I see Delia in all today's papers talking about permanent signings in January but surely the biggest prospect Martin Oldegaard has slipped through our figures as now the big european clubs are well aware of his talent.
But Delia knew all about him and even is friends with his father, so why did Ronnie not bring him with him when he joined Celtic, before all the bigger clubs were aware of him.
Sorry to me this is another example of Delia not being 100% committed to Celtic Football Club.

{Ed007's Note - Every major club in Europe has been aware of Odegaard for a few years now, he had a trial at Man Utd in summer 2013, he has invites on the table from Bayern Munich, Stuggart, Man City, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madird, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, PSG, and Juventus. His father recently said:

'We can’t visit all the clubs that have been in contact. We don’t have a plan, we just want him to develop. That’s been the focus over the years. If you start to think about other things his evolution could halt. He’s only 15-years-old, and there’s no way he could go away alone. We are more than happy to see him develop at Stromsgodet.'

You're grasping at straws here Tim and just looking for anything to blame on Deila. Do you think it would be just a case of RD telling him to pack his bags and move to Glasgow, don't Stromsgodset get a say in what happens with their players? On June the 10th (4 months ago) Stromsgodset's manager, RD's ex-assistant, David Nielsen said

'If Ronny wants to come and take players to Celtic he has to go through me first! He has to get lots of that sterling out! I don’t think Celtic can buy a player of that price calibre, if I speak honestly. Some of our players may be available but our gem Martin is out of his league financially, with Martin the price would be way out of reach. He’s going to be a Barcelona player, we’re preparing him for Barcelona because he’s that good.'

So tell us Tim, what should RD have done?}

Tim, it appears you don't think very highly of Deila . I am sure you would have many better replacements awaiting .
Personnally I am not happy with Deila so far, but I think we need to keep him to about this time next year to be sure we have given him a decent chance .

ED007 I think Delia, having good working knowledge of the boy and apparently a good relationship with his father, could have set up a deal to bring him to Celtic.
He could have promised the Norwegians a fair transfer fee £2m+ a healthy sell on fee, say 20%, a promise of Celtic youngsters going on loan to them, one player that springs to mind is Fridjonsen if Celtic still do not want himback and even a couple of pre season friendlies in Norway to help their bank balance.
He chose to do nothing which in my eyes is very poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The simple answer to that is that RD doesn't have the power or the authority to do any of that. Stromsgodset say we can't afford the player yet you're valuing him at the same amount we paid them for Stefan Johansen. Basically there's nothing RD could have done but at least you're happy enough twisting it into something else you can blame him for and moan about.
Come on Tim, you're better than this mate. Moan about the team, the tactics or results but all your're doing here is looking for anything you can possibly link to RD so that you can attack him over it. Stromsogodset would probably report us to UEFA for an illegal approach to a youth player by speaking to his father, remember this kid is 15 and is not treated or viewed the same way as older players are. We have no idea what is in the youngsters current youth contract, we could end up in the middle of another Paul Pogba situation.

- A player can only sign a professional contract when he is 15 years old or older; it has to be co-signed by his parents or custodians;

-A player who is 18 years old or younger can only sign a contract for a maximum of 3 years.

His father has already said: 'He’s only 15-years-old, and there’s no way he could go away alone. We are more than happy to see him develop at Stromsgodet.'

So how do you know his family would even agree to him moving, maybe none of them want to move abroad so they are happy to see him stay in Norway until he is old enough to move abroad by himself, maybe like James McCarthy he'll be a better player for playing games rather than be stuck in some development or youth team, so him and his family want to stay at Stromsogodset to play in matches. What wuld the CFC supports reaction be if we played a 15/16 year old in the first team and he made a few mistakes or God forbid we drew/lost, would you be on here backing RD's decision to play the lad? I think we both know the answer to that.
You're not thick, Timbo, I know by what you've said in the past you understand enough about the way transfers work to know you're idea would and could never happen. What wiyld Pedro and John Park's reaction if RD came in and said he had negotiated a deal involving sell on fees, playing pre-season matches and loaning out players he had not even seen in training yet - remember they never even let him choose his won assistant! There's a world of difference between what you think should have happened and what would have been allowed to happen, and none of that is RD's fault, blame UEFA and the people running our club.
After the reaction to Islam Feruz and how we felt about it after everything TB done for him and his family we now want young players to do it to other clubs for our benefit, has our standards really dropped that low?}

The bhoys dad wants him to complete his education in Norway as well I'm more annoyed with our club not signing May and Robertson along with Armstrong we need more Scottish talent! But I blame the board not the manager! We've just got our skipper back so Ronny had started his career at CP a limb down without broony!

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris this time next year is too long, ronny has put himself in the firing line with far too many poor performances I think a fairer timescale would be Christmas to see if we can progress in Europe and get a decent level of consistency in results and performances. if he can do that then he will have bought the rest of the season for me if he hasn't then he has to be moved on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic have never sacked a manager after such a short time. Deila was employed in the first place because of his plans to restructure the Celtic team training methods and style of play with emphasis on youth . Not giving Deila a decent time span of a season plus will mean we will never know if Deila's methods work.

Agree1 Disagree0

That sounds like the board actively went looking for Ronny to revolutionise the set up Chris, when in fact we know he was last on a long list of knock backs for the job. All the brilliant young progressive thinking manager statements from the board about signing Ronny was propaganda aimed at appeasing fans. I agree about Christmas. If there is not good signs of progress by then then we could be stuck with him next season. I hope he starts to pull things together, and the board helps him in doing that. Markie

I'm afraid Tim those posts are up there with your one about woman's football especially celtic ladies! Why on earh would RD not be committed to celtic? Do you honestly think he wants to fail?
Personally I thnk the players are as much if not most to blame for what's happening on the park. Remember these same players destroyed Dundee utd with a fast moving, quick passing game. What you need to ask is why they don't do it in every game.

Agree1 Disagree0

I am not sure Ronnie was at the end of a big long list and only took the job after everyone else refused . Keane claimed he had been offered the job, but my problem with Keane is that he tells a good story whether it is true or not only God knows .
I am happy with what I saw today, keep it up 3 men in midfield makes us solid .

Pleased to hear RD saying he wants to make permanent transfers in January and not just loans (hopefully some sort of deal for Guidetti will be one of them). Then again we've been fed BS off our puppet manager before regarding stuff like this. Would be nice to see RD come out and say it's a player he wants. So far I'd hazard to say Berget is the only signing RD actually brought up (not that that's a good track record!).

Jim a think he does genuinely hate loan signings but let's be honest our board never backed him with any decent funds and it probably got to the point were a few loans were his only optiion to get a few players in he was in a no win situation if he didn't get anyone in people would have moaned and cause it's mostly loans people have still moaned cause he sayed he wouldn't make loan signings

Think the whole RD debate is getting stale now. It's all we talk about. Everything is his fault but we all know that is not correct but it's good to blame someone. We know he was not first choice? Was he 3rd choice behind Kean and Larsson or was he 4th, 5th or 6th? It is being touted around that we wanted him because he was progressive and had new ideas. The fact of the matter is he was not really wanted at all but was best of what was left. The Board wanted others but others would not come or their demands were too high. That's fact. RD did a job in Norway with an unfashionable team. Look what Alex Neil is doing at Hamilton? Don't see anything printed about diet, loan signings, style of play. Let's say Hamilton did win the SPL , would we be banging down Lawells door demanding him as the next Celtic manager? I don't think so. So just because you have a great season does not mean you are the Messia. All that matters now is closing the gap in the SPL and making sure we win it in order to get an opportunity in CL next year. If we are in contact with the top of the table in January he will see the season out. If it gets to a 12 point gap he will be gone and quite right as well. Till then we have choice number 3 plus? That's how it is so let's just get on with it, go to the games and see what happens.

You on the right thread johnnymac? don't see any blame here. If talking about our managers comments on a football forum is stale then sorry, but don't add fuel to a fire by starting a debate or whatever it is you're doing.

Jim the point is what else is there to say about RD? He is in charge. You either like it or lump it. I am no RD fan at all, but it's all been said. It's only about the results now. Interesting thing today apart fro Gordon only 2 new signings started and 1 (wekaso) on subs bench, very much same team as last season. What does that tell us about what we signed over the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Bar Guidetti we signed absolute rubbish (Denayer is a good young cb but got no chance with him). Too many loan signings (tends to be a reason people are available on loan). Hence why I said it was pleasing what RD has said. Problem is which transfers were actually his?

Gordon - definitely not.
Scepovic - hearing RD say he'd only been SHOWN footage suggests not.
Guidetti and Tonev - Seeing as we've been in for them before I would say not.
That leaves Berget and maybes Wakaso (maybe).
