Watched an interview earlier with our new loan signing, why do we always insist on saying how big a club we are, surely to god that just sounds like a wee club trying to be a big club, really annoys me.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 23:00:03
Agree. It's cringe worthy putting words into their mouth.

Should hire wee Si Ferry to do our interviews.

Much more natural to listen to.

What really annoys me is when a new club claims to be an old club😂😂.

Malky Bhoy hahaha spot on haha.

02 Feb 2019 10:05:20
Cringeworthy is claiming to be "going for 55" and claiming "to be the most successful club in the world" after winning the 1st, 2nd, 3rd division and the chips and curry cup in 6 years and then claiming "to be back" 😂😂😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Feb 2019 10:07:57
Not forgetting claiming to have rejected bogus 8, 9, 10, 11 and £12m bids for a coo you couldn't punt to a slaughter hoose all in a sad attempt at pretending to be a big club😂😂😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Feb 2019 14:33:18
I agree, if we’re telling him to say it, it’s embarrassing. However, it might be genuine because Celtic are seen as a huge club in Germany. I was in Teplice for a UEFA Cup game years ago and I got a ticket for a section of the ground that was almost all Germans. There must’ve been about 1500 in that section and they weren’t all St Pauli fans, there were fans from loads of different clubs including hundreds of Borrussia Dortmund fans.

Are Chris Burke and Steven naismaith Phil Mitchell's mutant twin sons?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 19:44:10
Tom Rogic really needs to take some responsibility for his own poor fitness record and prioritise his efforts on being available for Celtic. I realise that it’s a privilege to represent your home nation but when it becomes so detrimental to the club that pays your wages, you might want to think about where your priorities lie.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 22:10:54
Normally, I would disagree with a post like that but given the nonsense when he was called up to the Australia squad early to acclimatise and missed the Glasgow Derby, I would agree that he needs to offer more commitment to Celtic.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 22:23:52
Exactly COYBIG; He will have missed more than half-a-season when you add up all the absences and injuries and Australia were too quick off the mark with their call-up and ultimatum compared to other teams.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Feb 2019 00:41:50
Rogic seems to be one of those players who is always going to be injury prone, that's just the way he is. If he shows loyalty to Celtic and refuses to join the Aussie squad then he's stuffed on the international scene and we shouldn't try to discourage him from representing his country. Yes we would prefer him to remain loyal to Celtic and ignore the international call ups but that's not how it works. He is fragile, he has shown that for quite a few years, but when he performs he does it exceptionally well. His fanbase within Celtic supporters is always going to be divided so let's just be grateful for the good performances that he does produce. HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2019 09:18:08
Don’t get me wrong Bob, I’m a huge Rogic fan and I’m willing to accept he probably won’t give you 90 minutes every week and he will have periods of absence through injury. I also understand it’s a huge honour to play for your country and I wouldn’t want to deprive someone of that. However, the international team managers have to show a bit of respect to the clubs that employ the players and if the Australia manager is not willing to do that, I’d expect Rogic to fight our corner, even if in the extreme, it means saying he’s not available for international duty.

Interesting to see WBA signed two wingers on deadline day yesterday. Jacob Murphy and Jefferson Montero. If they both make an impact and West Brom make any of the deals permanent ones it may give us scope to extend Burke's loan. Burke has already stated after only two games that he would like to stay. It seems he has not had a great experience at WBA claiming he was "starved of football" there. I don't think we have the finances to make it a permanent deal but another loan may suit. I know they've stated he'll be back in the summer but as the saying goes footballs a funny old game.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 20:12:58
We can't afford to buy him so an extended loan deal would be great I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 15:30:09
Brendan confirms there's no buy option with the German what's that all about poor show.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - It's a bummer but it only means that there's no deal in place, if Toljan does well and settles there's no reason we can't try and buy him in the summer. Maybe the player didn't want to commit to anything, maybe as the clock was ticking the clubs decided to stop negotiating any sort of permanent deal and just get the loan finalised.}

01 Feb 2019 15:52:14
Dortmund have Piscezk and Hakimi ( who is on loan from Real Madrid) in the RB positions at the moment. If Madrid decide to sell Hakimi to Dortmund in the summer that may well provide us with the chance to make Toljan a permanent signing if he enjoys his time with us👍.

Think the boy from dort und needs to prove himself here first.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 17:07:22
It's marvelous we got him in the first place - even for a short term and he is one of four loans that will make a big difference to our campaign and challenge for trophies (in the here and now) .
It's still possible he (and the others) could extend their stay if all goes well and with several players due to leave in the summer, that should free-up more cash to fund further activity and add even more quality to the squad - making the progress BR has advocated.
ED007 may have a good point regarding the circumstances and it was also clear we showed a lot of ambition, scouting and determination to make this one of the best winter windows I've seen at Celtic.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 17:50:54
It is a bummer ed the summer window will be interesting now.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I can't wait.}

01 Feb 2019 18:38:41
Let's wait until we see how Tolgan works out. In a couple of months we might be delighted we have him on a loan and not permanently . Hopefully B R will like what he sees and can begin talks over signing him permanently.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 18:54:19
Maybe Toljan will be absolutely horrendous and we will be grateful we didn’t buy him permanently and send him back to Dortmund 😛. Before I get a backlash I’m kidding Bhoys.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 19:17:11
I know it was tongue in cheek but you’re right Ice Man. Remember Tony Cascarino? I can see this becoming the normal way to do business in future as it reduces the risk for both club and player. It’s funny to think we were laughing at the Sevvies for this policy previously but it actually makes good sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 20:16:20
I wonder what Lustig is thinking too. He's been magnificent for us and although I agree we need to replace him, I'll be sad not to see him on the pitch as often.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Would you take Lustig for another year doing what Izaguirre's done, cover for our new RB whether that's Toljan or someone else? We could send Ralston out on a season's loan to get a run of games under his belt and trigger the year's option on Lustig's deal.}

01 Feb 2019 21:04:19
Lustig doing a lot better than people give him credit for but if rather see Ralston battle for the 1st team place next season.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Do you not think Ralston would be better out playing every week and letting us see how he progresses AND how long he can stay fit for?}

02 Feb 2019 00:26:11
If Ralston was the first choice just now, and Lustig was were Ralston is just now, and if Ralston was performing like Lustig is just now, I think Lustig would be given a chance in Ralstons place,
There should be no place for sentimentality, players should be picked on their level of performance.

02 Feb 2019 09:05:38
I think Ralston was getting his chance but got injured.

01 Feb 2019 14:09:29
Sadly ED007, you were proved right about Rogic returning from Asia Cup, out for 6 weeks.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - It was a certainty but it's definitely one of those times I'm not happy to be right.}

01 Feb 2019 14:41:57
His injury record is awful every couple of months he's out and there always bloody long term.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 15:00:03
Every season we lose him for several weeks at a time, so it's kinda expected unfortunately; but luckily we have plenty of cover - maybe not the same style and type of player - but at least we have options.
Just seen a clip of The Celtic Squad training at Lennoxtown today and there's Broony out in the shorts and T shirt, while others have got the 'survival suits' on with hats, gloves and scarves ha ha.
Maybe he should give Rogic a blood transfusion to toughen him up?

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 16:16:19
One of the reasons I was against him getting a new contract. Especially one that long.

01 Feb 2019 14:07:52
Looks like Rogic will be out until about April. It's a shame because on his day he's an absolute joy to watch but I think Christie is doing brilliantly in there atm and luckily Burke and Weah are also able to play that position. One from left field is perhaps Eddy tucked in behind Bayo if he gets a run of games.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 14:02:48
There has to be a review of the sports scientists or fitness people at the club, that's rogic out for 6 weeks anaw noo, should never have went away when he was getting injections in the first place. These injury's are not normal, whether it's the training pitches or the actual training no one knows but there is clearly something wrong. Arsenal had the same problem for a long time under venger.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 15:32:30
Wulie10, the fact that you mention Wenger as being the manager at Arsenal when they had injuries is interesting. Are you saying it's all Brendan Rodgers' fault? HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 16:14:05
Or maybe it's to do with the fact our players are playing an extreme amount of games couple with the abuse they are taking with no protection from refs.
If these injuries were happening in training all the time you could blame that but they are not.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 18:54:15
Good point Kev, last season Kieran Tierney played more top flight competitive games than any other player in the world. Add plastic pitches to that and you’ve maybe got your answer.

01 Feb 2019 13:29:09
OK as promised my positive post on our transfer dealings.

The boy from Dortmund Tolson seems to be a Brendan type player in that he has the talent, energy and desire but has lost his way a bit in Germany, I read that Dortmund may be prepared to sell in the summer but his wages for us may be a problem, the way round that in my eyes anyway, is to offer him a big signing on fee £1m and then good performance related bonuses depending on how well he and the team do allied to a good basic salary £25K+
The two young American defenders are good in that we seem to be planning for the future at last with them a rb and lb.
The 3 loan signings Weah, Burke and Tolson are here to help us win the league and augment our squad until the summer, while loans are not ideal they serve a purpose for now.
We already know in the summer a few players are out of contract which will free up wages, so even if we only bring in 2 decent defenders in, with our 4 January signings we should be a lot stronger. I would hope the defenders coming in will be permanent signings.
I also anticipate Celtic selling a player or two Nitcham, Bitton? to pay for 2 top class defenders.
We will see in the summer.
But for now roll on the TREBLE TREBLE.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 13:54:44
Biton going nowhere manager rates him.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 13:59:16
Say what you want Bitton's ability as a player but he must be a manager's dream in terms of his attitude. He often gets played in different positions or has to make do with being a sub but he never moans or causes trouble, he gets on with it and does his best and says publicly that he's happy to do so in order to help the team.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Feb 2019 18:42:48
Bitton is a manager's dream, he will do whatever the manager asks him, playing in whatever position or on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 22:56:17
Biton is good in midfield. I honestly think he could take browns role.

Not as good a tackler but has other attributes.

Didn't suit when we played more of a 433. Never use him in that tactic but this current one he suits.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 12:45:22
So Ed who do you think we will sign in the summer? 🙂 I think it was quite a positive transfer window for us I am personally very happy with the players we brought in. The type of level we can expect to attract but will be interesting to see how Brendan juggles it about as a lot of the old guard are stepping up their game as they know there is genuine competition now? Plus we have several players due back who have been missing recently. Let’s just hope we can go on a run and just put the also rans in their place 🙂🍀 coybig.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'm disappointed that there were so many loan deals brought in but I'm even more convinced that a Treble Treble will happen. What happens with the team after that though is a cause for concern.}

01 Feb 2019 12:59:27
You’ll probs find Ntcham will be sacrificed in summer to get the personal in wee need.

{Ed007's Note - 😁

01 Feb 2019 11:55:40
Ed, can you (or anyone else? ) provide a list of 1st team players who are out of contract in the summer?

Reason being everyone seems to reckon 'a clear out' in the summer, but we say this all the time. I expect most players on a wage a Celtic would probably prefer to sit tight than move on. So who will defiant be out of contract and definitely free up a wage.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - De Vries, Boyata, Izaguirre, Lustig, Gamboa, and Scott Allan are all out of contract this summer.

Ed, out of Weah, Burke, Bayo and Toljan who do you think will miss out on a place in the EL squad?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Bayo.}

01 Feb 2019 11:42:48
It's been a good window imo but it now makes the summer one massive and the work starts now . the back 4 will be decimated with the departures of boyata benk and possibly lustig and Izzy so let's hope the new rb settles and we can get him signed up . And hopefully get them in early so there ready for the qualifiers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2019 16:32:31
The work started a long time ago. Congerton and Lawell will have a pipeline set up that documents what players might be targets at any point in the next few years and they will be constantly monitored by keeping tabs on how well they’re doing, how much they’re allegedly earning, how much they’re perceived to be worth, how long their contracts are etc. and there will be ongoing talks with the agents of the ones that are seen as the most attractive/ highest priority. Out of hundreds of players on that list, there will only be a handful that will tick all the boxes at any given time and that situation will be constantly changing. We just have to hope that all the moons align together at the next transfer window. That’s why a lot of the time it’s probably easier to just develop your own players.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2019 01:08:43

01 Feb 2019 11:41:21
I thought I'd give a wee rating of our new transfers for people to agree, disagree, comment on or tear apart.

BAYO - First and foremost he can hopefully take some of the pressure of young Edouard, and perhaps even play with him in the way we seen with Dembele. For a young lad he demonstrated a great goal record at any level in the season gone in Slovakia. Hopefully it wasn't just a purple patch and he can step up for us. Only seen his goals reel on youtube and whilst a lot of them look like they relied on service, never underestimate a penalty box goalscorer and I'm excited to see him properly and what else he has in his locker.

WEAH - A highly rated youngster who will, from what I've seen so far add some much needed freshness and quality to the attack. I'm assuming we have next to no chance of signing him permanently so that takes a bit of the shine off but nonetheless should be an enjoyable player to watch.

BURKE - Pretty much the same as above really but I'd say with a slightly better, next to next to no chance, of a permanent deal.

TOLJAN - Well after all the talk of a RB we finally got one over the line at the last. Thank funk for that. Imagine the scenes if we hadn't. He's got pedigree. Represented Germany at various youth levels an looked a right prospect at Hoffenheim. Hence the move to Dortmund. Didn't quite work out for him there but what does it go? One swallow doth not a summer make? Basically, one poor season doesn't make him a poor player. Get him back on track and we could have a player on our hands. Conflicting reports about whether we have a permanent deal already negotiated but there's time to worry about that.

SHVED - not going to bother going into how a manager and recruitment team work. But this is actually the signing I'm most excited about. Let's wait until the summer thpugh and see if we get a better view of him in preseason.

OVERALL - pretty happy. Always think we could have done a bit more but sadly I think a lot of poor signings from previous windows have bloated our squad and wage bill. Not to mention january is always more difficult to get players in, never mind come to Scotland. Castagne would have been a quality signing by the way. Finally, well done Ed and Rich T for keeping the pages ticking over. Now let's get back to the football, crack on with a Treble Treble and dare to dream in Europe. COYBIG.

I see the alleged 'spy in the camp' Mulumbu has been loaned to Killie; but was surprised we didn't loan other fringe players to the likes of Hibs and Aberdeen to give them game time and put them in the shop window for the summer. Obviously loan players don't play against a parent club so it wouldn't backfire on us.

01 Feb 2019 08:06:51
I think what we need to remember is that it's a January transfer window. Teams don't want to let players go in this window unless it's for an absurd amount of money. So the loans we've done have to do till the summer.

I do however think that we'll need to get players in early doors for the qualifiers in the summer if Celtic aren't looking to try to extend weahs and Burke's loans/ possible permanent. Also 2 Cbs are going to have to come in as well as a Rb if the German lads loan deal isn't to be made permanent.

All in all it's the most productive January window I can think of in recent years with 7 signings.

Gutman signed, confirmed by the club. I take it the story of him going AWOL was more BS fabricated by the Jabbarags?
Good window this year, a brace of young prospects to be developed for the next few seasons and our loans to kick us on to the league this season. We are building the club to get the 10 and more. Meanwhile, over the city our fiercest rivals have pushed themselves to the brink of doom by bringing in two old duds who are draining the swamp with their salaries alone
6 points clear, it's ours to lose.
It really is good to be a Tim just now!

My only disagreement with Big Rab's post is "good to bea Tim just now" as for me it is ALWAYS good to be a Tim. Even during the rangers EBT years it was good to be a Tim and thank God we had people running our great club who didn't take us down that same destructive road.
I agree with everything you said BigRab but I would say that it ts always great to be a Tim and thank God we have a CEO who is an astute business man and is not building a team on the never never.
