One of my earliest memories as a hoops fan was Big Billy's final game in the 75 Scottish cup final and Paul Wilson scoring 2 that day only days after his mother died. A vastly underrated player who in my opinion was up there with the best of that era andwill always be remembered fondly by the Celtic family. God rest your soul sir YNWA☘.

He had amazing pace. Really good player, who got a lot of undeserved stick, some of it racist.

Paul Wilson was very quick and frightened a lot of defences. He was a player who could shoot with both feet. He was probably the first Asian player in Scottish football and got hammered with Wilson a darkie at most games. RIP to a superstar of the Celtic family πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€.

A sad day for the club with the passing of Paul Wilson. A favourite player of mine at the time when we were spoiled by a wealth of talent at the club, Harry Hood, King Kenny, Dixieland etc. A great athlete and quick as lighting. Came to the fore in season 74-75 when he scored a barrow load. RIP my bhoy and thoughts with his family.

Terribly sad. RIP.
Is there any truth in the report in the papers that he even received racist abuse from our supporters? Dreadful if true, and also if it is fabricated.

Andy the fans in the old jungle used to nickname him toumai after the character from the 1973 tv series elephant boy.
Different times back then, our support didn't see it as racist.

A player of colour born in India playing in the 70s nicknamed after a character in a 70s tv show set in India seen through today's eyes looks racist but this wasn't a name giving to him to mock him . the names you would hear aimed at being offensive to Indians and Pakistanis at that time would be been sabu or gungda gin. in saying that i was a pre teen and young teen during his Celtic career and couldve interpreted it wrongly . i started going to games regularly in early 70s and can tell tell you as one who stood in the jungle I can't recall him ever being racially abused by anyone around me or collectivelly. i did hear other clubs fans racially abusing him and oldco fans taunting him about his mother's death. on his day a great player . rip.

Thanks Marty, DRB. It sounds like media point scoring, which is appalling at any time, but today, it's abysmal.
I vaguely remember him, but only on tv snippets as I was so young then. I do remember him being really rated as a player though.
As for the Huns, their depths know no limits and clearly will never change.

Like you DRB I don't think it was racist by our fans, I think it was meant to be a sign of affection for want of a better word.
The abuse he got from other fans was heard regularly though.
Great player, whole hearted and a joy to watch. RIP Paul.

Sadly though Andy I was at the game mark Walter's debuted for them against us and the abuse he got that day was sickening.

As a few of you said, different times.
Look at Jim Davidson with his jokes about Chalkie.
Even Ronnie Barker taking the p*ss out of the Scottish coloured guy in jail.
Del Boy (Bhoy) talking about the P*ki paper shop and going for a Chinese meal or ch*nky
Most of it was not meant to insult, it was just common. I had some friends of various races and they never got upset.
I worked for an Indian company in Singapore, my nickname was Casper because of my colour (and I was the corporate HSE Manager! - even the VP called me that)
Yes, different times.

Yes for some reason media very optimistic on a new club victory, even my goldfish memory ex bears are getting excited I have a biggish bet with them and the suit for Saturday.
But almost guaranteed bet of the game is a penalty and an ordering off, you heard it hear first.

Personally I think me and JB67 could play at centre half and still rip them a new rectum. Our biggest advantages are (1) the PSG defeat (2) they believe they're nearer us than they are I think deluded is the word and (3) Pedros a fud. So rather than sit in like Ross County and be difficult to break down I think they'll have a go which should make it a field day for Roberts, Florist, Sinclair, Dembelle, Grifiths or whoever plays up front. Even money is fantastically generous on the bookies part in my view! Prediction-Hun stands empty at half time. ☘️.

That's mad odds! I know Paddy Power (thanks Ed) like to push the boat out a bit, but my goodness, that's a steal! But then again, like backing a horse int he grand national and worrying about a stray intervening, the ref and his assistants could be on a good whack to "influence" the game. That would be, and has been for a long time, my only concern.

i would play a lot of young bhoys and fringe players on wednesday night and maybe give dembele the first 45 to get more up to full fitness, i want all the top team ready for ibrox to make sure a full hunskelping occurs.

We should play the team to win. We should be able to mix it up a bit but not to play too many kids. I want another treble and each part of that needs to be approached with respect.

Giving McCann's team a right good hiding is the objective and whatever that takes is how we should set up.

You would take us getting knocked out the cup and then beat by sevco! That can't be a serious post mate, your at the wind up surely! If your serious then I must say your talking absolute nonsense! I could never bring myself to say I would take a defeat off that mob! And winning the first cup of the season will set us up nicely once again for another treble!

Cup games come first for me. So I wouldn't throw too much caution to the wind against Dundee. That said, we performed really well with a few changes in the last round against Kilmarnock and BR has shown that, domestically anyway, we have a strong enough squad that can be juggled and come away with the right results.

Agree0 Disagree7

18 Sep 2017 13:27:04
the team im talking about would still beat dundee, with the likes of de vries, ralston, edouarde, miller, mcgregor playing, with dembele and boyata maybe getting the first 45, with griffiths and sinclair on the bench for insurance.

For the first time in many years we have a class manager with a strong enough pool to deal with multiple fixtures with confidence and there is great competition for most places.
With the one less recovery day after the cup tie, he will have no doubts about his preferred teams for the next three games and send them out to win as usual.

my first three words were "don't want it. "

what I do want is my team to win EVERYTHING.

but the thing I want the most is European football.

when ragers won the league cup, we called it the diddy cup so I'm not to upset if we don't win that. The league is already sewn up - I think we all know that - Christ - bookies have already paid out on that! So I am really not too arse if we loose the odd game.

also to me - Records - don't mean $hit.

In the here and now staying in Europe after Christmas is progression and beating Anderleict over there is the best chance we have of that.

So to recap I want to win everything - but if we could only choose one out of the next 3 games. Id choose to win in the Champions League against the team in pot 3.

then when we beat Munich.
