Hendry is young and Scottish, can you imagine the uproar if he progresses the way Rodgers expects him to and in a few years moves to the EPL but we didn’t bother paying £1.5m for him when he was at Dundee?

You’re blaming the club but it seems to me Rodgers would be as much to blame as any one. He’s obviously happy enough with what’s he’s got at the back.

Kev name me the 7 fit players who can play centreback. Bitton been out for months. COMPER never played 2 games in riw since day we signed him. Boyata on holuday which we knew was going to happen. Tierney should not be moved to centre back as it limits our options. He is too important for us on that left side. So by my reckoning we have Ajar, Hendry and Lustig and Simo, who unfortunately is suspended. The issue is that we had exactly the same issue last season. So whilst we can say we are unlucky we knew Comper was a non starter after a month, Simo can't play on plastic pitches, Boyata won't or would not sign a new contract so why are we back in same position?

Plus johnnymac l sure simo is suspended for the first leg after his red card. Have to say kev83 we might have 7 CB listed at the club but how many are actually good enough for European football. Maybe 3? We had this same issue last year and we haven't done anything to fix it. I just hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.

Guys what yous don't seem to get is we can't just buy CB after CB untill you get rid of some.
Johnny the gaffer has switch Teirney inside several times and played him on the left side of a back 3.
Ter 161 you say we had the same issue last year but we won a second treble AND qualified for European football after Xmas.

Guys we have the same defence as last year, that did ok domestically but was badly shone up in Europe, So we know the majority of defenders we have are not good enough for Europe hence people say we need to sign players.

We need a RB and CB first team level and then loan out or sell the likes of Gamboa, Ralston, Compper and even Simunovic.

If we can’t sell them free them up to leave, shouldn’t be signing these guys in the first place.

Kev T there players all have contracts. They players will be due wages and probably have a load of clauses for bonuses.
Pay them all off would cost a fortune.

Wouldn’t expect Jozo to be freed with teams actually wanting him but Gamboa and Compper could be potentially let go.

Jozo could be sold. Gamboa has done ok (just about) and i think we could get a bit of money for him as well. Comper signing has been a disaster. To be fair whom ever is identifying and signing players has not covered themselves in glory. Dembele, n'tcham, EDOUARD, sinclair if he gets back to where he was, is really about it as success goes. Hendry, Hayes, Kouassi, Gamboa, Comper don't do it for me.

{Ed007's Note - I don't understand the grief Hendry gets. He's a young lad that's been here for 6/7 months and is being asked to play out of position. Everybody is so quick to write players off these days and yet Hendry is a far better player than that diddy McKenna at Aberdeen everybody raves about.}

Brendan do you really think it was the board who pick which player to buy.
The scouts and management team pick the players then go to the board and say this us who u want can we get them.
Rogers pick Hendry not the board.

Kev I believe your only half right, Rogers and his recruitment team will present the board maybe 4or 5 players they feel can do a job for us the board will then pursue one of the options, unfortunately in 9 out of 10 cases it appears the cheapest option is the one acted on, in all honesty when was the last time we signed a ready made quality C. B. Sure they cost money but in the long run would prove better value, how much was laid out on ambrose, Jozo, compper and the likes and don't get me started on gangura, Mika, lassad, pukki, boeriggter, kazim Richards cifti, all money down the pan, a totally false economy in my mind and a policy that needs seriously looked at.

Brendan did a damn good job picking Hendry . We are a hell of a lot stronger having signed Hendry . A very good young centre half who Brendan is likely to turn into a brilliant one . Fair play to Jack he has helped Brendan out by filling in as right back for the benefit of the team, in a position that is clearly not his best .
Jack's attitude has been first class.

This is when we find out if some English club steps in and offers him mega wages whether he wants to sacrifice his livelihood for sentimental reasons and wait for Celtic, I just don't understand Celtics attitude, McGinn is easily worth the money Hibs are asking, they should just stump up, as for the rumours of Celtic players going to England, KT and Moussa, the bidding has to start north of £40million.

McGinn is not worth £2 million never mind 4, I very much doubt any English team with expectations of getting into the premiership think he’s got the quality to get them there and would pay the asking price

Pre contract is the way to go for a back up player.

I think your right. But you have to admit who was Armstrong really before joining Celtic? Wasn’t untell his 2nd season he proved himself worthy. He was no better than McGinn at utd I think, but with better players round him McGinn could prove to be a better player than Armstrong will ever be only time will tell Bhoys fingers crossed lol all the best to Armstrong by the way He was a decent player but as Celtic fans we still want better if I say so myself. I would love the likes of petrov back in mid as would we all but beggers can’t be choosers.

Everyone knows we need at least one cb maybe 2. Why are always dragging our heels. Hibs want a price for mcginn, pay it get him in, get them and up to speed instead of waiting on people leaving and it too late.

Been reading the various posts regarding McGinn, why should we pay the £4m when he is in the final year of his contract, no club would fork out that amount for a player under those circumstances . I don’t think he is the player everyone is raving about just my opinion. oldkilly.

We don’t. We have 5 already. That’s absolutely plenty. Ajer and Boyata will be first choice I’d imagine and I think that’s a pretty decent pairing. We’d need to get rid of Compper or Jozo before bringing anyone else in.

Armstrong comes to mind.
We got 7m for him and he only had a year on his contract.
Starting to believe other posters about making the same old mistakes and leaving it all to late.
What happens if boyata doesn't sign a new contract and Jozo decides to go to turkey. Do we go with Ajer and Hendrie for the rest of the season?
We should be building but right now we are weaker than last season. Hope im wrong.

Or we could just get him on a pre contract. Like Ed said Mcginn has told them he only wants the Celtic move so don’t worry about us losing him to England. We wouldn’t be competing with EPL teams it will be average championship teams more likely.

If Hibs are changing the goal-posts regarding the fee and the player is committed to Celtic - then we should just do the pre-contract agreement and be done with it.
It has nothing to do with being stingy as we have just spent £9M, but it will teach Hibs not to mess us about and I would loan Allen to Aberdeen or Kilmarnock into the bargain.
We currently have Broony, Ntcham, McGregor, Rogic, Christie, Eboue, Biton, Hayes, Forrest, Sinclair, Johnston and Henderson to pick from and even Ajer could do a job if we get the defense fully covered?

Folk saying just pay the cash for Mcginn get the boy in, if Celtic done that every time they bid for a player we would just get ripped off every time? I can't believe for a minute Boyata's value and reputation have sky-rocketed after a month in Russia. I know BR rates him and has persevered with him after some howlers and shaky performances, but he sees potential in him and obviously rates him better than Simunovic, Commper and Eric - who he let go; but 50 grand a week? Are Sevco at the EBT game again ha ha.

clubs scout players all through the season but make out like we only start looking once the window opens.

We have needed certain positions sorted for the last 2 years and have had 2 years to find numerous targets for each positions.

So between that and our finances there is no excuse to not act earlier in the window.

I may be wrong here but I was of the understanding that Celtic were seeded for all of the qualifying rounds this year.
Don't the seeded teams always play there home ties second?
Its just that I noticed we were at home first.

I just googled the seedings for CL qualifiers 2018/ 19 and apparently Celtic should be seeded for all four qualifiers; whereas Rosenborg were in the un-seeded part of the last draw?
I can't find any info on seeded teams playing away games first, but if that's the case I am sure Celtic will state their case.

think we played Rosenborg home tie first last season.
According to my Taxi driver, They put the two seeded/ unseeded teams drawn back in the pot, and first out plays at home first.
