Man city are planning on signing Patrick Roberts of Fulham and sending him back out on loan he would be a good loan signing to bolster the right side of our MF surely we would be a good option when city look at the progression of denayer! Thoughts?

Not sure how much it benefits Celtic. No chance of signing him permanently so i'm instantly more against the idea. Not sure he'll really improve us. Got a future no doubt but flatters to deceive. He set up two in the Championship and is suddenly worth £10m. Crazy. Would he really improve us that much? And Man City have decided they'd rather Denayer go to a Championship side. So would they not rather just keep Roberts at Fulham? Not for me mate.

I posted this a while back and although not a rumour I wanted to ask if you would take a punt on jelavic? Surely fits the bill as the kind of striker we are looking for!

{Ed007's Note - Mediocre?}

19 Jun 2015 18:38:46
Yeah agree Ed but still have a feeling if. The crowd get him fired up he could do a job?

How about a poll for no 9
Vossen
Hooper
Fletcher
Griffiths
Djuric
Finnboggossan

I am sure I have missed a few!

Me I would probably go Finboggossan then Hooper although I have to give credit to griffiths for improving and being better than I thought.

Jelavic would never go to Celtic couldn't even afford his wagers

Wouldn't take him if he played for free he is mediocre and has a bad attitude , not a team player and makes even gudetti look humble .

Good strikers are hard to come by if you have a budget unless you get really lucky, not many stickers have went fro m rangers or Celtic over the years and continued to make a name for themselves Hooper being an example recently

Apart from the fact we could not afford him or his wages, the guy has a bad attitude, bad work ethic and to top it off he is always injured. For these reasons I would not like us to sign him.

Really getting sick of these paper stories linking us with cash+fletcher for van dijk. Utter nonsense

19 Jun 2015 16:16:40
Fletcher won't be coming to us! And neither will anya! JC said as much today when he was asked about them! We can't afford the transfer fees or wages! Or should I say we can afford them but just won't pay it! Either way there's no chance of us getting them! Same old crap in the papers every transfer window!

19 Jun 2015 17:10:46
I think we would only sign anya if If izzy was sold for a good fee! But izzy is back to his best so we need a back up unless the young Bhoy we've got can do the job I'm all for filling positions with good academy players and signing quality!

Dn surely you must know this is what happens every window. We will be linked with irish guys like Keane dunne and given all on over 60k pw week so would never happen. Now it's fletcher he's on 60 pw so why would he come up to this gold fish bowl. Recent names have been snodgrass shortly before hull signed him for 6m. I remember being linked with pavlyuchenko for 6m couple of weeks later he signed for Spurs for 12m. Papers will print anything to sell a paper it's the way it's always going to be mate. I think it's been a bit diluted in recent years as they've had enough to print even in summer with our friends from govan passing away and trying to reinvent themself with one charlatan after another. But you have to remember it does Peter lawell no harm to let these story's role especially around season ticket sales time. I wouldn't let it get to you mate you can expect to see all the usual suspects linked with us Maloney hooper Maclean mcmanaman blah blah blah until we get a few guys we've not really heard of. But as we know not always a bad thing.

It's all about the youth nowadays especially up here and the star Scottish football is on as a whole a decent loan player is as good as it gets unless you get really lucky let's be honest you don't get much for a1 to 3 million player nowadays mostly average players on high wages like I say unless You get really lucky Celtic and rangers have had their fair share of dross on high wages over the years but some decent players also.

If it does come to pass that VVD moves on and proves to be the only other "starting 11" player to seek pastures new (including Denayer), I think that CFC are in a pretty healthy condition EVEN if they do very little prior to the season's commencement.

If you look at CFC and the 20 or so 1st team pool, we are all agreed that we do not need to boost the squad's headcount simply to increase the numbers. Every team should be on the look out for quality. But for CFC, any player that thinks or knows he is quality is a non-starter because they will have their head turned in every possible direction by potential suitors representing 10 superior leagues.

We were all hoping, broadly speaking, for an enhancement of the starting eleven NOT the expansion of the squad with more Boeritgers, Berget's,. Tonev's and such like. Hope and reality are obviously distant relatives.

Assuming the new season brings with it an injury free, buoyed, and motivated 1st team squad, we will still have something to look forward to. Izzy had a better season than the previous season to that. Mathews is looking to get injury-free. Maybe this will be his year? At CB, we have options with Mulgrew, Lustig, Boyata and Ambrose, noting that PERHAPS 1 more addition in that area of the park would be diligent.

We are not in chronic need of an overhaul however. There surely has to be something to be gained by having a SETTLED squad, where there is trust and a degree of brotherhood. The siege mentality that can manifest when it is "us against the world" can also be a great source of motivation. 2 or 3 new arrivals can be good for competition, but it can also unnerve and be the cause of great despair. Managers persevering with THEIR player that has no real business being on the park, but they persevere nonetheless. RD will (hopefully) know where we are at.

This elusive CF / Striker that we think we ought to go and get; you know the one that can hold it up, move well, pass it off, head it on, run fast, score goals, come deep, lead the line, dribble, get his fair share of scrappy goals, and get the better of two centre halves more often than not and pass it in to the net from 20 yards (with both feet) may not be out there!

We lost a Centre Half and immediately brought one in who, if anything, is a little more experienced (again) with something to prove. The CFC model. At 24 years old, still scope to polish the edges.

We have lost a back-up goalkeeper who will likely be replaced but not by someone who will steal the back pages.

CFC finished the season relatively strongly. RD's second campaign should be easier than the first. Whether we have enough to qualify for the CL is the big unknown, but I am not convinced that the quality of player that we can realistically hope to attract in the real world would have made such a material impact in any case. Who was the last CFC summer signing that made the difference in the CL qualifiers?

Can we not be satisfied with Biton's progress and LG's goals (and the variety therein)? Can we not hope for better to come from Forrest and the effects of a full preseason behind GMS and Armstrong. Will Johanssen move up another gear as seems likely? Will it be a breakthrough season for Scepovic?

There is talent there and the management team is settled. Let's leave it to RD, JC and JK to work their magic over the pre-season to see if they can get this team to up the ante a little more.

They will be signing all and sundry across the City. It is inevitable. We remain in a different league, in all aspects. They need to re-build. We need to maintain.

The NEED to strengthen is, in my view, being blown somewhat out of proportion. We have a good squad, and a decent crop of youth chasing hard on their heels.

Let's view starting eleven signings as a BONUS. The pursuit of emerging, young talent is the best course. So long as we are progressing. so long as we are progressing.

But let's not go and spend the £3m or £4m on a big head who will want out no sooner than the day after his arrival. The damage would be difficult to compute.

Just my view.

A sensible view Paradise, in which I fully concur. I am so looking forward to seeing GMS and Armstrong with a full RD pre-season behind them. I think we will all be pleasently suprised at just how good these 2 Jauary additions will be. Hail Hail

Forrest is an imposter. The most over rated player in the known galaxy. He's mid twenties now and still canny come up with a consistent final baw. He has never attracted any interest and I know why. He flatters to deceive. Him and Ambrose out ASAP for me.

If Jelle Vossen has the ability to be a success in the lone striker role, then sign him quickly. We need a player that has mastered this role.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

19 Jun 2015 15:26:27
And why should CFC expect to attract someone who has mastered that role. Any player who has mastered any role, emphasis on MASTERED, will not be coming to Celtic.

We want players who haven't mastered anything but who have the willpower to (and the potential to); surely ….

19 Jun 2015 16:04:52
To then sell them on paradise? It's too much future this future that for my liking. Yes, look after the future, but we need to strike a balance somewhere. We've got CL qualifiers starting in a matter of weeks not years.

19 Jun 2015 18:51:23
Jim.

My point is that we won't be signing anyone who has mastered anything because masters of anything will be looking beyond Celtic park

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 19:06:30
Wee bit pedantic with the mastery thing there though. Of course we won't get or keep, the complete package. There are many aspects to a game you can master, surely we can get players in who have mastered something. Think the point was just somebody who can play in a particular set-up. Our set-up.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 19:34:04
I agree Jim, it seems quite a negative attitude to say that Celtic could not attract players that are actually better than what we already have.
If you look at our Champions league performances over the last 3 years, they have been getting worse year on year, this is because we have basically sold our best players, and replaced them with players who haven't been as good as the players that we sold.
If we don't qualify again this year, what chance have we of holding on to the likes of Johanssen, Biton etc. they will probably not want to stick around too long.
I accept it can be a risk spending a couple of million pounds more than you really want to, but it can be an even bigger risk in not spending enough, as the last couple of years has proved.

We are in the bargain bin and loan market. Anyone who can kick a baw in a straight line and us currently getting a game anywhere are out if our reach.

We rely in getting duds and hoping we make them mediocre. That and bits who couldn't get a game at bugger clubs. The reality us we stand to lies up to £30 million if we don't get players in. £10m is not too much to ask but it won't happen. The tin is supreme still at CP.

Liam deals is our only realistic option. Seems like the scouting system gas died on its arse too.

Well done Thomas Buffel the ex-Ranger has advised Jelle Vossen to jump at the chance to sign for Celtic if he gets the chance.

What are anyones thoughts on Chris Wood from Leicester a big centre forward who can hold the ball up and has an eye for goal. Only 23 and about 5th choice at Leicester just now?
