The problem we will always have while we are in the Scottish league is that those who perform well will undoubtedly be offered considerable riches elsewhere and 9/ 10 will leave at the earliest opportunity. How we protect ourselves against what would seem to be an envitable drop in standard is by having a top management team who can attract and develop talent. In BR we trust.

I'm hearing, probably a whole load of crap though, that it's a lower EPL team offering £45k a week and that Arsenal are going to move for Dembele.

I think another good season in the CL would get him a better move. As I said, might all be the guy who knows a guy stuff. When we start going for a striker we will know Dembele is off.

How much is he on at present? . and should he be on parity with Brown Sinclair or whoever the top earner is.

17 Jul 2017 13:24:13
I read he was earning £10k, albeit I have no idea about the reliability. I personally think he is worth the bump to match the top bracket earners.

I can see why a lot of people are getting annoyed though. I honestly think he would be wise to stay with us for a few more years before heading for the riches elsewhere. I think he could eventually seal a move to a club at a higher level than those being linked with him at the minute, if that's where his aspirations lie.

I can't help feeling he owes us a couple more seasons given the money we paid for him. 6 months of good football in return is selling us short. Saying that, I am sure we will at least treble the transfer fee we paid if we move him on.

What do you think off possibility off a move for DSturridge even loan see how that goes. The boy clearly need's a home.

Spends more time on treatment table than on the park bull.

I can't see him earning £10k currently, we got him for next to nothing, and replacing him will be millions, give him a good deal.

Firstly can I say I hope we sign Roberts but will we?
For me I don't think BR will sign him as if you look at the players he is bringing in who will go straight into the first team they must have pace and power.
This is where he sees our progression in Europe so teams can't run over us.
If you look at Dembelle, Ntcham, Sinclair, Eboue, and even young Benny seems to have that aswell I think Br will go for someone on the right with similar attributes.
Even look at Boyata where he saw something in him and developed that and he brings that to our game even tho before he wudnt get a look in.
Our squad looks not only stronger and bigger (height wise) it looks powerful and pacey certainly for SPFL where we will walk it again I think.
Europe will be harder obv but any improvement on last season will stand us in good stead.
I looking forward to the new season and for me there will be 2 more signings who will be starters in IMHO.

He also said technically gifted and Roberts has that in abundance, second only to lubo. maybe.

16 Jul 2017 20:22:33
All the players you listed are black? I can't se how else roberts is different. He has pace and skill. Along with the ability to ride rough tackles. Power isn't just raw strength
Its speed and agilty too.

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Jul 2017 21:15:20
Sorry guys I meant power and pace as well as ability, I would of thought ability/ technically gifted would be obvious.
Benny don't know where your going mate, what has the colour of their skin got to do with anything?

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 21:59:43
Sorry that might of seemed to be worded wrongly. I mean i don't see how them guys are any different than paddy. They are all different styles of players. Benyu for example would be v similar in build to paddy. Seems like a dribbler. Also eboue woyld be a completely different style again. Similar to scott brown maybe.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 23:05:36
They are different in that when we press teams we have the power and pace to pick them off and to break quick quickly. As good as paddy is his work rate and defensive work not his strong points. Unless we get lucky with him i think BR will just go for a different type of player.

A wee Black Power saying derived from Malcolm X: by any means necessary.

Pat fits the description. Get him signed up.

17 Jul 2017 02:59:00
Yes you do big benny, they are black!

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2017 08:47:27
Augustus as much as i want roberts back, to compare him to lubo is a bit premature, lubo could do it anywhere on the pitch with either foot as you know, if paddy became as good as lubo we wouldn't stand a chance of him signing, Maybe a bit biased as he is my favourite player, but to compare the two just now for me there is no comparison.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jul 2017 09:27:57
Lubo was awesome, agreed there is still work to do but paddy's the closest I've seen since lubo flaunted it in the hoops.

roberts has been named in the man city squad for their tour of america.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jul 2017 21:44:38
That's no surprise . The surprise would be if he was left at home . City have plenty of money and can afford the air fair . However far more important it gives City management a perfect opportunity to fully access Roberts and decide what they want to do with him . Keep him in first team squad, loan him out for season or sell him .
This is exactly what I predicted when he returned to City .
If Roberts is willing to come to Celtic and if Rodgers really wants him, it could happen .

Here is a thought for discussion.
LG tying Celtic scarf to goalpost on away grounds.
Bit of fun or unprofessional and antagonistic and should be stopped?
(my mate reckons he is like a wee dug peeing to mark his territory)

It is cheeky and if Ian Fergusson had done it at us I would have shouted but wouldn't throw a bottle. Brendan may have a word though as taking a bottle to the skull can take the edge aff yer performance.

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 18:39:47
Probably not the smartest move, but it is LG we're talking about. I think the real issue is people throwing glass bottles at him though. Totally unwarranted. Also, if an opponent tied a scarf to a net, I wouldn't be running onto the pitch. Some people are just easily antogonised.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 19:23:34
If Brendan Rodgers did it, it's out of order. If Leigh Griffiths does it its a wind up and he should be slapped on the wrist end of.

16 Jul 2017 19:56:23
I'm a massive LG fan but I do feel he likes playing up to the Celtic supporters and does try to antagonise opposing fans. Time to grow up Griff and concentrate on your football.

16 Jul 2017 21:56:05
LG should not have to put up with stuff getting chucked at him. With emotions running high he may have made his mark in a little way. Don't have a go a our own. It's the Binfield horrible rats that chucked stuff on the park we should be getting stuck in tae them. Mon the Hoops🤢☘️☘️.

Years ago I received a birthday card which read "You're only young once but you can be immature for a lifetime" and perhaps in the scarf tying incident Leigh was a little immature however i don't think it is right to isolate this event from everything that was happening. whilst tying the scarf may be considered provocative (and i think it was) it can't be forgotten that this came after Leigh had been pelted with coins and bottles during the game and after a racist banner of Scott Sinclair was burned on a bonfire on the 11th night. whilst i think Griffiths was wrong to provoke the huns with his scarf tying I can understand his reaction after what happened. however with regards to the bottles coins and burning racist banners these actions can in no way be considered provocative but "CULTURAL"

90% of their fans were gone out of stadium or had their back to pitch as they were leaving . Only section left were the lowest of the low who had earlier tried to remove his head, Griffiths major crime was in front of the 150 Celtic supporters, not at the home - end .
Surely UEFA. Should question lack of stewarding and protection during game .
Why did the PSNI keep their dogs on leads, surely there isn't any point in bringing in dogs and not allowing them to work . 10 minutes of freedom would have resulted in that group of louts never causing trouble again at football.

Must admit, don't know much about Steven Caulker, however he looks a beast, just what we need at the heart of our defence. Not sure how much of a ball player he is, however he must be handy if BR is interested. I do know Liverpool were looking at him not so long ago. I'm liking how our squad is shaping up and Brendan is executing his strategy nicely, just as he declared. Some panicked when Sevco were buying their mass of duds, some of the comments quite ludicrous really, however we have the right people in the right places and we should be patient and trust in them. My season ticket went up by £50 for the forthcoming season. small price to pay! COYBIG 🍀.

16 Jul 2017 15:47:47
If we did get Caulker fans would have to understand that he does have his personal demons, and would need the full backing of everyone at the club, i would back signing him 100%. No better supporters on earth, as in life, some people just need an arm around them for extra support, id be more than willing to be patient with him, the man is a talented player, let the celtic family embrace him and help him help us.

16 Jul 2017 16:32:10
Yep, could be a huge gamble, every signing is I suppose. Mind you, £75m for Lukaku. that's just ridiculous!

I hope we take a chance on him.

Some observasions on the pre season

Is the team and squad better than this time last year - definately
Are there improvements still to be made - most certainly

How are the new players doing - To early to say but the signs are very good

Who else do we need - Defence needs strenghening - no cover for RB/ CD and on yesterdays game Isaguirre let the winger get by him too easily ok for Scotland but a liability in Europe same for Sviatchenko too slow

Young players coming through from scotland must put on more power and muscle if they are to make BR team Ajer, Ralston, Henderson, Miller, Nesbitt and Aitchison also Wardrop, MaCart, Johnstone although Hill looked strong enough out of position at RB

Bitton is not interested therefore should be the next to leave with Cifti and a few youngsters going out on loan

On a side issue why is everyone on James Forrests back. He has done nothing wrong that i can see. Always gives his best and i am sure Lusnig would prefer him in front as he tracks back and helps out.
Hayes has shown nothing more than Forrest but still people want him dropped, He is 5 years younger than Hayes, Where was Hayes 5 years ago certainly not setting the world on fire.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

16 Jul 2017 08:10:19
Still a RAM for me, neither Forrest or Hayes are good enough for where we want to be. Certainly think we want a CB now as well with Boyata being out, particularly for Europe. Probably a right back too, and possibly another striker if the likes of Ralston, Aitchison aren't seen as being ready. Would still like to see a new goalie too so all in all, would like to see quite a few if we could.

Id be well chuffed if we get in a cb and a RW.

I keep hearing about the brilliant young players we have coming through and have done for the last 20 years. Apart from Tierney, over the last ten years we have produced players for Aberdeen and the Dundees of this world.

I think Rogers has had a look and decided if we are to step up then we do t have the talent I house

For me the return from the academy has always been relatively poor with only a handful making first team and apart from Tierney none have been of a standard we need for the CL.

I know someone will say it different now and we have better young players, I hope they are right but time will tell.

I agree with the points about Forrest and Hayes, neither is good enough and combing both you have a player only half as good as wee Paddy.

Anybody got any player they think is the real deal in the young player set up?

Agree2 Disagree1

16 Jul 2017 11:14:40
Magic pole . ajer nesbitt Miller hill Ralston are there or there about . possibally couI'd do with a year loan in spl . henderson has improved in game play ( and physique) any time he's played . but he hasn't come from an epl reserve team so maybe that's the hold up with him getting a game🤔😁. but the thing is if you don't try them you never know if they are good enough . Tierney wasn't being touted as the next big thing then Izzy got injured and the rest is history as they say.

Agree1 Disagree2

16 Jul 2017 11:58:17
I think all of the players you mentioned are good, but I'm not convinced they are good enough and I expect them to eventually move on if we do take another step up.

I sincerely hope they turn out brilliant and surprise me.

As for Tierney, I heard about how potentially great he would become when he was 13.

We need to remember they are no younger than three of the best players on the park for us yesterday, all around 20. If these players can't match their levels then they won't be played and that's the way it has to be if we want to progress on the euro stage.

It's not about age, it's about ability and that for me is the problem over the years, good players emerge but the vast majority leave never having established themselves. It's imperative we produce players as we don't have a big chest of gold, I haven't been convinced since Lennoxtown opened. Could be the country isn't producing any real talent so when we do we want to have them.

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 12:35:38
We can't really argue about the return from the Academy in recent times. What I will say however is that I am more enthused since BR took the hot seat.

We are not going to get a Tierney everytime. We will however get a McGregor, who is massively undervalued by our support. We might even get another McGeady who made us an obscene amount of money to reinvest.

I can see more kids getting the chance in the coming years. It is up to them to make take it with both hands.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 14:33:49
Magic p. they still need the chance to flourish or fail . otherwise we should close the acadamy and buy them of other spl or sfl clubs after they've developed them. as for the 3 you mention they've been getting game Time experience at league level to improve (loans) . i've said here before I hope it was the unbeaten run that stopped br introducing more youngsters last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 18:22:02
I will be doing backflips if they turn out as good as people think. I'm just not convinced yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2017 14:19:09
It's a bit unfair writing off the youngsters based on yesterday's game. It's easier to come in and play well when you're playing alongside established first team players, I think we played the last 25-30 mins yesterday with 8 academy players which was a step too far, if they are introduced individually like KT was I. e playing beside established first teamers then they can be judged more fairly.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jul 2017 01:09:42
Quick question lads. Green brigade walked out of the stadium today due to them not being allowed access to their equipment I believe? Why was this? And does this mean that they won't be at the ground on Wednesday too! Would be a real shame as they are phenomenal and essential for the atmosphere.
