Ed is there anything happening with selling the naming rights to paradise? Surely we could get 4m a year for the naming rights! And do you think we will get a quality CF in if we qualify?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard any mention of stadium naming rights for a long while, it could be part of any new kit deal. I do think a CF/ST will be brought in but I think it might depend on getting some bodies out the door first.}

Ed if rumours are true about Warrior being our new kit suppliers I wouldn't mind the stadium being named, (The Celtic Warrior Arena)it has a nice ring to it lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one am not in favour of, either re-naming the Stadium or, indeed, the Team for ANY price . Let's try and keep a wee bit of integrity and commonsense .

The Sno Man

Agree0 Disagree0

Sno Man realistically any method of generating extra revenue, is an option that seriously must be considered.

If suggested figure stated by SOS of £4m a season is achieved, if spent on players is an excellent bonus for us. Its a guaranteed figure instead of relying on signing a bumper of a player to make money off selling on

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 3) And, of course we've seen loads of Quality Players bought in with the extraordinary amounts in revenue that has been generated in recent memory.?

The Sno Man

Agree0 Disagree0

@4. Yes we have, all i'm saying is its a nice cushion to have a guaranteed amount from naming rights each season.

Not every player is guaranteed to turn a profit, with the amount of duds we have seen recently

Celtic are in talks with Cardiff City over a deal for South Korea international Kim Bo-Kyung.

The 24-year-old midfielder was a target for the Bhoys prior to joining Cardiff in 2012

Sitting watching the Spanish Super Cup and got me wondering why we don't have a curtain raiser for the new season like this. Surely it would be a good way to start the season and would bring in some much needed finance with full house and TV coverage. What's everyone's thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not seeing Celtic vs st Johnstone as a sell out bud

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree mate unless they give St Johnstone half the tickets which they wouldn't. First game of the season with a trophy up for grabs in my opinion would be a sell out

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely a game like that wouldn't be regarded as a fund raising event. Surely the proceeds of a game like that would go to SFA to be distributed for Charity.
If the EFA can run a big Charity match pre - season the SFA could at least raise and distribute to Charities as much

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the English FA gave so little to charity that they had to change the name to Community Shield as the use of the word charity would have been illegal.}

Seem to remember the Dryburgh Cup was a kind of season opener many years ago and I saw a few high scoring games at Hampden Park?

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Yourman, whilst the sentiment is good, Celtic need as much money as possible to help us compete so a big money game right on our doorstep without any travelling would be really good for the club and a good way to open the season

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not involve a sponsor, like the Magners trophy, invite 3 top European teams to take part and get it televised by BT sport eg. Make some cash, no travelling and 3 games against decent opposition to get us up to speed for CL qualifiers. Others have done similar, can,t be that difficult to organise and better than meaningless games against amateurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that's a fair idea Chas

Hi all I know this won't go down well with everyone but why not put a small bid in for Hooper not in Norwich squad and they are looking at Jerome got to be a better bet than some we have looked at. Good age, knows the club, works well with Stokes and I think would be fantastic in RD all action style john

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more m8. I mentioned on here the other day about possibly trying to get hooper back, at least we know what we're getting with him. Wether on not there's any chance of it happening is another question. I'd certainly be happy to see him back in the hoops

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love it jonace but Hooper is out injured at the moment why he is out, they let £9 mill van wolfswinkel go to St. Ettiene? pining there hopes on hoops firing them back up because of his pedigree at that level

I think he regrets the move though! atvb

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Redknapp is a big fan. If a small bid was accepted, guess who would match it or even bid higher? QPR.

Cant understand why people are living in the past with regards hooper. There are other strikers out there you know

Agree0 Disagree0

DN30, read the post again. Of course there's loads of forwards out there.
Point being with hooper you can guarantee 20+ goals n can handle the club.
Maybe better wasting money on a balde or pukki or mido - can bring up a load of others if u want.
Who u suggesting?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Aug 2014 22:50:39
Why not sign Kyle Lardffarty as well while we are down there. The chicken in the basket of target men. Couldn't hit a Louis van Gaal's head with a handful of soup mix. I would rather we went for Oscar Pistorius if we were looking a target man

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is we don't know what we are getting with Hooper, are we getting the eager young striker who joined us scored frequently and worked hard for two and a half seasons . Or are we getting the sulking player who didn't work as before from Christmas to the cup final.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stevo perhaps you should read my response again.

Point i'm realistically making is that it is pointless even suggesting putting a small bid for Hooper for 2 reasons:

1. Norwich know they will get vast majority of transfer fee paid, so small bid would be waste of time.

2. Because of what he achieved at celtic, if he was going for buttons guarantee you he will be at QPR for a second crack at EPL.

You mention pukki, balde, mido. I regularly post about these duds and how much of a money in transfers, loan fees etc they were.

How do you know hooper would guarantee 20 goals a season? No player guarantees 20 goals a season! Look at chelsea with massive transfer fees for players like shevchenko and torres!

Who am I suggesting? i'm suggesting scouting Holland and belgium, plenty of good strikers there for buttons.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ DN you constantly go on about our "dud" signings as you put it. But never mention the successes, no club can make every transfer a success it is impossible esp at the level we buy at, every transfer is a gamble. The most important fact here is our transfer policy makes the club money it is set up for that, whish part of that do you not understand. In the current climate its not going to change so get used to it, we all want amazin signings and the new Larsson bought but realistically that's a once in a decade signing if your lucky.I repeat yet again money CANNOT be wasted on these players as they are a risk along with the successes. a few non money making ones will not outweigh the profit for the successes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman

I agree with you to an extent but the transfer policy you talk of no longer exists. It did in Lennon's first 2 seasons but who have you seen bought or brought in on a free on decent wages who would be worth a decent amount of money in Lennon's last 2 seasons or under Delia? I would say VVD is the only one as the other signings have all been squad fillers or bought because we were too cheap to put in a bid for the player we really wanted.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Nial are you trying to tell me that a fit Gordon, Matthews, lustig, Efe Izzy, Johanssen, and even mulgrew wudnt get us good money if sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rayman I think you will find I do comment on the successes.

I know every team will sign their share of dud players, nobody is disputing that.

Im failing to see what you are on about, I think you have misread my post. Your going off on a tangent about profit when the debate is about a striker who would score goals. With the current "transfer policy" as you put it- hooper is the only decent striker signed

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman

Out of the 6 you mention 3 were bought in the first 2 seasons under Lennon so would have been brought in during the timeframe when we were using that strategy.

Of the other 3 who were brought in more recently I would say that none if them would command a higher fee than we paid for them.

Gordon has played less that 10 games in 2 years. Johansen is decent but I don't think he has increased his value massively since he came to us and i'm not bother to comment on how bad I think Efe is.

Afternoon Ed, Ed what are we expecting Maribor mate any ideas? IMO they are another low scoring team, beat at the weekend 3-1 by the team above them, (3/4) Know that two of there stands (12.5k stadia) is closed due to sanctions by uefa for racial chanting, ibrami (winger) appears to be there star man & is supposed to being watched by Southampton + Newcastle scouts tomorrow, couple of never heard of Brazilian's in an otherwise relatively young team mate

What are you expecting atvb

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Oooft what do I know, Jamie? I thought we would have humped Legia yet we had to ride our luck a little to scrape through on away goals ;) I'd be happy to come back to CP with a 0-0 draw but I think we will win both legs, I watched highlights of their game at the weekend and they didn't look all that, again though neither did Legia.}

Ha ha Ed you an me both buddy a was on here telling everyone LW were . PANTS lol, least our friends @ UEFA are assisting us again in some instance ;-) by closing two of there stands diminishing the home support atvb

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's one of the perks of having someone on the executive board of the European Club Association.}

I'm going to have faith in you on this one Ed lol. Hope you are right this time mate. What are your thoughts on the new loan signing? Do you rate this guy?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've not seen enough of Wakaso but he's certainly got a better pedigree than our usual targets. We'll probably lose him for the whole of January, at least, with the ACON taking place.}

No Champions League in January Ed so at least he'll be back for our last 16 tie

Agree0 Disagree0

Wakaso not registered in time, but hopefully we can get past Maribor?!
The guy looks like he could be really handy if he fits/settles in for the groups :) and the rest of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought the cut off was eleven tonight

Celtic coach Ronny Delia confirmed the Scottish Premier League champions could not complete the signing of Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso on Tuesday due to paperwork problem.

The Bhoys had wanted to finalize the one-year loan deal from Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan before their Champions League playoff tie.

Wakaso underwent medical in Moscow and was expected to tie up the deal but that was not to be.

If the deal had gone through, the 24-year-old would have been eligible to face Slovenian side Maribor.

Delia told a press conference: “It’s going on. It doesn’t seem like there will be anything today. Hard because of paperwork.”

Hey hows you Ed? Is there any solid news about any signings? and Would Nick Powell not be worth a shout, I mean Van Gaal doesn't seem to want him, he could play both Attacking Midfield and an out and out striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Nothing has been decided about Powell yet, he is still recovering from the injury that kept him out of the American tour.}

19 Aug 2014 03:44:52
Ed seen that man city are letting John Guidetti leave surly worth a punt? Still only 22 and bags of potential could score for fun in the spl I recon I know he's not done much as of late but the chance of European football might persuade him could we afford him fee and wage demands? I've herd he has attitude problem but could be sorted if he's getting game time what's your thoughts on this lad?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Guidetti needs to concentrate on staying fit and finding a team where he will play regularly, for a 22 yr old he hasn't played anywhere near enough football.}

So Legia's co-owner said they appealed so that an ambiguous rule would be clarified.What part of fielding a suspended player will result in the opposing team being given a 3-0 walkover victory does this guy and his club not understand? A four year old kid could understand it. What they don't realise is that the suspension of a player is designed to penalise the player/club concerned. By not registering their player they actually gained an unfair advantage over St Pats by having the same number of players available in their registered squad as St Pats.
The fact that they registered him the second game against us meant he was now serving the first game of his three match suspension. Then they brought him on for the last four minutes.the result was then changed to show a 3-0 win for Celtic. Does not appear ambiguous to me and my limited education.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - in my opinion, that was said to make sure that UEFA wouldn't be too harsh on them later. They don't like frivolous appeals, or being dragged to CAS, as it reflects badly on them. Legia should just accept they messed up. The club's secretary should now be looking for a new job, in my opinion, as s/he clearly failed in their role by not ensuring the squad was registered correctly and that the manager didn't have the full details of which players could be used. The club clearly needs to revamp its off field operations to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, instead of trying to cast around for other people to blame.}

19 Aug 2014 09:06:22
Neither legia or the media have mentioned or seem to appreciate the punitive punishments Celtic would be on the receiving end of from uefa were the club to withdraw from the competition as suggested. Also if Uefa had reduced the punishment to a 100.000 euro fine for instance you would see suspended players on benches everywhere for the second legs of the play offs where the rewards would be worth taking the fine. This case shows that you obviously can name a suspended player in your playing squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

To clear one thing up that's bugged me from the start. The whole "he only played 4mins". Even if he hadn't entered the field of play the 3-0 reversal would have still taken place, as he was named on the subs bench therefore making him an active player selection and an option for the manger

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 I guess it could be argued he sat on the bench but did not play so the club took the penalty, the player also served his time and did not play so the suspension was met. The minute he stepped on to the park he became a disqualified player and that, to me, was the key point. Until then, both club and player were taking the punishment deserved.
