Thought forest was a man down tonight, he was walking around the park marking nobody. Wilson at full back wasn't much better, surely they both won't start on Sunday. Why do Celtic try and sit back and defend in Europe it's a game that is totally alien to them and they just can't do it. Another nearly story that ends the same way....defeat away in Europe. I'm sure most fans would prefer to go away from home and have a right go at teams. Decent display from big sammy tonight......enough for a start a castle grey skull on Sunday?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I thought Atletico obviously watched the Motherwell game cause everytime Forrest got the ball they put 2 and sometimes 3 men on him.

Mark

I bet their manager couldn't sleep for worrying about James Forrest

Falcao...£35m, I'm sure we'll cope with the '£9m Jelavic' on Sunday, nae bother & we'll have Kaddouri playing. Is the combined wealth of the goalscorers enough to clear the tax bill, no reason..just wondering ?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Yeah you'll definitely cope with Jelavic if that Superstar Kaddouri's playing! I might not be able to sleep on Saturday night worrying about it!

Ole!

Agree1 Disagree0

Glad you agree...have a wee dram before bedtime {Ed007's Note - Calpol usually works.}

Agree0 Disagree1

Am gonna have nice dreams rangers winning 4 in a row and before i know it wee will win 4 in a row jelavic will score on Sunday so will Naismith and so i reckon 2 nil to rangers and i will be happy good night {Ed007's Note - Round of applause for 'wee will'. Post of the day without a doubt. Take a bow Will, take a bow.}

Hope you put your sheets in the machine before your maw made your bed this mornin.

Beginning to think this Europa League might be a hinderance rather than a bonus. I know the financial rewards are great but don't think we are good enough to compete, and are never going to win it. The players are going to be tired after tonight and this will have a bearing on Sunday. Worried it may cost us in the long run if we lose the league.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

We're still a better team than them, dont worry mate. and dont forget, by playing against quality teams like tonight makes players raise their game and gives them experience, so it's all good.
cant wait for sunday now:)

Agree2 Disagree2

If we lose the league It'll be because we're not good enough not because we're in Europe and certainly not because we're tired. Just for the record I think we are good enough.

Mark

Agree2 Disagree1

There's not much point in us being in it. We arent good enough to compete with anyone outside of scotland anymore, as we've proved with the hammerings at Utrecht and Sion. Waste of time really. Sad to say. {Ed007's Note - I can't believe this is CFC fans coming out with this! Why even bother winning the league? The CL is a waste of time too then? I bet any Rangers fan would love to have had any European football this week.}

Agree1 Disagree2

I was gonna have a rant at your post but I think Ed hit the nail on the head, you can't possibly be a Celtic fan an If you are your a Fudd.

Mark

Agree3 Disagree1

I was a wee bit cynical at first after the Sion game but now..I'm loving it & will admit I'm glad we were reinstated ! I was actually nervous on Tuesday incase UEFA overturned their decision..

Agree3 Disagree0

I'm a Rangers fan and i wish we were still in Europe tbh. Can't complain because we were found wanting in the qualifiers. It's been a poor couple of years for Scottish Clubs in Europe. We were doing well and punching above our weight then turned gash overnight. {Ed007's Note - I wasn't having a dig about Rangers mate, I just can't believe that fans don't want European football!}

Agree1 Disagree0

I would have given my right nut to have been given the chance to lose last night.

Some fans need to get a grip.

Am I still allowed to say "get a f*cking life"?

daviet

Agree2 Disagree0

Daviet you are the one open minded Rangers fan who posts on this site mate , Tony and his cohorts really need to stop living in Denialsville , i don't think its the end for Rangers , but they are not looking to healthy at the moment , i honestly don't know what will happen on Sunday , but as long as it is played fairly and without controversial incidents or decisions then no one can complain , enjoy the game mate .

Sorry, but why are people quite happy with tonight? We didn't have a shot on target the whole match, we conceded 2 very poor goals and Fraser Forster was our best player... Where's the positives going into Sunday? Conceded 2, sat back the whole game, put Atletico under no pressure... I'll admit we held onto the ball well at times but what's the point in that if there's nobody forward? I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are in desperate need of someone who isn't afraid to try things and go forward. Everyone is relying on someone else to produce a bit of magic. No-one takes responsibility to try something, big lack of ideas on the ball. It was almost as if we turned up as just a minor problem for Atletico to try and break us down. Sorry, I may be wrong, but I can't see anything positive about tonight.

Jamie

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Err thats how most teams play away in europe? no point in playing attacking football and getting pumped 7-0

Agree2 Disagree1

I thought we did well considering the forward line they have, we limited them to shooting from long range, I'll admit the 1st goal was sloppy but on the whole it was not too bad. Ki's shot was going in till the keeper tipped it over, Mulgrews free kick wasn't far away and Hooper was unlucky the ball caught under his feet. I thought Samaras was excellent, held the ball up, took on players and won a few free kicks, I don't know what you were expecting away from home against a team of that quality but I can't really fault any of them for their attitude and overall play tonight. Although none of them will admit It I think Rangers fans will be a bit less confident after seeing us tonight.

Mark

Agree4 Disagree1

Sorry not to nitpick but we only had 2 shots on goal 2nite and they were both on target.

Drew

Agree3 Disagree0

I must have been seeing things. i thought i seen ki have shot on target.

Agree2 Disagree0

No shots on target the whole match? so you obviously missed Ki's effort from 25 yards that the keeper had to touch over, and there were one or two other efforts as well.
what would your plan have been? go at them and leave holes all over the place for £34million strikers to exploit? yeh, great.....instead of being a tight game, we really would have been lambs to the slaughter.
and btw, we never sat back the whole game, we dominated the first 20 mins of the second have and had good 5/10 minute spells throughout the game.....in fact, were you even watching the game?

Agree4 Disagree0

15 Sep 2011 22:45:07
Not so much a rumour more an observation. I thought Celtic were excellent tonight, apart from the two errors for the goals. As the game passed celtics confidence increased and we showed we can compete at this level. Ki's decision making and drive with Kayals battling was too much for madrids midfield at times. What lets us down is lack of confidence especially in the scots wilson, forrest and mulgrew. They never have confidence in their ability in tight situations.Believe and we can repair some damage to Celtic reputation in europe.

Substitutions...

Was anyone else screaming at the TV in the hope Lennon would make a change tonight? Fair enough he brought players on after 70ish minutes but it was always too late to change the game after their second goal. Can't remember the last time he made a game-changing substitution.

I was hoping to see him hook Hooper early in the 2nd half. Thought he did ok first half in a role he's clearly not made for but as the game wore on it became obvious that we needed to change things up front as we weren't creating anything Hooper could get on the end of and he became more and more anonymous as the game went on. I was half hoping he'd bring on Bangura and push Sammy up front for both the reasons mentioned and to rest Hooper for Sunday. Commons is another I'd have brought on earlier.

I guess in retrospect it's easy to look back on games but a defeat is a defeat - we had no creative spark or final ball despite a few decent spells going forward and I'd have liked to have seen him try something to improve this side of our game and to give players a rest for Sunday.

Overall I thought we put in a decent performance but offered nothing up front - something that needs to be rectified if we're going to go with 4-5-1. At least the result was kept respectable and Atlético had very few clear cut chances...pretty tight game despite the scoreline and definitely positives to take from it. Maybe a bit optimistic but there was nothing outlandishly special from Atlético tonight to suggest we can't get a result at home against them but again we'll need to improve big time in the final third - an area we're used to creating 10-15+ chances a game.

Wouldn't have liked to be a neutral watching that tonight...severe lack of goalmouth action!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

15 Sep 2011 22:29:46
i have to say, i thought tonight we handled ourselves pretty well. good performances all over the pitch, including big glenda and sammy. ki & ledley worked their socks off and the whole team can be happy with their performance. when we started the second half, dictating the pace of the game, athletico looked out of sorts, and barring a few unfortunate slips in and around the penalty area, i thought we could have scored at least once.

to be honest, i think we can take something off them at paradise, a win is certainly not impossible. if we play like that on sunday, we'll wipe the floor with them. i can see us teaching them a good lesson and keeping up Lennons fantastic record in OF games

Believable3 Unbelievable2

15 Sep 2011 22:22:28
I think there were a lot of positives to come out of tonight! They are a top class european who spent over £30m on a striker and I didn't think there was very much in it! Kayal and Ki were top class and Joe Ledley is the ultimate unsung hero, covered every blade of grass! One thing I hope Lenny has learned is never to let Samaras wear the hoops again! The guy is an embarassment offers nothing! What do u think ed??

Barrybhoy {Ed007's Note - I actually thought Samaras played well Barry.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Thought Samaras was one of our best players tonight.

Mark

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO Sammy was our best player which unfortunately means jack all given his inconsistency but he played tonight as if he's got a point to prove. I wish Lennon would find out what it is that motivates the guy so we could use him more effectively.

Ki had a decent game, and Forrest could've been more of a threat had he seen more of the ball in the final third.

Ki has been dubbed the Korean Gerrard. This season I think we've seen evidence of this as he didn't exactly stand out last season or under Mowbray in this respect but instead I saw him more as a better Marc Crosas who could pick a pass but IMO he's been player of the season for us so far by a country mile. I wish to Christ he'd gotten forward into space more often tonight as he sure as hell can hit a ball from 25 yards and the way the game was going we were never going to score from inside the box.

My money is on Ki for player of the year. Really excited about this guy and hope he sticks around for at least another season beyond this one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mowbray in charge of last season .... ed u never picked up on this lol ?

SING TO THE TUNE OF MY LOVELY HORSE FROM FATHER TED:

"My lovely Gers freeloading over in Govan,
Where are you going with your tax bill ringing in the wind?
I want to shower you with insolvency,
And drag you through court,
Sell your players every single day,
And bring you to your knees,

My lovely Gers,
You're a football club no more,
Running around with a monkey on your back,
Like a thief in the night,
Like a thief in the night."

We are a poor team when we come up against quality opposition. Tonight is a perfect example of what I was saying all along......we shouldn't be in this Europa League at all. Not because of legal issues with Sion, but because we simply aren't good enough! I'm fed up seeing us getting thumped in these games.

1 win from 31 away games in Europe.....the shame continues!

ChrisBhoy {Ed007's Note - Atletico are a great team. Stronger than a lot of CL teams, as will be Udinese. There will be better teams than us get beat at Atletico this season.}

Believable0 Unbelievable4

If you thought that was a poor display, you know absolutely nothing about football, or you're a snake mountain subscriber.

im happy with how we played, anif it wasnt for a few unfortunate errors and slips, we could definitely have taken something out of the game

Hey Ed i never want to hear one Celtic fan ever come on here and slag of Rangers about putting 11 men behind the ball what formation is that 4 1 4 1 merging to 5 4 1 or 4 5 1

Tony

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It is true, I have no problem in playing that way because in Europe we have to accept that we are the inferior team and it is the most effective way of getting a result. But over the past few years I have had to listen to Celtic fans banding about the 'anti football' phrase. Well, you are doing it tonight, and you conceded, meaning you will need to open up at some point.

GovanFR

Agree0 Disagree0

Not that im slaggin celtic of for playing that way i think Lennon knows he dosnt have the quality players to go out and play attacking football against these guys just as walter did. take Kayal one of the best mid-fielders in the spl but up till now out of his depths.

{Ed007's Note - How can most of the money be going into shareholders pockets when we have smashed our debt to almost nothing?}

i agree ed you are nearly debt free and as you can see by the state my club is in its not a bad thing.

but the down side of this is you are also nearly trophy free how long do you think the Celtic fans will put up with this tell me one successful team that is not in Debt

Tony {Ed007's Note -Money doesn't always buy success either Tony. How many clubs end up in trouble with chasing dreams, Leeds? And look at the over all cost of Rangers over expenditure, possible administration.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Im in total agreement Ed money doesn't necessary mean success. the last three seasons Rangers have been relatively successful and we haven't spent much our problem have come from trying to be successful in Europe and we all know how that turned out. all im asking is how long will Celtic fans put up with not winning the League even though they are debt free. i know how fickle fans can be just look at the petition link above and Celtic fans are no different they crave success and will soon let their board know if its not forth coming despite being debt free.

Tony {Ed007's Note - It's finding the right balance Tony, CFC are closer to that than Rangers and Rangers need to get it sorted before they face expulsion from Europe when the FFP regulations come in.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest ed do you reckon that Celtics wage structure is sustainable. I would think you lot have a higher wage bill than us, with a similar income. Therefore Celtic too will have a problem when the new regulations come in.

GovanFR {Ed007's Note - The wage bill does need to be lowered but when you look at how the debt was brought down last year, without winning the league and no European income. We won't be that far away.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If your debt was brought down by a direct capital injection from your owner then it will be a problem. Although lets not kid anyone the new UEFA rule will have lots of loopholes.

GovanFR {Ed007's Note - It was brought down through turnover mate. There will be loopholes GFR but FIFA are very serious about this, all loopholes will be closed down. Look at Man City, there stadium is now sponsored by their owners company ETIHAD (look up and see what that word means), very lucrative but also very questionable. Man Utd have recently signed a £40 million sponsorship deal with DHL for their training kit!!! If the 'big' teams are worrying it shows they know how serious FIFA are taking FFP Regs. The days of the 'sugar daddy' bank rolling their clubs and not balancing the books are coming to an end. It will still be the clubs with the bigger incomes that will be at the top of the pile, but some very big clubs are worried, even Barcelona.}

Just to change the subject a wee bit, away from the tit for tat ramblings of "you're worse than us". This is for both sets of fans.
When have you been most proud supporting your team?
For me Seville is definately up there.We couldn't get a ticket so we were in the Porto park because the Celtic park was full. We must have out numbered them 5 to 1. They looked terrified when they saw how many tims there were. That all changed at full time when we congratulated them. The friendly atomsphere was amazing.
But number 1 has to be the last game of last season. Finally got the mrs up for a game. She turned from delving in supporting Celtic, to being a real fan. Knowing the league was going to our most bitter rivals didn't stop a carnival atmosphere. That day made her a fully fledged Celt. That support changed her forever. Jeez, it only took 9 years. But now she wants to get up to as many games as we can get to. And she's trying to get her Man UTD supporting dad to come up as well to, as she put it, "see a real atmosphere".
Ben Bhoy 1916 {Ed007's Note - I'm proud and thankful to be a CFC fan everyday Ben ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me it was on the way back from Manchester after the cup final, on hearing about the Death of Tommy Burns we headed to Celtic Park and was confronted by many Rangers and Celtic fans paying there respects. made me proud to be a Rangers Fan knowing that despite all the hatred between the two clubs fans can still put things into perspective.

This is an absolute disgrace if this is the work of Rangers Fans then they should hang their head in shame where were the petitions when we were winning nine in a row where were the petitions when we where signing the De boers the butchers Gazza hately etc. yes David murray made mistakes but everything he done was in his mind done to bring success to the club .
this guy spent over £50 mil of his own money on our club. if this is being orchestrated by Celtic fans then how low can you go.

shows you how far scottish football has fallen when Rangers are devastated to be out of Europa and Celtic are Delighted to be reinstated through default and harry Redknap sticks on a bunch of inexperienced boys on the park and youth players on the bench that shows you what spurs think of this competition. i think Europe competitions should be revamped if the CL was just for Champions it would make the Europa far more relevant.

i don't honestly think we will get anything out of tonights game in Madrid , but if we play as well as we can at Ibrox on sunday , and Mr Thomson and his deputies play "fair" there is no reason why we should not get a victory , Celtic are not looking for any favours , just fair play and honesty from the officials , if we get that it should be a good game , so come on Mr Thomson lets be talking about the game on Monday , not your performance .

Hi ed

I've been reading the taunts of this "RFC" fan on the Liverpool site.

Strange business.

Looking at the timing of the post and the language used I wonder what odds I'd get on that contributor and NeilT or Timalloys IP addresses looking similar?

I hope not......

Strange though that the posts were continually punctuated by "ha ha". Looks a little familiar. And that a post appeared on our pages asking us to have a look at teh LFC page IMMEDIATELY after....

Very strange

Strange also that it appeared just before someone was posting on our pages using my name....

I wonder...

daviet {Ed007's Note - On the Rangers site Davie? I can pass on your tag to the other Ed's so that nobody can pretend to be you. I think it is very childish and quite warped to pretend to support another team just for a childish giggle.}

Afternoon Ed007, just in and reading the posts, not getting drawn into anything. Ed007 about YNWA I was a Celtic Park 1969/70'ish v Benfica I think, and whole park was singing it, hair on the back of your neck time Superb. I know Celtic are supposed to have an affinity with Man Utd, but I think a lot of Celtic fans like me have a bond with Liverpool fans, I think it is the two sets of fans have the same type of wit and humour in making up songs and chants.
I was about 14 when Lisbon came about, too young too appreciate it, but I loved our attacking style of play and wee jinky, also loved european nights in the jungle brilliant.
Billybhoy, Tony, Germinator, Daviet how sad to hear you never go to watch other teams, maybe we Celtic fans were spoiled by our displays, but it instilled in me a love of good football and when Ajax with Cruyff, Benfica Euseibio etc were in town I went to watch these teams, whether at Celtic or Ibrox. I suppose all you bears with your closed minds would not appreciate Cruyff or Eusebio at their peak but we Celtic fans did, even if we were getting beat we APPLAUDED these players for their skill. That is what a Celtic fan does and why we are welcomed around the world we EMBRACE the other team's fans and enjoy the challenge. Hail hail Timalloy
Ps saw that bear on Liverpool site ha ha if Carlsberg did Irony! Glad to see LFC fans gave him pelters {Ed007's Note - Cheers Tim, like I said the first time I remember was the Hillsborough match, maybe just the occasion made it stick in my mind, I was only 14/15 at that time and time can cloud your memory (auld yin)}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Aye i foget the amount of times u guys appluaded gazza and laudrup lol !

Hello all not put my tuppence worth in for a while! Not trying to be pessimistic but this will probably sound like it. Not holding out too much hope for tonight. That said if we are to lose I would rather it be a going down fighting defeat (yes we may get something out the game fingers crossed). I don’t want us to do a rangers and park the bus and hope we can cling onto a 0-0 or Scottish sports favourite phrase sneak a 1-0 (although when Scottish teams try this they are on the receiving end of a gallant 1-0 defeat). We have to try and play a flowing game of football and hit them as much as we can, yes we could get royally humped playing open football, but what better way for our players to learn? play our normal game and they can learn where its gone wrong if it does go wrong, or where they have tried to bite off too much and been punished. In my opinion no need for fancy different tactics, stick to what we are trying to do domestically, don’t care about the result they are there to try and put on a show ! something which is sadly lost in modern football!

Evinguu {Ed007's Note - Great post mate, I'm with you.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Dear dear how Scottish football has fallen 10 years ago you would fancy Celtics chances against Real Madrid and now their fans are apprehensive about playing Athletico Madrid and i mean that sincerely

Agree0 Disagree0

So wat ur saying is you would rather look good and lose than look bad and win ... Woody Harrelson for ye there guys !

Germinator {Ed007's Note - I'd rather we just played our own game and see how it goes. Scottish teams are too scared to go for the jugular and see where the dice fall. Why change the team's natural game to accommodate the opposition, let them worry about our teams' strengths. When a lot of teams are experimenting with 4-3-3, we are still experimenting with 4-5-1. Any mistakes will be worthless as a learning curve because the team are not learning to enhance their week in week out style of play. We need to learn to keep possession better, if the opposition don't have the ball, they can't score.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Not apprehensive dude, just realistic, didnt say we will deffo lose just that we might, christ i could have said exactly the same thing if we were playing st johnstone tonight and i know how that result went! and given our record even in the good ol days we would still have struggled then for a result esp away from home. Im speaking more in a general sense here, im fed up with all scottish teams playing this game not to get beat!, sport is there to try and win well professional sport anyways! im just saying this is the philosophy we should go into tonights game with and it will be an easier pill to swallow should we be defeated! this is the philosophy for the game i would like all our teams adopt in the future!

Not apprehensive just wanna be entertained win lose or draw by this sport we all love so.

I wouldn't say either are terrible - just wildly unreliable. Lafferty less so than the greek pony. I think Lafferty is stepping up now and may well prove himself this year as the talent many people believe him to be. Samaras is a lost cause. Too old now to change.

I was wondering ed who was the first team to sing You'll Never Walk Alone?? I know liverpool say they started after Gerry and the pacemakers but I heard that Celtic sang a different version from a play call carousel are something like that.. Anybody have any information? Bigirishmac {Ed007's Note - The song comes from a Rogers and Hammerstein 1945 musical called Carousel. It has been sang by Elvis, Sinatra, Judy Garland, Bob Dylan and of course, Gerry and the Pacemakers, amongst others. LFC adopted the song in the 60's. It is hard to pinpoint when CFC started actually singing it but I always seem to tie it in with the Hillsborough Memorial match (older fans can correct me on that no problem). Feyenoord and FC Twente also sing it and I have seen/heard it sang at Borussia Dortmund and at St. Pauli matches. There are probably other teams that sing it as well, but nobody does it as well as the CFC fans!}

No doubt BB1, germinator and "cordial" daviet will defend him ha ha ha Germinator now that is DUMB! hail hail Neil T
PS BB1 yes I love football and before my illness I used to go to a lot of european games when I could, Ibrox, Tannadice as well as Paradise. Funny my football loving gers pals would never go to Celtic park with me. Difference is we Celtic fans LOVE football and watching good teams, gers fans too blinkered to enjoy the messi's, etc.. of this world as they dont play in blue. {Ed007's Note - I've just read the LFC page. Germinator (not tempting fate!) {Ed007's Note - If a player is garbage, I will say mate. I have went on about Majstorovic for months. Edu and McClugger are very poor players. Scoring in the derby won't change that, and Rangers fans will still moan about them.}

A bit worried about tonight as we have a bad record in Spain (and a few other places) plus the good balance we had on Saturday is lost obviously due to tactical reasons and injury, but also because we signed a 'cup-tied' left back...
It is a very hard place to open our group campaign and I hope the Bhoys fight for the jersey but stay calm in a hostile stadium and get a result.
But if they don't it's no disaster MON had a much more experienced and talented team a decade ago and they had a few hard nights away in Europe.

Whenever rangers fans go away in Europe and cause trouble there is always an excuse instead of weeding out the instigators

Manchester big telly did not work
Villarreal Celtic fan with rangers tops on
Osasuna police were heavy handed oh and Chelsea casuals
Can't remember what team but chair throwing because turnstiles did not open in time
Psv sectarian chanting hidden agenda of group who filed complaint catholic leader
Every time different excuse
Oh forgot to mention domestic abuse went through the roof last season after 2 old firm games that rangers lost

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I agree. 100%

This is one of the main reasons I despise Martin Bain!

Instead of hiding behind "the great name of Rangers" or "the great traditions of (our) club" he should have been scanning CCTV footage of certain hardcore elements of our support (you know who I mean). Get them out and keep them away! Why would I want to take my own daughters to Ibrox when there's offensive, sectarian bile raining down from the stands? Probably for the same reasons "the world" abhorred South Africa during the apartheid era....

This type of behaviour and the offensive terminology are no longer acceptable.

I still don't fully understand the reasons for my support singing "God save the queen" and "Rule Brittania". Can we stop it now?

But, to be honest, these types of posts are getting cumbersome now. I think we all agree that our clubs need removed as far as possible from religion as possible.

daviet

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree davie,while im a hoops fan my youngest son from a previous relationship supports rangers so took him to ibrox for a game and it brought home to me how deep rooted the bile is when seated among the support with the comments that are made individually and not sung by the whole support.

Billyboy1, Germinator, it is not a "minority", look at manchester and it is everywhere Rangers go there is trouble, it is time all you rangers fans realised this. Neil T (ps before my illness I used to run a supporters bus, any time a celtic fan stepped out of line, us Celtic fans stopped it, with rangers fans they video it and put it on youtube and revel in it that is the difference)

To the nameless poster of the above - there was around 200,00 Rangers fans in Manchester for the Final. Around 60 arrests were made so how can you say that is not a minority?

Billyboy1

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Billyboy, what a stupid comment to make, we all SAW the rioting and more than 60 were involved. Sadly only 60 of you idiots were caught and charged. You sullied the name of Scottish football that night, just as you do every time your "fans" go abroad. hail hail Neil T

Yes well my mate was in Seville and he saw a couple of fights break out amongst his own fans but stats say there very very few arrests .... so we go with the stats ... stats say that 60 people were guilty of rioting in Manchester ............................. hmmmm celtic fans are welcomed everywere tho eh Neil ....... the Athletico press seems to think other wise ...... im sure i would welcome a team that refers to us as "Scum".. However in saying that heres hoping you lot can get a result tonight .... cos jeez does scottish football need it ! {Ed007's Note - There is a bit of a difference between 'a couple of fights' over who's round it is and 60 people getting done for rioting. I've got a mate that was in Manchester and said Rangers fans behaviour at the big screen was a complete embarrassment to the club.}

Sorry never seen the name. If you look it up reports suggest there were 39 arrests on the night but there were more after it i'm taking a rough figure of around 60 overall. I never mentioned how many were involved I was in Manchester that night and the section I was at the atmosphere was great all day. I'm not condoning what happened but out of 200,00 fans that were there 200 maybe involved in the riots rough figure thats a minority. Neil T your a mug if you think all Celtic fans are well behaved. Take your head out of the sand. Both clubs have a small minority of idiot fans at least i'm big enough to come out and say it. Take the green specs off.

Can Celtic supporters just ease off on the bile please. Its like a broken record going over and over and over the same tired old song.
Why don't you brighten up a bit and enjoy your night in europe.
Good luck and enjoy the event.
Just leave "juan guy" at home and be an example to the world for Scotland.
The real fun resumes on Sunday when the team you love to hate beat you again!
Blue Knows
PS Visiting two good stadiums in 4 days will be a nice wee change for you as well.

Sorry ed forgot to put my name in .... i was talking about couple of fights in Seville .... im not even gonna try to compare the two my point was that u cant take opinion as one side in arguruement but dismiss stats and vice versa .... ie Neil T (although im sure he is tryin to wind up as i cant believe there are fans as genuinely dumb out there !) lol trust me i aint got any "beefs" with ya chief well maybe a couple but not on this debate lol !

Germinator {Ed007's Note - No worries mate. Too much time is spent watching what the 'other side' are doing rather than worrying how their own club is being portrayed, and the press LOVE it!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Billyboy1, "rough" figure 200 involved ha ha, it was on television, EVERYBODY saw it, riots ALL OVER MANCHESTER, Thousands involved, police attacked and nearly killed, innocent people caught up , because rangers fans cannot handle defeat. I too have seen Rangers fans close up, my gers pals used to get me tickets for euro games in copland stand, and I saw WHOLE STAND pour out sectarian bile, so BB1 I KNOW what I am talking about. Your fans are not called Scotland's Shame for no reason Neil T

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok Neil gimme the games that your talking about u went to at Ibrox in europe ............ im fed up doing the tit 4 tat stuff id like to think im above it, however we could both type stuff that fans of our clubs have done in the past that just would not get published on this site so give it a rest and ust focus on keeping those crayons within the lines....

Germinator

Sigh.

As I previously posted there are MILLIONS of RFC and CFC fans throughout the world. It therefore is logical to state that it is a minority of fans who cause trouble. I would also go so far to state that our minority's are far smaller than the "ultras" in some of the eastern- bloc countries.

RFC have a bigger "problem" than CFC with an element of their respecitve support. I don't know how much clearer I can be about this!

But Neil, for you to state that CFC do not have a problem is a little wide of the mark. Even your own Ed disagrees!

Theres no point in discussing it with him Germinator and a Celtic fan going to Rangers games? Bit weird. Neil T time you took your head out the sand mate Celtic fans are no angles neither are Rangers fans but at least be big enough to admit it. I could troll through the internet all day bringing up things Celtic fans have done but it bores me. I'd rather discuss the up and coming slaughter of Celtic at the home of the Champions.

RFC fined £149k by UEFA over the past 5 years. This includes the £80k fine last year our fans being banned for away travel.

CFC have been fined £147k by UEFA over the past 5 years for fan's behaviour.

daviet

ps. I make a point of NEVER saying "FACT".

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say most Celtic fans are angels but you're right some are not...wee devils. Unfortunatley the FACTS are, when Celtic played in the UEFA cup final in Seville we received an award for best fans from UEFA and well without spelling it out ..Manchester made front page news all over Europe (and it wasn't because a British club won).

Celtic might well get beat on Sunday without a crystal ball..I don't know. But, it will be Neil Lennon's 1st defeat there if thats the case..Mmm wonder if Ally will fair as well roll on 28th Dec ! (Don't even get me started on this old firm meeting being a Wed night between xmas & new year)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand the context of your post.

The posts above by RFC fans are admitting the problems your mentioned.

Then you go on to state "well, but, and another thing", while mentioning the same point.

Can you explain exactly where you want us to go with this?

daviet

ps still waiting for that post Neil...

Hi Tony , if we're mentioning the catholics
who played for Celtic in days of yore , I think
it is only fair to mention the players "forced"
out of Rangers for the heinous crime of marrying
a catholic , I don't know exactly how many there
has been , but from 1960's , 70's and 80's I can
name a few , most of who you will know , the list
includes , Sir Alex Ferguson (no less). , Gragham Fyfe ,
Derek Parlane , Bobby Russell and radio clyde's very
own Gordon Dalziel , ii'm sure you'll agree Parlane and
Russell were very good players for Rangers , I find that
sad , don't you mate ?
