In good mood for imps game with bitton and johanson both out its a guaranteed start for our cm that play a faster game like Armstrong . Feeling 4-0 minimum dembele finally getting a goal.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2016 21:38:48
That's music to my ears Bitton been out my preferred team for tomorrow would be
Gordon
Lustig ajer Erik Tierney
Mcgregor rogic Christie
Roberts dembele Griffiths.

Agree0 Disagree2

19 Jul 2016 21:59:01
Should be more speed in the team without biton.

I'd go

Gordon
Janko lustig sviachenko tierney
Armstrong brown mcgregor
Griffiths dembele Christie

Do t think Roberts has played enough for a start. Also maybe swap mcgregor with rogic or Henderson. Just think mcgregors looked good.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 22:07:15
Sj and bitton pasted fit for the game.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 22:20:57
Also I have a feeling griff and Roberts are fighting for the same spot.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 22:28:03
Griffiths needs to play central dembele should only be up top when playing 2 strikers! Rodgers surely learnt his lesson that our 40 goal striker is in need of being central!

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 23:29:37
If br can get griffiths playing the right way on the right he could be really good there. Always running and closing down, can cut inside and has a wicked left foot.

Agree1 Disagree2

20 Jul 2016 10:07:18
Think it would be a wrong move to move LG out from striker after a 40 goal season. Strikers tend to lose their goalscoring form when changed position.
And isn't Dembele a left wing/ striker? Dembele left, Roberts on the right abd LG in the middle. The game tonight, easy 4-0 win!

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 18:17:51
I don't think the intention is to move Griffiths to the wing or anywhere else on a permanent basis, it's early in the experimental period of linking Griffiths with Dembele and I think there will be a lot of flexibility in movement if we play a front 3. Or else it will be a front 2 with Dembele &? Griffith's interchanging.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 18:56:26
Jose mourinho leaves Wilson in England a top quality striker I'd break the bank for him.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

19 Jul 2016 22:01:56
How can you call him top quality mate? He's hardly played and hardly set the place alight at Brighton. If we're going for a striker we need quality.

Agree3 Disagree1

20 Jul 2016 09:39:40
Got to agree with cmc. We keep hearing these bhoys fae big teams are world beaters but when it comes down to the crunch it's not true.
We need someone who has played and scored goals at senior level at the very least.
We have enough young potentially good players in our first team squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 18:19:35
Wilson would be something similar as a striker as Blackett was a defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 18:25:09
ED, do you see any signings being made before Thursday's deadline (presuming we progress on Wednesday) and if so, who?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I have no idea.}

19 Jul 2016 18:50:33
It's a frustrating time for all of us . I think we are nearly there if our players played to the standards they have reached on infrequent occasions, on a very regular occasions . That's what I expect a manager with the profile of B R to achieve . Of course we need to sign a centre half and probably one or two more . We need the like of Scot Brown to reach the form he has shown for year after year .

Agree2 Disagree6

19 Jul 2016 21:41:55
I've always believed that Ronny had a good set of players but just couldn't utilise right regularly, I hope Rodgers gets the best out of every player there.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 18:22:52
Well it looking more and more likely that the powers that be at Celtic park are prepared to gamble on the current squad that have failed miserably the two last years to get it right at third attempt I realise one more player can be added after Thursday deadline presuming we do progress but to my mind it's exactly the same failed strategy in place for the last three years, can't help but wander were another failed gamble would leave BR, because Missing out on the groups again would surely lead to a total clear out of the present squad and more so the people who assembled it.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2016 18:41:58
It may or may not be anyone at Celtic who are to blame for only one top signing so far in this window . Nobody at Celtic can force worthwhile targeted players to come to Celtic until they are ready to sign . Players will sign for us when their agents tell them it's the right move at the right time . That may or may not happen and it could be that we may have to sign a poorer standard of player if we want to get a player in .

At the end of the day we have Dembele and Ajer already added to squad and maybe this season we could just get there in Europe.

Agree1 Disagree7

19 Jul 2016 20:25:57
Old Bhoy, Plenty of other clubs seem to be able to do business at this time of year, what are they doing that our club seem unable to do? .
As a club we know exactly when our season starts, we have to play European qualifiers at this time of the year, in my opinion there is no excuse for us not to be a lot more prepared than we have been these last few seasons, how many more failures will we have to endure before the people running our club get it into their thick skulls that their methods are taking us backwards.
We are the wealthiest club in Scotland, yet we act as if we're one of the poorest, this continual penny pinching has meant that instead of using Sevco's demise as an opportunity to dominate domestically for years to come, our board has ensured that they are not that far behind us.
I hope they're proud of themselves.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 21:57:58
Well said gerryc its time this penny pinching board were shown up for what they are you would think it was us who went out of business four years ago the way they hoard money.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 22:17:23
rangers have signed 9. Only payment is for the boy from Leicester whom I am told is a decent player? Who knows. I know we can say that they have signed over the hill or reject players but I don't feel st this point that they are far behind Celtic? Now if BR gets 3 quality players in this month then I think we will be fine but unless he gets that done it's going to be a struggle. Players like Scott Brown who I thought was great for years has gone past his sell by date. So has Commons. We all know BR needs to clear out about 6 midfield players just to free up wages for new players. I honestly think the issue is that he needs to free up money before he is allowed to bring in new players?

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 22:54:30
We are looking to sign a different standard of player, who invariably will have a number of options to consider. TRFC have signed free agents who have had few other offers. Celtic will add to the squad with players that will make us better in the positions which need most improvement. We will be streets ahead of the new club this year. I also don't buy onto this view about Scott brown, he was injured most of last season, let him finish his pre season preparation and he will be excellent for us again. Like most players as they get older he may have to adapt his game a bit but over the hill, certainly not!

19 Jul 2016 18:19:48
Hi ed bhoys and ghirls ed I'm hoping tomorrow night isn't a shambles again I know we've got enough to put Lincoln away but if it doesn't happen do you think celtic should be getting rid of some people at the top ie Peter laywell I don't get why we have only signed one player so far surely we should be doing more business than that.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - Why should Peter Lawwell shoulder the blame? The support didn't blame him for the last two failures to qualify for the CL when we were playing a better standard of opposition so I don't see why he should be blamed now if we go out tomorrow night.
Let's hope it cools down a bit before tomorrow night, God forbid it's too warm for our players to play football again. :=o

19 Jul 2016 18:56:11
If we cannot beat the Lincoln Imps and win the next round of Qualifliers with the players we have then it surely is time to get rid of nearly the whole squad . I think B R is quite confident that we can achieve that . He is probably most worried about c b but if we have to go through the next round without anyone in, I am sure he is up for it.

Agree1 Disagree4

19 Jul 2016 18:58:01
Peter lawwell should be to blame for that last 3 years of emmbaresment not making champions league it feels like they've pulled the wool over our eyes yet again am I the only one who feels let down by our lack of investment in the squad regarding quality signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 19:29:49
It was more to do with the management, and wrong team selection and tactics and substitutions, than it was to do with the quality of sqad.

I see that Lincoln are confident of putting us out, anything can happen in football but I hope we don't slip up but what do you think a first round knock out to this team would hold for Celtic and everyone involved with the club.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

19 Jul 2016 13:44:07
If we get knocked out then it would mean a major clear out.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 14:08:26
Do you mean the squad or from top to bottom, and isn't the CL the main reason as to why Rodgers was appointed, Ronny was doing fine with winning the league, so he'd be under severe scrutiny if we crash out at any point in qualifying, but that said, this isn't the players he wanted, I hope we find success in Rodgers.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 15:21:30
We can't be sure why Rodgers was employed . It probably was for success in Europe, but over what time span . It could also be to build a top class team in the medium time using basically the young players we have and whom we accumulate .
We can speculate until the cows come home, but unless we set in at the talks we cannot be sure what the and terms purpose of the appointment were .

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 15:49:38
Well then I assume he's been brought in for success in Europe or for complete domination of Scottish football, because Ronny was winning titles and some success in the cups, and there's no guarantee that anyone can bring Scottish domination, you can lose a one of game and in cups that's all it takes, we should theoretically have the resources to do so but I believe he'd have been brought in for European success as its what us as fans have been wanting for the past 2 years, HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 17:46:33
What do people class as European success?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2016 01:19:07
Kev 83 I don't think we could get agreement on that . Some would regard qualifying for Champions league as success, others would say European football after Christmas, but I think we have fans who would be highly critical of us not winning Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 01:58:25
ED do you think we have a realistic chance of getting Roberts, I doubt he'd pick us over city but if things don't work out with him after the loan I wonder if we could get him, even though he has a large price tag, is he worth it?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Let's at least wait until we see how this season goes. I wouldn't imagine City would be difficult to deal with if we wanted to make the deal permanent - remember the quoted £11/12 million fee to Fulham was the total value including add ons if Roberts was successful at City.}

19 Jul 2016 13:57:10
Remember reading somewhere ed? Wasn't sure how true mind you . The initial fee was only around 2 mill but like you say it was made up to 12 mill based on league appearances, cups, champions league and stuff.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Was it not about £4 million? You're right about the set up though.}

19 Jul 2016 14:10:30
I just couldn't see them letting him go under 5mil, as they need their English quota and he obviously fits the bill for homegrown, I just wonder if we'd shell out that much, he may not even be interested in returning if things at city don't work out but we can always hope eh.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 15:25:54
Is this not a no win situation for us . If Roberts plays well This season surely City will take him back if only to have a long close- up look at him .
If Roberts doesn't really set the fires a light do we want to pay £3- £m for someone we know is not great shakes.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 16:59:11
Roberts is only a young boy and will get better and better like Tierney will only get better and better.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 19:00:19
Both could become world class, unfortunately young players with such wonderful ability and prospects as they have, often turn off the road to success, girls and other temptations can get in their way .

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 09:15:45
Not that I'm paranoid but.
Reading the DR online (I would never again but that rag, however living down south it's hard to get the Celtic news) every day this last couple of weeks there has been a 'spin' on anything Celtic related.
Fair play we shot ourselves in the foot with the red imps but today they are trying to downplay the Barcelona game, yesterday was the 'we will miss out on Joe Allen to man Utd.
Everything is designed to chip away at our great club.
Of course every blue nose story is spun in the opposite direction, can you imagine if Leigh griffiths was holding out on signing a new contract? Or if Celtic had signed an over rated criminal? They would nailing is to the cross.
The Scottish media are on a par with the 1966 English brigade when it comes to bias.
Let's remember a couple of facts:
We are champions
We have a 60000 stadium
We pay our bills
We won the European cup
We do not demolish cities on our travels
We are recognised globally for our fans
And
We did not go bust
Hail hail.

Believable8 Unbelievable3

19 Jul 2016 15:29:53
I don't know how these things work but doesn't the Daily Record not benefit from everyone who reads it on-line .
As they slant everything against our great club with their smears and lies I wonder why we bother to read this typical SMSM .

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 16:10:59
your right old bhoy they get money from advertising based on hits so if u go to the dr website they are technically making money from you i don't even go on the website even tho i live in the states and i'm always on the look out for celtic news.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 17:05:00
I didn't realise that. Any suggestions where I could get decent Celtic/ Scottish football reports down south apart from online papers?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 22:51:12
Stick to the Celtic sites and try to avoid anything linking to the MSSM .
No point in reading anything to do with them, because you have to spend too long trying to interpret if there is any truth in the article or is it complete nonsense .

What's everyone's opinions on lustig, I personally think he's a solid defender, I just this his lack of pace is a real problem when he comes up against a pacey winger, I'm also not overly keen on what I've seen of janko, can't defend or attack in my opinion, obviously he can develop but I'd keep lustig over him.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

19 Jul 2016 08:26:47
I don't disagree on Janko from what we have seen so far but keep in mind he has been out for pretty much a year so was always going to be rusty and therfor think we should probs reserve judgment for a bit. Agree on Lustig and think we should get another RB and move him to CB altough I do like what I see fro Fischer whenever he plays.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 08:28:05
I agree Lustig is a very good defender but his lose of pace is becoming a problem
If he had another decent left back I would move Lustig to CB.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2016 12:06:35
Right back even.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 15:34:51
No harm to you Kev 83, you may well be right about Lustig and playing him C B, my problem with him is that we haven't seen enough of him at C B and I don't think we can risk him, in any meaningful game until we have seen him play a number of friendlies . I know a lot of fans have called for him at CB but I have my reservations just now .

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 16:08:29
He absolutly dynamite in a European game last season until we substitued him in the last quarter and ended up losing a goal. can't mind the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 22:53:31
I take your word for it, but I wonder why we substituted him, maybe injured, but hardly because he was playing too well.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 00:32:44
So what's everyone's predictions for Wednesday night, I know we're hoping for an easy game but it'll be difficult to break them down, we need to see a more creative and gutsy performance, I'm going for a hopeful 2-0.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - 4-1.}

19 Jul 2016 01:05:19
I thought 3-0 for the first leg. I'd take that now. I was working and didn't watch the game on Saturday. I read somewhere Erik had a head knock. Is he fit to play?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He should be fine.}

19 Jul 2016 01:06:06
Must say, we always seem to lose a goal somehow in the big games, can't always blame efe, need to be on form on Wednesday night.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We've still got Craig Gordon..........

19 Jul 2016 01:32:31
What ed? 4-1 to the Imps? lol. Only joking i can see us winning 6-0 we should be able to stretch them by using a bit of width and pace on our own pitch and hopefully we will have knackered out the part timers by the hour mark and half their team will be down with cramp.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's the CL, results don't matter as long as we're playing in these matches.}

19 Jul 2016 01:56:45
ED what's your thoughts on Gordon, I think last year he was good but not great, let in a few sloppy goals and I think we should be looking at a younger keeper for the future, seeing as fasan is now the number 2 after Logan's injury I think we need to buy.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Gordon's an absolute donkey that should never have been signed and has cost us in important matches since the day he signed and I have no doubt he will again this season.}

19 Jul 2016 02:09:51
Well f*** me for a bit of positivity ed lol, we should be taking 6 off this mob they are the Gibraltan equivilent of Clydebank or Yoker, though in saying that an old guy said to me while watching the game last week that he thought Yoker could beat the Imps lol. With the crowd behind us at CP any score is possible. Our superior fitness should be the telling factor too. But i understand your point ed AS LONG AS WE ARE IN THE NEXT ROUND that's ALL THAT MATTERS lol. HH.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - That is me being positive, I've been told that all that matters is playing in a CL match.}

19 Jul 2016 02:35:50
To be fair, in Gordon's first season in my opinion he saved us countless times, however I think the tides started to turn when he made that blunder against inter, but last season I'd say he was rather poor, would've loved to get ward in from Liverpool but would now love a fairly young keeper who is first team quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 03:07:59
6-0 (and I'm a pessemist) !

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 03:08:31
All that matters to me mate is winning the league and keeping that mob down in their place, and if we qualify for the CL group stages its just a bonus, i could see it differently if we got to the CL and every penny was spent on improving the team and taking us forward, but its not, its just hoarded in the bank accruing interest and keeping Lawwell in his £1m a year salary year in year out.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 04:16:12
7 - 0 to the 'tic!

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 10:24:24
The fact that were at home on a lush big pitch with a big crowd should push us on to a resounding victory. 3 up by Halftime then its up to the players desire to see how many we get from there. The pitch over there can't be pushed to the side as an excuse, it was melting rubber for christ sake, shocking.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 15:14:29

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2016 15:45:17
I don't think we can blame anyone but Saturday's game was IMO v little value to Brendan Rodgers or the Celtic players . The game on Sat was too open and in no way a practice for Wed night . We needed to play a team with lines of five and four across the defence . Practice At how midfielders can operate and create space for others to create scores . We were clueless doing these things on Tuesday night and if the weather tomorrow is anything like the 28 degrees plus in the North of Ireland it will suit the Imps down to the ground .
However, the one thing that can beat that lot stupid and make them feel they shouldn't have bothered turning up is our fans, if 50,000 + fans get behind the team and stay behind the men in hoops we will win at ease.

ED, have you heard how close we are to signing either Sinclair or Duffy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Aston Villa are waiting on another bid and Duffy is still deciding.}

19 Jul 2016 00:29:36
Thanks for the information, so have we had an offer for Duffy accepted or are we talking to him because we are confident of a deal, also what's happened with the toure deal, has it went south?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The situation is that Duffy and Toure need to decide if the want to play for Celtic, there's nothing else the Club can do except wait. There's been nothing agreed with Blackburn but they have told Celtic the price and if Duffy wants the move it will happen. Duffy has a couple of offers that are financially more lucrative and the Club are hoping the fact he's a fan and the Rodgers factor will swing it in our favour.}
