Brilliant news

Tremendous news! Nice to see our captain committing his future to the club and making a public display of backing the new manager. No way he'd have signed if he wasn't happy the directon the club is going. Mind the Zombies were peddling the lies we needed to sell him to pay back the "state aid" money! (rofl) Even better than that one, mind the time long ago that Rangers thought "we're going to sign Scott Brown" they even sang about it at Easter Road, then he signed for the mighty Hoops and we laughed, then they died and we laughed even more.

In the past iv been 100% against this and a know ed is aswel but seen on a fb post about the possibility of bringing hooper back and just wondering 'IF' guidetti didn't sign permanent would people welcome the idea of bringing hooper back up? as I said in the past iv been totally against it but if guidetti didn't sign and we would really need a proven striker in and considering we have bought a shocking amount of duds in the past few seasons I must admit thinking about it my mind has changed a bit and I would actually take him back knowing he knows the club he bangs in the goals and with norwich buying quite a few strikers in I don't think he would take a mega amount 2 sign so just wondering if there is anyone else who would? for talkings sake

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Gunniebhoy I can honestly see hooper ending up at Bolton, whether its a loan or a permanent deal.

I'm Against bringing him back, purely on the reasons of transfer fee involved to bring him back and I would like to see someone new who can find the back of the net a chance.

I can understand why so many fans want him back. Our recent striker signings (apart from Guidetti) have been substandard. Hooper you know what your getting and as a result is a safe bet.

I would rather see club bring in a scout dedicated to unearthing strikers. There are plenty out there that would do the damage for fraction of cost of Hooper, it's just john park seems to be unable to identify a striker that is of an acceptable standard

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper hasn't played much football since he left us, I am not sure he could return and start scoring as before .

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Hooper would want to come back, he would be admitting that he couldn't hack it in England. he will probably try his luck at another championship club.
I personally would not mind if we signed him again as he scored a lot of goals for us, but I would imagine the club would be looking for a younger player who they could make a profit on in the future.

DN a agree mate a can see him at bolton aswel probs on loan in january then permanent in the summer and agree with your opinion about why u wouldn't bring him back cause I felt the exact same. I just worry about if gudetti doesn't sign, the big man up front looks like he may be offski in january already 2 levante then that leaves severely in the shit and a just don't trust our scouts 2 find a decent striker anymore

Does anyone know why he isn't getting game time down there? Surely he can't be that unfit that he needs months of prepping?

Pedro they brought in cameron jerome and lewis grabban who has been scoring all their goals. Don't think their manager adams rates him that highly

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Isn't big Kylie Laugherty getting in the Norwich team before Hooper?}

Guinebhoy I thought that knobody could sign gudetti in January but Celtic? I thought that only celtic were able to sign him in January as part of the loan agreement? Edd any idea? Markie

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Guidetti's on loan to us for the season, he can sign a pre-contract with any team outside the EPL in January but he can't join them until the summer. If a loan deal includes an option to buy then the buying club can buy the player at any time during the season whether the window is open or not. I don't see one of them being in place as Guidetti is out of contract at the end of the season. As Guidetti is already a registered CFC player CFC can offer Man City money in January for Guidetti but Real Madrid could offer £100 million and he wouldn't be allowed to leave Glasgow.
That's just a general round up of the situation, obviously City could have a clause in the contract that if someone bid X amount they could recall the player to sell, CFC might even have already agreed a price with City for a deal in January (that's different from an option to buy) if all parties are happy with the way the move's worked out. I could go on and on speculating at clauses but speculation is all it is. From the available information Guidetti will be a CFC player until at least the end of the season
But I think Gunnie was meaning Scepovic now that I've read his post.}

Are fans happy with the football we are producing so far?

Compared to what/who? If we're talking Real Madrid then most definitely not!

The standards have slipped so badly in the last decade for one reason or another, it's terrible.

We resemble exactly what we are, an above average Scottish football side.

But I like going to the games so :-)

Painful as it is but I would have to agree. Europa progression is vital and hopefully the squad are focused on improving their game, not sure if some of them are too bothered about being shipped out on loan or sold in Jan. A lot is riding on getting JG signed up and it's a very big gamble for us to rely one player - so let's hope that they've done their research as to how to strengthen the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I started going to games in the early 60's with my old man and I remember him telling me no matter how bad things were when he was younger regarding a lack of success we always had the knack of producing (or signing) special players that would light up a game with moments of magic or sheer genius to compensate.
These players would excite and attract supporters and they have since been written into Celtic folklore.

Obviously in the 60's and 70's I was spoiled rotten with fantastic football, iconic players and seemingly endless success and the standards expected.
Clearly we will never recapture those days of heady near-invincibility, but we should always strive to attract creative and entertaining players and play the attacking football we crave.

I realise we are miles behind the giants of Europe in financial terms but the least we should expect is to be the best we possibly can, in a style and standard that makes us Celtic.

Mrs E, would you give it a rest, we understand that you don't like RD, we understand that you think no progress is being made etc, we understand that you think Lennon is a better manager etc.

Truth is that this lack of sparkle in the team is a product of the failure of quality investment in our playing staff. RD has inherited a poor squad which has been enhanced (used lightly) by a few summer signings. How many of them were his. The team has to adapt to wholesale changes in playing methods and lifestyle changes. Both players and manager need to adapt quicker. This time last year we were in the CL but out of one domestic cup. We will win the league this year, which is what NL achieved in his last season. RD might be a flop or a huge success. From what I gather the football people around the club are happy with the progress being made, whilst acknowledging that things could be better. I reserve judgement until seasons end. Face fact, we are a selling club, looking for bargain basement buys playing in a pish poor league. Unless the board think big that will not change. You are entitled to your opinion but you're posting the same Crap all the time which you are entitled to do but maybe I should just ignore it, my fault completely. Like every Celtic manager I hope they are a success, I hope to see improvement year on year. It's a results driven business and time will not judge RD or the squad kindly if those results are not delivered.

Badbhoy – did you just have a whole conversation with me in your head or something?

Where did I mention Ronny or Neil Lennon and I actually think the question is to general that's why I said, compared to what/who?

Is it about Ronny & Neil Lennon - serious question?

Agree1 Disagree1

For me scottish football is merely a choir, its europe I look forward to each season.

Team has slipped in quality over past few seasons, but the introduction of a few new faces this season is an improvement in standard for me and something to build on.

Agree0 Disagree1

Mrs E my poll soz maybe too general. I was meaning this season far. Not comparing it to anything just to see if fans are enjoying the football so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

@DN you now confusin me, in the past we have had debate after debate about NL not winnin the cups which you said he should have done and it was vital to do so. I was all for Europe over the cups now you sayin it is Europe you look forward too.Which is it you look forward too? Winnin cups or Europe? because I would take a CL night at Celtic park over any League cup win over ST. Mirren and have said so many times. Or were you just usin that to have a go at NL? And if you havin a go at NL about the cups (fair enough he deserves it) where is the praise for his Euro exploits?

Agree1 Disagree0

Winning at least one domestic cup should be the target as well as the league. I'm not one to demand a treble. Always remembwr SAF talking about his treble side and conceding how much good fortune it actually takes as well as a hell of an effort. The fact we got humped out of both last season was shocking. We haven't even won the league cup since 09 and that's pretty poor. So far, so good for RD. As for the poll, no, not particularly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E - your posts recently have been a tad on the, am not a fan of RD.

As Ed007 once said, its the natural comparison comparing NL with RD. And it seems NL gets better treatment because of his Celtic connection.

I on the other hand prefer a manager that has no connection to Celtic.

RD - has been at a small club, in a league that is in comparison to our own and built a championship winning squad. I can recall, many Celtic fans wanting Craig Levein after his progress at Dundee Utd ( and I can't recall them actually coming close to winning our league )

I believe RD will provide the football all our fans want and deserve. The board must provide funds for the players needed to provide this football. Our squad has a good nucleus - just sign 2 right good players. There is no denying the football ain't great at present, at times though you can see potentially what can happen.

Look at the England v Scotland game, the English players were not only physically quicker, they were mentally quicker as well - this is what I think RD will do to the Celtic Team and I look forward to many a success under his stewardship.

Agree0 Disagree0

@rayman I do not have a clue what you are rambling on about.

Its fairly straightforward what i'm saying, scottish football is dull I prefer european games.

Agree0 Disagree0

A different variation of the same question is asked twice a week . One thing that must be remembered is that it takes two teams, both trying to play entertaining football, to have attractive football. There are not many teams in the SPL whose first aim when playing us is to entertain . In fact most line up with 8/9 defenders from the outset and if we don't get an early break- through the game can become bogged down

Agree1 Disagree1

Chris02 has hit the nail on the head . Every week I sit with my girls and even they can tell after ten minutes what kind of game were in for if its crap, wee one reads her programme, if it's like the cup games against hearts and Patrick they kind of feel the buzz so to speak, and that's when we start well, but it's murder when other teams just sit and break up play ( that's their prerogative ) and frustrate us but always feel we should be good enough to quicken the pace and get at these lesser teams

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E your posts in general are not very helpful or positive. RD is doing a good job with little or no help from the board! We will progress well with RD, he look like he is going to take us forward. Something Neil could not do!

Agree0 Disagree1

'Not helpful of positive' - am I the Teacher on here or something?

I don't find this helpful, I find it downright strange.

Okay i'll bite, NL/RD - Neil Lennon's first season in charge, the CL qualification result was similar, we made the League Cup final, SPL went down to the last day and we won the Scottish Cup. There's your comparision.

So to sum up - Neil Lennon was in all domestic competitions in his first full season in charge.

I'm not going to count the EL due to the Legia Warsaw fiasco and I don't think anyone would have gambled good money on us qualifying if Legia Warsaw hadn't fielded that player.
