Absolutely delighted with the news that Rogic has signed on for 5 more years. A fantastic sign of commitment by the player and the club.

I think it's very difficult to put into context how important a signing this is from a morale boosting and financial perspective.

A proven player, who knows the club, clearly loves being part of the Celtic family and is an integral part with arguably a bigger role yet to play.

What price would we have faced attempting to source a replacement and one who could fit in to the team with absolutely no guarantee it would work (Mussonda springs to mind)

I believe this is BR sorting the existing squad quickly before adding another few gems to drive us on to more success.

Exciting times bhoys.

Ian not Rogic's greatest fan, however I am delighted that we have signed him up for five years . It shows to me that Celtic now seem to be able to stand up to all but the very rich clubs . Signing Rogic and Ajer augurs well for ability to keep good players at Celtic Pk . It's hard enough spotting and then persuading them to sign for us without us loosing them after only a couple of years . If we could aim to have a new signing for six yrs or so we could really build a squad.

Over the moon Rogic has signed on. For me one of our best players. Very few can deliver the magic that he can.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 May 2018 23:33:28
I support anyone who wears the hoops but some are just that little bit special and I believe Rogic with his vision and passing is one of those. Absolutely delighted he has been nailed down on a long contract. The future is looking very bright indeed.

I think the only thing that could top big tom signing another 5 years is dembele signing up as well. I think him and edouard playing regularly together could take us to the next level in Europe.
Any thoughts ed on any new contract on offer for him or his chances of being here next season?
I can see a very busy window ahead especially with musonda and Roberts leaving.
Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - All I know is that the Club have made it known that they would like Dembele to sign an extension.}

17 May 2018 22:16:07
That would be wonderful, having Dembele Eduardo and Griffiths fighting fit and ready to start would give Brendan magnificent options.

17 May 2018 22:27:10
We can only hope chris.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 22:42:33
Like the other posters I would be over the moon if Dembele extended his contract.

My fear is if he does not sign an extension before the window closes, then I reckon he will be sold. The reason I say that is if he is allowed to get into the last year of his contract then the transfer fee would be greatly reduced.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's my worry too, RAW. I still think we'd break our incoming fee record but it wouldn't be as much as it could be. Hopefully he feels that he didn't have his best season and feels another season in Scotland (with a wee wage rise and new deal, hopefully CL football and winning some more trophies) would be better for him in the long run.
If not I would maybe take the hit on the money next summer simply because we are more likely to do well in Europe with MD in the team.
Remember if he's still here on the 9th of August we know he isn't going to England.}

18 May 2018 06:35:03
If we could get dembele to sign an extension with a pay rise on it, it would be amazing along with ajer and rogic committing themselves to the club on long deals. Everyone knows dembele will leave eventually but hopefully the boy will also appreciate what Celtic as a club are doing and have done for him in helping him develop that he'll want Celtic to get top whack for him. Him signing a new 3/ 4 year deal doesn't mean he won't leave and he'll know that, what it does is guarantee we get top whack for him. Fingers crossed we can get something done with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 20:41:20
Right Ed this is the part where you make my day (even better than it already is) and tell me there's a chance Armstrong and Moussa will also sign new contracts. Yes? 👍🏻.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The Club would like Dembele to extend his contract but I've not heard of any talks with Armstrong or his agent - that doesn't mean they haven't happened but it was a tough job getting him to sign last year so I wouldn't hold my breath.}

17 May 2018 22:20:16
I imagine that Armstrong would be relatively easy to replace . I don't mean that Armstrong isn't a good midfield player but to me he is a traditional midfielder that is found at most clubs.

Agree0 Disagree2

17 May 2018 22:52:44
Think he is off to Germany?

Agree0 Disagree1

18 May 2018 00:42:28
Thing with Armstrong is he ticks all the mf boxes when he is on form and fit. I'd completely dissagree omc and say he would be a difficult and expensive player to replace. Problem is he has had a few injuries, drops in form or played out of position for a good part of his time with us. His spells fit and played in the middle he has been excellent. If he had been fit this season I'm 100% sure we would of scored more goals as a team. Think of the amount of mins we passed the ball left to right and never carried it forward. My only issue is if he goes for 6m I don't think we will punt 6m on a new cm this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - John McGinn......?

18 May 2018 01:12:10
£6m ed? Never.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No chance.}

18 May 2018 01:18:19
Sorry mate a thought u were touting mcginn at £6m. He's probably worth 4 but as others have said 3 + Allen is about as far as I'd go at this stage.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I just meant as a replacement for Armstrong, reading that back I can see why you thought that.}

Massive credit to PL and the Celtic Board for getting Bain, Ajer and Rogic signed up this week. They are showing their intent early and it will be a massive relief and help to BR getting these deals done early, with Griffiths and possibly Boyata and Edouard to follow i think we are in for a good summer with players leaving and a few quality additions in to help the current squad. Fingers crossed we can get Dembele and Armstrong to extend their deals. Good times ahead at CP.

17 May 2018 20:38:36
Agree with all apart from Boyata Stan. IMO they guy is still a huge bomb scare and a couple of half decent performances will not convince me otherwise. Would like to see him moved on and replaced this summer. Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 20:48:43
A would keep boyata think the last few months he's really settled down.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 May 2018 21:06:03
There's no doubting he has been inconsistent IM, on his day he can be outstanding it's just getting him to a level where he produces every game. Let's not forget when him and Jozo were paired up last season they were great. I don't think the constant changes at the back have helped anyone this season. Boyata has strolled the last few games and if he wants to stay and find a level that we know he is capable of then im all for it. Not saying we don't have to strengthen at the back getting someone in will keep everyone on their toes.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2018 22:55:58
I don't think we will see too many new players. Think Moussa will stay as no takers at the price we want. Edouard will get signed. Armstrong will go so maybe only 2 or 3 will come in? Only my opinion. Rogic deal great news.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 May 2018 01:02:26
Getting that feeling as well Johnny about "new signings". Apart from the extensions we could do something with as little as 3 quality players. There are a few areas I don't think we will spend a bean. Gk, 2cbs (one left footer) and a rb will go a long way to stop us shipping so many goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The season's not even finished yet and you and Johnny are having negative feelings about how many players we'll sign! Really?
It's going to be a long summer.}

Really settled down mally! I must have missed that mate. boyata is a bomb scare and if we want any sort of progress in Europe he’s simply not good enough! He’s obviously been holding out for a team in one of the so called bigger leagues and found out nobody was interested! We need better IMO if we want to move forward!

Just for the sake of conversation let's say dembele does go in the summer and we accept an offer of around £20million. We know how the board works and out of that we'd be lucky to see £10 million out back in the pot and if the board are likely to be generous we may get a £15 million budget including all transfer fees.

Who do wee realistically see as a capable £6million replacement for dembele. For CL competitions?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 May 2018 10:52:11
Never really seen enough of him to be honest, but he came with a big reputation, but couldn't have impressed BR in training to show enough to dislodge any of the current first team midfield - even Sinclair was struggling to get a start these past few weeks.
Looking at the bigger picture, with Roberts, Armstrong and maybe Rogic leaving it would have given him a great opportunity next season to impress and play more regularly, but clearly he wasn't happy and maybe thought he was wasting his time?
However, with Christie and Morgan to come and the likely arrival of more quality in the summer, we can't dwell on failed loans.
Wouldn't put it past Sevco Steve to try and tempt him back to Glasgow with the promise of a guaranteed start and a puppy lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 16:12:28
This is a bit of a shame as he looks an incredibly talented player. A bit lightweight (both his frame and the way in which he protects the ball could be improved though) . He didn't quite look on the same wavelength as the rest of the side. His decision making could also be improved but, even in glimpses, some of his quick passing looked too quick for some of our bhoys! As OaB says, depending on movement out the club, he could have had more playing time at CAM. Particularly in Europe I think we would have seen the best of him. No harm in him being frustrated but for one reason or another the manager has opted not to use him so much. At times we've looked like we could have used a wee spark but being on the verge of a double treble, there can't really be many complaints.

Hi all, was just thinking to myself, it's unbelievable the amount of UCL Qualifiers we have to play, when teams like Burnley, Yes. Burnley! Have access to a European competition for finishing 7th! Yes there is some amazing players in the Premier League, But I think its ruining football massively!

Managers in and out 24/ 7, stadiums with no atmosphere, no real passion and desire from players, it's simply just a job to them! Ryan sessegnon, Fullham player, 17 year old and valued at £22mil upwards! Kieran Tierney has to be upwards of £30mil surely! none of this ''he plays in a pub league'', he has European exposure and plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world for god sake! Wanyama, Larsson, VVD, Forster etc, the arrogance of SOME English football fans is unreal! absolutely nonsensical!

17 May 2018 01:41:10
Brendan its disgusting how backwards Scottish football has went. The route cause of it broadcasting rights. We get £18m yet Denmark gets £63m. There is a far worldwide attraction watching any Celtic or Rangers game than a Bronby or Copenhagen game.

We have developed some world class players over the years, that if our efforts over in Europe recently on a far scale lower budget than major revenue clubs (since 2003) was more respected then who knows where we would be if we got likes of transfer fee (I think £75m) Van Dijk to Liverpool.

We have a consistent track record of producing EPL or above standard players. Getting to stage now where I would be happy taking gamble selling a top player at a bargain price with 50% sell on clause.

The money we get from TV compared to other leagues is disgusting. Outwith ourselves there was a pretty decent fight for 2nd place and all the Euro spots. Getting even an extra £3m per club per season would make a huge difference to the players clubs could take in, and also improvements to their youth set ups, Stadium etc. The SPL needs new leadership and as i said before Barry Hearn has revitalised Snooker and Boxing and has previously said he would love the chance to do the same with Scottish football. Get him in!

17 May 2018 08:48:19
Spot on Brendan. I can’t stand English football any more, I used to watch the games between the top teams but now even they are boring to watch. People in England think players are dying to play there because of their great league, it’s actually due to the obscene wages offered to average players.

Undoubtedly the quality is better than our league but it’s definitely not the best in the world, yet they are paid the most because of good marketing. Sky has been saying for years “it’s the best league in the world”, they invented that title.

I’ve always wondered if instead of players being humble about an upcoming match e. g. “I’m sure it’ll be a tough game” instead players talk about how easy it’s going to be, how they will win 5-0, much more like the build up to a boxing match. Sounds a bit crazy but many people in England watch the Glasgow derby because they expect a feisty affair. Who knows but we need to stop copying the EPL and try something else because it’s not working.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2018 09:25:13
you’re bang on Brendan, all the talk off people saying the premier league is the best league in the world and all the teenagers would agree. Nah I’m 18 and think it’s so boring, I grew up supporting Man Utd thanks to sir Alex and ronaldo but honestly I can’t even be bothered watching them play it’s that boring, and don’t get me started on the managerial appointments it’s a complete joke how many magnets get sacked and get back in a job due to so many bottem end epl teams sacking there managers. yes there are some great players but if the money was in our favour then we would have the best players because we have everting the big clubs don’t.

all the epl have is money . no heart. No passion. no pride. no tradition. No loyalty. no iconic derby.

17 May 2018 11:43:16
To be fair to Burnley they're one of the only proper clubs in that league. They don't spend anywhere near the amount of some of the teams finishing below them and they're not particularly glamorous so you know their fans genuinely love the club and not just a bunch of selfie-taking tourists. It's nonsense that 7th in PL gets Europe but I'd much rather them than one of the "big" clubs like West Ham.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 13:08:23
Stan when did Barry hearn say he would love to revitalise Scottish football? If he did, why is he not in right now? Who makes that call? The only time I've heard him talking about Scottish football was as a guest on CLYDE and I'm pretty sure (not 100%) that he said he wouldn't have time to do anything. That was 1-2 years ago so maybe he's changed his tune.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 14:40:13
Steph this wasn't that long ago maybe last summer. Said we sell ourself short as a product and in general we look to England rather than seeing how we can improve ourselves. He probably isn't involved because we have Doncaster in charge and refuses to go anywhere, infact he now wants to be part of the SFA aswel. Until we have a complete overhaul of the SPL and SFA and have one ruling body run by people we can trust to take our game forward nothing will change. Jobs for the boys/ dinosaurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2018 16:19:24
So who appointed Doncaster? If Barry hearn has said he'll do it then whoever appointed Doncaster has to grow a set n sack him, Barry hearn could sell snow to the Eskimos he would have our league earning treble what it does now.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2018 17:21:52
Totally agree Steph, boxing was on it's knees with the success of MMA just shows you what can be done especially with the deal Matchroom signed in the States this week. Eddie might be the mouthpiece but Barry is still a huge influence. Snooker has never been better and the price money for finishing runners up in a final is remarkable. John Higgins got roughly £180,000 for being runner up 2 weeks ago. When you put that against what an SPL club recieves over an entire season from tv or the income from where they are placed then something is far wrong.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2018 19:52:40
I agree to all the above, i'm not being biased, but we, celtic are leading the way in Scotland! Hi guys, relatively new poster although I have followed banter for a good time before.

Normally I will enjoy reading debates on page but something has really grinded my gears and feel need to post.

Last night whilst working nightshift in my taxi, I was listening to 1215mw (Chris Martin) and he played a Rod Stewart song. Immediately after he referred to him as (quote) "Celtics biggest supporter". Sorry "NO HE IS NOT! "

For a start he used to follow Rangers/ Sevco and there is plenty of photos online of him sporting their away kit in 80s sponsored by McEwans Export. Sickens me at red carpet treatment he receives when he hardly ever attends a game and is effectively a convert.

The "biggest fan" is YOU BHOYS! The fans who might not have same bank balance as Rod, but whose veins bleed our wonderful club. The fans who can attend games and the fans who cant, we all love our club in different ways and support in anyway we can.

Apologies for rant but its my biggest pet hate in life. Defining someone as a super supporter cause they have a bit of wedge behind him. Totally disrespectful to ALL fans who do their bit.
