Great result tonight. I don't know how to go into a 2nd leg playoff tie with confidence. What a feeling!

Paddy Roberts would've made all the difference. Maybe the board and Rodgers actually know what they're doing.

Biggest home win in a champions league play off tie apparently, that will do for me :-)

Believable3 Unbelievable1

17 Aug 2017 00:23:07
Has somone ever won more than 5-0 away from home?

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - What would happen if we just dingied next week's game and took a 3-0 defeat?}

16 Aug 2017 23:17:02
What a night btw. Gb at their best. Keep it up bhoys.

Believable6 Unbelievable5

16 Aug 2017 22:40:58
How good was that actually thought we were poor 1st half but I'll take that any day. Well played bhoys we salute u πŸ€.

16 Aug 2017 22:59:17
Was brilliant mate! Crowd was brilliant in the second half.

17 Aug 2017 00:56:32
And you were worried mate, thinking we'd only win by three! Fantastic.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Aug 2017 00:57:04
I think I have been transported to the twilight zone!
I actually think we were poor tonight, I have been watching European games at Celtic Park for 45 years and have never seen a game where we deserved so little yet achieved so much.
Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic at the outcome, of course I am, but am I the only one that thought that we lacked something, or were we better than it looked and this is just modern football?

Agree1 Disagree4

17 Aug 2017 01:18:55
Said the same above Charles tho how many games we seen in Europe where we deserved something and got nothing. At this stage I'll take results over performance any day HH.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Aug 2017 05:58:17
I'd agree the first half we were poor and sloppy and the score flattered us. Second half much better. Ntcham was great, Bitton after a shaky start stepped right into that game, KT as ever was brill, and hopefully that's Sinclair on a game now he was excellent second half. I think the cream rose in the end and to be honest they didn't really trouble us. We were clinical (5 goals with 3 on target! ) and at CL level it's about being clinical. Well done bhoys.

Agree3 Disagree0

16 Aug 2017 22:28:01
I've said on here before that I hadn't been too impressed with Ntcham so far but tonight he was absolutely first class. He'll be a big player for us in Europe.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

16 Aug 2017 22:13:10
Great times. Remember no boyata, dembele, sviatchenko. We will get better and better and better under Rodgers. I can't think of a player he hasn't made better. Look at Brown, Tierney, Armstrong and McGregor.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

16 Aug 2017 22:59:42
Our weakness will be when we've a full squad again, then the delima will start, lol
it's great to be a Tim.
In Brendan we trust βœŠοΈπŸ€.

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Aug 2017 22:09:30
Who was everyone's man of the match?
Mines was James Forrest.
Played really well and was kicked all over the park but never hide.
Got his well deserved goal.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - Forrest had a great game but I'd give my MOTM to Ntcham just in front of Bitton, I thought he was immense in the middle of the park.}

16 Aug 2017 22:14:23
between ntcham and griff for me lads, that transfer fee for the bhoy is starting to look like peanuts.

Agree4 Disagree3

16 Aug 2017 22:19:46
I'm with you here Ed i thought the bhoy did fantastic, passing was immense tonight, his movement about the middle of the park was top class, Β£4.5mil is starting to look like money well spent.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - So if Armstrong signs his new deal as is rumoured does he only come into the team when it's a midfield 3 with Brown and Ntcham or does he start in the 2 with Brown? Good options to have considering the change in the whole system we can easily switch to.}

16 Aug 2017 22:19:56
Ntcham was outstanding tonight, great passing and looked really composed for such a young boy.

Agree0 Disagree3

16 Aug 2017 22:26:06
Just shows you how good we were tonight when we can't agree on a MOTM eh ed.
Biton must be in with a shout tae.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Hard to pick out a criticism of any player - Gordon's distribution, there :-D

16 Aug 2017 22:27:19
Loving Ntcham, solid, skillful and calm on the ball. He's turning out to be another cracking signing.
Well done bhoys, absolutely fabulous!

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Dare we say it - Petrovesque......?

16 Aug 2017 22:39:35
Happily ate my words about Bitton tonight. I thought he looked more comfortable than Jozo. He didn't put a foot wrong. What a great option to have given his passing ability to build from the back.

Said at half time that I thought Ntcham's touch and passing were incredible. That boy looks like a find. He sprayed passes all over the park tonight. The sort of Lambert player who does simple things brilliantly. Very tidy. The team performance was immense though.

Agree1 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 22:40:21
Ntcham for me closely followed by big Jozo thought the 2 of them were different class and strolled through the game.

Agree1 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 22:41:57
I think Armstrong is developing in to a petrov type with the late bursts into the box Ed?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - But as Cav says below, Petrov could run a game from midfield and I don't think Armstrong's there yet. I don't see Armstrong sitting deep pulling the strings, he'll learn that as the years go by and hopefully it's at Celtic.}

16 Aug 2017 22:42:26
Petrov could boss a game and make a pass; for me, Ntcham has a touch that is a cut above. Also, he does this pivot thing, turning around and changing the direction of the team's attack in an instant. Deft little scoops also. Bags of tricks for a Petrov-type player.

Agree1 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 22:43:04
See a wee blue nose has sneaked on to hit the disagree button. Must be hurting πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Agree3 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 22:59:32
Agree with all that cav the way ntcham does that pivot turn and makes space for himself shows he's got it means he can then dictate where he wants the ball to go instead of rushing.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Aug 2017 00:00:06
Griffiths was MOTM. Great link up and lead the line superbly.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2017 00:50:27
Ntcham, griffiths, forest, Sinclair then bitton in that order.

Great to see sinkys confidence go sky high after his goals.

LG led the line extremely well tonight.

Bring on a couple of quality signings starting with paddy. Bhoy.

16 Aug 2017 22:42:00
Has to be the Israeli Baresi.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2017 08:51:16
Shammy for me. The way the turns on the ball is immense, bossed it in the middle of the park. He just doesn't lose the ball. The wee man has a bright future.

Think of the potential of this young team. Imagine Moussa and the others fit. Armstrong likely to sign a new deal to be followed by wee Paddy (please! ) Think of the depth we have. If the boss can add one more real quality player we can challenge for the last 16. And we're only going to get better.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2017 20:45:56
What a deadly first half. They could have had one, we could have had two more, but 2-0 is more than I hoped for. If we can keep it tight at the back and get another one to go over there with a 3 goal lead I will be delighted. I just want to say I think Ntcham is a tidy player. His first touch is dynamite and his passing is immaculate. Also, great first half from Bitton. He has looked very assured. Keep it up big man.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

16 Aug 2017 21:41:46
One of the men of the match for me. He was outstanding. So assured as was the whole team.

Welcome Back to the Green Brigade, hope you make Paradise rock tonight, you have been sadly missed, glad to see you stuck to your principles, the place has been without a heart, hope all the prawn sandwich panty wetters remember to sing along tonight.
To the pitch, I think that we have put out the best we have, no need to worry about the back line, Biton will do the job he has been sent out to do. i think we need to worry more about Sinclair, he is off the pace and has been missing for the last 3 games, I hope BR has give him a good kick up the ass and he gets the service into LG. I thought mcgreggor would start, but he is there to come on when we have run the legs off them. I hope we have the chance to put the whole tie to bed tonight.

Can anyone she'd some light on how Celtic when in the champs league don't wear a patch on the sleeve with a European cup with the number one on it?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I'd go with Gordon; Ralston, Lustig, Simunovic, Tierney; Brown, Ntcham; Forrest, Rogic, Sinclair; Griffiths in a 4-2-3-1.}

Believable3 Unbelievable3

16 Aug 2017 17:50:40
I think it will be tight. We are weeker now than last season. Roberts gone, Dembele out, Boyata out, Sinclair has failed to impress this season, Griffiths 75% fit, Bitton at Centre back? This is going to be close. If we can get Padfy back for second leg (dont know if we can play him then? ) and Griff is 100% we may sneak through over 2clegs but tonight is critical. We need some kind of a win and a clean sheet. I would bite your hand off for 2-0.

Well that was a load of smoke and mirrors total anti clinax hope for the boards sake we qualify or there will be questions asked about a major lack of ambition but vesudes that a think we'll qualify . but it could have been so much easier tho.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

16 Aug 2017 11:35:57
I can't get ma head round people complaining about the situation that has been made clear for yrs tho mally, even rodgers has came out and said that itll be this team that gets us through bud, im happy waiting to after qualification if it means a better quality addition, although as Ed touched on previously i wouldn't be happy if that was the only reason they were coming.

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Aug 2017 12:26:33
There is zero lure in Scottish football so we have to use CL as our main bargaining tool - however because of the crap state of afore mentioned Scottish football we are always faced with three untimely qualifiers bang smack in the middle of a transfer window geared for maximum effect and benefit to players looking to make the best deals.
Therefore, no matter how much we criticise the board - and they have deserved in on many occasions - it must be extremely difficult to reach satisfactory transfer targets while these bloody windows hamper quick business.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - Sinclair, Dembele, Ntcham and Simunovic - plus many others - were all signed before CL qualification was over, so when was the last time we made a big signing after CL qualification was assured?
If you think the board are going to splash serious money if we qualify for the CL you're building yourself up for a major disappointment, it hasn't happened in the past so I don't see it happening this year either.}

16 Aug 2017 12:37:08
Anno mate but they talk about doing business early and here we are struggling for strikers where just one more addition would make life easier if grff pulls up tonight god forbid what have we got. qualify and the money's there its a head scratcher just don't get it.

Agree0 Disagree2

16 Aug 2017 14:17:08
Once a bhoy. the windows are a constant we know when they start and finish . so the board have no excuses for not getting business done.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 14:20:52
I'm not defending the board one bit as they have sat on CL money in the past and will do so again, but I do think our league and the timing of the window makes it easy for players and 'selling' clubs to take their time.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 15:02:13
Worst case scenario we go out tonight we go into EL groups estimated 6 to 8 mill to be made we sold 53.000 st we shipped out the door over 20 players/ wages we took in 1.3 mill allegedly for emillio and potentially 5 to 6 mill if vvd moves i think a wee bit more could have been done unless his targets are just mot available.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And if we go down to the EL will questions be asked of the manager?}

16 Aug 2017 15:02:50
The Board and BR will be on a huge bonus if we qualify and it's probably a lot more than the players bonuses. Hopefully 2or 3 quality additions are added if we go through.3or4 nil tonight as feeling optimistic!

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 15:51:13
Ed anno where your coming from but think the questions will go to the board about backing him just now could paddy have been brought in now peter talks of spending 6 mill but it never happens.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Ah right, it'll be the board's fault then. How have the board not backed him, because they haven't spent enough money for YOU? They bought Ntcham and his blue eyed boy Hayes, we brought in Benyu, did Rodgers not want them?
It was Rodgers in the papers talking about getting players in and settled for qualifiers, players that would improve us on the European stage - then started a team in Rosenborg with one new signing playing and that was only because of injuries - it was Rodgers that said Bitton could cover CB then went back on that saying he was maybe looking at a CB, it was Rodgers that said we didn't need a 3rd choice striker and played Forrest up front. If he had went to the board to sign players I'm sure the board and Lee Congerton would have done their best for him, just like they have done all along.
If Roberts could have been brought in he would have been, Man City and Roberts have a say in that too.
If we fail to qualify from this tie the blame will lie firmly at the manager's door. The squad will have regressed under him and that'll be through his decisions which he will stand or fall. The Ntcham deal will have cost more than Β£6 million when you take into account all the costs involved.}

16 Aug 2017 16:11:08
if the worst happens - then the target will be the board for apparently not backing the manager. However, BR has still managed to add and get rid of players in the close-season, although Hayes has been disappointing and Christie may have offered other options in attack? However it will be his team and tactics, that fans will judge over the two legs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - How have the board apparently not backed Rodgers? There's absolutely zero proof of this.}

16 Aug 2017 16:14:19
Same p*sh different window really. Thankfully there are a lot of players already here that have more to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And now it's time for them to step up, JT.}

16 Aug 2017 16:38:38
Hail Hail to that Ed, it could be a blessing in disguise (remember people wanting us to sign a LB before KT got his chance. It could be even be the plan to use the plethora of promising young players we have, something we've harped on for long enough. That said, one or two bits of proven quality wouldn't have been too much to ask would it. Time yet I suppose. 😧.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The way people are going on you'd think we're playing Real Madrid tonight.}

16 Aug 2017 17:05:28
I'm confident we'll do the business over two legs. I think that alone speaks volumes about where we've come from. I remember the days of O'Neil where I wouldn't even bat an eye at the CL qualifying opponents. I feel pretty close to that now.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2017 17:54:45
Ed doesn't matter what the board do some people will still not give them any
Is it not the board that has led up to this dominant position in Scottish football?
Is the clubs success on and on the field nothing to do with them?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No, Kev that's down to the Green Brigade ;)

16 Aug 2017 18:02:03
Spot on Ed. I have upmost respect fir whst BR has done but it was obvious we needed another striker and still do. If Ajar is not plsying centre back we need another. We will have over 60 games this season. BR would, like Ed says have been backed. I think he called this one wrong. We have not improved the aquad this window so far. Dembele out. Boyota out. Sinclair not doing it with no replacement. Griff semi fit. No Roberts. Bitton at Centre back? So apart from Ntcham what have we added in quality? We should still have enough against Astana but that squad needs some quality injected and not Hayes like players.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2017 18:06:06
We crow about how the mobs club is a shambles and how well run ours is.
But as the same time the people who are running the club get pelters.
Our club is one of the best run in the world.
That is because of the board.

Got a very busy day ahead today with my cousin and his family being over, we are taking him and his wife on the Glasgow Bus Tour today, but I have told them to get a 2 day ticket as they want to see everything, Kelivingrove Art Gallery, People's Palace, Botanic Gardens, Transport Museum, Glasgow Green, Tall Ship etc.
Meanwhile his 15 year old daughter wants to visit a "mall" so we are dropping off our girls and her at Buchanan Galleries, and told them to also walk down Buchanan Street to Pricesss Shopping Centre then through the Argyll Arcade with all the jewellers through then to St Enoch's Centre, that should be plenty of "malls" for anyone lol
But I just wanted to say on the game tonight, I think too much has been made of this "time difference" thing, Astana are regulars now in europe and will be used to all the travelling, no we SHOULD beat them purely on merit but it will be two tough games. We NEED any kind of lead tonight to take over there.
COYBIG.

clean sheet is the key. they score wan we need two.

fancy we will score over there but would prefer not to rely on that. We have 8 games in total in august, competitive games and injuries will happen.

would be far happier with 1-0, 2-0 over 2-1 or 3-1.

wont always be easy or fun, will be tense and torture at some points - but confident we will get thru.

So. we go with what we have. On a side note, am I the only one who would love to see Ronnie D get the Hearts job?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - Everybody should try and get that started as a rumour!}

16 Aug 2017 00:35:11
I know, it's been ridiculous the last week. Anyways, think BR must be quietly confident of getting past Astana with what we have.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - He should be more than quietly confident imo.}

Guys

Spoke to a Polish friend in my work who is a Legia fan and was over in Poland when they played Astana so saw both games.

He said Legia are miles away from the team that Celtic played a few years ago. He predicted we should beat Astana comfortably but said they have 2 decent strikers, both big and strong.

One other point is he said Astana defended pretty deep so don't be surprised to see them sit in tonight.

Well that would be a fear of mine NB up against a big strong striker a hope homework been done then and Lustig or Ajer is the other CH (Y)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - A big strong striker like Rosenborg's Bendtner?}

16 Aug 2017 12:28:35
Lol Ed

Niall mentioned the word decent so that rules out Bendtner

To quote a friend of mine "Biton is ok in there @ SPL level" :-P (Y)

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - And Astana, like Rosenborg, are no better than an SPFL team.}

16 Aug 2017 13:00:20
Fair enough Ed, But if they have got two big decent strikers and that is there plus side that suggests to me they are better than Connor Salmon and Kris Boyd surely?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Astana's star man Patrick Twumasi - who is desperate to leave - has scored 34 goals in 108 appearances for them. I can't understand why people are being so negative about this tie while they are literally looking for reasons why we might get beat. And we all know there will be fans out there hoping Bitton makes a mistake that costs us a goal just so they can say they told us so.}

16 Aug 2017 13:33:25
Nobody on here wants Celtic to lose a goal Ed ( Unless UJ is making an appearance lol)

Prevention is better than the cure buddy an if that is his deficiency then surely there has to be a better option?

Naturally, I hope you are right and they are no better than an SPL mob (Y)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - You believe that if you want but I think there are people who would love something to go wrong in this tie just so that they can moan about certain players, the board, lack of investment etc. We seen them under Lennon and we seen them under RD so why would they change their way of thinking now?
Let's be honest, history shows that there's more chance of Gordon costing us than Bitton so why aren't people worried about the GK?}

16 Aug 2017 14:36:15
Agree Ed. BUT. I don't want anyone to cost us. end of. COYBIG.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Aug 2017 14:46:47
Well none of that applies to me Ed. In the minority me having stuck for CG since day one although I would have taken Chelsea's money off him

I like others think NB is good enough CH for the SPL but this area is where he is a let down IMO

I think we are frugal, book balancer's it cracks us up I know but I don't see that changing do you? Love or Loathe RD he was the cheap option at a time that suited us, they short changed us IMO with his appointment, sentiment in the fans changed and they went out and got BR when they needed to because the backlash was turning on them

Simple formula really IMO (Y)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - So if we don't go through surely we must start asking questions of the manager. Remember this is a team we played and drew away from home with last year with a defence of Janko, Ambrose, O'Connell and Tierney and beat at home with Janko, Lustig, O'Connell and Tierney in there.
We're playing a team that have won just 3 of their last 18 away European matches, drawing 3 and losing 10 and they failed to score in 8 of those matches. They started against Legia with 8 of the same players that faced us last year and people are worrying about Bitton maybe playing CB, what'll they moan about if Rodgers goes with Lustig and Simunovic, they'll probably start about what'll happen if LG gets injured early doors. The overall negativity in the support surrounding this tie is unbelievable.}

16 Aug 2017 15:26:13
I would need to agree with that Ed there is loads of negativity on here

My overview is simple that if we set out like that then that would be courting trouble if that is there strength mate

Watch this now Biton will step up and ping one of they humdingers and make me look daft or get the winner via a corner lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I expect Aberdeen and Hibs to give us a harder game at home than Astana. As I said last night, they'll come here and park the bus looking to hit us on the counter attack, that's what they done against Legia, and it's what we're used to playing against week in and week out, Rosenborg done the same and even though we struggled they were never going to put us out.
If we keep our concentration and stick to the game plan tonight then we should take a comfortable lead over there next week.
It wouldn't matter who we had drawn the same people would be peddling the same negativity, why shouldn't we be confident of beating a team we beat last year considering the improvements in our squad and our tactics etc?}

15 Aug 2017 23:42:50
Ed wots the script wae kouassi? Any news on his injury? Maybe av missed it on here if you've already told us.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - They were waiting on the results from scans last I heard. I'm sure John Kennedy said they didn't think it was serious but don't hold me to that.}

16 Aug 2017 00:20:18
Reports tonight say he needs ankle surgery.
