Right guys players you expect to leave in the January window?
Big Erik
Henderson
Gamboa
Benyu (on loan)
Sneaky suspicion Armstrong if bid comes in.
Anyone else?

18 Dec 2017 22:24:49
Ajer on loan probably.

Agree1 Disagree5

18 Dec 2017 22:38:55
Hayes, Simunovic, Erik, Gordon and Gamboa can go. None of them will get better and are simply not good enough. A few others yet to prove it but might come good - Kouassi needs a run but must be doubts about him. What has happened to Moussa?

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Dec 2017 23:16:12
Can't see Hayes leaving. Ajer I think will be kept tae.

Agree0 Disagree5

19 Dec 2017 08:13:02
Johnston, Miller and Aitchison are going to have to consider loans soon if they are not given game time. Said enough times last week that I don't believe playing in the Development league is any good for them. Considering the lack of game time Ajer has had this season his development and learning how to defend would have been better served with another 6 months at Kilmarnock, even more so with Clarke an ex defender there.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 18:56:59
Our squad is small enough without loaning out players who we might need.
If our coaches are not better than those of other Scottish teams, then I am living in a very deluded world.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Dec 2017 19:39:49
Chris i am pretty certain Ajer would have learnt a lot more about defending by playing 19 games with Kilmarnock rather than sitting on the bench or at training. If the defence is being taught so well at training why did they let in 4 goals against Hearts. I have been saying since last week these young players should be getting game time rather than us playing players who clearly need rest yet they haven't been given game time so what use is training when you ain't playing, unless of course you think the Development league is a great standard. I dont.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Dec 2017 21:11:22
Petrov, I don't agree, if he learned a lot in the 19 games with Killie he would have played a bigger role this season . He played some games at start of season and obviously disappointed those who matter . He was out of first team match squad for some time but obviously leaned plenty from the better quality coaches and players at Lennoxtown . At least recently he has got some match time and first team squad time.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 22:15:58
I can only go by what the lad said himself and that was that he learn a lot from being at Killie. Would really like to see him involved tomorrow, I'm sure he will be he was terrific last week.

18 Dec 2017 20:01:48
What's your thoughts friends on signing James McLean? Good enough for Celtic?

Believable8 Unbelievable4

{Ed007's Note - I'd take him to compete with Sinclair on the left no probs, the guy would run through a brick wall for the Club and the support plus it would be worth it just for the reaction of Ibrox Klan and the media.}

18 Dec 2017 20:35:06
He would be a great signing.

Agree3 Disagree3

18 Dec 2017 20:40:02
Sinclair definitely needs someone breathing down his neck, anyone who wants to play for us that much and has the ability should be given serious consideration. I'd love it if he signed just to see the hun media going into hyperventilation.

Agree1 Disagree3

18 Dec 2017 20:14:47
Agreed 100% Ed! And he's in print as saying 'He'd give anything to play for Celtic'. Bring the the Derry Bhoy Home!

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - He's not going to win us the CL but he's a good solid performer and could more than do a job up here anywhere on the left hand side, even covering for KT. When people talk about experience that's the kind of player I think of, played in England for years and been to international tournaments yet still only in their late 20s. I it's going to happen though I hope it happens soon as I wouldn't want him uo here when he's 32 looking for an easy ride and big pay cheque.}

18 Dec 2017 20:59:43
Agreed again Ed. No last pay day pish. If you want to come to us-come just now. And I think he would. The Huns and the Scottish Media would have a field day though! ☘️.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - And stuff being his postman if he moves up here!}

18 Dec 2017 21:04:28
What sort of money do you think it would take to get him to paradise and do you think the club would go for it?

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - He's contracted to West Brom until 2019 with a years option so I reckon it wouldn't be be too expensive considering WBA only paid £1.5/2 million for him. If he was available I don't see why the Club wouldn't be interested if Rodgers wanted him. I'm convinced he signed Hayes because he knew he was Celtic daft so why not McClean - you know a supporter will go that extra mile.
On the other hand it's the EPL and WBA could ask for £10 million and there would be someone down there who would pay it.}

18 Dec 2017 21:45:48
That gave me a chuckle Ed! 😂 If you gave me the options of being (a) James McLeans postman or (b) Neil Lennon's postman or (c) unemployment in Scotland I'd need to take the safe option Ed and stop work. View seems to be sign how tthough albeit with the aforementioned provisos ie no easy last pay day etc. come now.

Agree0 Disagree3

18 Dec 2017 22:26:13
Decent enough player, I would be happy with that.

Agree0 Disagree3

18 Dec 2017 22:43:23
He doesn't strike me as the kean type that just wants to tick it off his bucket list, I reckon if he'd signed 5 years ago he'd have finished his career wae us, he talks like we're the only club he's ever wanted to sign for and I believe every bit of it. Get him in.

19 Dec 2017 01:31:18

I would enjoy Seeing Maclean and McCarthy in the Celtic team that seals 10 in a row.

Agree1 Disagree2

19 Dec 2017 11:36:10
I don't think he has the level of ability we need to move forward. I think the board will be acutely aware of the focus that will be brought on us. It's no secret the board cringe every time the Rebs get sung and this would be a open goal for the press and take the focus off the team.

A song about him being a Provo sniper or some other bullshit would be sung from the first away game and I don't want that.

I know a lot of fans think singing songs the Irish don't even sing at internationals is an announcement of our love for the 'cause'. I don't.

I just don't see why the Irish can let it go, but we can't. It gives equivalency to the bile from the Huns. I have said before, if you have a political position then pursue it. But, do it more than just an away day wind up.

Singing of a willingness to fill a holster, yet unwilling to turn out for a republican March tells me everything I need to know about their commitment.

Mclean is a big no for me. He isn't good enough and the baggage he would bring, ensures he will never play for us.

A non starter. You need to ask yourself.

Why would a board, who continually ask the away support to cut out songs about the Provos, sign a player who would add fuel to that fire?

It isn't going to happen. I never got the let's noise up the Huns argument. If they want to act with a foot in 1690 let them. Especially when that support goes no further than belting out a set of tunes

As Billy Bragg said in a song about the country in the Thatcher era. Wearing badges is not enough. Neither is singing songs at a fitba game.

Agree6 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - F**k Billy Bragg! You do know he voluntarily signed up for the British Army under Thatcher don't you? What badges was he hiding behind then?
Most people have spoke about McClean's ability yet you choose to put more importance on his political beliefs which says a lot more about you than him, is it OK with you to have Bitton at the Club? Who are you worried about upsetting, TRIFC and the media? Who are they to judge anyone? If you want to keep politics out of football why are you concentrating on it here?
Have you ever been in a pub with Ireland supporters, I think you might get a surprise with the songs they sing, it's the same ones the Irish team have played on the team bus for years, ask Matt Holland about it.
I'd sign McClean just to piss off all the panty wetters in our own support and get The Wolfe Tones back playing at Celtic Park when we announce it.}

19 Dec 2017 12:13:30
I stated he isn't good enough as a player. As for the political aspect are you denying the future that would cause? Are you suggesting we might come out if it looking good?

Ok you don't care about that. You and your dry pants can cope with that. Fine.

The fact is this love of the cause is tainted by the fact they don't turn out for marches. Whose pants are wet there?

What's their problem? Ok to sing the songs with gusto yet not enough to march?

As for Bitton? I won't blame a player for the actions of the country they come from. How moronic would that be?

I don't have a problem with Mcleans political
stand. That took balls. Singing about the Ra at away games only requires you know the song. It's on a par with thoughts and prayers when a disaster hits.

Fecking useless and hollow.

You seem to want us stuck in the 70's. A lot of us don't. Especially when all these hard core rebs are like snow aff a dyke when the Republucans March.

That's my problem. They use only Celtic games to show their undying belief in the cause.

I want to hear Celtic songs, of which we have plenty. What's wrong with that?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - What's any of that got to do with James McClean? Absolutely hee-haw and you're trying to use it to have a pop at Celtic fans. How do you know that supporters that sing those songs don't go to marches, how many have you asked? Over the years I've met plenty of people at Celtic games that I met at marches & other Republican events and vice versa, people at marches that sat around about me at Celtic Park or in the pubs around the stadium, I've even been to marches with a few players throughout the years.
Nir Bitton spent two years and eight months serving in the IDF, who's fault is that?
I was only born in 1974 so I have no idea what it was like in the 70's but 40 years later the fans are still singing some of the same songs and I'm delighted people like you have a problem with that, who made you king to tell people what they can and can't do? And again, how do you know 'They use only Celtic games to show their undying belief in the cause.' who have you asked about this, how many people did you ask?}

19 Dec 2017 13:12:19
I see the republican marches. Never more than a couple of hundred. That's where.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Well there you go, probably the Green Brigade.}

18 Dec 2017 19:55:00
I want to say well done to our team for a magnificent run 69 games unbeaten will never be beaten, of that I am certain.
Also well done for the way Brendan handled the defeat, firstly by getting players to form a post match huddle, and tell them "ok, let's begin again" also the way he took the defeat, no moaning just congratulating Levein and the Hearts players. CLASS.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

18 Dec 2017 20:49:11
It’s been coming for a while Tim just ashame it was to the mini Huns. What about your pals claims that Pena Windass and Miller will wipe the floor with us come the 30th?

Agree0 Disagree5

18 Dec 2017 18:12:27
I'm not one of these people who constantly calls for Celtic to spend, spend, spend or break our transfer record just for the sake of it but the reports of Compper coming in for a medical have annoyed me. Since the beginning of last season we've taken in 2 lots of CL money, plus 3 match packages and 2 qualifiers both seasons. Chuck in 100,000 season tickets, the fact the anniversary home kit (no sponsor) sold out for 3 months due to the sheer demand plus the £35 they're wanting for Zenit - I just don't see where the money is going. A £900k fee doesn't bother me, like I said I don't need the club to pay megabucks to be happy but the profile of this guy just screams "cheap option". He's 32, he's warming the bench at Leipzig and he can't play for us in Europe. What is the point? People might say he's better than what we have and would improve us domestically but that goes for plenty of younger defenders who are playing every week at a good level that we could afford if we just showed a bit of ambition. One opinion is that we will go for 2 CB's and that the other will be the big signing but look back to the summer when we could all see we desperately needed at least one CB the only CB we tried to get was Coetzee (again under £1m) . If this guy comes in then I'd love for him to do really well and I'll give him every chance but I feel that IF this is the extent of our defensive recruitment then the board are sticking 2 fingers up to us as the level of investment in the playing staff is hugely disproportionate to the money coming in.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

18 Dec 2017 19:21:01
its the usual penny pinching of the highest order.

Agree9 Disagree2

18 Dec 2017 22:53:15
I don't think we need to spend big money in order to get a great player as I can remember The Rangers spending big money and some of it was spent on shoite whilst one of our greatest players didn't even cost 1 million. I know his age goes against the policy of buying cheap and developing for a profit but who knows playing for the Celts under BR he might turn out to be a revelation. What age was Lubo when he came to us? In any case if he turns out to be no better than what we have we won't have lost a lot.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Dec 2017 00:19:59
Sorry donjim but I’m not buying the Larsson and Lubo examples. Both were absolute exceptions to the rule. The fact is we must have more than enough money to spend a reasonable amount on at least one right good CB on the right side of 30. Nothing crazy, perhaps £4-6M on a proven quality CB who would not only show that quality with his own performances but benefit Jozo, Boyata and Ajer. I’d much rather a guy like that who would be a big surprise if he didn’t live up to expectations than get a guy who won’t have lost us too much money if he doesn’t maybe turn out to be a revelation under BR.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 09:31:42
I mean is there a chance that he is being signed mainly as back up cover for LB as well as extra CB option.

I had a conversation with someone recently of who we could get that would come to Celtic knowing full well they would be sat behind KT nearly every week!? If that was the case you would have to say it could potentially be a decent signing. If as ED mentioned big Caulker follows him then I'd be pretty happy with that.

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 11:51:54
Bang on Kev. We kept hearing about how we want to be seen as a CL team. Things have gone quiet in that front this year, this signing looks like a stop gap. Not an ambition to improve in the bear pit of the CL.

We have made plenty of money, yet that team, that is going bust again yesterday actually spent more than us.

I am old enough to remember the instinctive reluctance of successive boards to invest when we are ahead. After Seville still depresses me.

We are in danger of fecking it up in the same, tired, shitebag attitude. We know we can't compete for the best. But by feck, a 33 year old player who is cup tied?

Do me a favour.

If anybody could watch us this year and not know we need a total overhaul in defence and new blood in the midfield, they have got a fecking clue.

I have always thought the only team capable of fecking us up is us. Our dithering and hoping things will work out has failed every time in the past.

I think we will do something better this time, I have to admit that this signing smacks of the cheap short term option.

Imagine that useless defence against Zenit and the absolute reality of getting humiliated home and away. How will that help us get better.

The board better spend it they are guilty of taking the absolute piss out of us all.

Get it done for once Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Dec 2017 21:23:16
Kev, let us see whether Compper does a good or bad job for us before we pass judgement on him and the team management who authorised and recommended his purchase.
I think everyone involved in bringing him to Celtic expect him to be a success .
It is probably much easier to sign a £8 - £ 10m centre half and pay ridiculous wages and then our fans will be happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2017 10:49:41
Chris, I have nothing against him and I hope he is a massive success but there are other players at a much better age out there that I think we could have signed and wouldn't be surprised if we got another.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 17:23:39
TORA! TORA! TORA! I fear we have just awakened an angry giant and filled him with a terrible resolve! Yamamoto Levein you've done it now!

Believable2 Unbelievable4

18 Dec 2017 12:38:20
Yesterday we were beaten which can happen in any game but the manner of our defeat was shocking out fought in every area goalkeeper who thinks he can pass the ball like lubo can't take command of his box and our 2 centre backs were all over the place with our suicide passing from the back midfield were bullied off the ball and forwards very poor except for james forrest.
To go unbeaten for 69 games is a great achievement but to the board and management please do not sit back and think we do not need to spend to keep improving the team because we have been in a strong and dominant position before and not spent any money, when you are in a position of strength get stronger not weaker.

Every once in a while the club needs a reminder that it should not stand still and should be looking to improve, yesterday was that day. I have lost all faith in our ability to defend properly and this area must be addressed as a matter of urgency and i include the GK position in that. I said last week guys like Johnston Miller kouassi and Ajer should be used more regulary to give the team a bit of freshness and this surely must happen now as Hearts were first to every ball yesterday. The unbeaten run has been an incredible achievement and the manager and players deserve massive credit for it, it has taken its toll and i think this last month it has prevented us from making the required changes for fear of losing. I now expect a busier transfer window with both ins and outs.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

18 Dec 2017 12:32:21
The defensive chickens came home to roost big time. They have been clucking things up for a while now, but yesterday? Christ on a bike.

When we are as poor as that defensively and the rest of the team down tools then we are in big trouble.

Every goal was a defensive balls up.

We should have brought in a defence in the summer. The response seems to be a guy budging 33 who can't play in Europe.

Whoppee fecking do.

I know it is the nemesis of our financial model, but by feck do we need to spend money.

Agree0 Disagree2

18 Dec 2017 12:40:59
Bang on magic every goal total balls up all preventable boyata at first jozo and Gordon and I still think if Gordon takes a step to the right before laffable hits it he'll save it.

Agree1 Disagree1

18 Dec 2017 12:52:25
There is nowhere to hide for the board. They have to give Rogers more than a poxy £1m to sort that shambles out. Lustig is now too slow. Boyata is a bombscare. Gordon is a bombscare, Simo needs help and Tierney needs back up.

We also need a class midfielder capable of making things happen and injection real class.

The defence, or total lack of is the gaping wound though.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 14:26:59
Agree the defence is terrible at the minute and maybe the new guy just what we need but most of the oppositions chances come from poor kicking at the wrong time or passing from Gordon.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 14:53:42
I am sure BR can speak up for himself, regarding targets and where we really need to strengthen; however, some of our recent signings like Gamboa, Kouassi, Benyu and Hayes, have hardly featured at all, for one reason or another, while Ajer must be wondering what he has to do to get a regular game, while Hoddit and Doddit continue to falter.
Others like Rogic, Bitton, Ralston (when fit) and De Vries could surely do a job domestically, not to mention Henderson and Eric - who although might be out the door, are still picking up wages until the next transfer window at least?
We have probably relied too heavily on the nucleus of the squad - especially in key positions - and need to redress the balance.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 14:59:30
My opinion of Gordon has changed dramatically this last year I will be happy to see him replaced. I'd even take Boruc or Marshall back for 12-18 months and use that time to find a long term replacement or develop Hazard etc by getting them out on loan for a year.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 16:01:12
Boruc could easily do a job for a year to see how hazard develops. A know a lot of people go on about vorm for spurs but a don't watch epl so no idea if he's good enough. I'd take boruc or Marshall as u say Stan for the simple reason I know they can do better than gordon.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 16:35:56
I'm the same Steph I don't know anything about Vorm other than he has been very unactive. Boruc and Marshall have both been playing regulary and have vast experience. I know they are both in their 30s but either would do a job for us until we find someone long term. At CB would have loved a fit and well Steven Caulker.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So why not just go out and buy someone long term for the GK just now or in the summer? If Rodgers and Lee Congerton don't have one or two GK's in mind it's a ridiculous dereliction of duty.}

18 Dec 2017 17:07:53
If we can find someone able to come in to fill the position long term in January i would be all for it Ed. It's very surprising more don't come through the youth system, have we had any youth player play in competitive games since the 90s other than Marshall or Kerr.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Not as a GK that I can think of.}

18 Dec 2017 17:35:32
We all love big Lustig. The simple fact us he is slowing down and this season his distribution has been gash. I would keep him as back up.

The bottom line is that apart from Tierney they all need replaced. Although I think Simo has potential, but he us prone to injury and a risk as the main guy.

This ya T a reaction to Sunday. This is something all of us have been talking about since last season.

Times up and changes of quality are now essential.

Even our board must know the tin needs to take a tanking.

18 Dec 2017 23:23:28
What about Tim Krul from brighton.

19 Dec 2017 21:34:16
Anyone who thinks everything that was wrong with Celtic was down to defensive woes were not thinking of first two goals that set the stage for 4 nil .
Ist goal quick goal kick to Bogota who panicked when attack came to him . Bogota cleared to K Twho had started to race to other half and then he fell. Ball played into centre 25 yds out and Scot Brown only leaving goals, no challenge. Shot and goal.
Tierney and Brown as much to blame as any .
2nd Goal Bogata ran out and accross pitch who passed to McGregor who fell as the ball reached him . Brown didn't go to defensive area Bogota left and hence the off side Laverty scored off post .
Jojo mistake for 3rd goal stupid but also unfortunate and I have seen so called top c h just as stupid . Stupid mistakes will happen.

18 Dec 2017 09:54:47
Interested to see how we respond to the hammering we got yesterday! I think long term getting the unbeaten monkey off our backs is a good thing – it’s no longer acceptable to draw at home against Killie and St Johnstone to keep the run going!

We need to freshen things up with a few signings in January. Feel like a broken record saying how bad our defence is but Brendan MUST see this as well and address this now or he will regret it! Boyata, Simunovic and Gordon are rank rotten, they make far too many mistakes that continually cost us! Lustig is past it in my opinion as well!

I also think we need to change the way we play in terms of formation tactics and personnel. I think we have become slightly predictable in our build up play! Can we find a way to get Dembele and Griffiths playing together effectively? Should Ajer be a first team starter now? Gamboa /
Kouassi / Hayes get more time?

Brendan and the players have achieved something special that will forever be in our history books! Some amazing memories from the run – smashing the huns 5-1 x2, 4 domestic trophies on the spin, comeback against M’Well!

Lusting is not past it, IMO. He's the Swedish RB, qualified for Russia and who would you replace him with? The defence, as a unit, probably isn't functioning properly, but to say Lustig is past it is OTT. I'm pleased that run has gone now, hopefully we can celebrate it, park it, and move on. It's obvious we're going to strengthen and inject some positivity into the squad. I think folk need to calm down and trust the manager, I think he's earned the right. domestically, at the least! 👍.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Dec 2017 16:22:49
He has been a good servant and not denying he still has something to offer us mainly in terms of his experience. But he lacks pace and is not comfortable enough on the ball to play the way Brendan wants. We need someone who can get forward on the right flank the way KT does on the left side. Might be OTT in your opinion but I have seen plenty people agree we should be looking to improve in this area. Ralston not ready to step up and be a 1st team regular. Gamboa could be the answer but not been given enough time or run of games to prove this.

It was inevitable that we would lose at some point and that the msm and other supporters would have their day.
Nothing they say or do can take the record away from us and we are still on course to sweep the home trophies back into our cabinet.
We have had too many positives to let this one defeat in 69 games get us too down.
Anyway, let them enjoy it while they can, poor wee souls.
