i've heard different things about the stadium expansion, what is the official line?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2017 23:20:31
IMO there will be no expansion. No need for it at this moment in time. I DO see the argument FOR it, and over a period of maybe 10-15 years it would pay for itself. However apart from the very biggest European nights I don't see the demand. I have seen all the ideas about giving schools free tickets etc and it really does sound great. Don't get me wrong. I would LOVE Paradise to be completed. just don't see it happening anytime soon.

I don't think it will be anytime soon either, last I heard the board had said that it wasn't financialy viable at this time. Maybe McCann had it built with the option of expansion for the eventuality that we would one day play in England or some form of European League. Still, 76000 tims on a CL night would generate an Earth shattering atmosphere.

Weird you guys mention it was at the traffic lights yday with my old man and we were talking about how incredible an atmosphere it would be with that extra tier on top. The hotel is a fantastic idea too. Always amazing to be a Tim. Thank the Lord.

It would be nice to see official plans released by the Club Phil it would create some buzz, No reason to doubt the guy i get my info from and he said the Clubs plans are to make a new South Stand which will have 2 tiers. Bottom tier will be open for SPL games and will be roughly the same capacity as it is now with top tier being opened for CL games or in demand games that will add around 14,000-17,000 seats. Hospitality Suites, new changing rooms etc a priority. Who knows might never happen it's something that has been discussed for many a year. Costs would be huge and don't know what would happen with the red brick as i believe it is listed, Then again i think the old school was, Maybe someone in the know can explain more about that. Ed have you not heard anything concrete about this (excuse the pun) .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No mate, it seems to be all speculation about expanding the South Stand capacity and it is more likely any work will be to bring the stadium up to hosting a UEFA tournament final e.g. expanding the changing rooms and having an enclosed area for teams arrival and a bigger press area.}

18 Jun 2017 11:39:35
Thanks Ed, Seems like the most logical thing to do at the moment with the likes of the Hotel etc being built. Maybe the plans were made up in the event of Celtic playing elsewhere. In saying that 10 years of CL nights would go a long way towards costs. This story is currently giving Paddys are run for it's money.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think we need to expand the capacity, think how empty the stadium would feel with 25- 30,000 empty seats for games we only get 40k at or early cup matches when the crowd is even lower. It would make the stadium look even better overall and would be amazing when it's full and rocking but it would really affect the atmosphere during games where we already struggle to fill the seats we have.
Until Celtic Park is bursting at the seams for most games I don't think extending the capacity is necessary. }

18 Jun 2017 12:03:48
Aye you could be right and I suppose there's plenty work can be done to improve the existing building without spending fortunes. Someone brought up a good point a few weeks back regarding the restricted views i'd like to see the club try to improve that if possible.

18 Jun 2017 16:09:50
Last season it looked like it was packed out most weeks. 52,000 season tickets sold this season so not a lot of spare tickets for non season ticket holders. How many tickets go on sale to Celtic fans each week?

Ed OO7, Saw u mentioning Sviatchenko might be leaving this window. Any idea why he hasn't got more game time under BR? Is it simply that the manager doesn't fancy him? I personally think he is a smashin' player. Would be sorry to see him go.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers prefers Boyata over Sviatchenko and maybe part of that is that the manager feels Sviatchenko isn't committed to the long term here. If we had enough cover he'd probably have left in January, he seems to get itchy feet when a transfer window is open.}

17 Jun 2017 15:15:34
I heard it was to do his lack of pace.

Agree1 Disagree10

17 Jun 2017 15:29:34
Have to say I've preferred the idea of Boyata in Jozo for a while. And if we're signing a highly rated young CB then, looking forward, those three would make up the first choice pairing and first choice sub for me.

17 Jun 2017 15:57:18
When he has played this season his passing has been awful and he gets caught in possession. Reports in January Leicester were prepared to pay £5m for him i'd be over the moon if we got that amount.

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Jun 2017 16:42:49
Wat did we pay for him, £2.5Mish?

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 16:19:36
Ed do you know of any rumours that we have 2 deals done and 1 being a German centre Half?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No mate.}

17 Jun 2017 23:38:12
CB

A bit strange that we would have signed players and not announced them but announced Hayes.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 23:56:23
Cheers Ed and I totally agree mate but it was just the person telling me is normally reliable otherwise I'd have laughed it off mate. Plenty of time for the right signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Just because I've not heard anything doesn't mean it's not true.}

17 Jun 2017 13:20:36
Ed, Any idea what the asking price is for PR. Conflicting reports every day. One minute he's in talks with Nice the next say he's going to the States with Man City. If there is a set price somewhere in £8m-£12m bracket do you think we would be prepared to pay that amount. I believe he is worth every penny, It's big cash for us to spend but peanuts down south really. Would be good to get this out of the way one way or another I would see him as our best signing in decades but if it's not to be we need to look at alternatives and wish the lad every success in his career.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know how much City want mate but there's no way we'd pay the kind of money you've mentioned, maybe £7/8 at a real push if Rodgers thinks it's value for money looking at the overall squad, I still expect Roberts to leave City and Celtic have asked City to keep them in the loop.}

17 Jun 2017 14:25:49
Thanks Ed glad to hear it. Man City will have their own plans for the season ahead so you would think a decision will be made soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've got a feeling this could go on for a while.}

17 Jun 2017 14:52:21
Time Keiran put his foot down.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 15:33:28
I'd pay 8m. Our current transfer record has been a while now and about time it was broken. But not just for the sake of doing so. I think PR would pay for himself. He's capable of unlocking defences, certainly at CL qualifying level. He lights up games and domestically could run amok for years, and that also is worth paying for.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 16:09:03
I'd be happy for Celtic to pay £8m it would be money well spent. When you see the amounts being spent elsewhere on mediocre players spending that on Paddy would be a bargain. Tried and trusted and value for money in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 16:18:02
Stan everyone wants to go eventually to the EPL. Paddy is no different. He us not coming back. Firstlysome club are going to offer £10mill plus for him so we won't match that and i would rather spend £10mill on 2 decent players anyway. He will get at least double his wages if he stays in prem compared to Celtic so unfortunetly he is gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 16:53:09
Remember £8 million for Rovers is just a made - up figure . Maybe a grain of truth in it but more than likely pure total nonsense.

Agree0 Disagree3

17 Jun 2017 17:04:01
Johnny, Paddy might decide that being at Celtic and playing every week is better for his development and maybe the boy is not driven by money. Until something official is said by either Paddy, Man City or Celtic i will keep hoping he returns. We should be getting 2 players that would better the team regardless of the Paddy situation. Why £10m though Dembele and Sinclair were less than 5m combined.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 21:39:39
This Patrick Robert's situation is getting boring take the 8 million or whatever and go buy two players of similar quality from Holland or Belgium and let that be the end of it.

17 Jun 2017 21:39:45
When are people just going to accept that paddy was here done well and now wants to move on no different to Virgil or victor we are and always will be a ssepppng stone just accept and enjoy good players when there here.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2017 22:07:59
Oh right Paddy had said he wants to move on, I missed that one.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Jun 2017 00:22:07
Yes Stan he has Said he wants to move on! He said when he finished the season with us he wanted to give it a go at Man City! Now If that happens or not I don't know, but if not some mediocre EPL team will slap in an Offer that's peanuts to them but we simply can't match! Both in terms of fee and wages! Loved the wee man when he was here but we need to move on to other targets now!

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jun 2017 07:22:24
Thats the thing no one knows if Man City wamt him or what they value him at. If Man City want £8m for him an EPL team ain't going to bid more than that and why would Man City want to sell to a rival. We are linked with a 19 year old defender and have bid nearly £5m yet some people think we won't bid £8m for someone who has been here and done it. What will be will be if its not to be and that's official then agreed its time to look at other options.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2017 10:44:51
That's the thing but Stan, the teams that will bid for him in the EPL won't be seen as a rival to Man City. they'll be some mid to bottom table diddy team with money to burn. i hope I'm wrong mate and he signs for us, nothing would make me or any of us happier! Just feel with the CL qualifiers coming around quickly and we can't hang about.

18 Jun 2017 11:43:11
Agree with that Lh86 time is moving fast so i'm sure BR will want to move onto other targets.

Afternoon Ed, hope the weathers as good for you bhoys as it is down here, Quick question if you have the time bud, do you know of alternatives to paddy that we are looking at? just seen that mooy boy go for 10 mill so can't see us getting him back tbh, which is a shame, really loved watching him last season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Sorry mate I don't know of any alternatives to Roberts that we've lined up.}
