I have heard that Celtic have a decent chance of getting Javier Hernandez on loan if we qualify for CL, thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hernandez will more than likely be joining Juventus, Spurs and Southampton are also interested but the player prefers Juventus and could be used as part of any deal to take Arturo Vidal to Old Trafford.}

Hi all any more news on Aleksander Tonev?
is he still injured and if so what for and for how long?

lovin the response after that game. last week it was all rd has had it by christmass and today its the best we've ever seen celtic play. jeezo man. does anybody just support the team anymore without getting suicidal after a bad result. aye the legia results where p""h but f"ck me, new manager just in, total change of style and zxero signings before hand. it was hardly a shocker. I thought from the get go that rd has a goo vision for celtic and its about freakin time we were dragged into the 21st century football wise

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You don't think 6 1 over two legs was a shocker?
I see what your saying but I think most frustrations are that we have brought a new manager in and failed to back him

Agree0 Disagree0

6-1? Just checked the official results and it was 4-1 away and 3-0 home win. Celtic qualified on goals away rule. Sorry, could not resist it but you are quite right, we were well beaten lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Bobby
6-1 over two legs against Legia wasn't a shocker.
It was a total fekkin shambles of an embarrassment. If it had been a boxing match the referee would have stopped the fight and the promoter would have given the crowd their money back.
Yesterday's performance against DU was excellent but let's not get carried away and think all the problems have been fixed in a week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Since he arrived I've been impressed with rd, the way he speaks about the games, players, his vision, the way he conducts himself in interviews, his honest appraisells in interviews, we knew the cl ties where very early and most people thought we could get caught out in them( but a resut like that was coming with this squad as they rode their luck a good few times under lenny) but not only has rd had to go into these games straight from pre season while assessing and getting to know his squad, but without funds for players.so even if we don't get past Maribor who are a decent outfit, I've seen enough to believe we shoudnt be sacking him and to let him find his feet and continue his vision for our future .

Agree0 Disagree0

Bobby I haven't come across many promotor who have halted fights and less who have given money back to the punters .

Agree0 Disagree0

It was me who said that yourman, not bobby. I was using it as a way to say we were atrocious. It wasn't meant literally mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Bobby my mistake .
Chrisbhoy, can we take it that in future posts we can interpret what you say as we like?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I'd have thought most people would have known what I was trying to say without it having to be explained. But yes, feel free to interpret my posts as you see fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 20:29:54
Alright ed what did you make of that today? I thought it was the best I've seen us play in a long time, fast slick passing at a high tempo. The two new guys did great young guy at the back strolled it and big berget showed nice touches and scored two good goals.
Just hope it's a sign of things to come

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It was a good game to watch, the performance was more important than the score.}

9 goals scored and we still need a quality striker, if giving funding for the players he wants for his systems we could take a massive leap forward football style wise (as long as lenny and john park don't recommend the striker)

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry it was never in Lennon's remit to have anything to do with recruiting . So that only leaves Park and it doesn't look as if Deila is taking much heed of his says .

Maribor Asst. looked concerned @ h t! as though he was watching a different team

Big pluses for that CH pairing god if we could only keep them together, delighted for CG too obviously being tested more now and passing!

If RD gets an "out n out" goal scorer we could take TEN off one of the lesser teams based on that performance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We could easily have taken 10 off Utd. There were a few missed chances, blocked shots and their keeper had a hand full of good saves too.
Obviously too early to get carried away, but if we can add a couple of quality additions, we may have a great season?

16 Aug 2014 18:33:34
What about getting in Darren Bent from Aston Villa as our wild card signing before the Maribor game? The guy has always had goals in him and I think its exactly the type of player we are looking for at the moment.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just not the player he was mate! We need a fit ready and on form player ready to fire on full throttle was a player but wages would be a problem even if he was up to the job!

16 Aug 2014 17:44:00
seen the boy kjartjansson now has 22 goals in 22 games with 6 assists, it makes you wonder did anybody actually watch the boy play during his trial here

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2014 18:32:49
They didn't take up the option on him because his name was too hard to pronounce

Agree0 Disagree0

If he is up to the job we could probably sign him for 1m or so.

Hi Ed,

Dont suppose we have an option to buy Denayer, boy looks strong, pacy and comfortable on the ball, just what we need at the back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No mate there isn't, and don't listen to anyone saying he is out of contract next summer, Denayer is contracted to City until 2016.}

The boy looks like the next VVD they even look a bit alike! U never know we might manage to get him after the loan because what's the chance of him breaking into the city team? Even maybe a 2nd year loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no chance he will sign on permanent deal. Do you honestly think if he continues to play like that (even if he was available) clubs in EPL wouldn't pull out all the stops to sign him?

Well played Celts; much more like it!
Izzy was immense and Johansen back to his best and the new Bhoys, Berget and Denayer were terrific.
The chasing, passing and moving and tempo were all much better and the rest takes care of itself.
Mulgrew was OK, but never a midfield player and Craig Gordon had another good comfortable performance as did Ambrose.
Everyone wanted the ball and that's always good and it makes such a difference when players are confident and positive.
VVD is a majestic footballer and could form a great partnership with Denayer, plus Lustig and Izzy.
I still reckon we need another quality striker and maybe a winger as Griffiths may be on his way and young Forrest has yet another injury.
The Utd goalie made several saves and there were many blocked shots and this could have been an absolute humiliation for a good Dundee Utd team.
I really hope we approach both Maribor ties with the right attitude and effort as they will be the most difficult opponents we have met so far - assuming this latest appeal fails (Do they phone a friend or ask the audience next?).

JJ

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe have to contact Alec Salmond and try to get a YES vote

Agree0 Disagree0

The best thing about Celtic today was the all round team performance .

I'm with you Gunnie. He just isn't good enough. He slows the play down gives away far to many balls and doesn't seem to provide either an attacking midfield threat or a defensive midfield wall

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 18:35:10
Agree he's our weak link and izzy defenceifle was terrible first half on another day his defending could have put us behind and would have been a totally different game also thought Gordon fills the defence with confidence foster who ha

Enjoying the game so far. Playing very neat attacking football. Denayer looked nervous in the first 10 minutes but has had a reasonably solid game so far. I think it's clear after the build up of play that we need a striker who can make the runs and hold up play. Stokes just isn't good enough 80% of the balls played to him he's either shrugged off or his touch is poor.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aye, so nervous, he got our first goal in that 'first ten minutes' and ended up Man-Of-The-Match, eh .

Well that was an entertaining 1st half. Looking excellent going forward and that's 2 goals in 2 games by pressing high up the field which is what Ronny has been trying to implement. Very encouraging indeed. Still look suspect at the back though with Izzy and Deneayer at times but it's his first game and actually reminds me or big Virgil in his 1st game away at Karagandy and look how he turned out. Also, is it me or is Ambrose's ability to carry the ball and beat people a real positive at full back? All in all, very very pleased so far. More of the same in the 2nd half please bhoys!

16 Aug 2014 13:38:18
Well, I am stunned with this performance so far.

Every player has been fantastic. Even Efe seems to be a good player so far at RB.

I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong in regards to McGregor, while he has not played brilliant in any games, he has fair come on and first team player in my changed opinion.

Top striker to be signed and I would be a very happy Bhoy, hopefully this is Celtic finally clicking into RD's philosophy of football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 Aug 2014 13:37:16
I'm going to say it! This is the best I have seen Celtic play in years! Short sharp passing they look streets ahead of United! Great to watch! Both loan signings look quality players!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree 100%, possibly the best first half of football I have seen celtic play. RD has brought a breath of fresh air about the place with his ideas and tactics and thank god we have finally a manager how is not afraid to sub players outside the last five minutes.

Mackay Stevens speed and willingness to take a player on, not just today but last season Celtic should take a punt and try and buy him.
I'd take Armstrong as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would have though today would have put to bed this nonsense about buying Dundee utd and other local talent .Celtic have the best of the Scottish talent and they struggle to get a starting position .

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm the same TTS and nt really seen a stand-out player in the Scottish Leagues that would improve our side.

I would take Armstrong though and Stevie May would have been a good shout I reckon, that's it.

Mathews injured in the warm-up! As much as I like the lad and he showed immense potential - it's surely time we let him go?
On the team itself I wasn't expecting so many changes after Wednesday - especially Lustig missing out.
Here's hoping it doesn't backfire on such a big day?

3 changes to the team, Lustig, Forrest and Bitton all dropped for Denayer, Berget and Mulgrew

Lustig injured? can't understand this, surely we need to build consistency early on

Morning all and happy Flag Day. lots to look forward to with the main thing being the game obviously, but the appearance of 'the bunnet' adds considerably to the overall picture.

I find it very pleasing, and a touch overdue, that Fergus will be lauded today. For those of us of a certain age this guy is up there with Stein and Walfrid, he really was that influential.Pre Fergus we were heading the way of rangers. We had a board who seemed to treat our club like some personal bank, a bank that they were the only ones with the ability to extract cash from.

Unlike the only other time Fergus raised the flag there will be no booing, just a healthy appreciation that this man saved our wonderful history.Make no mistake, if we had went the way of rangers there would have been no 'newco' nonsense. The authorities would have buried us.Fortunately, or unfortunately for Farry, Fergus would not be messed with. I hope he and his family enjoy the day and the team put on a show for him

On the team, there seems to be an improvement now.I thought we looked a bit slicker and sharper v St Johnstone. There are still areas we need to work on, especially defence, but RD still has my support. In my opinion the more we hear of from him the more he impresses me.He seems to be a genuine honest guy who will not feed us lines. What is very apparent is the media in Scotland, particularly the written press, are dying for this guy to fail.

These 'reporters' just cannot conceal their agenda. It leaps out of every outlet and I find it disgusting. The way they are reporting the whole UEFA case is ludicrous. Why you would think they actually want the poles to go through despite EVERY other SPFL team getting a decent cheque because of us reaching the group stages. We seem to be up against them all again, so let's start filling Celtic Park regularly and getting right behind the team and RD.

The players need our support, it breeds confidence and lifts them, and we have broken some of the best sides in the world in Paradise. All I ever ask from a player is 100% effort and commitment, surely a given when you play for us. We miss Broony, in a lot of periods badly, but he will be back soon.Today will be, I would think, a great game.Utd will play football and look to hurt us at every turn, I think this will help our game and I look to the players to play the kind of game RD has promised us.

So everybody enjoy. We are the biggest and best team in this country.Forget Europe and let's get right in about UTD, this is a big game, and a league one at that, and we need to send a message that all is well at Celtic.Yes we are bedding in to a new system, but when it is perfected we will be ripping this league a new one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Happy Flag Day GJ :-)

This is an important day for Celtic and Fergus has been important part of our history, his contribution by far out weighs any negatives anyone thought of him at the time. He was honest and kept his word, yeah he made a lot of money but he kept his side of the bargain. Fergus is what he is and never pretended otherwise. Cheers Fergus

No idea what the team selection will be but I wasn't overly impressed with the St Johnstone performance although we did look more lively and created more than the previous match v Legia - which wouldn't have been difficult. Think it will be a close encounter and hoping our forward players find their shooting boots, gain a bit of confidence ahead of the game midweek.

Ronny is coming across as honest and has been quick to realise the job and expectations at Celtic. He is a bit rabbit caught in the headlights and it will be interesting to see how he reacts. The need for a striker is desperation levels, c'mon Celtic.

I cannot for the life of me understand Legia's tactics with Celtic at all. By all means have a go at UEFA - any Club would be livid, maybe they are just taking it our on all concerned. Who knows, maybe keeps the fans happy so they don't concentrate on the monumental schoolboy clerical error by their own Cub?

I'll be happy what its all over, whichever way its decided. How could Legia just not have kept their own house in order and we wouldn't be having all this?

Agree0 Disagree0

@Green Jhedi good to hear from you pal hope everything is OK at your end.
I agree with you about Fergus, he will get a rapturous reception today and well deserved. Yes, Farry and his modern "ilk" will be pig sick to see the bunnet and his beloved club Celtic so healthy financially (unlike a certain other downmarket south side club) and if we get to group stages of CL we will need 5 securicor vans to carry it all lol.
But GJ as a Celtic fan brought up on our core values of fair play for everyone, I do have sympathy for Legia, we got lucky and they ran out of luck, let's not kid ourselves we would be mumping and moaning if celtic made a mistake so costly so I for one wish the Poles good luck for season ahead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one GJ. Enjoyed the text.Hail hail and enjoy your day.

Agree0 Disagree0

The best thing we can do is encourage the team and hope for improvement - and momentum.
There were good and bad things about our performance at St Johnstone, but a 3-0 victory up there is pretty useful.
They usually give us a few problems and we controlled the game in general and kept a clean sheet.
The penalty decisions went in our favour but we deserved to win.
The SLY panel outcry after the game - especially by wee ratboy McCann can be expected every time we are covered by their biased broadcasts.
One thing that sticks in my throat is when there is an ex-Celtic panel member, they never stick up for us and are over apologetic and critical of the team that looked after them.
Ex-Sevco guys never have this trait.

The Scottish media have always had an anti-Celtic agenda and shamefully take sides with any other party that seems to have a grievance with us.
They have chosen to shield and protect the biggest lie in Scotland since 2012, but we all know the truth
In the Legia case - they were the architects of their own failing by breaking UEFA rules.
But hey; it's all our fault as usual.

I really hope Legia Warsaw get pumped in their europa league qualifier and are out of europe all together.

Bunch of whining little b*tches

Believable0 Unbelievable0

DN
There's no doubt they are creating a real stir with the whole issue. We'd do the same if it were us.
I'm still feeling shame about how easily they thumped us though and I think that's giving them extra motivation to pursue the matter. Had it been a close game or if the player concerned had actually made a difference to the outcome then maybe they'd be less outspoken.
I still don't see why they're blaming CFC though. We didn't do anything wrong and now Tomaszewski is asking all other European teams to boo us. That's totally uncalled for and there should be sanctions imposed for their attempts to create bitterness between CFC and the footballing community.

Agree0 Disagree0

They're actually worse than the rangers mob

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing short of ridiculous the press they are getting. If I hear one more time from the Scottish media they were thrown out of Europe I will feckin scream. They were not. They went out on away goals. If they had scored one of the penalties we would be out.Why can't our reporters admit that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Remember this in Scotland, 2011

East Stirlingshire have been expelled from the Scottish Cup after fielding an ineligible player in their fourth-round win over Buckie Thistle.

The Falkirk goalkeeper Michael Andrews played in last week's 1-0 victory for Shire despite the registration documents for his loan extension failing to appear at Hampden Park.

Legia should be punished further for the nonsense over the last week.

Agree0 Disagree0

They are looking to blame everyone but themselves. For me the buck stop with Henning Berg. He's the manager. Its his responsibility to ensure all team selections are eligible.

Shocking treatment of the administrator. Poor woman only following instructions and receiving death threats.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Aug 2014 02:09:51
All these media pundits and supposedly ex players rambling on about Celtic doing the right thing and should be ashamed blah, blah, blah. Let's not forget, Legia were not demoted or kicked out of the CL by EUFA. They fielded a banned player and suffered the existing fixed penalty. Celtic were awarded that ONE GAME 3-0. This made the overall result fall in Celtics favour because of the away goal. Celtic have maintained a dignified silence throughout the whole affair. I think all those other nonentities who are desperate for some publicity should do the same.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as a neutral, I don't get all the fuss. Legia were in the wrong and they received a standard punishment for fielding an ineligible player. I really don't understand what they have to complain about?}

All this crap do the right thing, we done the right thing by not actually mentioning the fact they played a suspended player, they seem to forget we accepted we got beaten no complaints but someone in uefa picked up on it, plus how can a professional club not realise the rules, surely in there league they have to register players to play so europe is no different, suspensions all work the same!

Agree0 Disagree0

Do the right thing should apply to the rules. I don't see the fuss about it at all. Did we get beaten? Yes? Did they break the rules? Yes.

It doesn't surprise me that some of the most vocal on this subject are fans of the now defunct Govan team. They've always thought rules were there to be broken - and as was the case with them, the media can't seem to tell the difference between consequence and subsequence.
