I've said before that CG is a great shot-stopper but lacks basic goalkeeping skills at times. Boyata made a mess of the goal, I agree. However, a wiser goalie might have realised the situation and just grabbed the ball outside his area. Free-kick and yellow card but most likely would not have been a goal.
Again, CG's distribution of the ball was poor (although he did make a great save with his feet)

Believable2 Unbelievable3

01 Nov 2017 19:45:55
It would be a straight red for handling the ball outside the box.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 19:58:03
I think most punters are hard on CG. Not perfect but a great shot stopper as you say. If ever there was a time for one of his famous karate kicks tae the opposition strikers heid it was last night at the first goal which by the way was a deliberate hand ball and shouldn't have stood. Bottom line is though if we'd had two decent centre halfs last night we wouldn't have lost and might just have won the game. โ˜˜๏ธ.

Real chance of a Europa spot and a potential wee run considering the level of play our under strength team gave an "under strength" Bayern Munich. With our full team we can hope to give a good showing and have a few more outings than we would in the last 16 (which was never gonnae happen) KT, McGregor and Forrest look like the business (alll academy) and we're looking to beat a 100 year record we already hold. Even if we don't, I'll probably spend the weekend laughing at the gusset foaming coming out of the Record Sports pages and not be particularly bothered and even less concerned about our vulnerability in the league. Things are pretty cushty for our club just now.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

01 Nov 2017 11:50:39
Love how Gordon absolved himself of any blame at the goal last night. Pointed the finger at Boyata (who I agree should have headered it away) but then claimed he did well to force the player wide to allow players back on the line. This guy is a clown got him gone in If not in January then definitely in the summer. You cannot gift the opposition goals at this level.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

01 Nov 2017 12:39:03
Was listening on radio, did the Bayern player handle the ball just before the first goal? .

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 12:52:52
Yes he handled it and this is what allowed him to take it past CG. If it didn't hit his arm he wouldn't have manged to get past and be able to take his shot. However DB should be heading that ball instead of allowing it to bounce like he did, he will learn I suppose.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 13:31:25
It definitely hit his hand but was debatable if it was deliberate as the ball bounced up and hit him.

With regards to who was at fault, I would say both.

A defender should never let the ball bounce, which Boyata did. It should have been an easy ball to deal with but I think he must have switched off momentarily as he was slow to react to the punt from the GK.

With regards Gordon, if he is going to come for that ball he has to make sure he wins it but he was a fraction too slow.

Anyway, not going to dwell on it as it was a great performance, although the result could have been better. We win and lose as a team and other than this incident I thought both players played well.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 13:36:40
What was boyata thinking. if he heads it then it's not a goal simples.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 13:48:12
Think it's about always trying to play the ball? Sometimes a player has just to clear his lines. Maybe he thought it would run through to Gordon, who knows but poor judgement. We have all been saying we need at least 1 very competent centre back AND a goal keeper. Gordon makes poor decisions. Good shot stopper but anytime he is asked to come out to the edge of the box to clear it up he makes an error or takes out the player. Need to make a change there.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 15:39:25
For me, Boyata should be sticking his nut on it. But the defence has been trained to play possession football, so I think Boyata is either assuming Lustig will have Coman covered, and able to play a simple pass, or Boyata just misjudges the bounce. Craig Gordon certainly doesn't help the situation mind, as has been said before about him, he's dangerous when he comes out of his area.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 18:18:23
I agree on all the above but would add that despite the nightmares that happen when he has to come out, his distribution is awful-near random. When he connects, it's luck. He has improved on that in the league and I realise it's a huge skill but Bayern's strong pressing notwithstanding, he isn't up to it at that level.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 18:46:53
Boyata should have cleared it but gordon making dashes out of his box is a rash decision i tyhink if he didn't then the bayern lad still has to do a bit as lustig was coming in an boyata could have got back and put the lad off. Usual us giving daft goals away. Solid performance too just hope we can keep that kind of performance up and get the results along with it.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 19:27:02
Big Boyata made a mistake by not heading the ball but the blame for the goal lies squarely with Gordon. If he never rushed out the player would have had to beat 2 defenders and himself but again he costs is a goal. He is a good shot stopper but a terrible goal keeper. His passing it terrible and he has no command of his box.

Agree2 Disagree1

02 Nov 2017 19:00:20
Big Boyota made a mistake and he knows it . So what every player makes mistakes .
Gordon hadnt got time to weigh up pros and cons of dashing out or staying on line . He was already at the edge of the box awaiting the nod back . He came and that was seen in hundreds sight to be wrong, if he had retreated towards the goals and they scored the know- alls would have torn stripes off him for not coming out

If we had converted our chances and some of our half chances there would be little post mortums on our defensive lapse.

Must he on the drink from last night DRB think your being a bit harsh on Boyata, Sinclair, Rogic, Armstrong and even Gordon. These guys have all made improvements to our squad a loss of from 1-4 games is not a reason to get rid of a player. Gordon might make blunders but there's much worse out there we could have. Boyata has saved us a few times this season already. And I'm not even going to justify the rest.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 11:15:12
Sell Rogic and possibly Sinclair? Rogic is technically one of the best players we have and Sinclair has played pretty much every single game for the last season and a half, the guys probably knackered.

Keep Jozo over other defeneders, whilst he is out best defeneder he is extremely injury prone. Very difficult to maintain a settled defence with a player who can't seem to play three games in a row? Agree you are being very very harsh on other players, players lose a bit of form from time to time, its how they bounce back and play through it that matters. Get rid of Sinclair, Rogic, really? I wonder what your thoughts were on Forrest last season bet you wanted him punted as well? See the difference time makes and a good manager, trust in BR to get the best out of his players again and make good purchases to keep us moving forward. Get behind the team instead of just being a critic which is the easiest job in the world, try it.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 13:36:53
Our squad does not need a major overhaul, just a little tweaking.

De Vries will be out of contract and should be replaced by someone to challenge Gordon. We also have Hazzard coming through

Gamboa is going to go down the pecking order when Ralston is back and for that reason can be moved on.

Sviatchenko should be sold and a top replacement brought in.

Everyone else is worthy of a place in the squad, although Hayes still has much to prove but would give him until end of the season before deciding.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 15:16:36
Rogic isn't a first pick for br and while I agree he's skill full imo he's inconsistent and one paced . i did out an add on about about Sinclair's drop in form . the reason I say Sinclair is his history of starting great at clubs then being average hopefully it's just lost form. kwaj how am i being critical of team . certain players i think should be moved on . do you think we should keep everyone we have? . also . i think I was one of the few who thought forrest played well last season and had turned his Celtic career around . and think paddy has been fortunate to get game Time ahead of him this year . i think the first good offer Armstrong likes he'll be off. boyata though improved imo still has "efe" moments in him. gordon good shot stopper but hasn't or can't improve his many weaknesses . this might be a double reply as I thought I sent another earlier . ill put myself on that transfer list for messing up if it does๐Ÿ˜.

A much improved performance last night we matched Bayern all the way, gutted by the result.
But it just reinforced my belief that Gordon is a liability on CL duty, does he never learn NOT to come rushing out.
I have never been a big Boyata fan either, too many daft mistakes in him like last night.
Bitton is never a centre half.
Armstrong just is not Celtic class, thank god young Christie will take his place next season.
Sinclair has not kicked a ball for us this year, so there is half our team missing in an important CL game, yet we STILL gave Bayern a fright.
Get 2 or 3 more decent players in and watch us go.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

01 Nov 2017 12:07:39
Not Gordon's biggest fan but his options to play the ball out last night were limited, Bayerns pressing was 2nd to none, like all top teams very difficult to find space on the park against them. Could of probably done with a big burly centre fwd last night in the Hartson mould to win Gordon's punts when he had to play long.

Timalloy, I can't agree that with only 6 players good enough for C L football we can match a team of B M standards . Despite your many very good posts you do go over the top from time to time .
For example with B M having 50% of the play and despite our deficiencies that u claim B M were limited to four attempts on goal .
If the five listed are as bad as you claim, the other six must be world class . Why not concentrate on these absolute top footballers, two only 20 yrs old with even a more illustrious future.

Florist, KT, McGeggor and our Captain were outstanding and the team were excellent. Two decent centre halfs and we wouldn't have lost and might even have won. Ref had a great game and man the Europeans don't like playing against Broonie! โ˜˜๏ธ.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Nov 2017 00:28:58
We are getting closer to being a very good team . I don't necessarily think it's the defence we need to look at, we need to be more clinical in attack with our final ball and attempt on goal.
If we are going to try to play up the field and not line up two defensive lines of four we are likely to concede a goal or two against opposition like tonight . We need to score two or three to get result . Our youngsters and James created and scored a magnificent goal but it wasn't enough.
Tonight was what B R wants and if we can get that edge in front of goal by whoever the chances fall to we will be there.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Nov 2017 09:14:03
I think both posts are accurate; because at the very top level envy defied lapse is punished and when chances do come along we need to be composed and clinical.
Armstrong had a perfect opportunity to put us in front and filed, while the central defence and goalie gifted a goal.
The big plus for me was the impact our very own talent like KT, McGregor and Forrest more than matched the elite of Europe, while captain Broony was immense all night.
The very best in Europe have match winners at both ends of the pitch with crucial goals and reliable last line of defence and if we can hold onto the bulk of this side and add the quality where it matters - the future looks great.
In the cold light of day we ended up with no points for such a superb performance and that hurts.
We have yet another tough fixture on Saturday lunchtime at Perth and I hope this result and enormous effort does not have an adverse effect - or Some will say we are in crisis with no wins in three ha ha ha.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 12:43:17
The defence is weak. We need a CB a right back and a goalie.

Thought we played brilliantly, should have scored early and never gave up. It was about belief, that if they just chilled out they would show their ability. They did.

January needs to be used to sort out what should have been done in the summer defence wise.

Get that right and we can have a wee run in the Europa. of that I have no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Nov 2017 18:53:17
Defence needs to be strengthend as wee need defenders to stop crosses coming into the box or if that happens need a keeper to command his box or ch to clear the lines. Loosing to many goals in champs league from set pieces of crossed balls.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Nov 2017 20:47:51
Yayo, under B R we play attacking football . B R knows we will concede goals in the C L . He wants us to score 3/ 4 goals so conceding two isn't a disaster .
We only conceded one from a cross last night . The cross came about through combination of tiredness and stopping for a whistle that didn't blow.
