Benitez agrees new 2 year contract with Newcastle after meeting with Mike Ashley in a London today.

{Ed007's Note - We had thumbs downs but it all got very childish.}

I reckon I would have been suicidal this week ed if there was a thumbs down button after you airing my lack of mates that would have finished me 😂😂.

{Ed007's Note - 😁

17 May 2019 11:25:29
removing the thumbs down button was a great move imo. It was abused and as you rightly say, became childish. Some eejits clicked it regardless what the post was so it was really a meaningless option.
To me, if you disagree, then comment.

Massively I would think.

I would not take risks with key players like KT, JF or Sinclair and maybe even keep Broony out as well as he will be especially targeted.
Bain
Ralston Benkovic Ajer Hayes
Burke Cal-Mac Rogic Ntcham Henderson
Eddy or Johnston
:- could still do a job and there's other fringe players available?

Regardless if you want Lenny as manager or not his press conference today was outstanding, every minute of it. One thing is for sure whether it be years ago or now he always sticks up for our club, every inch of it.

What was he saying Stan? I never saw it.

You can watch it on Youtube - Celtic Tv IC. He's backed the players achievements, backed Broony, was asked about Sevco statement and refused to comment said we are above all that we're just busy enjoying the week and looking forward to picking up trophies. 13 mins worth so there's other bits n pieces it's worth a watch.

16 May 2019 22:29:05
watched it and enjoyed it earlier today.
he spoke open and he was right we won the league start showing some gratitude. we had a weird year judas dumping us injuries etc but still, he put the media on the spot and i think he got them off-guard, as they knew he was right HH.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 22:33:02
I enjoyed his interview and I still believe if Lenny gets the job full time, he will lead us to 10 in a row. I had the privilege to be in his company a couple of years ago and he is a character and a half. It was obvious what the club means to him and I feel he has that winning mentality and steel about him to drive the club, to where we want to be in these next 2 years.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2019 22:33:56
He also makes a very good point about the fact that out of the 14 leagues we’ve won since 2000, he’s been involved in ten of them. I think it’s incredible that any Celtic supporter could say that they’d be unhappy with him as the manager. In fact it saddens me.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 23:21:53
One thing I like is that given a transfer window, he likes players to have quality but also have physical ability.

Signed players in this era were like Van Dijk, Wanyama, Hooper, Izzy, Lustig, Ledley etc

Guys who could play but could also be physical.

For me Rodgers era was based on guys being considered great footballers based on the fact they could pass a ball short or backwards.

De Vries was considered a challenge for Gordon cos he could pass, yet couldn't save a shot.

So for me I'd like to see a return to having a bit of physicality in the middle. Whoever the next manager is.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 23:35:31
COYBIG, you are correct, it is very sad.
If another manager was to get the job and has a bad result, the fans would be shouting to give him a chance because he is only new and it takes time but Lenny would get pelters from the same fans, which he doesn't deserve.
My fear would be if Lenny got the job full time, the negativity from some fans towards him, would drag us all down and put unnecessary extra pressure on him and the team and at the same time give sevco hope.
Celtic fans need to be faithful through and through to one of our own Neil Lennon.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2019 04:46:55
His comments about the 90's are spot on! . Many younger fans have been used to us lifting trophy's. For years we won nothing and 🎼Always look on the bright side of life🎵 chant still makes me laugh. No matter who is appointed they will always have my 100% backing. 🍀.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2019 04:08:37
Tesla369 if your going to mention the good why not mention the bad of Lennons reign?

Pukki
Balde
Juarez
Boerighter
Ljungberg

And that's just a few. For every good player Lennon signed I think there was a ratio of 6 bad players to 1 good player.

Your argument is very 1 sided.

Agree3 Disagree0

17 May 2019 07:09:12
I'm not crediting Lennon with directly signing every player in his era as I highly doubt he watched Mexican, Dutch, Israeli football etc all at the same time.

However my point is that with the squad he had, he liked to select a starting 11 with physicality through the middle.

As for signings, we made poor ones before Lennon. Guys like Adam virgo up until guys like de Vries under Rodgers.

As I always say. You go cheap then we will get extremely poor signings regardless of manager. Even if it's mourinho. Just the nature of the policy.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2019 07:53:15
Highlighting the good does not necessarily make an comment one sided. I think we all know that every manager has signings that don’t work out and for that reason, it makes more sense to focus on the successes. Van Dijk and Wanyama are probably two of the most spectacular in the clubs history.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 May 2019 17:10:20
COYBIG your wrong, it is one sided when the poster has a dig at Rodgers signing de vries and fails to mention any good signings he has made such as Dembele.

Tesla369 you still fail to highlight any bad signings Lennon made. He made some absolute howlers, possibly some of the worst signings ever to wear the green and white. Here's another to add to list No Bangura.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 May 2019 17:12:54
COYBIG also focussing on successes is just pampering over the cracks and that attitude is what will send us back the way rather than progress.

Utility player and a half. A real professional. But if he came to Glasgow he’d be on the dark side with his mate Slippy G. I reckon he will stay at Liverpool tbh.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2019 19:42:45
So we are interested in mousset, he has only score a few goals for Bournemouth but his games played 90% of them are from the bench with 20min to go on the occasions he’s started he’s scored I believe, and his scoring form for France u21 is as good as dembele, don’t get me wrong I’d rather a more prolific striker but if this is the man they are targeting I think he will score up here and could be a very good buy the £10m quoted is rubbish I wouldn’t read into that he was bought for around £5m and has sat on the bench mostly so I think a bid of 5-6m would get him in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not football related just a wee change of topic for a laugh makes all this search of a new manager seem menial when you consider that by the time the new league season starts we could be living in a world run by Boris and Donald just think on that 🙈🙈🙈.

Ed - just had a wee look at betting according to PP. Benitez still odds on but I can't see him coming to Scotland. Surely Lennon is a stick on and a quick £ return on a wee stake.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't bet on anyone yet mate.}

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 18:29:21
I hope I lose my money too. But it would be crazy to think Lennon has no chance. If Benitez stays at Newcastle, which he will, then its probably be a fight between Lenny and Moyes for the job. If Lennon wins the cup final then chances are he’d get the nod over Moyes IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 23:15:45
JFP1888 mate genuinely saw odds for Gerry Adams on one of those online betting comparison sites. Couldn't believe it when I saw it and had to Google to check there wasn't a manager with same name lol.

Just read that our captain Broonie has signed a painting of him getting decked by Kent in aid of Cancer Research.
I just wanted to say what a great gesture that is, many players would have taken the huff out of being the subject of such a painting but NOT Broonie.
Also he has been targeted all seasons by several sevco players but never once reacted.
Broonie you are PURE CLASS.

Just read Marcelo Bielsa Wikipedia page, didn't know much about him but what a character, seems to have a lot of respect from players and managers, looks like he really thinks outside the box. Looking at his club record he doesn't seem to hang around for very long, and with two clubs it was arguments with the club over backing for new players so I wonder if this would have a effect on us getting him. Reading it though he literally lives breaths and sleeps football. Ed do you think we would have any chance?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't see why not if he leaves Leeds.}

16 May 2019 11:23:07
Watched that game last night and Leeds were certainly a fast-paced attacking side - and I think we have better players in most areas.
Maybe caught out defensively a bit too much - but as long as we score more than the opposition - right?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 11:45:33
Sorry ED007 Bielsa? I just cannot see what you see in him as a manager, last night his tactics were woeful and defensively Leeds were a shambles.
Then take into account his poor grasp of English and his even poorer knowledge of Celtic and Scottish football and his age 59/ 60 It is a big NO from this Tim.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 12:20:25
Timalloy, he comes across as a manager that lives and breathes football, very well respected and many of his ideas are used by people who wish to follow his advice.

I agree he doesn't tick many boxes for me but he has done ok with Leeds, getting a play off place in the championship. His record before, runner up to Uefa cup in 2011 with Bilbao, winning leagues in Argentina shows he can do well with teams. Bilbao in 2011/ 12 played Man U off the park, can remember watching the passing and movement this was before Man U were s**t.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2019 12:21:10
Tim why do you think knowledge of the league and club is necessary?

Don’t you think that would leave us with a very small pool of candidates most of which will be poorer coaches than the likes of Bielsa, Bilic, Ranieri etc.?

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 12:55:33
I don't think Win Jansen had knowledge of league or vast knowledge club when he stopped them getting 10iar.

Any manager with a good reputation and experience will do their homework on any team before they take the reigns. I honestly believe though the board has made their decision and are holding out till after Cup Final.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 13:18:51
Don't think the knowledge of the league or the club, is that important, but being able to converse easily in English is.

Agree2 Disagree0

16 May 2019 14:02:58
Before he took the Leeds jobs he watched every single one of their games from the previous season. So I'm sure he would do the same with us. Would love him to get the job but won't be holding my breath.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 May 2019 14:36:01
I would suggest 2 reasons he won't come to us
1) Leeds fans love him and want him to stay.
2) £3.7 million a year.

Leeds can push the boat out to chase EPL 100million+ we are chasing cl qualification for 20 million+.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 May 2019 16:26:25
Jim1972 I agree and to add to that when Leeds eventually get back up, I will be surprised if they drop down leagues again or for a good few seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 16:38:48
Can Leeds push the boat out? When I watched the game last night they made a point of saying he hardly spent any money this season .

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2019 10:43:15
A quick question . How many games is that now that rangers have had yellow cards turned in to red after a game . and how many times has this happened in other games through out the league this season . And they are complaining . There being picked on singles out by the officials ect ect . surely the flip side to that is if the refs were doing there jobs right in the first place how many of such game would they of finished the game with the players on the park that they did . So aye they might be getting bans retrospectively after said games but there are gaining advantage in the given game at the time .

Believable4 Unbelievable0

16 May 2019 11:27:43
Mentioned a wee while ago that this seems to be a recurring habit from some referees, who leave the decision to retrospective punishment, rather than penalize them at source - especially at home.
