We are a young team, playing in a pretty poor league and when we play Psg or Bayern we are playing the best players in the world. These teams are filled with seasoned internationals who are used to wining champions leagues and world cups.
We need to put it in perspective and hopefully learn over a couple of seasons in the group stages.
Our realistic target was getting more points than Anderlecht and we are on course to do that.

Saintboneventure you are correct to a point. We understand we are behind PSG, Bayern, Man City etc but you need to adapt your game plan. Brendan seems to think that we should still try and play the same way we do in the league? We can't play that way because we don't have the ball and the other players are superior so we re always going to struggle.

We need to change the way we play in Europe not simply say we won't change. Unless we change we will continue to be beaten. You can go out against teams like PSG and Bayern and play wide. You need to be very compact and rely on hitting on the break, give the ball up when they are in front of you and try and snatch something. Trying to press and play these teams like SPL teams is wrong. BR has got it wrong in Europe several times now.

Better opposition granted. Put that aside it still irkes me that we continue to suffer from rabbit in the headlight syndrome and misplace simple passes. Never helps in these ties.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 07:43:50
Doesn't matter how good the opposition is, there is no excuse for misplaced passes, in fact when you give away possession cheaply, you not only disupt your own teams momentum, you fill the opposition with confidence, and make them look better than they are.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 10:23:34
Aindoh the mis placed passes comes from the quality and fitness of opposition we're up against, we've got to pass that second or two quicker than in our domestic games hence mistakes happen. Unfortunately this is the difference between £50 million and £5 million pound players they think quicker and pass accurately quicker.

Tonight's result was roughly what I expected. I would say the gap between us and Europe's elite is equivalent to Scotland's 2nd best and us . I can't see us closing the gap on Europe's elite in the foreseeable future and I can't see Aberdeen closing the gap on us either.

I love Griff but I just think Dembele is better suited for CL games - purely for his height and hold up play. Not a good night bhoys but hopefully forgotten by beating Hibs.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

18 Oct 2017 23:36:29
Griff had nothing to work with. Even a rubbish outfit like Scotland manages to get him into the game. I do agree that Moussa is better suited for the lone striker role in a way, but Griff has become a world class forward and we'll be lucky to hold on to him.

Agree1 Disagree2

18 Oct 2017 23:52:01
Ntcham is the weak link in midfield for me. He isn't a defensive mid and he isn't an attacking mid imo. Ok for the SPFL but wants to much time on the ball and his decision making poor, gives ball away. Wee McGregor would be better in there more legs and forward thinking also.

Agree2 Disagree1

19 Oct 2017 00:24:32
I agree about Ntcham, I think he is being thrown into these big games, and I don't think he is ready for them, he gave the ball away a lot against psg and the same tonight, when someone is regularly giving the ball away, it puts everyone under pressure, I would find some way of keeping Griffith's in the team even when Dembelle us playing.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 02:22:31
Ntcham is a complete and utter waste of money. the vast majority of passes are utter Pish and his shooting is woeful.

Two signings from Rogers that are piss poor and having to play Gamboa in a makeshift defence, when even the full stength one is not up to CL life.

I'm hoping thus gas the same effect as the semi final defeat to the dark side.

The board need to sanction investment and Rigets needs to sell Ntcham and Hayes and buy a few players.

Rogers gloss is fading with me for his insistence on playing his £4.5m buy and letting Gamboa back on the pitch at half time.

We have regressed as a team since last year. Our balance and power have gone with Sideyways Sid Ntcham playing the safe baw or just giving it away.

Utter waste of a jersey.

Agree2 Disagree5

19 Oct 2017 04:59:09
Gamboa is useless how many times does he allow the boy to cross, at that level out his depth. we need to get a couple of decent defenders in for europa cup presuming we qualify.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 07:40:26
I'd like to defend Ntcham as I think there's a real player in there . . . but you are all of course right. He's seemed nervous and hasn't been getting the basic stuff correct. Maybe he needs more time to shoulder the obvious responsibility. Saying that, Broony and Armstrong were no better last night: many of the players were obviously struggling to compete with a better class of player on a one-on-one matchup.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 08:34:42
Cav agree think ntcham needs time but gamboa had 90 mins to at least put a tackle in and failed miserably he won't do for that level domestic level at best.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 09:16:43
I agree Magicpole.
I think Ntcham is close to being as bad as N'Guemo - and I thought he was one of the worst players to ever wear a Celtic shirt. Ntcham offers nothing at all - he hardly wins the ball and his distribution is appalling: it's like playing other a man down. McGregor is a far better option and so is Rogic.

Gamboa was an absolute liability as well - his pace is meant to be his main attribute but you would never have known he had any at all based on last nights effort.
I think Rodgers has made mistakes in both the game against PSG and again last night: against PSG Tierney was being pulled inside to almost play as an extra centre back and they had acres of space and time down their right hand side - last night Gamboa was horribly exposed time and time again.

On both occasions Rodgers did nothing to change formation or personnel to try and cut those threats out and we were picked off at will: allowing that to continue without trying to do something about it is. It good enough.

19 Oct 2017 09:14:31
Giving him more time to slow us down is a mistake. He is awful and should be punted. No doubt he will be played on Saturday and will be gash again, ruining our shape and movement. Giving Hibs hope until he is hooked at 60 minutes.

He's a midfield Regi Blinker. Totally rubbish and in need of getting rid.

The whole balls up signing wise in the summer, has left us worse, not better than we were last year. If you don't think so watch every game we have played so far.

We have invested/ wasted £5.8m of the hard earned CL money. We can't afford to waste anymore.

I watched Rogers post match interview.

I don't know what fecking game he was watching, it must have been on HD or something because it wasn't the game I endured.

All the defensive issues we have are down to Rogers. He talks about being a CL team, then buys two utter duds and fails to bring in defenders.

If he was getting a report card from me it would simply say, Pish. Last year is gone. Sort out your defence and don't even try to defend the signing of Hayes.

I hope the board took note of the need to burst a £20 note come January.

Breath should not be held.

Armstrong should be playing alongside brown in midfield and rogic in number 10 role. Ntcham so far iff the mark ag this level. Should be playing with tried and tursted players.

19 Oct 2017 14:30:13
pull yer heads in, what's wrong with you pair
the shite your spouting about ntcham is the same crap
i heard about biton and big rogic and they both turned it around the boy ntcham has got class written all over him
feck sake boys young only been here a few months and il bet he turns out to be another top signing come the end off
season, and by the way managers can make mistakes they're not immune to it but rodgers knows his stuff get off there backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 15:15:59
Again, well said Magicpole.
What I don't understand is the refusal to try and change things. The signings have also been very poor - if reports were tonne believed, Ntcham was far from being our first choice target. It looks to me a bit like a desperation signing. But why? Midfield is our strongest area and we have loads of options. Now we are stuck with a £4.5 million dud who will probably get picked purely to justify the price tag. Brown, Armstrong, Rogic, McGregor, Henderson and even Bitton are better than Ntcham - and that just makes his signing all the more galling.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2017 21:45:04
Aye we were gubbed tonight and aye we were fortunate only to concede 3 but this wisnae Alloa in the petrified cup we were playing but the hardest thing tonight was listening to Rob MacLean laying it on thick about how we were taught a harsh lesson at Europe's top table . didn't mention the 375K every SPFL club made off us . as usual they cue up to slaughter us but we are there and always will be.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

18 Oct 2017 22:12:29
Thought Rob McLean was over the top tonight with his constant "battered in bavaria" chat.
We just need to cut out the silly mistakes and being so scared of the opposition. A bit of confidence goes a long way and that has to start from the back. Craig Gordon a liability once again. He made a few great saves but instills no confidence in defence and is caught out far too often.
I think BR also has to adapt to who we are playing.
But we can't compete with these teams and I'll be delighted if we can finish 3Rd and get a decent run after christmas.

Agree2 Disagree3

18 Oct 2017 22:15:42

Can u tell me any other player in the team who did anything great?

The only joy these currents get is watching Celtic lose. None of their lot stay in Europe long enough to unpack a suitcase before they are cuffed by 'Fuctivano or Real Social Club'. The gloating and smirking soon disappears when Celtic remind them of their place, hidden in our shadow.

Agree2 Disagree2

18 Oct 2017 22:40:00
No Rayman I don't think any of our players were particularly good. And it's not a reaction on tonight particularly but he makes mistakes in every game. A good shot stopper but at this level it's not good enough.
Like I said not a knee jerk reaction but something that must be addressed in the near future if we're to improve and make an impact in europe.

19 Oct 2017 02:24:13
Prod McLean was a disgrace. I hope they stop using that can't as a commentator. I despise him.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Oct 2017 06:59:34
He had the cheek to blame brown for the 3rd goal. Rayman CG is terrible and could have done better with all the goals he has weak wrists and always parries the ball into danger areas never seen someone at his height being able to turn 3ft 2 for crosses we need a better keeper and the couple of good saves were shots that hit him.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 11:41:10
You all can't be serious? Gamboa has hardly played since joining and was lacking in match fitness when thrown in at the deep end against one of the best attacking teams in the world. I would expect him to be shaky. Brendan did make a mistake in not starting Ajer and keeping Lustig on the right in my opinion, however he's paid the big bucks to make these decisions. Some of you are slating Brendan for his choice in tactics and signings but the last time I checked we were still undefeated domestically and on course to finish 3rd in a CL group that includes 2 favourites to win the competition who have spent millions on players and another team with a lot of great young talent. You would think we has spent millions on Mexicans that don't perform and have a manager that's on another planet the way you lot are going on. Dislike this all you want but I'm only reiterating the facts of our current position.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Oct 2017 15:00:40
Simply cannot believe the comments on here re Gordon, so let's go through the goals.
1; a header by Lebandowski (No less) 1 of the best strikers in the world is in the middle of the box on his own with a free header (Lustig had no idea where he was and Gamboa watched him move and left him) puts a powerful header to the corner and CG can only make a good save he has no time to decide where he can palm it all he can do is save it and hope his defenders bail him out.
YET AGAIN his defenders let him down and the ONLY player in the vicinity for them is Mueller and he reacts first to tap in.
So question is wtf was Lustig and Boyata doing.
If you are a central defender and u know crosses are coming in and u have 1 of the best strikers in the world against you its not rocket science to say to yourself where the f*** is he.
2 Gamboa skinned not showing him inside to bodies and let him cross fat too easy, again basic defending, cross comes in and hey ho we have not 1 not 2 but 3 Bayern players unmarked 12 yards out either could have pulled it down to score but the header is put back across goal into far corner with CG going other way. He had no chance with that.
3 Yes it was poor distribution from CG but tell me a keeper that doesn't do it, more importantly we had a corner to defend.
Cross comes in and free header, why no one on post?
Hummells is a danger at set pieces why not picked up?
Again CG no chance.

So that's my take, if you had told me we would lose 3-0 its perfectly believable, if you were to tell me we lost 3-0 from 3 headers I would be saying wtf.
All 3 goals were down to extremely poor defending and how we set up, we clearly can't defend properly at this level or pass for that matter and are not set up to make us difficult to beat.
I fail to see how that's CGs fault.

One of the girls made this suggestion for tonight.
With Celtic playing Bayern away than at home, why not treat games as a two legged affair and try and "qualify" after game at Celtic Park.
ie 2-2 tonight and 1-1 Parkhead, Celtic go through on away goals lol or as in this CL group a better head to head than Bayern.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Oct 2017 18:03:31
A better head to head vs. Bayern would be an achievement in itself Tim, and could, of course, see us through to the last 16. To be honest when the draw was made for the group any point against Bayern or PSG stood out as an absolute bonus for me. The target was finishing above Anderlecht for me personally, and we look on course to do that.

Here we go again into another big game and we still don't have a settled back four. As much as I like Jozo if he can't stay fit for any length of time he becomes a liability and it's time to move him on.
Hopefully we up the performance tonight cause as of late the team has been pretty flat. A good result or performance is what we are looking for. IBWT.

Said the same thing yesterday lawman! We're constantly going into these big games at a disadvantage! The big mans injury problems are a major problem for me! Like u I really rate him and he brings a calmness to our defence, but the manager is seriously going to have to look at this in January! If it keeps up then we must buy a realise centre half! He obviously doesn't rate Erik so that leaves us with boyata as the only trusted centre half which is a massive worry!

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Oct 2017 11:28:34
I hope this is not a surprise to anyone given we all knew in the summer that a centre half was needed.

I hope in January that we sign a first team, first choice centre half as Jozo despite being a good defender doesn’t seem to be reliable enough when we need him most due to injury

Big question is who?

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Oct 2017 12:12:09
Dugs in the street knew we needed a CB better than what we have in back up. As Celtic perennially do, we dithered and failed to get one.

Is anyone surprised Simo is injured? I'm always surprised when he isn't.

Needs sorted and I hope they are working toward that now and not waiting until January to scramble about.

Two of the biggest stand-outs in the Anderlecht game were Boyata and Simunovic and I fear for any permutation that BR goes with tonight as they have so much quality and goal threats all over the park.
Lustig has been very inconsistent and Biton is never a centre back in his life, while Gamboa is still untested at any decent level? Leaving KT and Boyata to hold the fort.
Thankfully Broony is back and Nitcham will feel better after his second half in Belgium and goal on Saturday.
It's really up to the midfield and front players to do a double shift and try their best to make something happen from whatever possession we have; but it's a tough ask and not really expecting too much at such a difficult venue.
