Can't believe we're going to sit back and watch sporting take ryan Gauld. Another summer of selling our talents and reinvesting in it with hopeful foreigners. Hopefully delia can improve our academy and get good footballing people in their teaching the kids. Instead of some one who's passed his uni degree and played pro youth. Look at the Dutch league, full of exciting young talent, light years ahead of us :(

Ciaran, dry yir eyes. We do not need or want Gauld, yes he is no a bad player but he is not what we need. Would rather wait 1 year to see what our youth have and how they are going to improve under Ronny. Its not all about how much we spend on a player its all about who Ronny needs/wants and the brand of football they can bring. In Ronny and JC I trust, Exciting times ahead Bhoys. Hail Hail

Sometimes it seems that people think that it is all doom and gloom for Celtic and this could only be rectified by buying a youngster or two from Dundee United . I have yet to be convinced that any of the DU youngsters would make an impact with Celtic . I appreciate that some have more SPL experience than most Celtic players of the same age but surely that is due to the lack of ability of more senior players at D U . Celtic have been building bigger and better underage squads year on year and more and more of the young players are forcing their way on to the first team . I think Ronnie is right to concentrate on our own young players, that where the future is .

Agree0 Disagree0

Many of us are apprehensive about what direction we are going; we have very few current players, who older fans like myself could say were 'Celtic Class' and we have released quite a few young players who seemed destined for big things?
It used to be common practice to sign our opponents best players - as did Rangers when they were alive.
Look back ten years and see how much the calibre of player and even manager has dropped for Celtic.
The current state of Scottish football has allowed us to become complacent and sell our best players, while replacing them with inferior quality and continue to reign supreme - however the lack of cup wins and our recent CL demise raises questions.
I used to look forward to 'transfer season' as I could be sure we would attract a gem or two to Paradise - but nowadays I am not so confident.
I hope Ronnie quickly realises what players he can trust and rely on to do a job and gets shot of the constant injury prone liabilities and replaces them with better alternatives, PDQ.

JungleJim I understand your sentiments and agree with many, however although we had a poor Champions League campaign Last season, at least we were in it . Also its a bit harsh judging just one campaign as the one previously was both exciting and rather successful . I wouldn't quote the Govan team's buying policy as we all know it was based on fiddling and cheating . I am not sure we are not far off striking the right balance of producing our own, progressing in all competitions and having a bit of money in reserve in case of a rainy day . Hopefully Ronnie can bring us on to a new level .

Cheers Yourman; my reference to Rangers was 'back in the day' when we signed the likes of Willie Wallace and Harry Hood and they signed Colin Stein and Tommy McLean - probably long before your time and before their EBT scandal. The practice was to sign up the top Scottish talent (like Gault) from other Scottish clubs.
I am also looking for a wee bit more than just qualifying for the CL and 'being there' for a team of Celtic's stature, especially when the title in recent years is a gimme.

I would have loved us to sign him. For 3m I don't think you'll get many better players his age. Sporting have just installed a £48m release clause in his contract! You get some crazy clauses from some players but yhey obviously think they've got a steal at 3m.

Tam/your man .your taking a very blinkered view of this imo . Although young the boy looks quality and I think its a sad day we don't try and buy the best regarded youngster in our own league but are happy to bring in one from another country who has played 8 games in two years tam we shouldn't wait a year and hope rd turns our youth into playerd . That might never happen . and yourman who cares about what oldco done . i'm more concerned about our transfer and I think this is ad bad as letting mcarty slip away. i'm doing this on my phone and can't make out the wee box you text in and i'm hitting letters I don't want to . honest I can spell better

Deep river bhoy . There is nothing wrong with your typing . Its difficult for Celtic . I am sure Parke is recommending the best young talent that he thinks is available . In hindsight MacCarthy and Fletcher were players who were certainly missed . We have a massive squad of young players under 21 who somebody who should know obviously thought they had the ability to do a job for us . Hopefully some will. I cannot understand this price tag on Gauld, surely if goes away and spends most of his time on wine and loose money, he could be back here for less than a million in a couple of years ( I don't think and I hope that won't happen ) . The worry of Oldco in my mind, is simply the board stretches their finances to satisfy demanding fans

Jungle Jim, I am afraid it's not long before my time the signing of H Hood and W Wallace, even then Oldco always seemed to be able to outspend us . The fiddle of that time isn't yet clear .

So, that's all four of Celtic's players (and the SPFL's only representatives) out of the World Cup after France defeated Nigeria last night. Just seen the stats, all (excluding the Great Wall, for obvious reasons) can be proud of their performance:

Passing accuracy: 69%
Defensive contributions: 8 (4 clearances, 1 block, 3 interceptions)

Passing accuracy: 78%
Shots: 6 (2 on target, 4 off)
Goals: 1
Attacking contributions: 8 (1 assist, 7 key passes)
Other: Won 15 aerial duels, in attack + defence
Special mention: Invited 11 yr old Celtic fan Jay to attend Greece's Round of 16 match v Costa Rica

Player: Fraser Forster

Player: Efe Ambrose
Club: Celtic
Country: Nigeria
Position: CB at Celtic, RB with Nigeria

I am not surprised Ambrose was our best performer even though he was played out of position at right back.
Efe is a great addition to any team as he just gets on with the job of doing his best . At Celtic all last season it was Efe who took up the biggest or the fastest striker and left Virgil with the routine tasks of intercepting and clearing . Virgil is first class but Ambrose carries a lot of the load .

Agree0 Disagree0

Well based on what I've seen in the 4 Nigeria games, I'm beginning to think we're playing him out of position. He looked far more accomplished at RB than he does at CB with us! Unfortunately for him though, he'd still be behind Mikey Lustig or Adam Matthews - as well as having Darnell Fisher as competition!

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless we are going to switch our style of play to not have a fullback getting up towards the by- line and putting in crosses then, Ambrose wouldn't be an option . Ambrose is a versatile player but he just isn't an attacking full back like Matthews Lustig and Fisher .
He and Virgil, are good together and hopefully will be there for a season or two.
