign a striker or a loan deal because we have a lot at the moment plus if samaras signs. I think the club is looking but won't rush into such an important piece to our club and may wait till summer and get a true recognized striker when prices are normal. We have signed a new st earlier and want to see what he has puls pukki and balde may grow more in the season. So what I think we are doing is making sure the mid and defence is solild in this window. I think they have a plan in place and the final touches will be in summer for a good attack on cl, so I know people will be mad with no striker but let's not have a go at the club and bashing it cause I think we are going to be happy come summer time. For once in a transfer window i'm actually thinking of bringing NO striker in and letting Balde/Pukki/Fridjonsson/Atajic get a shot.

We have great wingers/attacking LB and RBs that can provide a ball, we need the strikers we have time to work with them in an actual game.

I think Balde COULD be a great player. Think of the time we allowed that big diddy Fortune to play before he started netting goals. Balde has shown he can perform on the big stage. Great performance against Liverpool, he's scored for us in the SPL and was good in Turkey.

Again allow Pukki more time in game as well.

Thoughts?

I know where you're coming from. The calibre of player we need to improve, would be one that walks into the side. Not some youngster, who needs a couple month to "adjust" because they're "raw". We have enough of that who I'm willing to give chances to in the league run-in. If it actually requires running that is. Balde, Atajic or even Fridjonsen. That kind of proven goalscorer we need is difficult to come by in January, or perhaps we're just not willing to pay the going rate. That said I'd rather get them bedded into the side now rather than later.

I seen in the paper Tom Rogic has been loaned out. I really hope he returns, this kid is showing promise but unfortunate not to getting game time, possibly due to Lenny not rotating the squad enough.

Hi Ed,

Hope the form is good, have been crazy at work so was just reading rather than contributing these last two months.

A few quick questions.

1) Do you think we will splash the cash on a proven goal scorer? or have we just heard what we wanted to hear about the board being "willing" again.

2) Who do you think will come in or who have we bid for?.

Thanks BadBhoy.

ps Whatever happened to Kale Barry

{Ed007's Note - Nice to hear from you mate. As I said to BIM below, I can't see any strikers being brought in during this window. If CFC and Norwich can agree a fee for Snodgrass then that move will happen but it might be the summer before Norwich are willing to allow him to leave.
Do you mean K Barry? He has been around, I'm sure I have seen posts from him.}

If that's true Ed mate and we don't get a striker or a play maker, I will be very disappointed. Just because we are skating the SPL (and so we should!) the complacency sets in that we are a good team again - when we all saw how poor we were in Europe and how many games domestically we were mediocre at best.
I realise January is not the best transfer window, but after making an erse of things in the last window, the manager and board needed to react.
We are 3 weeks into the window and there are strikers available, so why no signing? Plus we may lose a couple of players into the bargain and have an even smaller squad to shuffle.
Releasing the likes of Rogic and Watt makes no sense if we are 'sticking'?

If we go into these CL qualifiers as under prepared as before, when we needed a super human effort to beat 'Karagandy' we will regret it and if the stadium looks half empty now .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Maybe they are planning to buy Djuricic this window and Finnbogason in the summer ;)

Totally agree JJ, the way I look at it, spend £6m to have a chance of £20m plus, they are good odds, saying that there is risks with all purchases, say we did splash the cash and our record purchase broke his leg or something, well then at least the fans couldn't complain. If the board rodger us in this window CP is going to be a very quiet place.

(yeah Ed I meant that K Barry, KTF bud)

Agree0 Disagree0

BB, we have bought Johansson (spelling) who by all accounts will be a good player for us, an ideal replacement for Ledley if he goes and we also have Biton who looks the part. The Snodgrass rumour could happen and he would be a good addition as he is a good player and proven at international and EPL level and he is a supporter too. At this time we do not need a striker, give Balde and Pukki a chance we have cover in Stokes Frimjonson and Aajatik (Spelling). A proven Goal scorer would be great but very hard to capture one in the Jan window unless you pay well over the odds (like Fletcher £6M). Hail Hail

"who by all accounts will be a good player for us"

See that TamTimTic, as a Celtic supporter that sentence scares me, I'm not being smart. We need someone who hits the ground running, someone who will score ten or fifteen goals between now and the end of the season and come late July/early August wil be chomping at the bit for CL action.

I agree full hearted with you that we have enough strikers but we lack goal scores. Strikers play up front, goal scorers make the net bulge. Big difference. We have loads of squad players but very little quality, creativity or flair.

I know that splashing the cash guarantees nothing but my own personal feeling is that one player for £6m will do more that 3 £2m players to guarantee entry to the CL mega bucks party. KTF

Hi Ed. How you keeping mate? I hear we are link to Filip Djuricic from Benfica. Would be great if we did get him. Any word on a striker? Bigirishmac

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'm good thanks BIM, I hope you're good too. As things stand I don't think a striker will be brought in this window. We already have Stokes, Balde, Pukki, Bangura and Fridjonsson - then there is young Atajic and Tony Watt out on loan. It would be silly to bring in another striker while we have so many still here.
The Djuricic talk is just too far fetched for me, I'm not buying it at all.}

I don't see the djuricic deal happening either ed but he is the type of creative player we need

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I seen a fair bit of him last season watching Heerenveen and there is no doubting his ability. The whole story is based on one Portuguese reporter picking his name from nowhere as who CFC 'could' be watching. One of the games we had representatives supposedly watching him at he was an unused sub and the other was a League Cup match he played, he scored and was took off after 67 mins, not really much of a scouting mission that, is it?}

What is all the hype about this chap from FIFA (Champagne) and his "new" idea of orange cards.
Scottish referees have been using "orange" cards for years, especially against Celtic. Timalloy (paranoid tim)
