Think it's fair to say now that Sammy & Ledley will walk now. IMO we should sell them both on in Jan for whatever we can get. Sick of seeing high value players leave for free or for peanuts though. I'm not surprised at Ledley trying to run his contract down to leave on a free (look at how we got him in the first place). I'm a bit surprised to see Sammy do the same though, would have expected his contract to be renewed & sell him on for a good fee next year. I worry about how to replace this quality & experience within our price range. Any suggestions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was in one of the rags the other week that both were asked to take a 10% pay cut. If that's the case then I don't blame them for walking.

Agree0 Disagree0

Said it before, I'll be glad to see the back of Samuras. a good game now and then, not good enough for me . Ledley I will be sorry to lose, but his heart is set on the EPL. Get the cheque book out PL . Hail Hail Vinciebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I read the same thing HB, just chose to regard it with the contempt that mainstream media reports deserve! If any top player in his prime was asked to take a paycut when the club are hoovering in the profits, then that is a disgrace! I would have thought you would value your main assets & make sure you get a decent return on them. Maybey we simple fans are not business savy enough to understand the complexity of this process? And VB, I totally agree, it's time sammi moved on but I'd be amazed if the board "get the chequebook out" to replace the players. This is two experienced internationals we're talking about! I'm all for buying potential but how do we replace two experienced pro's on a (Lawell) budget?

Agree0 Disagree0

Was it not sammy that said it was,nt the money he wanted but medals

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Rory. I'm Sammy's biggest fan, but he's disinterested (if that's even a word) + needs a fresh challenge now! I'll be upset at losing Ledley for free but after 4 very consistent years.

Both were crap in the CL and should be replaced with better. I'm glad they're going. Our board is one of the commercially savviest out there. If they couldn't sign them up and sell them nobody could.
Still long game to go, perhaps they're doing a hooper and milking the best deal they can get. Nobody appears after them.
They could stay and it could be sold to us as like two new signings! Heard that before.

Agree0 Disagree0

@6 You call our board "commercially savvy", even though they've allowed two starting XI players' contracts to run down? Aye, very good.

If they don't want to sign what can they do? They would have got ripped to shreds had they sold them

Agree0 Disagree0

I think players more or less know what they are going to do say two years left on the contract barring big surprises such as a really good run or an exciting investment in the club that kind of thing. I also think the club knows a lot more than it is saying. As usual the fans are played like violins. Information is restricted. Speculitive discussion is encouraged and wait for it what a surprise this player is going and no one saw it coming. Give me a break! Fans need to take the emotion from the stadium and park it when their club any club starts discussions and opens dialogue with them ( the fans). They are not open they are not honest. They are business men. Just ask yourself When did you meet a businessman who is open and frank about his business? We as fans are units of currency for them. Financial commodities that must be sweated. Love the team, the players, the stadium, the tradition and your fellow fans but please don't trust the supposed custodians. Most are egotists and have stepped on many necks in their pursuit of personal glory and ambition. Sopotcelt.

Who's peoples number 1 right back Mathews or Lustig?

Didn't rate Lustig at start but really turned things around for me so much so I would chose him. Better in air, tackle and final ball. Still think Mathews a smashing player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like both and I’m glad we have healthy competition at right back. Matthews can cope well at left back and was my Man of the Match when we beat Barcelona 2-1 at Celtic Park

Agree0 Disagree0

I like both and reckon our style of play with Mathews on right wing should be utilised more, lustig and him link up well

Mathews gets well forward but his final ball let's him down at times, ac Milan away it was shocking

Agree0 Disagree0

Lustig RB, Matthews RM everyday of the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

As a rb Lustig is the one I would pick, I think Mathews is a great player and I hope we hold on to both of them. let's not forget Darnell Fisher and if I had my way the whole Celtic team would have fresh prince hair do's. mark

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on HB. We were at our best with both lads starting down the right.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like both. Probably the only position we have real competition for a starting slot especially with Ledley on his way out.

Niall

Agree0 Disagree0

@RoryBlair I'd have those two on the right hand side of the team ahead of Forrest 11 times out of 10.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark, I think stoksey would die for a fresh prince hair-do ;) HB, I agree. The wee man from Prestwick should be moved on in the summer if he can't get his finger out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Matthews at right back and Lustig on right wing. It's a no brainer. Matthews cannot finish with a cross so waste of time there. Lustig can cross, beat defenders and score goals.
I posted my team 12 hours before CL game and had both players on the right whilst everyone was debating which one for rb. The team was 100% the same as Lenny later picked.

I have seen a few posts speculating on January targets and where we need to strengthen?
Obviously our transfer strategy failed in the summer - or in the least did not have as much of a beneficial effect on the team as desired - or we would still be in Europe and Pukki/Balde would be top scorers.

That said - would it not be better to hold off further transfer activity until the end of the season assuming we have enough about us to compete for the domestic league and cup?
Plus the January window is notoriously difficult to deal in and clubs are reluctant to release players.

Or is it important to freshen up the squad or do a mini-rebuilding early to better prepare, in advance for CL qualifiers, so we are not caught cold again?

It would be fair to assume 3 or 4 players will be leaving at the end of the season and it is unlikely we will get anywhere near what we raked in last summer; so what do fellow posters think the club should be doing? Cheers.

JJ

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our strategy commercially should be to win domestic treble for fans. Get into CL group stages by winning qualifiers. And that's it!
A stretch target would be to get that second group place but it's not worth blowing millions to secure it. We are out of our financial depth in the group stages.

Agree0 Disagree0

JJ

Lennon has said he wants guys in so we are ready for next seasons qualifiers. Would you rather have it like summer 2013 when we brought in a few squad players at the start of the summer and then had a look through the bargain bucket at the end?

A quick update on the situation. If you know anyone who is part of the 128 please let them know the details in this post. It's obviously not ideal with the game tomorrow so hopefully we're able to reach everyone so they can decide what to do.

As it stands the vast majority of those 128 are now unbanned. Celtic have sent out a recorded delivery letter which folk are receiving today. The letter states that you will be given paper tickets for the Hearts and Partick Thistle games, after which point you will be given the option of relocating to a permanent seat elsewhere in the ground or a refund on remaining games.

If you intend to take the relocation then there is no further action required, apart from organising a new seat elsewhere in the stadium with the Ticket Office.

However if you do not wish to take the relocation then it is very important how you proceed. It appears as though the club are trying to skirt their way out of giving a proper refund, only giving you the option of taking after the Hearts and Thistle games. It's quite typical of how they are operating at the moment but that we've come to expect that. We are advising all those who wish to take up a refund NOT to use the Hearts and Partick Thistle tickets the club send out. Keep them safe and unused. We will be seeking a full refund as offered to those 250 others when they were forcibly relocated after Motherwell. If you use your Hearts tickets you are in effect accepting Celtic's conditions so it is important that this information reaches all those affected.

We expect a small number to still be "suspended pending further investigation" and if this is the case for you we ask that you please get in touch with us ASAP.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Give it a rest HB, nobody cares about the GB. All we care about is Celtic but your fascination with them over our great club is puzzling. Celtic are why I go the games, not the GB. They have been given warning after warning and still continue to stain the name of our great club and punish us financially when we are already at a disadvantage. Try putting your efforts into supporting the team and perhaps with more people doing this we won;t need a 'singing section' as the whole stadium will be bouncing like it used to be

Agree0 Disagree0

So you speak for the majority Marty? Would this be the same majority who were "offended" by the display against Milan and "sick of it" in Liewell's statement? The "majority" that was only 54 complaints - 19 in person, 29 by email and only 6 phoned to complain. And those figures were confirmed by Celtic SLO JP Taylor. Maybe you don't care about innocent fans being banned for no apparent reason, but others do. So if you don't like it, don't read it. Instead of commenting that nobody cares!

Agree0 Disagree0

Has it not been established now that the GB were not to blame for the motherwell fiasco? I think they have been persecuted for the political banners that have been displayed & the rebel songs! Saying that, UEFA have made it clear that political statements have no place in the football ground. I don't agree with this but rules are rules & the club are being punished. It's about time this was sorted out because Celtic supporters should be united, not taking pot-shots at each other!

Agree0 Disagree0

HB I believe nobody does care about the GB. This is a Celtic forum and we go to the games to watch Celtic so the GB mean nothing in that regard. Let's be clear though, they are not innocent by any stretch. Perhaps Motherwell was not their members but what about the countless other fines we have recieved because of their misdemeanours? They were good initially but the have got too big for their boots now and think they are Celtic and if they can't follow the rules of the land like everyone else then they should go. 90% of members look like 16-25 neds anyway who were not even born when the things they are protesting about actually took place. Stick to talking about Celtic as this is our common love and why we are on here. Perhaps Ed can set up a seperate GB page and you can have discussions with others who case us much about this as you do and let the rest of us stick to Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

@Marty Your post just lost all credibility when you stated "90% of members look like 16-25 neds" - That shows how little you know! As I've said already, you believe you speak for the majority by saying NOBODY, I believe you should rethink you should go back to wetting your bed while eating your prawn sandwich.

Was there not a poll put up about the GB and what fans Thot

Agree0 Disagree0

Ahhh nice come back. You obviously can't have a civilsed discussion mate so you carry on as perhaps this has shown that you may be one of those 16-25 neds that I mentioned. You totally ignore my points about the fines as this is why they need to go. Without them causing harm to Celtic I would have no issue with the GB as they create a good atmosphere. If you want to support a group that have brought shame on Celtic on a number of occasions and have cost us hundeds of thousand of pounds in fines then batter in but that says a lot about you. And let me assure you mate I sing my heart out when I go to Celtic Park so no prawn sandwich here. martyc1888

He flew into Scotland in summer for Inverness court case. That's when Stockbridge showed the deed covers.
Then he flew out. Stockbridge never showed deed covers again.
Curiously at AGM they stated "this board will never sell Ibrox" that's 100% correct if Plc does not own ibrox.
Perhaps Whyte owns it and perhaps the Ltd Coy Easdale heads up owns it. Clever word play by the board.
Gullibillies were reportedly told that blue pitch holdings has £50m to invest when they get into CL. Nice little war chest story to get them stumping up for three years lol.

I see Celtic are not opening any of the top sections of Parkhead for the Scottish cup tie against Aberdeen . I would have thought we would have got a decent crowd considering tickets are £15 and Aberdeen usually bring a decent support . Bit pi**ed off I've got to change my seat as I sit in the top section north stand and I don't know where I'm going to be placed . Also think they could have held off the selling of tickets to after the new year till people get back on their feet again but what do I know, I'm only a fan . DH

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The public relations between club and support is really strained at present and they need a wee reminder not to take the fans for granted. E-mail them?

Apparently Hearts are going to show us an arrogant streak.
I'm looking forward to how an arrogant streak looks after a thrashing. Quite juxtaposed I imagine.

Mikael Lustig is to miss the next four months of 2014 after going under the knife to correct a long-standing hip problem.

The Celtic defender had a double procedure to cure the injury, ruling him out until the closing stages of the 2013/14 season.
