Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

18 Jul 2014 22:06:45
Ed please give us a wee rumour so we can talk about something positive for once today! It's days/incidents like this that I despair at a section of our support on their political and moral high horses. Any transfer news whatsoever? 🙏

What players do we want realistically at paradise? Hooper?, barrow(osterlunds boy?), harry maguire(Sheffield ), Mackay Steven, nick Powell, Andrew Robertson. What about iniesta? Push the boat right out!
Any other players people out there?

Get rid of stokes, balde, mulgrew, even Matthews for decent cash and spend on a bit of quality.
Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You should stay of the mushrooms mate. Iniesta is still arguably the best no 10 in the world, he is just totally exhausted carrying the Barca team for the last 3 years. Iniesta/Xavi/Messi have ruled the world for the last decade, you can see in their play that they have played too many games - Guardiola never used to rest them at all, they practically played every game, if you had taken the 3 of them out that team it would have been ordinary. Iniesta is at his peak, he would improve any team in the world, and with todays valuations is worth at least £30/£40 Million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iniesta could play in any team, as much as I would love to see him at Celtic.

Read Alex Ferguson's book on my hols there and he mentions the Barca midfield of recent times quite a bit. If you play 4 in midfield, Barca would play 5. Gives us a wee bit of thought to this 4-3-3 particularly when Aberdeen over-ran our midfield in the Scottish Cup game although Lennon did nothing to change it.

I want players who will improve our team, will MacKay-Steven, Robertson, Powell? Powell probably but not sure the others would and until then I just don't think we can get rid of players.

Looking forward to seeing how Ronny goes about this as I think we lack quality and depth - I also still maintain a good few of our youth players are not good enough, hope I'm wrong though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Diouf, Choupo-Moting, Briand, Bendtner, Hangeland, Ochoa, Del Piero - all freebies I think and would bring something and well worth going after. Ultimately, how much will we spend? We can all sit here and name players that are better but I just don't know if we'll go out and get those three or four real quality signings.

Mrs E. hits it, too many players similar standard who haven't impressed, who's going to take some of them off us?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Mrs E on the youth players, the only one that I've seen over the last few years that I think could go to the top is Henderson, the rest look very very average. Hopefully Deila finds the root of the problem - why we can't produce a world class player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just feel that we have been overly cautious with the 2m limit recently. PL has said we are willing to spend that bit extra if we find a player who is worth the bit extra and still have the ability to sell on and he's been saying the same stuff for a few years now with no result!
Who was the last person we spent that sort of money on Scott brown?4.4m?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say it was Brown yes SOS. And anybody who thinks that move hasn't worked out doesn't know what they're on about.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think most of them look ordinary and definitely don't look better than say Stuart Armstrong at Dundee Utd. Twardzik, Chalmers, George, Irvine etc have been breaking into the 1st for the last 2 seasons and haven't made any real impact at all. I know Armstrong is a year older but he's a much more mature player and could easily captain Dundee Utd. I don't know if that's Lennon's fault or he just didn't rate these players from what he was seeing in training etc.

Honestly think Celtic need to do these young guys a favour and let them go or play them now. To be blunt and based on what I've seen, I'd let them go.

Watt's on his last legs as well. Lennon, Strachan, Billy Stark and his Manager at Lierse all can't be wrong.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, don't know?

If we don't sign a Centre Forward I reckon a fan should offer to play for free, couldn't make it any worse!

I know I will probably get stick for posting this but you can't have one rule for one and another rule for another . Nir biton is a young talented footballer who has his own personal beliefs who are we to say he's wrong or right ok he shouldn't have posted them on his page but he was young and made a mistake! Anthony stokes has publicly stated his views and beliefs and not one of us has slated him for it . I'm a football fan I am interested only in what he does in a celtic jersey on the pitch . The Lord said let he who has not lived without sin cast the first stone .

Celtic always!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Come on Chalkybhoy get it right - he actually said, He who is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone. But I agree with your sentiment. As we all know, regardless of your religion/color/politics/sexuality etc etc, you are welcome at Celtic. It's far from ideal what he said, he also shares a dressing room with Kayal, a supposed friend. Unlike many Celtic fans I'm not a pseudo expert on Middle East politics, but I certainly feel for any nation that is suffering, like the Palestinians are at present.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, he was a young man showing support for his countrymen. I for one am glad that I don't live in the Middle East were tragically death is all too common. Remember Celtic is founded on being inclusive - so focus on the excellent tradition that Celtic has.

Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chalkybhoy
I, too am a football fan and a Celtic supporter So I am not going to slate either Stokes or Biton . I am sure footballers will always say the wrong thing, so what .

Agree0 Disagree0

Leave him alone, he's part of the Celtic family, who cares what he says, he's only young. Israel and Palestine has nothing to do with Scotland or Celtic football club, just shows u how daft a minority of us actually are!

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright ed mate wondering if u seen what biton posted on twitter? if so what do u make of it? lot of fans wantin him sacked over it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - As usual it just shows how some supporters profess to support freedom of expression.... as long as it's the same opinions as theirs. It will be the same people who were singing that 'Griffiths sings what he wants' or who kicked up a fuss about the GB's poppy banner. I seen someone Tweet 'Politics shouldn't be a part of football but Biton should be sacked'. We all know there is an element of perma-offended, rent-a-cause bleeding hearts in our support.

Anthony Stokes from Eire, shows support for Irish Republicanism = hero.
Nir Biton from Israel, shows support for Israeli solders = scumbag.

Rangers were chastised for their 120 years of anti-Catholic and anti-Eire signing policy yet some supporters want to dictate that CFC shouldn't be buying Israeli players. There is a difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, Biton and Kayal have friends and family living through the situation first-hand, they have more right to, and are far better qualified to comment, than any of us. Were CFC supporters not allowed to worry or show support for their friends and family who fought in the Gulf War? Should they not be allowed to pray they returned safely? I remember when the Gulf War was going on, there was a local lad sent over there and every week at Mass the priest asked us to pray for his safe return, whether I agreed with the war is irrelevant, I knew his family and didn't want them to have to go through losing their son/brother/uncle. Young soldiers are only dispensable pawns in a war, especially in a country where National Service is enforced.
Look at the Club's official website where it clearly states:

'We ensure that all members of society, irrespective of race, creed or colour, are given equal chance, in line with the club’s own values. The club is open to all and we actively campaign to promote social inclusion and to end discrimination on grounds of race and religious belief.'

Let's not get distracted from the reality of the situation by singling out a young man who has done no more than ask God for his fellow countrymen's safety, we need to end the Zionist's hold over the world, the situation in Palestine is sadly, and tragically, only the tip of the iceberg. Just remember come September 18th that Britain has stood by and allowed this situation to happen. The USA will give Israel over $3 BILLION worth of weapons this year and we all know how cosy the UK likes to be with the USA. If you read up on it all it is actually quite frightening.}

18 Jul 2014 15:56:02
Can't disagree with anything u said mate a was suprised when a seen it just solely cause I would have assumed he would maybe have some sort of idea about the kind of knee jerk reaction it might have caused due to what's going between israel and palestine right now but I can see where he was coming from. If a british footballer done a post and public prayer for british troops in iraq it wouldn't be made an issue of even though the british/american army have massacred god knows how many innocent iraqi people

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with freedom of expression and individuals should be allowed to voice their opinions freely. I also understand that when you are in the public eye you have a higher profile. As long as what is being twittered, tweeted whistled or whatever is not illegal or immoral to the international community then so be it. Certain professions are seen as representing the organization they are employed by and as long as their employers are satisfied then, again, so be it. How would I feel if a Celtic player was supporting Satanism? Interesting.

Agree0 Disagree0

I’m going to against the grain here and agree with Ed, its going too far now. The contradictions are way beyond a joke.

I know I can be just as vocal as the next person and i’m not perfect but this is ridiculous. I would actually question if the perma offended folk have their own friends, family and house in order.

We stay in the UK and pay into a system that has been guilty of many an illegal war and crime, we might not support it but really what have we done to stop it?

I’ve actually seen folk on forums and social media who feel they do not want to lose face (on a forum, twitter etc) so they cannot support the Club they’ve followed for years? Now I may have picked this up wrong but surely there’s something not right here?

Once you start dictating a players politics or views then you become the oppressor – no matter how unacceptable you think their view is.

Another by the way, I am no idea of the translation either but seems we have many multi linguists.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to say Ed I enjoyed reading your well thought out, articulate answer to GunnieBhoys question. Some of us can be well accused of selective morals. Wishing people's safety shouldn't be a crime. Leave the lad alone. Some of "our own" have done much worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much mate.}

18 Jul 2014 09:41:08
N Biton walks into a storm.Much as any right thinking.person despises the slaughter of innocent men woman and children, Celtic fans need to be very careful how they look upon Biton now.He should not be judged by race or religion., but if proven he is backing the evil regime that is presently.bombarding the people of gaza he must be asked to leave the club with immediate effect

Unfortunately gods and borders have been created by powerful people so as they can call on their servants to slaughter on their behave to retain and increase their wealth. From the history and prayers taught in schools to the msm we are constantly bombarded with nationalism and religion to a degree where sane men are convinced that to kill another is for the greater good.

No side is right, no side is wrong. All sides.are mislead.

amen

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's important people understand the difference between Zionism n anti-Semitism as some of the responses I've seen referring to him as a "Jew b*****d", etc are not on but Biton posting any form of IDF support (whether he served for them or not) after 8 days of murdering Palestinian children n civilians falls under anti-Arab racism / Zionism in my eyes.

Really doesn't surprise me considering he supports Maccabi Tel-Aviv, a team riddled with Arab hating racists in their support!

I know he deleted it n replaced it with a "peace on earth" pic but he's burnt his bridges at the club now, Tuesday will be a platform for the fans to show solidarity with Palestine (flags, keffiyeh's, the lot) n Biton will realise the mistake he's made!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Would you feel the same if an American player showed support to their armed forces? I never seen any Man City fans wanting Aguero sacked for the 'Malvinas banner'. See how petty it all gets, and the pettier we make it the more it takes away the main focus of it all. How many people have spent their self-righteous day on social media talking about Biton, it has became more about him rather than highlighting what's happening over there.
Ronny Deila must be wondering what the f**k he's got himself into.}

I'm not religious and feel that religion causes a lot more wars and murders than anything else in the world! But I never seen any/many incase my memory is wrong wanting to banish stokes from our team for going to IRA fundraisers/events? I'm just a Celtic fan with no bigoted beliefs but are these two players not guilty on some levels of the same misconduct?

Agree0 Disagree0

He is an Israeli and has every right to support Israeli troops whether you or I agree with him or not. I'd imagine living in Israel as a Jewish citizen you would have different views from the ones you do. It goes back to the old saying: "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter". He posted a prayer for the safety of the Israeli soldiers being deployed, that is all. He never praised the handling of Gaza or showed any happiness over the excessive civilian deaths. Also this was all on his personal twitter account. He does not speak for Celtic Football Club or it's fans and neither do all the Celtic fans attacking him on social media. As long as he gives his all on the park for Celtic and keeps his politics for his own time then he will have my support as a Celtic player. I think sometimes outlet fans are a bit over the top with taking the moral high ground on political issues and need to realise that the club is not a political entity and does not necessarily take sides in the Israel/Palestine conflict and therefore hopefully will not act rashly and sack him as some people have suggested. I'm sure big Fraz as an Englishman sees the IRA as a terrorist group so would these fans demand his contract to be ripped up for wearing a poppy or observing Remembrance Day? Let's just try and stick to the football and keep politics out of Celtic Park!

Agree0 Disagree0

If that was to happen I would want celtic to ban everyone who did that and the police to ejectct them out the park, the whole idea stinks of hpocrosy hb, freespeech the right to express onselves politically, were these not arguments you put forward for the gb, and now you want to persecute biton for doing that, get a grip.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I chopped the last bit of that DRB, I'd rather not start discussing specific events or it just ends up tit for tat bickering and I don't think any of us have the answers.}

Not a problem ed,, and hb don't take this as an attack but a discussion as the tone or sentiment can be lost when written and not spoken

Agree0 Disagree0

Hamilton you must be having a laugh mate. Who are you to decide for the whole support whether he has burnt his bridges? And any fan who uses Tuesday as a chance to show our solidarity with Palestine is a disgrace! Tuesday is about Celtic and nothing else. I agree with your views on the conflict but do not drag my beloved club into it, we get enough bad press with the IRA stuff already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kevbhoy you are right, Tuesday night is about supporting and encouraging our players and our club . Not that it matters but I don't think filling Murrayfield with Palestinian flags will help those poor people one bit .

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a football site. However as it's the topic then why does this young man not have the right to show he cares about family and friends? Cery omments about innocent people in Gaza are correct but don forget it's Hamas that's lobbing rockets from there. Stop that and no retaliation and this young man (or any player from Ukraine, Syria, Africa etc) would be a topic for football not politics.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Usually I would have body swerved the whole topic but as it was directly involving a CFC player I felt it was only right it was spoke about. There's always two sides to every conflict and when it's all over it always the 'plebs' like us that lose the most, people need to waken up and realise that it's the rich politicians that are wrong, they are the evil ones.
North Koreans believe they won the World Cup because that's all their 'news' told them, the government and the media they control tell them anything and the people lap it up, they don't know any better - and that doesn't only happen in North Korea.

Your right ed the faithful at ibrox think they're still the same club

Agree0 Disagree0

Good closure Ed. Glad you let the posts roll for a bit as it was important. Lennon clip nice touch. Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks.}

Posted this on the GB board earlier, Favourite Player: Year by Year.

I was thinking about who's been my favourite Celtic player, season to season, since I started going to the games regularly.

So here goes:

97/98: Larsson / Lambert
98/99: Larsson / Lambert
99/00: Viduka / Moravcik
00/01: Larsson / Valgaeren / Mjallby
01:02: Larsson / Lambert / Hartson / Mjallby
02/03: Larsson / Hartson / Balde / Sutton
03/04: Larsson / Sutton / Hartson
04/05: Hartson / Petrov
05/06: Hartson / Petrov
06/07: Nakamura / Boruc
07/08: Boruc / Robson / McDonald
08/09: Samaras / Boruc
09/10: Keane / Hinkel
10/11: Ledley / Hooper
11/12: Ledley / Ki
12/13: Samaras / Ledley / Lustig
13/14: van Dijk / Commons / Ledley

How would everyone else's look?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just thinking if big Viduka would have stayed for another year under Martin O'Neill him and Larsson would have been a great partnership. I suppose in hindsight we wouldn't have got big Sutton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Viduka was a mercenary and wanted more cash. Was happy to use Celtic to achieve his aims and fortunately wee McCann would not be blackmailed. Same can be said for Cadette and DiCannio. All great players for us but thought they were bigger than the club.

While I have been ill I have been watching with interest all that is happening down Celtic Park.
My thoughts are the new manager seems to have fresh ideas which is welcome. But I hope he is strong enough to stand up to lawwell for money to buy players. our Peter will happily sit on the cheque until the window closes yet still be prpeared to sell our prize assets.
We need a replacement for Ambrose now, he is and always will be a bomb scare. he cannot defend or pass.
i hope Delia can get the best out of Boerighter, Pukki and Balde.
Also what is the deal with playing a friendly in germany this weekend? surely we should be playing these games at murrayfield to get used to the new surface?
I will try and post more in the coming days, so let us hope we have another champions league campaign to look forward to.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think if we signed a replacement cb big efe could be a cracking defensive mid! Strong powerful land comfortable going forward just my opinion.
