On Wednesday we will keep it tighter at the back because we know it is a better opposition than inverness, but malmo are not a better team than Salzburg, they were lucky to beat Salzburg, I think they scored three out of four chances and Salzburg missed about 24 chances in the second leg, it will be a tough game and I will proberly be happy with another 1-0 win but I am confident we can go through then sign a couple of players in the last week of the transfer window, hail hail

We have started the games really well this season I just hope we do so and take our chances. A quick 3-0 lead will force them into attacking but that's probably wishful thinking

I'm concerned about where the goals are going to come from on Wednesday? We've had to rely on our CB to open the scoring in both our opening European ties so far this season. Griffiths for me isn't up to it against these sides, Johansen isn't lethal enough, GMS isn't a goal-scorer at this level as was shown with the many one on ones he's missed(Inter twice, Starjan), don't trust Armstrong to be lethal enough and Cifcti isn't really proven yet but I don't really trust the guy to rely on for goals either. It's concerning.

Add to that big Boyata is a bombscare I'm extremely worried about Wednesday night.

Give it a rest Bhoys, we will win easily on Wed night, I am super confident of giving them a beating. Can't wait for it and the atmosphere will be electric. Keep the Faith as we have always done. Hail Hail

I really hope the hooper rumours aren't true he was great for us but let's be honest if he can't get into a team with cameron Jerome as the main striker then surely we're aiming too low and imo leigh griffiths is a better striker (now at least anyway)

True Birminghambhoy , how could Hooper be any use to us in Europe if he wasn't deemed good enough to play in the Championship last season

Spanish season not yet officially started but my favoutite Barcelona bet has already paid dividends twice, so going for a hat trick tonight in the Spanish Super Cup, as Barca are 4 goals down my first bet is over 3.5 goals at around Evens, a 5-0 home win is 18/1 (enhanced price) Messi and Suarez both to score is 13/8, a penalty is 2/1, a Barcelona penalty is 7/2 and a Bilbao penalty is 7/1 (this came up on Friday) BTTS is 8/11 and Bilbao most bookings is 1/2 I am doing all individual bets on these and expect at least 3 to pay out (famous last words but I am that confident)

Ach another sceptic Greenandwhiteknight, get in touch with Sacktheboard and form a club lol
As for my bets as I said and others on the football betting site also, I have won a wee bit just with these bets over last week, if the penalty bet come in alone the bet is well in profit, and if anyof the others come in a bigger profit ensues, nobody is making you do these bets, but I hope if I make a buck, some others on here do so also.
PS be daring risk a fiver on 5 x£1 individual bets and see if you make a wee profit.

17 Aug 2015 19:07:52
Sorry Greenandwhiteknight, forgot to answer your original question, forgive me I am fallible No, I never had the 4-0 result (but got the 7/1 Bilbao penalty, the over 2.5 goals at Evens, any team penalty at 5/2) so still made a profit lol

@ Greenandwhiteknight I accept your challenge, will do some research and try and find some decent football bets (my horseracing ones are rubbish even I do not bet on them lol)
Also check out the Football Rumours Bets pages on a Saturday as the Editor on ther ED046 usually puts up some good footie bets from across europe.
Nobody seems to believe that I am actually ahead of the bookies, if I knew how to post my bookie slips on here I would but alas I am a technophobe.

I said Michu not Miku!

Just a thought on our striking woes. Michu is available and Swansea are keen to offload him with a year left on his current deal.

His 45k would be a good calculated gamble as we wouldn't need to pay a fee as we could take him on loan and cover the final year of his deal.

This deal would cost us 2m which could be covered by selling stokes and getting his wages off the books as well as some more of the deadwood. We will sign a striker and pay him so like scepovic that deal could cost us 5m over 3 or 4 years if you add fee and wages.

We could sell the CL to him as a shop window as he could do well for himself on a bosman next summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

17 Aug 2015 16:54:30
Aah AndyThomBhoy, where do I start? £45k a week, Celtic will NOT pay anywhere near that, please go over to the dark side's pages and read the other deluded poster on there who thinks Sevco will buy him

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 20:08:04
Timalloy, you hardly started never mind finished! I have no interest in the sevco pages - bar maybe a cheeky quip about Scott Allan - and tend to agree with Ed that people should move on and why not focus on our club.

Anyway, my point is essentially whether it is Michu or Miku and 4 other duffers Celtic are paying those wages - albeit in batches. We will spend on scepovic and another striker potentially 5 to 10 million on strikers and not make any impact on our starting 11. We shop too regularly in a market where spending 2 -3 m adds very little compared to 500k. Pukki and Scepovic compared to LG a perfect very recent e example. My point is abut wasting money on what we don't need. If that is the core strategy then I'd rather sell the deadwood not reinvest and then they can bring more off the season book price.

On sevco, they spent a disgusting amount of money when there was no need - being full time would have got them out of the bottom tier alone.

Again, we have exhausted our current strategy. If you think a high earner would distrust morale then that is a possible discussion point.

How would Scott Brown or anyone else in the team feel that someone walks in with about double their wages?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 23:23:54
Andythombhoy good post, I've thought the same for a while now, I'm sick of this 2 million pound striker market would rather not bother and just give a youngster a chance (cheap option) or give a proven loan striker 40 grand a week over a season (2 million) .As for upsetting players already here , if they were worth 40 or 50 grand a week they wouldn't be playing here they would be in one of the cash rich leagues

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 09:12:35
I think Brown would accept someone on more money as if he was focused on cash he would have moved elsewhere before now. Down south there is a perfect storm of desperation and disposable revenue that will be x5 from next year so that leads to players who are not good enough for us being paid more than double our highest earner - remember our jimmy Bullard punt?

Brown is on 25kish and has been since he arrived so he has done very well and he deserves to. We will look after him with a deal that will run beyond his worth to the team so his payoff will be when he is coming to the end of his career and will still be on good Celtic money.

Another way round envy would be to offer incentivized packages for progress.

Our main problem is we can't exploit the SA market like the Portuguese so we will struggle get a quality striker who needs games and time to progress. I am actually really happy with our current starters but we need a bit of quality up top to bring that bit extra out of everyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 22:12:05
I think our wage structure has Scot Brown our highest paid player.
Problems would certainly arise if we bought in a player who hadn't yet proved himself at Celtic and made him our highest paid player by some distance .
Raising Brown's pay above this new player would probably result in nearly every first team player getting a pay rise .
The board would be very unpopular if this happened .

City close to signing Otamendi meaning denayer will be further down the pecking order. If we get to the CL you'd think him and city would think another year on loan at us would be a good idea. They must be impressed with how much he developed last season

Believable0 Unbelievable4

17 Aug 2015 18:50:37
We have no idea how well City have been impressed with Deayer's development in the season with us . He didn't develop enough to get on City's first team , but we don't know whether that was a realistic target

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 19:12:27
Denayer getting into citys first team was never realistic he'll waste on the bench for years to come

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Aug 2015 19:51:37
Denayer was a stand-out in the SPL but has a way to go to attain the level of Man City quality as they can buy almost any player on the planet.
We have shown some defensive lapses in our last two games that may indicate how much both parties could benefit from another season, although the signing of Boyater would suggest the player or clubs have possibly ruled out that option?

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 19:38:00
Considering he is now a Belguim cap, signed 5 year deal recently and is highly regarded by Pellegrini, another bs statement from birminghambhoy

17 Aug 2015 22:38:48
Celtic Quick News saying he might be on his way back to us, Its on Newsnow Celtic. That must be the major signing they was mentioning so yeah he will be down the pecking order. Would love it but wasn't Lyon interested?

Did any of youz bhoys and ghirls see Vossen in action for Burnley on Saturday, he was absolute crap. Thank God PL didn't give into all youz who were slagging him aff for not getting Vossan. No first touch and no goals. I also think people are underestimating the number of fans who would love to see Garry Hooper return to the fold. Hail Hail Bhoys and Ghirls

17 Aug 2015 15:28:53
TamTimTic1 mate i'm the same. Always been of the belief we can get a far better striker for same money. The one we have missed out on big time is Michiel Kramer. Scored on his debut for Feyenoord.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Aug 2015 17:12:04
DN30 Kramer would have been fantastic for us. We need RD to sometimes play with 2 CF up front then if the Hooper thing came off he would be a good signing for a loan deal as he already knows what we are all about. The trouble is we still don't have anyone who can play the the lone role and that should be a priority as it is RD's favoured system. Hail Hail

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 18:53:22
We know what Hooper could do a couple of years ago , however after a couple of years with very little game time, we have no idea how he would perform if he returned.

17 Aug 2015 19:52:50
Vossen hardly got a mention (or a touch) and I am sure there are better options elsewhere.

17 Aug 2015 12:34:48
Ed do u know what sort of wages Michu is on at swansea it seems they can't give him away and if we could afford his wages he'd bang the goals in for us

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - He's on around £30/35k a week plus high appearance + scoring bonus.}

17 Aug 2015 10:37:26
Any truth in this hooper thing ED? Would love to see the wee man back! Don't think we've ever replaced him.if not him I hope they've got someone else in mind! Still think we're lacking upfront!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - We replaced him with LG and a 2 year older and 5 stone heavier Hooper would be another awful signing - but we're getting used to them now I suppose.
This is as bad an idea as bringing McGeady back, can you imagine going into the CL or even the EL with LG, Ciftci and Hooper as our strikers? The 'no goals scored in the CL' bet would probably be odds on.}

17 Aug 2015 15:22:47
Hi,Ed.Totally agree with you on the Hooper thing,it would take him too long to reach RD standard of fitness, also I'm not a fan of players returning, very very few are as good 2nd time around

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 20:01:47
Hooper has been and gone and we should look forward - not back I have my doubts about Ciftci from what I've seen so far and Scepovic, Stokes and Boerighter seem surplus to requirement so there is no doubt we need another goal scorer and although I think Griffiths has done a great job ( proving me wrong), I maintain he is not a poacher and does a lot of his work outside the box and in wide areas and we need a penalty box striker - like all good Celtic sides have had.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 21:00:27
Some players are never lucky enough to get a chance of playing for Celtic .
Hooper got the opportunity to play but decided after a couple of years he was too good for Celtic .
Why should Celtic take him back as he hasn't achieved anything in football over the past couple of years .

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2015 11:31:17
The Laptop Loyal (Waddell, Jackson etc) are seething about young Allan choosing Celtic. They are writing cringeworthy drivel which which just reeks of rage and bad feeling.
Never the less Celtic fans will be right behind the lad and give him full support. You made the right decision son, so just show us all what you can do, and you will win many trophies with Celtic.

It makes me happy that these tools are hurting. Absolutely love it. Don't know if you seen the Gordon smith comments going around Twitter yesterday but they are classic,,,,, basically saying a week ago that SA was a top class player who was outstanding and creative. Now he is saying that he's not good enough because he failed at west brom. Also said he won't cut it in Europe and Celtic fans will turn on him! Bitter much?

Sevco and the main stream media seemed to have arranged for Allen to sign for Rangers , just because they wanted him to . Quite right Allan's manager didn't want to sell him to their main rivals for a pittance . It just isn't done in football , you don't sell to your main rivals . now according to Rangers faithful, fans and media Celtic are evil monsters and Allan is now no good .

The more I hear of all the Malmo players and their coach boasting, the better I feel. I hope Delia or any of our players do not respond, but keep our reply for ON the pitch on wednesday. If Malmo come to Celtic park overconfident it will work in our favour. COYBIG

Believable2 Unbelievable1

It seems like Malmø fears you more than you do them, and the fact that you still havnt lost a game makes Celtic flying high on confidence. don't see any other result than Celtic to Champions League. The fact that Malmø now also are contenders for the league title makes it even better!

Celtic have yet to concede a goal in four European ties against Swedish opposition .
If Celtic spring out of the traps on Wednesday as they did on Saturday we will be well on the road to qualification .
We won't become slack and make mistakes at the back like we did on Saturday . We will be in the correct frame of mind for playing 90 mins in Europe .

Mentioned last week about an article I read regarding hooper where he really praises the club and that it was his most enjoyable period of playing. Now reading today we enquired about him for a season long loan. Question being , how would u feel if he comes back? Good as he's a natural goal scorer and someone who would take a lot more chances that we create or disappointed as it means that would probably be the only other forward we sign this season while everyone was hoping for a " bigger name" and something different

Believable0 Unbelievable2

17 Aug 2015 09:55:44
IMO he's too lazy for RD's system. But there's no doubt he'd rattle in the goals again if he came back.

17 Aug 2015 10:11:50
If Hooper was to return along with another striker I would be satisfied with that. However if PL thinks that bringing Hooper back on his own will satisfy the fans then I think he will have underestimated the majority of fans who are looking for a quality impact forward and one who is not a work in progress.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Aug 2015 10:27:52
Why would anyone want him back when it's clear Ronny only plays with one striker. Hooper can't play that role. Anyway he had his time, good luck to him but move on to something hopefully better for us.
